Kakolat Waterfalls are located 33 km from Nawada in Bihar. The water cascades down from a height of 150 to 160 ft. Near the falls, there is a natural reservoir. The waterfall is surrounded by green forests. The place was visited by the Pandavas during their exile. A big fair is held during Bishua or Chait Sankranti. It is believed that in Treta Yuga, a king was cursed by a rishi, and had to take the shape of a python and lived here.

Register with Feed Burner

Rumi Gate - Lucknow, India

Situated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the Rumi Gate is said to represent the heart and soul of the Awadh architecture when it was at its pinnacle. Rumi Gate was constructed as a famine relief measure in 1784. During the Nawabi era, a huge lantern placed atop the Rumi Darwaza would light up the pathway, while jets of water gushed from the numerous fountains created on the rim of the gateway. This impressive gateway is also sometimes referred as Turkish Gateway in the British historical sources.

Register with Feed Burner

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary - Rajasthan

Mehrangarh Fort, located in Jodhpur city, is one of the largest forts in India. The fort is situated on a lofty height, 400 feet (122 metres) above the city, and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. Inside its ways, there are several palaces, which are known for their intricate carvings and sprawling courtyards. The foundation of the fort was laid on May 12, 1459 by Rao Jodha on a rocky hill nine kilometres to the south of Mandore. The invincible fortifications are six meters thick. Some of the walls still bear cannon marks they had once withstood. The Chamunda Mataji was Rao Jodha's favourite goddess, he

brought her idol from the old capital of Mandore in 1460 and installed her in Mehrangarh. She remains the Maharaja's and the royal family's Isht Devi or adopted goddess and is worshipped by most of Jodhpur's citizens as well. Crowds throng Mehrangarh during the Dussehra celebrations. It contains period rooms like Moti Mahal - The Pearl Palace, Sheesha Mahal - The Hall of Mirrors, Phool Mahal - The Palace of Flowers, Takhat Vilas -Maharaja Takhat Singh's Chamber.

Register with Feed Burner

Qila Mubarak - Bhathinda

Qila Mubarak, a historical national monument of India, forms the heart of the city of Bhatinda. In terms of architecture, the Qila can be classified under the multiple courtyard type. Each courtyard is denoted as a palace. It has been in existence for approximately 1900 years in its current form. It was here that Razia Sultan, the first woman to take charge of the Delhi throne, was incarcerated on her defeat and dethroned. by-7wondersofindia

Register with Feed Burner

Golconta Fort - Hyderabad, India

Golconda, meaning shepherd hill, is a blend of majesty and grandeur of the 800-year-old ruins and the architectural glory. The fort area on the hill is fenced off by a series of high and broad granite walls built in concentric circles. Golconda was the centre of a flourishing trade in diamonds and the world-famous Kohinoor diamond came from this market. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a masonry dam built across Krishna River in Nagarjuna Sagar, Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the earliest irrigation and hydro-electric projects in India. The hydroelectric plant has a power generation capacity of 815.6 MW with 8 units. One of the tallest masonry dams of the world, the Nagarjuna Dam irrigates over 10 lakh acres of land. It was during the building of this dam, that the ruins of an ancient Buddhist civilisation were excavated. The project transformed the economy of above districts. Fifty-two villages were submersed in water and 24,000 people were affected. The relocation of the people was completed by 1967.(7wondersofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Warangal Fort - Andhra Pradesh

Warangal Fort is situated in the Warangal city of Andhra Pradesh. In the mid-13th century, the construction of this colossal structure was initiated by the Kakatiyan king, Ganapatideva. Rani Rudramaa, who was the daughter of the king, further made the efforts to complete the construction work. The ends include commanding gateways and graceful towers that elevate to no less than 50 feet. The main gateway comprises of the four gigantic pillars, which have been crafted out of a single rock. Warangal Fort is one of the architectural wonders of the bygone era. The structure was built in the 13th century by rulers of the Kakatiya dynasty.(by-7wonderofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Jaisalmar Fort - Rajastan Travel Place

It is situated in Jaisalmer city in Rajasthan. The fort stands admist the golden stretches of the great Thar Desert, on Trikuta Hill and had been the scene of many battles. It is also known as the "Golden Fort". It is built of sandstone and is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan. It was built in 1156 AD by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, from where it derives its name. At one point of time, the entire population of Jaisalmer used to live within the fort; but with the increase in the population, people were forced to move out and find shelter under the foot of the Trikuta Hill. The main attractions inside the fort are: Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain temples, Laxminath temple, four massive gateways, and Merchant Havelis.(7wondersofindia )
Register with Feed Burner

Gwalior Fort - Mathya Pradesh

Located in Hyderabad, the Lumbini Park is a landscaped park on the banks of the Hussain Sagar Lake. Part of the Buddha Poornima project, it is located a few yards from the monolithic Buddha statue on the Rock of Gibraltar in the Hussain Sagar. The main entrance of the park has a large floral clock with brightly colored flowers of different shades. The Buddha Statue is strewn from a single piece of stone and is famed to be the largest monolithic Budha statue in India. The statue measures 18 metres in height and weighs 350 tonnes. It is named after the garden that was the birth place of Siddharth, the later day Buddha. It is a popular place where families, young couples and children spend time. Well known for its spectacular musical dancing fountain and water cascading provided with colourful lights.(by-7wonderofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Borra Caves

Located 16 kms from Aurangabad and with a height of over 600 ft, Daulatabad Fort rises abruptly from the Deccan plains. Stands bounded within thick walls, which are almost five km long, and is entered through spiked gates. Its steep side ways and deep trench made it almost impenetrable.(by-7wonderofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Old Indian Kerala Circus Team Picture Gallery

Situated in the Mandya district in the state of Karnataka, South India, Srirangapatnam was once the capital of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, the 'Tiger of Mysore'. Situated on the river, this small island houses the imposing Srirangapatnam Fort built in 1454. Tipu Sultan fought his last battle against the British from here and an obelisk marks the spot where he was killed. Standing outside the eastern wall of the fortress is Daria Daulat bagh, a beautiful garden surrounding Tipu's summer palace. The personal belongings and souvenirs connected with the two rulers are at display here in a small museum.(by-7wondersofindia)

Register with Feed Burner

Rameshwaram (City of Tamil Nadu)

Situated on an island off the Sethu coast of Rameswaram in Ramanathpuram district, Tamil Nadu, is an important pilgrimage site for the followers of Hinduism. It is believed that a visit to this temple washes away one's sins and brings salvation (moksha). Being situated in Rameshwaram, the Ramanathaswamy Mandir is popularly known as the Rameshwaram Temple. The construction of this temple began in the 12th century; nonetheless it was completed much later, during the reign of various rulers. Rameshwaram Temple is famous for embracing one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (lingam of light) of Lord Shiva. The temple is also accredited for being the southern most 'Jyotirlinga' of India.(by -7wonderofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Ajanta Ellora Caves (Video) : Maharashtira

Rani Mahal consists of arched chambers around an open courtyard that looks magnificent and is a welcome break from the typical architectures of Bundelkhand. Rani Mahal of Jhansi was actually the palace of Lakshmi Bai, Rani of Jhansi. Rani Mahal was built in the late 18th century. Located in the very heart of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, the palace has been the epicenter of the Great Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 in Bundelkhand region. Various plans for mutiny were hatched in this palace when the British Resident turned down the repeated efforts for reconciliation from Rani's side.(by-7wondersofindia)

Register with Feed Burner

Vellore Fort (Tamil Nadu District) : Top of India

Located 125 km west of Madras in Tamil Nadu, the outer length of the Vellore Fort is about 758 m high and 455 m wide. The height of the outer wall is about 9 feet and the breadth is about 8 m. The Sultan of Bijapur seized Vellore by the middle of the 17th century. In 1676, the fort was captured by the Marathas who were in turn ousted by Daud Khan of Delhi in 1708. The temple and the fort were brought under the control of ASI in 1921. The fort is considered to one of the most perfect specimens of military architecture.(by-7wonderofindia)
Register with Feed Burner

Chettinad Palace - Karaikkudi,Tamil Nadu : Top of India

Located 10 km from Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, the Chettinad Palace was designed and constructed by Dr Annamali Chettiyar, founder of the Indian Bank and the Annamalai University in Chidambaram. Moat of the construction materials, decorative items and furnishings used to construct Chettinad Palace were imported
from East Asian countries and Europe. All the mansions have lovely teak, marble or granite pillars supporting a spacious verandah. The hall leads to the central courtyard, used for weddings and religious ceremonies erstwhile. At the corner of the courtyard is a room for worship where Rani Seethai Achi, wife of Dr Annamalai Chettiyar, spent most of her time.(by-7wondersofindia)

Register with Feed Burner

Kalka Shimla Toy Train :Top of India
