When it comes to skincare, I have a bad habit of focusing all of my time and attention on my face—not my body. Even though I religiously run through my facial skincare routine every night, using cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer, I rarely treat my body with the same TLC. Sure, every so often I'll run a random lotion over my limbs when I feel like they're getting dry, but that's usually the full extent of it. I know this is, well, less than ideal. After all, skincare means caring for your skin everywhere. (Did you know 97% of your skin is below your chin?) So I'm consciously trying to change my lackluster bodycare routine, committing to devoting more time and attention to regularly exfoliating and moisturizing from the neck down. Not only that, but I want to treat the skin on my body to the same active ingredients that I treat the skin on my face to.

That's where a new $18 body lotion comes in. Not only does it moisturize my skin, but it can smooth and firm it, too. It's all thanks to ingredients like squalane, vitamin E, and retinol. Yes, retinol. Keep scrolling to see which body lotion it is and why I'm so excited about it.

The body lotion in question is this one by Versed, which is Who What Wear's sister brand and an in-office favorite for effective yet affordable skincare. (By the way, this isn't the first time I've waxed poetic about a Versed product. Check out the dermaplaning tool I use every couple of weeks like clockwork and the glow drops that I can't get enough of for a dewy complexion.)

Versed isn't new to the retinol game. The brand previously launched this gentle retinol serum for the face. It's a best seller thanks to a mix of encapsulated retinol, bakuchiol, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients, which makes it safe for sensitive skin.

Think of the new body lotion as an extension of the serum. It's just formulated to treat your skin from the neck down. Let's take a look at each of its individual star ingredients, shall we?

First up, there's retinol. Just like in the aforementioned serum, this retinol is encapsulated, which means it's able to bypass the skin's surface and go into the skin's lower layers to work effectively with less irritation. For the sake of background, retinol, which is a vitamin A ingredient, increases collagen production and cell turnover, which subsequently offers all kinds of skin benefits including but not limited to the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, breakouts, and uneven skin tone. It's truly a multipurpose skincare ingredient, and up until now, it's been almost entirely relegated to face products.

Next up, we have squalane. This is a grade-A occlusive, meaning it helps the skin retain moisture. Since our skin's hydration levels naturally decrease with age, using a product that contains squalane can keep our skin happy, healthy, and hydrated (and isn't that exactly what we want from a body lotion?).

After squalane, we need to talk about vitamin E. This is a powerful antioxidant, which means it keeps damaging free radicals at bay. It's also a skin-smoothing ingredient—it makes skin feel soft to the touch.

The fourth and final star ingredient is cocoa butter, which is a rich emollient that moisturizes and nourishes super-dry skin. (Seriously, it can totally transform even the driest, most chapped skin.) It's full of fatty acids and antioxidants.

One more thing—because it contains retinol, I was slightly concerned about it irritating the sensitive razor burn–prone skin on my legs. However, even when I applied it to freshly shaved skin, there was no stinging, burning, or redness, just soft and moisturized skin.

If you're like me, you're picky when it comes to body lotion. While I love thick and greasy body oils, thick and greasy body lotions, not so much. There's just something about a thick, chalky cream that I can't stand. This lotion is not that. It's easy to massage over the skin, and it absorbs within minutes. Even when I apply it on damp skin, it doesn't leave a residue or feel like a film on my skin.

It’s snowing, and it’s time for spring cleaning. Yes, I know it’s still winter, but my New York shoebox apartment is bursting at the seams with clothing, and I need to condense.

See, I am what some would call a hoarder. I love all my clothing and have such a hard time getting rid of pieces. This may be one of the reasons I have a beanstalk of a shoe rack stacked on top of my closet filled with pairs of shoes I have not touched in five seasons. It took going home for Thanksgiving and coming back to really look at my room with clear eyes and come to see that this is no way to live. And thus, spring cleaning commenced before the holidays.

Throughout my cleaning process, I realized that the most important things are the basics. While I have glittery sneakers and funky, furry coats, I really only wear my closet staples: my favorite jeans, classic black leggings, a white tank top, and other solid pieces that make up my day-to-day wardrobe. And as much as I love an occasional pop of color or texture, it’s time to make room for my closet’s basics because those are the clothes that I actually live in.

The best part about these closet basics is that they can go with literally anything and be worn any which way. A simple leather jacket can drape over something as casual as a denim dress or be thrown over something as classy as a black LBD. And so I moved all of these staples to the front of my closet and moved my, say, less conventional pieces under my bed.

Now when I go to my closet to pull an outfit together, I see all of the basics I know I actually wear, and I can think of at least 15 ways to wear these useful closet basics. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite staples below.

“The newest trend in underwear is definitely the high-cut French brief.” Boom. You heard it here first, courtesy of Journelle Head of Product Development Sandra Rose, aka the woman in charge of knowing what’s new and next in the underwear space for one of the U.S.’s most-loved lingerie retailers. There are a couple of reasons to get on board with the trend, but my primary motive? The underwear style makes your legs look way longer.

“With the band sitting at your natural waist, it gives you legs for days!” says Rose. Fleur du Mal founder Jennifer Zuccarini agrees: “High-cut styles elongate the line of your leg and emphasize your waistline because they sit higher, on a smaller part of your waist than, say, a hip-hugger style.” Another, more practical plus of the high-cut underwear trend? “With a higher rise, they are less likely to bunch when you’re wearing high-waisted pants and skirts,” says Rose.

As for where the re-emergence of the high-cut French brief trend came from, Zuccarini attributes it to Instagram It models like Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski as well as ’90s supermodels like Naomi Campbell. Just like with any trend, “it takes time and the right people wearing it again and again, for people to adopt a new look like this,” says Zuccarini.

I don't know about you, but I tend to look at people's shoes a lot, especially when I travel. And over the course of the past year, there was a particular shoe style I kept seeing on people's feet. If you're thinking flip-flops, we're on the same page. What kills me is that there are so many shoe styles out there that are just as easy and comfortable as flip-flops but are significantly more protective of your feet.

I wanted to know how flip-flops rank on the airport practicality spectrum from the experts themselves, so I reached out to TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein and a flight attendant for a major airline. Farbstein pointed out that while you can certainly wear flip-flops to an airport, "They are thin-soled, [and] they still will need to be removed at the TSA checkpoint, which typically means bare feet on the floor." So making the security process easier certainly isn't a valid reason to wear them.

The flight attendant told me, "As flip-flops are great to slide on to head down to the pool, as a flight attendant, they are not my footwear of choice when exploring a new city. They offer no support, which is basically my worry." I asked what she thought of wearing them to the airport and flying in them, to which she responded, "I mean it's sort of gross. There are so much bacteria. Wearing flip-flops, you can get blisters and then bacteria can get into your feet." Yikes, right?

I recently went on a trip to Paris. While I was there, I spent my days wandering the city, eating my weight in foods that were likely composed of 80 percent butter, and browsing French pharmacies to stock up on Biafine.

I don't know about you, but I'm finding myself wearing a sweater pretty much every day as of late, and I'm not mad about it. I love a sweater outfit. Since there are approximately 10,000 things on the internet that have caught my eye already this month, I actually think it shows great restraint that I've narrowed this story down to include just 20 of them. Okay, 30. Fine, 40! But I promise they're all really good.

You may already know exactly how you want to dress on New Year’s Eve. Perhaps that’s your go-to dress-and-heels combo, or maybe it’s a more toned-down look consisting of jeans and your favorite blouse. While anything you wear will undoubtedly work, if you really want to make it foolproof, you should stick to a few specific style rules to help you master your look. Because come on—who doesn't want a killer outfit?

To give you the rundown on the tricks to know, we hit up stylist Alex Sweterlitsch, founder of @fashioninstant, and had her spill on the six rules of dressing cool for New Year’s Eve. “I like to follow a fabric-to-fit formula—simple fabrics should be on a tailored silhouette, while loud fabrics should fall away from the body. Rich velvet = fitted. Gold metallic lamé = loose,” Sweterlitsch says.

“On holidays like this when everyone tends to follow the same style formula, it’s important to try to be unique,” Sweterlitsch tells us. “I love the idea of women wearing a silk pantsuit in a rich color or a jumpsuit; it’s not only a nice change from all the body-con sequinned dresses but also more comfortable.”

“While there’s a secret to wearing high heels without any pain, choosing shoes with a platform or block heel gives a nod to retro style and keeps comfort in mind. Whatever you do, please don’t ever remove your shoes,” Sweterlitsch advises.

“I see a lot of women wear everything at once—sparkly dress, lots of jewelry, shiny makeup—and it feels too overdone,” says Sweterlitsch. “A nice style juxtaposition is picking one standout part of your outfit (like a great pair of earrings) and wearing it with a tuxedo blazer and skinny jeans.”

“I’ve styled many party looks, and one of my favorite things to incorporate is something with movement,” says Sweterlitsch. “Fringe or feathers look amazing on a dance floor.”

“If you want to wear sequins, and by all means, you should, do so unexpectedly,” Sweterlitsch tells us. “A cool pair of trousers is a nice alternative to anything tight and mini.”

I Am Not Okay With This star Sofia Bryant takes style inspiration from Guy Fieri.

Flavortown's number one fan wanted to be a chef when she was younger and watched a lot of Food Network, where she fell in love with Fieri's iconic (and flaming) oversize button-downs. "I think they're so easy to dress up, but also dress down," she says.

Bryant loves the oversize button-downs so much that she even wore one to the I Am Not Okay With This wrap party.

Beyond her Fieri-inspired button-downs, Bryant isn't afraid of adding a pop of color to her wardrobe.

"I'm not afraid of color. I think that color is awesome," she says. "I went through this phase where I was so minimal that I only wore white and black, and it kind of allowed me to start all over."

One of Bryant's favorite items in her wardrobe is something that she saves for a rainy day: a purple raincoat from Dolls Kill that really does make a statement.

"Protected, but also I'm still serving," she adds.

Beyond serving looks when it's raining, Bryant has eclectic shoe and accessory collections, including more than one pair of platforms. She says, "I only wear platform shoes. I love to be the tallest in the room. I think height is so powerful."

Bryant is the queen of sunglasses. While she owns more than she can count, she wears a pair of green sunglasses that she got on St. Marks Place in New York City the most. "They somehow go with everything, and they just make me feel like a '90s cool girl," she says.

For Bryant, sunglasses are a great way to make her outfits pop: "I think they're the easiest way to spice up an outfit in whatever way you need to. You can make an outfit super sleek. You can make an outfit a little bit more fun."

One of Bryant's favorite accessories that she owns is a Kara wallet on a chain inspired by bikers in New York City. "If you know me, you know I'm a hard-core New Yorker, and I love to let everyone know," she says. "This is inspired by bike chains worn by bikers in New York City, so I thought that was super, super cool and creative."

I am sick of being uncomfortable. My day-to-day outfits are always so structured. Whether it be skin-tight leather pants to work, a bodycon dress on a night out, or even just mid-rise jeans to go run errands, my body is being constantly squeezed by fabric and sometimes I just want to let everything loose.

I had just gotten home from a day at the office, when my roommate burst in through the front door. She said a quick hello to me and our dog and then made a beeline for her room. She emerged after no more than twenty seconds, no longer in what I call her “paralegal power pantsuit” and instead in a cozy purple sweatsuit.

“Where in the world did you get that?” I said, immediately envious of her cozy attire.

“Amazon,” She said, and immediately I grabbed my computer.

There was the solution. Comfy clothing, cute enough to wear outside or inside, that won’t break the bank. I scrolled through endless options of cute, cozy clothes that I couldn’t wait to change into the second I came home from work, a wild bar night, or a day out and about.

Fast forward 24 hours to my roommate and I lounging on our couch in matching sweatsuits, with our dog longingly gazing at our outfits (or our fried rice, not sure which).
