The new season of Teen Mom 2, which premiered on Tuesday on MTV, will center of attention on Aliannah's diagnosis.

Aliannah and her twin sister Aleeah are Messer's children from her marriage to Corey Simms, whom she divorced in 2011.

She and husband Jeremy Calvert welcomed daughter Addalynn last February.

An Invigorating Family Past Time: Sports Activities

If you are feeling bored, listless, and out of shape, you need a new past time. Sports activities will get your blood pumping and help you get back into shape. Not only will you be getting good exercise but you will be starting a valuable family past time. Sports activities are a great way to spend time with your kids. So get up off the couch, put down that soda, and get out in the yard for a little touch football.

If touch football is not for you, why not play a little kickball with your kids. Set up a diamond similar to a baseball diamond. Now the pitcher rolls a large soft ball, like a playground ball, on the ground to the "batter." Only in kickball, the batter kicks the ball and runs to first base. Since the ball is soft, the fielding team can throw the ball at the runner to get him out. Since the kicker will almost always manage to kick the ball and foul balls are rare, this is a classic game to play with young kids and others who are not very athletic.

A fun family game that makes a good past time sports activity is tetherball. This rousing game can be played with one or two people. Tetherball is called that because the ball is on a tether - it is on a rope tied at the top of a pole. The ball hangs about hand level. The object is to hit the ball and make the rope wrap around the pole. The two players attempt to make the ball go different directions. If you have never played tetherball, you should give it a try. It is really fun! And it really gets you moving (and laughing!)

Sand volleyball may have started on the beaches, but many towns are now installing sand volleyball courts in their public parks. The littler kids can sit in a safe place and play with their sand toys while Mom, Dad, and the older kids hit a beach ball or volleyball back and forth over a net. The sand feels good on bare feet (but not so good inside your shoes!) The kids will enjoy this past time sports.

A cross between volleyball and tennis that many families enjoy is badminton. In this game, the object is to use lightweight rackets to volley a "birdie" back and forth over a net. The birdie looks like a little plastic funnel attached to a firm rubber ball. You hold the birdie by the plastic and drop it onto your racket to serve to the other team. Badminton moves more slowly than tennis and is a leisurely way to get moving with the kids. You'll get some exercise, though!

Kids are naturally energetic and active, making past time sports activities extremely attractive to them. Since parents need to be spending more quality time with their kids as well as needing to get more exercise, too, these vigorous games are a good idea for everyone. Some say that the family that plays together stays together. This could be so, since exercise gets positive hormones flowing in your mind, putting you and everyone else in a better mood. The world is full of interesting things to learn and do. Don't merely sit back and watch TV. Get interested in a past time hobby. It's good for your mind. Missing Philadelphia girl found just outside city

Police say a 5-year-old girl who was taken from a Philadelphia school has been found safe just outside the city.

Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says a man walking down the street early Tuesday heard cries for help and found Nailla Robinson hiding under a jungle gym in a nearby park. He says she's been taken to the hospital to be checked out, but that she's OK.

The investigation is continuing.

Police say Robinson was taken Monday morning from the Bryant School in west Philadelphia. Police say the woman introduced herself as "Tiffany," but her signature in the school visitor log was illegible.

Police discovered that the girl was missing at about 3 p.m. Monday when a caretaker from the child's after-school program came to pick her

HSBC Cut 30,000 Jobs in Last Two Years

HSBC has reduced its number of staff by almost 30,000 in the last two years and said more job cuts are likely across the bank to achieve its cost efficiency targets.

The bank had 266,700 staff at the end of September, down from 296,000 at the end of 2010 and down about 21,000 this year.

HSBC Chief Executive Stuart Gulliver said about 15,000 of the reduction was due to disposals by the bank and he expected more cuts before the end of 2013 to improve cost efficiency. "We are probably likely to see the headcount reduce further...in terms of the organic reduction, there's still some way to go," he told reporters on a conference call.

Gulliver said in May 2011 he would cut about 30,000 jobs as part of a restructuring plan.

Bahrain: 2 killed in bomb blasts in capital; government blames 'terrorism'

MANAMA, Bahrain – A series of bomb blasts in Bahrain's capital killed two people Monday, authorities said, a sign that some factions within the opposition may be increasingly turning to violence in the nearly 21-month uprising against the Gulf nation's Western-backed rulers.
The apparently coordinated string of five explosions in Manama — described by officials as "terrorism" — comes less than a week after Bahrain banned all protest gatherings in attempts to quell the deepening unrest in the strategic kingdom, which is home the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.
Clashes have not eased, including crowds pelting three police stations with firebombs early Sunday. More than 55 people have been killed Bahrain's unrest since February 2011 as the nation's majority Shiites press for a greater political voice in the Sunni-ruled island nation.
Officials also suggested three could be crackdowns against Shiite religious leaders, and that could sharply intensify the clashes. Government spokeswoman Sameera Rajab blamed the attacks on statements by some Shiite "religious figures who haven't ceased inciting violence against civilians and police."
She said authorities would show "zero tolerance" in its efforts to stamp out unrest.
In Monday's violence, two Asian men were killed and a third person was injured as at least five homemade explosive devices were detonated, the Interior Ministry said. One man died after kicking a bomb and triggered an explosion, and the other died from injuries in a separate blast, officials said, but they did not immediately give names or nationalities.
Like all Gulf Arab countries, Bahrain has a large South Asian community of expatriate workers.
The official Bahrain News Agency described the blasts, over a nearly five-hour span, as an "act of terrorism."
Anti-government factions in Bahrain have used homemade bombs in the past, including a blast that killed a policeman last month in a mostly Shiite village. The latest attack suggests an expanding campaign of violence because of the scope of the bombings and their placement scattered throughout the heart of the capital, including near one area of restaurants and nightlife popular with Westerners.
On Wednesday, foreign ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council plan to meet in Bahrain to discuss regional issues, including Bahrain's tensions and growing clashes in Kuwait between security forces and an opposition led by Islamists.
Bahrain's Western allies have urged renewed efforts at dialogue to ease the crisis, but opposition groups insist that talks cannot move forward unless the monarchy is willing to make greater concessions to loosen its hold on the country's affairs. Bahrain's leaders have so far made reforms that include transferring more oversight powers to the elected parliament.
Shiites make up about 70 percent of Bahrain's 525,000 citizens. They claim they face systematic discrimination, such as being blocked from top political and security posts.
Last week, the U.S. State Department issued unusually harsh criticism against ally Bahrain after its decision to outlaw public demonstrations. Previously, officials in Bahrain had permitted some protest marches, but most clashes have occurred outside the authorized rallies.
"The decision to curb these rights is contrary to Bahrain's professed commitment to reform and will not help advance national reconciliation nor build trust among all parties," said State Department spokesman Mark Toner.

China tries to wear down Japan in island dispute

BEIJING – Chinese patrol boats have harried the Japanese Coast Guard many times a week for more than a month in an unusually relentless response to their latest maritime spat.
Four Chinese craft typically push to within hailing distance of Japan's ships. They flash illuminated signs in Japanese to press Beijing's argument that it has ancient claims to a set of tiny East China Sea islands now controlled by Tokyo. China says its craft have tried to chase the Japanese away at least once, although Japan denies any of its ships fled.
The huge uptick in incidents has brought the sides into dangerously close proximity, reflecting a campaign by Beijing to wear down Japanese resolve with low-level, non-military maneuvers but also boosting the risk of a clash.
Although China wields a formidable arsenal, it has yet to deploy military assets in such encounters. Instead, Beijing has dispatched ships from government maritime agencies — only one of which is armed — to keep a lid on gunfire. Those agencies are now receiving added attention, with new ships on order and a national call going out for recruits.
China says ships from its Marine Surveillance service are merely defending Chinese sovereignty and protesting illegal Japanese control over the uninhabited islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. The missions began after Japan's government purchased three of the five islands from their private Japanese owner in September, enraging a Chinese government that saw it as an attempt to boost Japan's sovereignty claim. It also sparked violent anti-Japanese protests in dozens of Chinese cities.
China's short-term goal has been primarily to force Japan to at least acknowledge that the islands are in dispute — something it has refused to do — but the boost in patrols raises the likelihood of a bigger confrontation, said Wang Dong, director of the Center for Northeast Asian Strategic Studies at Peking University.
"I'm very concerned about the current situation. The possibility of escalation cannot be ruled out," Wang said.
With emotions running high, any accident or miscalculation in these maritime missions could yield unexpected outcomes.
"One side might deploy a naval vessel in a support fashion, a move that the other would match," said M. Taylor Fravel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who is closely following the dispute.
Japan has made it clear that it intends to meet the Chinese challenge in kind.
Japanese Coast Guard spokesman Yasuhiko Oku said the dispute was a factor behind the government's allocation last week of 17 billion yen ($212 million) to beef up the Coast Guard fleet with seven new patrol ships and three helicopters, though he said the new assets are not only for use around the islands.
Oku declined, for national security reasons, to say how many ships patrol the islands. But he said the dispute has been a "significant draw" on resources.
Tensions in the region were highlighted by U.S.-Japan naval exercises that began Monday at various locations, involving some 37,400 Japanese and 10,000 U.S. troops. At the same time, Japanese and Chinese diplomats were in consultation in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
China's Foreign Ministry said the exercises were "not conducive to mutual trust in regional security," and urged the parties to "do more that helps regional peace and stability."
Already, the near-constant presence of Chinese ships around the disputed islands has stretched the Japanese Coast Guard, which pulled out of a recent fleet review to free up ships for patrols. That's a victory of sorts for Beijing's vow to claim what it calls sacred territory, between Taiwan and Japan's Okinawa. Taiwan also claims the islands, which were under U.S. administration after World War II before reverting to Japanese control in 1972.
Chinese outrage stems partly from lingering resentment over Japan's brutal World War II occupation of much of China, feelings that are constantly stoked by China's education system and state-controlled media. But control of sea lanes and potentially rich undersea minerals are also at play, along with China's burning desire for respect as a world power.
China and Japan have no formal agreement on preventing unintended incidents at sea, making it easier for events to spin out of control as they did when a Chinese fishing boat rammed a Japanese cutter in 2010, leading to a diplomatic standoff and anti-Japanese protests in China.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said last week that the sides need to calm down. "It's incredibly important that both countries appreciate what they have built and step back from the brink," Campbell said in Washington.
Chinese craft entered waters near the islands for the third consecutive day on Sunday, marking at least the 11th incursion in recent weeks. The Japanese Coast Guard has described all the incidents as routine without a risk of clashes, and said none of its ships have backed down.
However, the Chinese government said last week that its boats had performed "expulsion measures" against Japanese ships.
"Chinese law enforcement vessels have a foothold in the waters around Diaoyu and are expanding their activities to safeguard Chinese sovereignty," China's stridently nationalistic Communist Party tabloid Global Times said last Wednesday. It called that a warning to the Philippines, Vietnam and other neighbors to "think twice before they provoke China."
Some scholars say China's apparent strategy to gradually erode Japanese control through low-key actions has been abetted by a non-committal response from Washington, who has said it takes no stance on the islands' sovereignty despite recognizing its treaty obligations to back Tokyo in a conflict.
China uses a similar approach in the South China Sea where it has maritime disputes with several other nations.
Earlier this year, Beijing managed to nudge the Philippines out of a disputed shoal by entering a lengthy but nonviolent maritime standoff. After both sides stood down, China set up barriers with ropes and buoys to block further access. Chinese ships have also sought to cut sonar cables and otherwise harass ships of the U.S. Navy.

Cover all of your home’s windows. Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8” marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking.
Install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure. This will reduce roof damage.
Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant.
Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.
Reinforce your garage doors; if wind enters a garage it can cause dangerous and expensive structural damage.
Plan to bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down.
Determine how and where to secure your boat.
Install a generator for emergencies.
If in a high-rise building, be prepared to take shelter on or below the 10th floor.
Consider building a safe room.

During a Hurricane

If a hurricane is likely in your area, you should:

Listen to the radio or TV for information.
Secure your home, close storm shutters and secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors.
Turn off utilities if instructed to do so. Otherwise, turn the refrigerator thermostat to its coldest setting and keep its doors closed.
Turn off propane tanks
Avoid using the phone, except for serious emergencies.
Moor your boat if time permits.
Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purpose such as cleaning and flushing toilets. Fill the bathtub and other larger containers with water.
Find out how to keep food safe during and after and emergency.

You should evacuate under the following conditions:
If you are directed by local authorities to do so. Be sure to follow their instructions.

If you live in a mobile home or temporary structure – such shelter are particularly hazardous during hurricane no matter how well fastened to the ground.
If you live in a high-rise building – hurricane winds are stronger at higher elevations.
If you live on the coast, on a floodplain, near a river, or on an island waterway.

Read more about evacuating yourself and your family. If you are unable to evacuate, go to your wind-safe room. If you do not have one, follow these guidelines:

Stay indoors during the hurricane and away from windows and glass doors.
Close all interior doors – secure and brace external doors.
Keep curtains and blinds closed. Do not be fooled if there is a lull; it could be the eye of the storm – winds will pick up again.
Take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest level.
Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object.
Avoid elevators.

After a Hurricane

Continue listening to a NOAA Weather Radio or the local news for the latest updates.
Stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding even after the hurricane or tropical storm has ended.
If you have become separated from your family, use your family communications plan or contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS/1-800-733-2767 or visit the American Red Cross Safe and Well site: www.safeandwell.org

The American Red Cross also maintains a database to help you find family. Contact the local American Red Cross chapter where you are staying for information. Do not contact the chapter in the disaster area.

If you evacuated, return home only when officials say it is safe.
If you cannot return home and have immediate housing needs. Text SHELTER + your ZIP code to 43362 (4FEMA) to find the nearest shelter in your area (example: shelter 12345).
For those who have longer-term housing needs, FEMA offers several types of assistance, including services and grants to help people repair their homes and find replacement housing. Apply for assistance or search for information about housing rental resources
Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed¬ out bridges. Stay off the streets. If you must go out watch for fallen objects; downed electrical wires; and weakened walls, bridges, roads, and sidewalks.
Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company.
Walk carefully around the outside your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage before entering.
Stay out of any building if you smell gas, floodwaters remain around the building or your home was damaged by fire and the authorities have not declared it safe.
Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of damage, both of the building and its contents, for insurance purposes. If you have any doubts about safety, have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before entering.
Use battery-powered flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles. Note: The flashlight should be turned on outside before entering - the battery may produce a spark that could ignite leaking gas, if present.
Watch your pets closely and keep them under your direct control. Watch out for wild animals, especially poisonous snakes. Use a stick to poke through debris.
Avoid drinking or preparing food with tap water until you are sure it’s not contaminated.
Check refrigerated food for spoilage. If in doubt, throw it out.
Wear protective clothing and be cautious when cleaning up to avoid injury.
Use the telephone only for emergency calls.
NEVER use a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, sheds, or similar areas, even when using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off.

Romney campaign returns to Granite State where it began

Mitt Romney's last full day of campaigning for the 2012 presidential race will take him Monday night to the battleground state where his quest began: New Hampshire.

For Doug and Stella Scamman, it's only fitting that Romney's election eve politicking includes their home state. They hosted his June, 2011 campaign launch, at their sprawling farm in Stratham.

"Mitt Romney was the best person and the best qualified," Stella Scamman said in a telephone interview. "From Day One, we have been with him."

President Obama leads Romney by an average of about 2 percentage points in New Hampshire, according to recent statewide polls compiled by RealClearPolitics. The GOP standard-bearer is a known quantity to Granite State voters, spending his summers with his family at their vacation home near Lake Winnipesaukee and from his days as governor of neighboring Massachusetts.

Romney's New Hampshire event is a rally in Manchester featuring Kid Rock, whose song Born Free has been the GOP nominee's campaign anthem. The Associated Press reports Romney is considering making an additional trip to Ohio on Tuesday.

Doug Scamman, a former speaker of the New Hampshire House, and his wife, also an ex-legislator, backed Rudy Giuliani in the 2008 GOP primaries. After checking out the 2012 crop of Republicans and hearing from Massachusetts lawmakers about Romney's record in the Bay State, the Scammans decided that Romney's business, government and Olympics experience would serve him well in the White House.

Hundreds of people flocked to the Scammans' property on that June day last year to hear Romney outline his vision and criticize Obama for having "failed America."

The old dairy farm, formerly known as the Bittersweet Farm, includes more than 200 acres in conservation and 40 acres for growing vegetables and where the Scammans' house and barn are located.

Supporters waved American flags as Romney spoke, and Ann Romney helped serve chili to the guests. Her recipe, along with pictures from the campaign launch, are featured in Stella Scamman's cookbook that came out last year.

Today, Stella Scamman says people who drive by the property mistake it as Romney's state campaign headquarters because their support for the candidate is readily apparent. She estimates as many as five people a day stop by the house, asking where to get similar yard signs.

Doug Scamman says he believes the race will come down to the economy, just as Romney noted on his farm last year.

"The country needs someone who can go in and be able to get efficiencies built into the government and work with all the people," Scamman said. "He can make things happen."

Many pundit predictions favor Obama

Monday is the last full day of campaigning, and predictions on the presidential race are rolling in — many of them favoring President Obama.

Nate Silver, whose FiveThirtyEight blog has been much discussed this election season, says the president now has an 86.3% chance of winning the Electoral College on Tuesday against Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Silver projects around 307 electoral votes for Obama; 270 are needed to win.

Meanwhile, the "crystal ball" at the University of Virginia Center for Politics predicts a 290-248 electoral victory for the president.

"With a slight, unexpected lift provided by Hurricane Sandy, Mother Nature's October Surprise, President Barack Obama appears poised to win his second term tomorrow," the center writes. "Our final Electoral College projection has the president winning the key swing states of Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio and Wisconsin."

And Taegan Goddard's Political Wire reports:

"Dave Wissing notes that if final polls from The Economist/YouGov are correct, President Obama will win 303 electoral votes.

"The final Reuters/Ipsos polls suggest Obama will win 294 electoral votes.

"The final Public Policy Polling surveys point to an Obama landslide of 332 electoral votes."

Of course, these are all predictions -- they'll count up actual votes on Tuesday.

And Republicans have predictions of their own -- a Romney victory.

Wrote long-time George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove: "Sometime after the cock crows on the morning of Nov. 7, Mitt Romney will be declared America's 45th president. Let's call it 51%-48%, with Mr. Romney carrying at least 279 Electoral College votes, probably more."

It won't be long now.

It's slick, it's tempting, but do you really need an iPhone 5?

To be sure, it's likely to be a blockbuster smartphone, and a whole lot of people will be waiting in line for it Friday.

But if you're not a diehard Apple fan, here are five Smartphone that we think can give the iPhone 5 a run for its money. You can see what they look like here.

Samsung Galaxy S III

The Galaxy S III is available from all four major U.S. carriers. It comes with a large 4.8-inch HD screen, but it's still a comfortable phone to hold. The Samsung flagship runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating software and can connect to high-speed 4G LTE service on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

The phone is available in blue, white and red if you get it from AT&T. Verizon, Sprint and AT&T sell the 16 GB version of the phone at $199, and you can also get a 32 GB version from Sprint or Verizon for $249. The lowest price for the phone from T-Mobile is $229.99, and its pricing depends on the type of plan you have.

Galaxy Nexus

The Android with the most advanced operating system is unsurprisingly Google's own: the Galaxy Nexus. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features a 4.65-inch HD screen. It can connect to 4G LTE service, which you need for watching videos or playing games.

You can pick up the Galaxy Nexus with 32 GB for $99 from Sprint or Verizon with a two-year contract. You can also get a version of the phone directly from Google for $349. It has 16 GB of storage and will work with AT&T and T-Mobile.

HTC One X

Another popular choice is the HTC One X, which is available from AT&T for $99 on a two-year contract. It has 16 GB of storage.

The HTC One X runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, can connect to 4G LTE and has a 4.7-inch HD screen.

HTC EVO 4G LTE

The HTC EVO 4G LTE is similar to the One X but is available from Sprint.

It also features a 4.7-inch HD screen, runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and can connect to 4G LTE. It comes with 16 GB of storage, but unfortunately for Sprint users, it costs $199.

Motorola RAZR M

If you're looking for a small-framed phone with a large screen like the iPhone 5, the Motorola RAZR M might make a good choice. It sports a 4.3-inch screen, but isn't as bulky as these other Androids.

The RAZR M, which came out this month, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and, of course, it too can connect to 4G LTE. It's available from Verizon for $99 on a two-year contract. The downside? It only offers 8 GB of storage.

Obama Leads Romney In Poll Showing Disdain For Congress

President Barack Obama holds a four- percentage-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll that also shows low approval ratings for Congress.

The poll released yesterday showed Obama with 48 percent backing, Romney with 44 percent. Obama has never trailed in the survey, holding a 6-point lead last month, 49 percent to 43 percent, and advantages of between one and six percentage points during the last 12 months.

Voters narrowly disapproved of Obama’s performance in office, 49 percent to 48 percent. A year earlier, 51 percent disapproved of his performance -- the highest disapproval percentage in the poll since Obama took office -- while 44 percent approved.

In the latest survey, 48 percent had a positive opinion of Obama, compared with 43 percent with a negative view. Romney was rated positive by 38 percent of voters and negative by 44 percent.

Romney’s selection of U.S. Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate had little impact on the race, according to the poll. More than half, 54 percent, said it wouldn’t affect their votes, while 22 percent said they were more likely to back Romney and 23 percent said they were less likely.

Samsung's secret? Ubiquity

The Korean technology juggernaut generates more revenue every year than Microsoft or Apple. And one central strategy has led to its phenomenal success.

Companies become successful for different reasons. Apple, for example, married hardware and software to create premium products. Microsoft became dominant, in part, through hard-nosed pursuit of big business. And Google famously rose by letting data shape its products. Samsung has taken another route: ubiquity.

The South Korean giant has gone after nearly every corner of consumers' homes, from the kitchen to the living room. At the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung won 30 innovation awards for the breadth of products it put on display. And at the 2012 iF Design Awards, which aim to reward beauteous industrial design, the company garnered 44 coveted accolades. On Fortune's most admired companies list, Samsung ranks above Intel (INTC), General Mills (GIS), and Unilever (UL).

Not much surprise then that Samsung generates more revenue every year than Microsoft (MSFT) or Apple (AAPL). Or that, by the end of 2011, Samsung was the world's top TV maker, earning 22.5% market share. In the display monitor market, it was first with 15.1% share. Samsung also owns some 13.5% of the worldwide refrigerator market. And in washing machines, its market share has grown from 7% in 2009 to 9.2% last year. Even in laptops, where giants like HP (HPQ) and Dell (DELL) dwarf it, Samsung has watched its market share nearly double to 6.3% in just a few years.

Not surprisingly, Samsung's sales are up. During the second quarter of 2012, Samsung generated $42.2 billion (47.6 trillion Won), representing a 21% gain over the same period last year. Its profit hit $4.6 billion, up 48% compared to 2011. Nearly all of Samsung's sprawling divisions saw gains, including a 60% jump in its IT and mobile communications business. Operating profit in its digital media and communications operation rose 124%.

Samsung is especially unique in the mobile market where it enjoys an immense following. According to recent data from Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley, Apple and Samsung shared 108% of the operating profits generated last quarter in the mobile space. (The companies were able to nab more than 100% because of the losses incurred by competitors.) Samsung's mobile popularity was further proven last month when the company announced that it had sold 10 million Galaxy S III units in less than two months. The figure pales in comparison to the number of iPhones Apple sells, but dwarfs competitors.

Of course, Samsung faces plenty of possible obstacles. It has no doubt benefitted from the travails of Nokia (NOK) and Research in Motion (RIMM). But there is a lingering threat that Google (GOOG) will release an absolutely amazing product" -- in the words of one excited analyst -- that would upend the Android market. And, of course, Samsung is locked in a patent dispute with Apple over claims that it copied the iPhone maker's mobile products. Naturally, Samsung disagrees and launched its own patent-infringement claims against Apple's products.

Still, Samsung has found a way to infiltrate the home by way of refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, and a host of other products. In other words, Samsung has created a "brand" – a much touted but hardly understood term thrown around by marketers. And that brand, at least for now, seems to resonate with consumers across a host of markets.

Samsung releases source code for the Galaxy Note 10.1, Tab 10.1 and Tab 7 Plus

Samsung has often been quick to release the source code for their Android devices after their launch. Keeping with that tradition, they have now released the source code for the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the Samsung Open Source Release Center.

Saudi Arabia plans new city for women workers only

Businesswomen behind 5,000-job scheme designed to give women greater independence while maintaining segregation

A women-only industrial city dedicated to female workers is to be constructed in Saudi Arabia to provide a working environment that is in line with the kingdom's strict customs.

The city, to be built in the Eastern Province city of Hofuf, is set to be the first of several planned for the Gulf kingdom. The aim is to allow more women to work and achieve greater financial independence, but to maintain the gender segregation, according to reports.

Proposals have also been submitted for four similar industrial cities exclusively for women entrepreneurs, employers and employees in Riyadh.

Segregation of the sexes is applied in Saudi Arabia, where Wahabi sharia law and tribal customs combine to create an ultra-conservative society that still does not allow women to drive. Saudi women are said to make up about 15% of the workforce, with most in female-only work places. Although the number of mixed gender workplaces has increased these are still few.

The proposals follow government instructions to create more job openings for women to enable them to have a more important role in the country's development.

The Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon), which is developing the women-only industrial city at Hofuf, said it hoped the city would open next year. Prince Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdulaziz, minister of municipal and rural affairs, had approved the plan, a spokesperson said.

"I'm sure that women can demonstrate their efficiency in many aspects and clarify the industries that best suit their interests, nature and ability," said Modon's deputy director general, Saleh al-Rasheed.

The Hofuf development is expected to create about 5,000 jobs in textiles, pharmaceuticals and food-processing industries, with women-run firms and production lines. Modon said the Hofuf industrial site was a suitable location given its "proximity to residential neighbourhoods to facilitate the movement of women to and from the workplace".

In a statement it added that the site was equipped "for women workers in environment and working conditions consistent with the privacy of women according to Islamic guidelines and regulations".

The project has been proposed by a group of Saudi businesswomen, said Al Eqtisadiah, the business daily, quoting the business woman Hussa al-Aun. She told the paper: "The new industrial city should have a specialised training centre to help women develop their talents and train them to work at factories. This is essential to cut unemployment among our female graduates."

The oil rich kingdom has one of the world's largest disparities between male and female employment, with a gap of 23%, according to a recent Gallup poll, arabianbusiness.com reported.

An increasing number of firms were insisting that women had to be unmarried to qualify for employment; this violated the kingdom's workforce regulations, reports said. "Some private companies are stipulating conditions such as a woman shall be recruited only if she is single or not pregnant if married," Hatab al-Anazi, a ministry spokesman, is reported to have told the paper Arab News. "[That] is against the regulations approved by the ministry."

Saudi Arabia attracts constant criticism from human rights groups for its systemic discrimination against women.

Last September King Abdullah, who has taken some tentative steps towards loosening strict gender segregation, announced that women would be able to vote in the 2015 local elections and for the consultative assembly.

In January the government enforced a law allowing Saudi women to be employed in lingerie and cosmetic shops, following a campaign by the women's rights activist Reem Asaad. Previously women had to purchase underwear from male shop assistants. The plan is that by the end of this year women will replace men in stores selling abayas, the traditional black cloak worn by women.

Last month a poll of working women in Saudi Arabia by YouGov and Bayt.com found 65% wanted to achieve greater financial independence through their careers. Those under 25 also wanted to make use of their educational qualifications.

Chad Johnson Arrested for Domestic Violence

Miami Dolphin Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson was arrested and charged with domestic violence on Saturday night after an altercation with new wife and Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada. According to police, the pair came to blows just steps away from their home's front door, reports the Miami Herald.

Davie Police arrested and charged Johnson Saturday evening with domestic violence, after a heated argument with wife Evelyn Lozada turned bloody. Police say Lozada, as the couple were returning to their Davie home after dinner, became upset after finding a receipt for condoms in Johnson's car.

By the time the couple pulled into their driveway, the argument had escalated, police said, and Lozada told police that Johnson headbutted her. "She has a pretty good-sized laceration on her forehead," said Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle.

The couple have been married for a little over a month.

Johnson's run-in with the law comes at a time that he is already on thin ice with the Dolphins organization, in part due to off-color comments Johnson made during a team news conference last week.
