Different Direction

I am taking the blog into a new direction as of.......now. It will no longer be limited to just hip-hop. In fact it will probably be a lot of techno-ey electronica tunes. I know this is pretty unexpected for all my fan (thanks for reading mom) out there, but it is necessary. The Formula

9th Wonder and Buckshot have brought it hard again. Their newest release The Formula is burning up. It's "100 percent hip-hop with no filler." The album clocks in at a little over 45 minutes. There is absolutely no fluff. It's hip-hop in its purest form. 9th's beats sample soulful grooves with Buckshot spitting about everyday life.

It is tough to pick out standouts from the album. Most of the tracks follow the same formula. It's a sick flow on a soul beat. Buckshot is just telling you how it is. No Future is my favorite song off the album. Buckshot rips on sucka MC's who release LPs that are long punishment. He also explains his minimalist form of hip-hop (two turntables and a microphone). Other quality tracks include Hold It Down which features an appearance of Kweli and Be Cool which narrates the chase for the lady.

I am a hugely in favor of the one mc one producer album. It keeps the album cohesive, and works very well for 9th and Buck.

Jurassic-5 was the crew introduced me "underground" hip-hop. So despite the fact that they are kind of mediocre, I still will bump them from time to time. This track here takes me back. Perfect for sitting on the on the deck and sipping brews. Plus family friendly lyrics!

I've been bumpin' La Coka Nostra for about a year now. They're legit. They kind of have that Jedi Mind Tricks sound. You know, really angry. This is the latest single that will be on their DVD which is supposed to be out fairly soon. Enjoy the video for, That's Coke. Oh, one more thing. According to Slaine (one of the members) Coke is referring to cool, not cocaine. Pffft, yeah right.

You will probably recognize this track from the latest Nike commercial. For last couple weeks it's been my pump up jam. The song is called List of Demands from the artist Saul Williams. He has an interesting take on hip hop. Most of his music is socially conscious. His most recent album, Niggy Tardust, was available for free download for about a month. Williams allowed people to give his music a "test drive" and then feel free to buy the CD. Sweet idea. Hopefully it worked out for him.

Tha Carter III pushed back again

The Carter III has been pushed back again. Big surprise. Weezy needs to get his shit together. This is ridiculous. Here's the album art that was leaked. Weak sauce. I'm disappointed in Wayne right now. The album is slated to come out sometime in June.

Young Buck is Donzo

Young Buck is officially out of G-Unit. In an interview on Hot 97, 50 Cent said that Buck will no longer be a member of G-Unit. He will still remain signed to G-Unit records as a solo artist. This will eventually make for some interesting conflict. I'll keep you updated.

Ying Yang Twins Preview

The Ying Yang Twins are set to release a new album July 1. I'm excited for it. Psych. It's not because of their terrible lyrics. You can have bad lyrics, but sick songs (Ricky Ross). I was listening to some of their old "hits," and they all suck. Except Wait. That song is ballin. Their first single, Drop, is decent. Naa I'm lying, it's terrible. Bonus points for naming that sample.

Ludacris has a new album in the works. The album is called Theatre of the Mind. There is not much info about it at this point. What we do know is that Luda has collaborated with Good Charlotte (what?), plans on working with Eminem, and has hired DJ Khaled as A&R. The album does not have an official release date, but is slated to be released sometime this August. I'll keep you updated as more details come out.

Today's track of the day is the first single off of G-Unit's upcoming album, Lock and Load. The track is called I Like the Way She Do It. It's done in typical G-Unit fashion. The beat is tight and the lyrics are generic. Here's proof of 50's lyrical genius:

Cliff Harris is Sentenced

Cliff Harris aka T.I. was sentenced yesterday. He has to complete 1000 hours of community service and then do about a years worth of time. T.I. has been working on a new album Paper Trail while he has been on house arrest. There is no release date set for it.

I love this track. It's my summer jam.
