We pair program to write all of our software. We work on Mac Pros with two keyboards and dual 27" cinema displays. We work in an open team room; no cubicles or private offices. Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls.

We test...

Testing is at the forefront of our development philosophy. We never need to check our code coverage to know that it's at 100%: with disciplined TDD, no line of code will be written without a test. We don't have a QA team. That might be terrifying when you consider the type of software that we're building, but we're confident that our automated testing is thorough and will catch any regression bugs. We use continuous integration to test every version of every client library against our gateway.

We are agile...

Agile development methodologies mean different things to different people. For us, the most important part of Agile is doing what works best for the team. We have a story card wall and release a few times a week. We keep the team in sync with daily standups and have a retrospective once a month to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements. We’re pragmatic, not dogmatic. Although we have strong opinions, we're never afraid to try to new things to see if they work and reconsider our positions if the situation warrants it.

We spend half a day every week working on whatever we’re interested in, regardless of whether it's relevant to the business. Test-driven web development (primarily in Rails 2.3.3 and 3.X)
Legacy code refactoring
Participate in an agile development methodology

About you:
Are goal oriented and a self-starter who requires minimal supervision
Possess a strong software design mentality with emphasis on OO and MVC
Are able to communicate not only with the technical team but also with business stakeholders
Are not afraid to experiment with new technologies
Have experience creating and consuming web services and APIs (REST, SOAP)
Are comfortable working with Ruby/Rails regardless of the version level
Proficient in relational databases including MySQL
Familiar with test frameworks including RSpec and Cucumber
Could not live without use of your git repository
Can hold your own on the front-end (jQuery, Javascript, CSS, SASS, HAML)
Know what to do when optimization and tuning are needed
Have some experience with Linux systems administration (CentOS, Ubuntu)

Discovr.ly is a startup closing its angel round with investors and advisers from top enterprise SaaS companies, led by a former enterprise software product manager with 5 years of experience and an engineering background. We have a backlog of customers and need to hire to build to meet their needs.

What We Are Solving
In business we often have to reach out to people we don’t know. When possible, we would love to avoid a cold call and get a warm introduction but have no way to discover and leverage the contacts of fellow employees. Historically these relationships were only discovered serendipitously, but, as relationships are documented online through Facebook and other social networks, businesses no longer have to depend on serendipity to find success. Discovr.ly is a web application that helps people search their company's aggregate social graph to get warm introductions to people. Our product lies at the intersection of search and social, providing engaging challenges for ambitious candidates.
