Dear Friends,

I have received new employment visa through email. For travelling to dubai from my home country, please advise me whether original visa is required before travelling and how to obtain the original visa (either from employer or UAE consulate in Home country) and what are the further formalities and documents required to travel.

Whether my visa need to be fixed in the pass port before travelling and if so whats is the procedure for obtaining the same. Please advise.

For visa related questions it alway would help to know the travellers Nationality.

If your employer processed an employment visa already, this visa will be delivered to Dubai Airport Immigration Center prior one hour up on your arrival. You might be greated by Marhaba Service who takes care of all formalities regarding customs. No prior visa and no other documents required.

Some Airlines departing from certain countries request a copy of the visa waiting for you in Dubai. If your country belongs to it I do not know because you do not say where you are coming from. Just assuming that you are coming from India - no, that's not the case for you.

Your passport is the only needed thing. Everything else is taking care of in Dubai.

There is not such thing than buying a visa up on arrival. Nationals who do not need a visa in advance, enter free and the other is a transit visa, but you are not on transit.

I don't know where your problem is. If you book your vacation through a travel agency which offers flights/hotels in Dubai, they also should be able to obtain a visa on your behalf because otherwise they would loose business. In case you book your flight and hotel by yourself online, all 5 star hotels provide their guests with a visa.

In case I misunderstood something or didn't get your question right, sorry.

Is it okay to travel to Dubai being gay?

I have some close friends who are a gay and are want to go to Dubai. From what they have told me, they are very respectful of the muslim way of leaving. We have been talking about the differences between western and middle eastern societies and they both agree that Muslims have their right to decide how the life is going to be in their places, what you can do and what you can't do. They don't drink, they don't bother about dressing according to the Islamic rules for men... The thing is they're gay... but they say they are not going to engage in any public shown of affection at all, not even hugs, nothing, in fact, they are always very discreet.

Anyway, they are a little bit scared because all the rumours about Dubai being a dangerous destination for gay people. Someone even told them that the police would make them an interrogation and might check their rooms every day to see if there is any kind of proof that they're gay. They won't tell anyone they're are gay and they don't want to do 'anything gay' (they're not interested in finding partners, they just want to be there for the tourists stuff). They just want to do a little bit of sightseeing in Dubai and stay at the beaches and resorts.

Is it safe?

What can they do and what shouldn't they do?

Any extra recommendations for them?

As long as you don't show any sort of public displays of affection and avoid sexual relations during your visit, you'll face absolutely no trouble at all, even if anyone knows you're gay. Just as long as you "keep it in your pants", everything's gonna be just fine.

i'm traveling to dubai with my uncle because he's an architect and needs some help. my faith is christian- protestant and my knowledge is that the persian gulf is sunni islam.

now i respect islam a lot. in fact islam mentions jesus favorably in the quran and think highly of him. so will the persian gulf be okay if they know i'm christian? we won't only be there in the UAE but also Qatar

UAE and Qatar are both very tolerant to westerners. You have nothing to worry about.

Be careful Dubai has many bars and very cheap alcohol, but you can be jailed if you get caught drunk outside the bar, in public places.

And if you are to visit these place in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, avoid eating and drinking in PUBLIC places during daylight hours. Its ok to eat inside cafes, restaurants and hotels. Only for the month of Ramadan ie:

~20 Aug to 25 Sep 2009.

I am not overly worried, they are the most liberal of all the Middle Eastern countries, but can help think about their fading homosexual laws, where we are condemned by death.

5. Trains are very safe. Plan in 3rd AC or 2nd AC or 1st AC if you are not used to hot climates.

i loved my gf the last 4 years so much .. i helped her with everything i've got ... she used to be fat .. i helped her with a great system of diet.. cuz i really loved her soul & mind. and she turns into a beautiful lady after her diet cuz she loved me soo much..

we really had a great time togther everytime we meet, and she's soo honest with me with everything ... even when we first meet up she said that she slept with 2 men before she knew me...

anyway here's the the ultimate shock... >_<`
so after the 4 years of our relationship as a true lovers... i finally convinced my family to marry her... i was soo so happy ^ - ^``

then i called her ... and tell her that i have to go 2 month's for a business with a friend in dubai.

after that while am in dubai i still sending her sms ... she didnt answer me for a while ... then she started to treat me Strangly ...

she's talking to me as a friend .... i tell her is there something wrong ? i will be back soon and marry u ... she's always muted ... never speaks.

i was in shock no idea what's going on.
i even cancel my buniess and head back to my country to see what's wrong with her..

i called her ... then told her lets meet up in my home.. she came.
she was soo silent , about 2 hours of silent ... She burst out Crying soo soo hard ... i had no idea what's going on, then she admit it that she loved someone else and slept with him !!!!

What do I get my Dad for his Birthday?

It's my father's 57th birthday this year and I'm looking for gift ideas for him. He works in the mobile phone industry, has several phone (for business purposes) including an iphone, likes old WWII movies like we dive at dawn and the colditz story, is into blues/jazz I think- always used to play eric clapton music in the car on family trip (cream, the dominos etc.).

He lives in switzerland on his own (is divorced) but has plenty of friends out there. He travels alot for business, and I mean alot. We're talking dubai one day, washington the next then africa, germany etc etc. He has an ereader (that I gave him last year) which he uses alot on the flights.

I'm really struggling for ideas. Any suggestions appreciated.

The best tourists spots would be:
1. The malls. Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates are one of the most famous malls. Others are Dubai Festival City, Mercato, etc.

2. Burj Khalifa. Tallest tower in the world. You can go to the observation deck called "At the Top" which costs 100 dhs per person.

3. Desert Safari.

4. Hotels such as Atlantis, Burj Al Arab, The Address.

5. Water parks such as Wild Wadi near Jumeirah Beach Hotel or Aquaventure in Atlantis Hotel

6. The Dubai Metro. Its really nice, but travel Gold Class.

7. Night clubs and bars. Famous ones are Sanctuary in Atlantis, Amatista in The Address Dubai Mall, Chi, Keva.

Whereas budget is concerned, it depends on where you're staying, how much you shop, which airline you fly with, how much you spend on transport, etc. It could be as low as $1000 to $10,000+.

I'm only 14 but i cannot wait until I'm older purely so i can travel.
I want nothing more then to visit new places and see something new. It's not like I've lived in a small village my whole life either, I live in Dubai and I travel in and out of England all the time.
But I still want to see the world. I don't just want to visit it and go on the tourist tours.
I have a box filled with travel articles and photo's from around the world and a map in my room covered in pins of where I want to go, sometimes I just sit and watch a movie purely for the location

Anyway, is this normal? This feeling of desperation to travel? Or am I just bored?

Yeah, I feel like that a lot. I want to save up a lot of money and just explore the world, but I don't know how I'd ever make enough money. I have a map like that too.

It really sucks, you have your whole life of working and then towards the end when you're too old to enjoy it and the world's a totally different place is the only time you have the money or freedom from responsibility to travel properly.

I want to visit canada for a month on my vacation coming december (Dec 2006) i have my friends family who is ready to send me an invitation and i have about 33,000AED FD which will be matured on DEC 7 and altogether my bank balance would be 40,000AED+ by then,and my employer will give me all necessary papers.am Indian and working here in Dubai for the last 1year+ and i hold a valid Dubai-Uae residence permit valid till 2009,what are the chances that i can get a visit visa (invited ofcourse),if am eligible can i apply for a multiple entry or a single entry,i plan to stay there for 45days just to see some places and may be after i might apply for a canada immigration in the future by the time my contract with my employer is over.am a Graphic designer by profession.i need some solid answers for this case.becoz i read many articles and its really got only the slightest clue,i wonder if no one had ever travelled from uae to canada or if ever some one did really apply for a visit visa ??

& dont worry... Take it easy

1- Make sure u have the invitation from ur friends or family relatives.

2- Make sure u have a original copy of , ur working place, ur bank statement... The AED 33,000-40,000 (Canadian $9,979-12,096) seems just fine to Satisfy the canadian Immigration officer, that u can support ur hoildays... Please dont tell them much about ur future plans & they may think that u will go there & stay 4ever as an Illegal Immigrate & than they mite reject ur visa 4 Canada.

3- Dont be panic... Or show any unwanted looks... Just be cool & answer the officer any question he asks, but dont talk too much unwanted stuff only short & no long explainations...please!!!

4- Book ur tickets & get ready to fly!!!... Theres a direct flight to toranto on Etihad Airways.

i have been living in the uk for the past 10 years. i just fancied travelling to Dubai to see a friend who is working out there. i am ever so confused by all the conflicting information; i recently came across an article saying that the UAE was now open to accepting people from all over the world on a tourist visa, as opposed to the visit visa there was before. however, i have not seen any websites that reflect this....
it seems i would have to ask my mate to apply for me, as a sponsor etc...
its all so long winded, and complicated

If you are holding a british passport you can get the visa on arrival. If you are a Zimbabwean you need to get the visa through any travel agents or hotels.

British Citizens
Residents of the UK, with the right to abide in the United Kingdom, may obtain a free visa on arrival, which is valid for 60 days and can be renewed for an additional 30 days for Dhs. 500 (US$ 137). Holders of the British Overseas Citizens Passport, who dont have the right to abide in the UK, will also obtain the free visa.

33 Privileged Countries
There are 33 countries that are given the same on arrival free UAE visa on arrival similar to UK citizens. These countries include citizens of France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Malta, Spain, Monaco, Vatican City, Iceland, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, United States (US), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. A new law was passed on March 31st 2003, where the citizens of these 33 countries can only obtain a one-month non-renewable visit visa on arrival, which costs Dhs. 100 (US$ 28). Though the government officially passed this law, it does not seem to be always implemented

For residents of other countries, the visa must be sponsored by an individual, such as a relative, or an establishment. The application is submitted by the sponsor with all required documents.

Emirates allows 30kgs but AA allows 23kgs acc to their sites.. so how much should i carry?

If your bags are going straight through from Dubai to Kansas, then go with 30kg, but if you have to recheck your bags in, then go with 23kg.

The best solution would be to setup a VPN proxy. You can either do that to your home system; or if you don't know how to do that then subscribe to a service like hidemyass.com. That service will allow you to connect to a proxy server in another country using an encrypted VPN tunnel. Since the tunnel is encrypted, no one can see what you are accessing or from where. All they can see is the connection between your computer and the server. All of your browsing and other Internet activity would appear to come from that server, rather than the IP of your current connection. So it also insures your privacy.

The human resources department of the individual shipping lines would be a natural. They will know what the rules are regarding your passport and visa for such jobs. My guess is you need to have a clean record all around, but you may not have to get all that much documentation if you do not leave the ship in foreign ports. If you do, you will clearly need the permission of the country of the port. The shipping company will know what is required.

To be a reporter, the thing would be to go to work for a local newspaper that does a good bit of wire service news. They will want their best, most experienced reporters to do the foreign assignments, but some of the best will have had enough of traveling, so they need new ones, too. If you can go along as an assistant with a good senior reporter, you will learn the ropes. Again, all this depends on whether you can get a passport and visa for wherever you want to travel.

I do not see the point to an employment agency, unless the shipping office tells you they only work through an agency, in which case they will give you the name and address of the agency.

Of course, much depends on what skills you have to offer such an employer.

My name is *********. I was born in a middle class family in India. My father is a respectable person in the community and my mother is a teacher. Since I was a child, my parents always wanted me to become an engineer by enrolling me in English high school. However, I India where I lived there were no English schools. When I was four years old I was enrolled in Gujarati School which was a local language school. After two years, my parents moved to Bombay because of lack of business and for my education. I was enrolled in English school from grade second in Bombay. As I was a small kid, I started learning new things and liked doing different things like painting, craft, sports but I disliked English language even though fellow students giggled at me. I always had problems understanding grammar and never got good marks in English. My teacher always called my parents complaining about my poor grades and bad performance in school. My father never shouted at me even though I was bad in studies but he always used to tell me that one day I will realized how important English language is. As time went by, I finished my grade tenth but didn't’t get good marks so I dropped from my school without finishing grade 12th. My father was angry but didn't’t say anything. I started helping my father in his business since I was out of school. For almost eight years I helped my father in his business but for some reason my father had to close down the business. After the closing down the business I didn't’t had anything to do so i started looking for job but never got one. Everywhere I went the employer wanted a college graduate which I was not. As I was 24 year old I started realizing how big mistake I did by not studying English and not finishing my studies but it was too late. In India once you are twenty you cannot finish your high school. I had to compromise with my life and I started working in a small company and the salary was not so grate. Nothing looked grate in my life and was loosing my confidence. Luckily, I was hired by a travel agency as a tour guide, taking the travellers to Dubai for their vacation trip but even there English was required which I was not proficient. While on my trip I met a girl who was from London. We became friends and got married. She sponsored me and I went to London. The reason behind going to a new country was because for my studies hoping one day I will finish my qualification and live a good life. But it was not an easy task. Even after four years studying was not an easy task especial English. Learning English language was a tough job for me. Teachers were excellent and new their stuff but I did not know any of the words or their meanings. I left the class with a miserable feeling that I had never felt before. But I had to move on and had to finish my courses. i had to changed my self in order to learn English even though I hated

Well, indention and separate paragraphs would be a start.
Usually there is an introduction(beginning), 3 middle paragraphs, and an ending/conclusion. The body paragraphs can change in number, depending on the purpose for writing, but usually there are 5 total paragraphs.

Please advise me what should i do ? I taken up a job with a dubai based company in the year 2006. I got my credit cards AND loan from Banks and i was regularly paid when i had job , immediatley after recession my company fired me in the month of march, 2009 by saying do not require any more due to bankruptcy. As i never dream't of loosing job, i spended out my crdit cards and loan of amt 90000AED from different banks(total). Since i was unable to reply to bank, n came back , now bank is has appointed highly illiterate collection agency locally in my place they are warning my family that i will be getting arrested for non payment. Expatriate employees who leave the country without cancelling their sponsorship and residence visa are liable to get a one-year ban from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Once the ban is imposed they will not be able to get any visa during the ban period. They should therefore cancel their sponsorship and residence visa before leaving the country in order to avoid such problems.

You have to mail your passport to your forme sponsor for visa cancellation. Be aware that you will receive a ban, coz you did not fulfill your contract.

Employees who get a one-year ban from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs can obtain a visit visa or transit visa during the ban period. However, if the Department of Immigration imposes the ban, no visa can be obtained. You should therefore check the source of the ban and apply for the visa accordingly.

I wanted to know that I have been risiding in Dubai (UAE) since last 3 years. My current designation is "Marketing Manager" drawing AED:7,000/- per month. My sponsor (UAE national) is willing to sponsor me to get U.S visit visa, as he already has 10-years U.S visa stamped on his passport.

Lots of interesting places. In the Summer the huge shopping malls (air-conditioned) are nice to walk around & have a drink. The Mall of the Emirates has the Ski-Dome inside, which is a must see. The newly opened Festival City Centre has live music in the evenings outside at the Canal Walk restaurants.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah is also a place you have to go. Modern covered shopping in little 'old souk' style streets. In the evening dining next to the canals where the electric abra's transport the hotel guests to Al Qasr hotel. Go to the Bahri Bar in the Mina Al Salam hotel next door and take some pictures from the Burj Al Arab. Later at night (around twelve) you should visit The Trilogy my favorite discotheque. Or go to Boudoir or The Peppermint.

Go for the nicest local sheesha place with arabic live music to La Marquise behind Shangri-La hotel.

Dinning at the Creek is great at the Boardwalk restaurant (Creek Golf Club). They have also a very nice sheesha seating with modern lounge music next to it.

The Barasti Bar at the Meridien Mina Seyahi is the only beach bar in Dubai and the most popular with residents.

Wild Wadi is a water park next to Burj Al Arab, not only for kids.

Ofcourse only 7* hotel in the world is a must see. But visiting the Burj Al Arab Hotel is not just walking in. You must make a reservation beforehand and that includes a minimum dinner or high tea spending.

You should absolutely drive to Fujairah and even stay the night, it's on the coast and the drive from Dubai is very nice through mountains and parts of the desert.

For a real Arabian desert drive take a trip to Liwa Oasis. The UAE has some of the most beautiful desert landscapes in the world and it's a shame because nobody usually takes the time to go see them and you can't really see it from the cities.

Both of these places are well worth visiting and far away from the crowds of Dubai.

The weather is a big question at any time. This year we have for the first time in years, a very hot second half of August. Temperatures ranging over 30c C. And not rain for over 4 months now.

It should get a bit cooler but so far predictions are not fulfilled.

Anyway, if it follows the usual pattern it should be in the ranges of 25c to 30c C. It will be hot during the day and somewhat colder during the evenings and nights. The fact that it gets dark earlier in the evenings makes the nights longer and therefore your late outings should be cool to chilly. Take a sweater or cardigan with you and long trousers.

Your relatives should not have much of a problem with the exception of humidity that will be far less tan they are used to.

It's a great place. Very hot though. There is so much water in the air that you could almost look at the sun without sunglasses. I hope you're going to see somebody, cause taxi drivers there are mostly Pakistanis or Indians and don't speak English at all. Apart from that in most cases you have to show them where you want to go - they don't know the city. I have been there about 3 years ago and there was no accurate map of Dubai drawn, luckily I could relay on my girlfriend, who used to live there.
When you will be there make sure you will go to Irish Village. Loads of whites have this place as a meeting point at night. There is also nice English Pub with great garden called Red Lion. Places worth to see: (sorry for miss-spelling) Jumeirah Beach and Buj-El-Arab - the only 7* hotel in the world as far as I know. Summer isn't the best time to go there - it will be incredibly hot.
Let me know how was it, when you're back.

I live in Dubai and anything goes. In the daytime people walk around in vest tops and shorts or jeans and in the evening out in the bars and clubs it would give any other metropolitan city a run for its money. Just understand that Ramadan is due to start Oct 14th for one month and during Ramadan it is better to be a little more conservative ie tshirts and trousers rather than short skirts etc but even then there are no rules enforcing this.

air travel layover rules?

hey i plan to travel to US in feb-march. i want to know if i should buy tickets with longer layovers at different airports?
if i get a ticket on an airline that flys from (eg) say mumbai, to dubai stops there for the night, and then continues to fly to new york the nextday (overnight layover) do the airlines provide any accomodations to stay for the night or are we on our own?
are we allowed to get out of the airport(if we have 6-10 hrs of layover in say london), and go sight seeing or something, even if we do not have visa for that country and are just passing through?

The airport will not provide accommodations for an overnight layover - you're on your own for that. Most airports have hotels very close by, with free shuttles.

If you do not have the proper travel documents for a country, then you won't be able to leave the airport there. You will have to go through customs and all that just to sightsee for a few hours, so you will need proper documentation. In addition, you'll have to go back through security when you return. And, many airports are fairly far from the tourist attractions in various cities. All told, you might not have a lot of sightseeing time, even with a 6-10 hour layover.

I have been in Dubai 3 months ago for a job on employment visa in DIFC free zone. I was rejected resident visa bcz of Hepatitus B. Now on my new job I am required to travel to Dubai for a series of meeting for a month (max). If you have Hepatitis B, you will not be able to work in any of the GCC countries as there will be a medical checkup for all new expatriate employees. As for a visit visa, that'll be fine as there is no medical checkup required.

You can take cigs with you just not smoke on the plane! Airports in places like that always have smoking areas so its just the flight you have to last.. Use nicorette gum it doesnt taste too hideous and does the trick, im trying to stop at the mo and using them nearly all the time instead of cigs..

Also you can bring a lighter on a plane, just tuck it away in your hand luggage, i just came through the airport the other day from spain with 2 in my pocket, out there and back and put them in the tray and nobody took them off me.. Plus if they do you can buy one or ask someone at the airport!

Also just have a few drinks on the plane and go to sleep! Also if your in india im sure they have some pretty potent sleeping tablets in the chemists there, i got some from thailand and was asleep before we took off, then didnt wake up til we landed in oz!

I'm going to South eastern Europe for about 2 weeks, and I'm going to Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. Are there any tips for traveling there? What is the weather like in autumn? Will it be fine wearing shorts and a t-shirt,but of course bring a jacket along? And is it also safe?

I am also stopping over at Dubai for a few hours, in the airport,and wondering, what can you do there? Is shopping there for clothes cheap(say like roxy?etc)and do they have rules like not wearing too revealing stuff?Like is it okay if I wear shorts to stop over there?

2 weeks is far too short to visit 5 countries! There is quite a distance between Germany and Bosnia and if you're travelling by train or car you're going to spend quite a lot of time travelling - and there is a mountain range to cross. And even more if you need to do a return trip back to Germany.

There is so much to see in all of those countries. A personal favourite of mine was a weekend in Ljubljana followed by a train journey to Zagreb where we picked up a car for a 2 week road trip through Northern Croatia and along the coast (don't miss Split and Dubrovnik) with a day trip to Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. But that doesn't even touch Germany and Austria which are big countries...

I agree that autumn will be mild. You may get warm days, but you're definitely going to need long trousers / jeans and a warm long sleeved jacket. All are safe assuming you take the usual traveller precautions (don't flash your money around, be sensible with expensive cameras and don't hang about railway stations late at night). I'm from London and would behave in the rest of Europe as I do here!

I worked in Dubai for 3 months a couple of years ago. I don't remember anything particularly memorable about the airport. It's a pretty standard airport. Clothes shopping isn't cheap. You will see a varied mix of people in full arab dress versus tourists in shorts. Personally I would err on the side of conservative (not shorts or exposed shoulders) although most Emiratis wouldn't pass comment.

Yes, they are painted the same, but are not all the same - - and to avoid that trap, - - quite simply, don't be rude [ act superior which everyone here sees through and wonders why] - don't walk around being pushy and arrogant -- be polite and considerate.

On the positive side - - if you present a gentle and mild side, smile first and often, be friendly, I am pretty sure you will have that returned - of course, in Pattaya, that is where your countrymen go and behave the poorest - - but if you emphasize the friendly and kindness inside of you, I think you will do fine and be judged individually - -

Dubai is one of the most safest places in the world. Ofcourse you should not be careless, but no criminality to be afraid about.

You can walk around as a tourist in shorts in most places, but be aware that it is a Moslim country and that you should respect the locals by keeping your clothing decent outside the swimming pool and beach area.

If you plan on bringing a car you will need to pay for London road tax which is mandatory for all drivers in London.

But to reiterate, jabs are unnecessary you can just go to London regardless of vaccination or not.

Why are muslims more humble than christians?

I have never been in personal contact with any muslims until I traveled to Dubai, UAE and Ankara, Turkey. Most young women that I have met are very humble and modest. What I find most suprising is that most of them values their virginity highly until marriage. I thought chastity was forgotten in this day in age, especially when I am from the America, the country that happens to be predominantly Christian.

However, it should be noted that the only reason why you see a greater predilection towards abstinence from sex until marriage in Muslim cultures, as opposed to Christian ones, is because there is a greater social stigma associated with premarital sex it in Muslim societies than in western societies.

Despite how secular Dubai, UAE, Ankara, and Turkish societies seem to be, the truth is that at the grassroots level, fundamentalist opinion still have strong influence over popular sentiments about conventional morality. The tendency for more Muslim women, in predominately Muslim countries, to preserve their virtue, has more to do with a fear of reprisal than any intrinsically greater sense of piety.

Back when village and town justice were prevalent in the United states – say 100 or more years ago – Christian women were also very chaste. Now as we see an ever increasing separation between Church and State, both men and women have diverged from traditional mores because they no longer fear public condemnation.

If you look at Muslim women in the United States, who are unorthodox, you will see many of them are just as promiscuous as secularized Christians and Jews. In short, whether a woman preserves her virginity has little to do with whether they subscribe to Christianity or Islam. Their chastity has more to do with how accepting their families and society are of sexual acts outside of marriage. Trust me, if women in this country feared honor killings or public disownment, you would see more women remaining true to their virginity until marriage.

Of course being induced by fear or public pressure to follow a certain set of precepts isn’t really being moral. True morality is not coerced, but adhered to out of one’s free will.

Please note the current UAE visa rules: if you enter the UAE on a tourist/visit visa and land a job, you have to leave the UAE again for 30 days and re-enter on an employment visa. Exemptions exits depending on nationality and profession.

After obtaining an UAE residence visa it will depend on your profession if you can obtain an Omani visa up on arrival.
Businessmen, company managers or representatives, auditors, accountants, doctors, engineers or employees working in the public sector, their family members and drivers and servants sponsored by them are eligible for a visa to the UAE up on arrival.

A flight Dubai - Muscat will take around one hour.

You should search/apply for a job in the UAE online while in Oman visiting your relatives on a visit visa or from your home country and then enter the UAE on a 96 hrs visa for interviews if necessary. If you land a job, your employer will obtain an employment visa for you to enter the UAE properly for employment.

Foreigners used to come here on tourist visas obtained from travel agencies and went on visa runs on the bus to Oman (flights not possible with an E-visa). This isn't allowed no more (but don't know if all travel agents follow the new law). Many people got stranded in Oman and Kish because they were not allowed to re-enter the UAE.

Actually all 4 airlines are good. You can go to Skytrax and see how each airline ranks. Qatar Airways supposedly has a really good coach class. Emirates I think had the best in-flight entertainment system.

I would probably choose Emirates first, Qatar second, Virgin third and British Airways fourth.

I am a US citizen and while returning from Latin America the officer at Immigration asked me if I have traveled to the Middle East. My customs form obviously did not say Middle East, I am not a Muslim, have never been to the Middle East, my name is not Middle Eastern, and this was the first time anyone would think that I look Middle Eastern. When I said no, I cleared immigration without any more question.

Now, out of the blue on my way to Thailand I have an option to make a free stopover in Dubai on one of those Middle Eastern Airlines. The recent experience has set me wondering if doing some sightseeing in Dubai for a few days is a bad idea. I do not want to get on some kind of watch list or be harassed every time I come home.

I am not looking for a legal opinion (I think legally I can do it) but hoping to hear from Americans who have traveled to UAE and what their experience was at Immigration.

I do not think that you will be put on any American watch list or being harrased. But then - from own experience I have to say, that customs at Atlanta Airport has the rudes customs staff I had/have to deal with from all Airports I am flying in.
It takes my American friend being married to an UAE National and holding an UAE passport hours to go through American customs and her data including her kids' are stored in the American system. She is an ordinary housewife coming from one of the safest countries, a country without any terror links.
Please do not get me wrong. Of course security checks have to be and are necessary, but most American custom staff is extremly unfriendly and rude.

Please do not let the American customs spoil your stay in Dubai. I hope you will enjoy sightseeing, shopping, Arabic cusine and a friendly service. Please visit Al Bastakia (Museum) and the Gold/Spice Souq.

I was travelling from India to Australia( I am an Indian Citizen and Australian resident) via Dubai as transit some time back.It was very unpleasant experience me with immigration.Immigration guys after seeing my passport taken me to some senior officer who started asking me unpolite private questions, he was asking me again and again wether I worked in UAE, I have never been to that country and it was the first time that too transit.He was checking my passport again and again as if I am one of the most wanted peson in the world.After repeated queries the officer asked me to continue my journey. As I have returned to the officer who has directed to her superior , she asked " So are you staying in Dubai tonight back" ?? . I said no, I am continuing my jurney as per my scheduled and your senior does not have any problem with me now. Then I was allowed to proceed further. It was a horrible experience without any fault of mine.I would never like to have an experience like this ever again?? Did any one faced such a situation?

Madinat Jumeirah is far nicer than Jumeirah Beach, anyways. Much more elegant and beautiful, it has the largest pool in Dubai, is the 5th most expensive in the world (in general) and is the only traditional Arabic hotel in Dubai...an amazing place. It is dived into 3 sections, Mina A Salam, Al Qasr and Dar Al Masyaf which is private summer houses, amazing.

I would recommend then the Rotana Hotel in Shk Zayed Road.

The Rotana Hotel is having probably the hippiest and frequently visited bar/clubs within the area. It's called the Long Bar. This place is full of European gilrs who are really oozing with sex appeal and most of them are "game" - you know what I mean.

Shk Zayed as well is the location for quite a number of pubs and clubs within that 1km stretch starting from the Crown Plaza where they have the famous Harvester Pub (great place to see nice "game" chicks as well down to the Shangrila Hotel !

I've stayed in many other three, four, and five star hotels and Dream Palace blasted any other three-star away as well as many of the four-star hotels. There were no prostitutes, which are found at many hotels in Dubai, the rooms were clean and bright, and there were no bugs.

If you are coming to Dubai, you would do well to stay there or at a five-star, and you might surprise yourself with pricing if you shop around a little. There are other good hotels, but anything less than a five-star has been a gamble (and I've stayed in a lot of them).

I would like to travel from Dubai to Kish, the Iranian Island, but I don't know if you travel by boat (ship) or plane.

And from Kish it's a 4-hour journey to Shiraz by car - but how can that be arranged?

I don't know where you got that 4 hour figure, but it's wrong.

First of all Kish is an island and is not connected to the mainland by a bridge. That means that from the airport you have to take a taxi to the port. You can rent cars on the island, but are not usually allowed to take self-drive cars off of the island.
Then you need to take the ferry to the mainland and continue on from there. From Bandar-Langeh (where most ferries from Kish go) it's 750 kilometers to Shiraz, which will take you about 10 hours. So even if you make it in one day, you're looking at around 15 hours+ of travel for the entire trip.

It's much easier to just take the plane - which is usually not too expensive, although around holidays they are often fully booked.

Last I head the Dubai-Kish ferry was suspended, but there are frequent flights to Kish from DXB.

I do not know what you mean by "short" travel. You can obtin a 96 hours visa by flying with Emirates Airlines (they provide this kind of visa) or at the Marhaba Service center when arriving to Dubai (all Nationalities)

A tourist visa (30 days = Dhs 110) you have to obtain through a travel agency or tour operator.

Regarding a visa, only your Nationality is relevant, not where you reside or anything else.

I know Ill need a letter from my doctor to carry with my prescriptions while travelling through Dubai and Brunei but whats it mean when they ask for an Attestted certified letter? If the letter is an original I dont understand what it means to have it attested as well?

You should carry a letter (preferably on official letterhead from the hospital/clinic/doctor) that states what medical condition you have, what medicines you are on to treat it. The doctor should sign it and include his/her name, contact information and licensing information.

You can then take that letter to have it notarised (attested) at the UAE Embassy where you are from (I believe this is the last step). It's basically a stamp of authenticity.

Remember there are some banned drug items and you may also not bring in more than 3 months supply. Check with the Embassy to be sure before you travel.

Dubai is a modern place, dont bother going to museum or zoo and stuff.

Spend a whole day in Desert Safari. It is amazing, a Land Cruiser will take to the desert up the hills on a thrilling ride then u can ride a camel or go motorbiking on desert (4wheel bikes) then u will sit on a camp, watch a belly dancer perform, u can also join her :D, and get henna on ur hands and etc and at the end enjoy a fancy dinner buffet.

Next day, go to Atlantis, recently opened, has water park, diving with dophins, aquarium... This is a bit expensive and it depens on ur budget.
So I recommend, for saving money, go to Wild Wadi water park, and u will love it. Next to wild wadi is Jumeirah Beach where U can see Burj-al-Arab, tallest hotel in the world, dont bother going inside(waste of money and time), cause there isnt anything fancy, just take some shots from outside. The hotel is 7 stared and good for staying but has nothing amazing on the lobby to see!! It is just a Lobby!!!

Last day, just go for shopping, I recommend, Mall of the Emirates (u can spend a whole day and also see the ski dubai) or Festival Center. If u shop from Top brands like Cartier, YSL and Saks Fifth so go to Burjman Center. If u dont want shopping, go to Madinat Jumeirah, it is a shopping center but has all the old antique stuff, nice cool place to chill. Many high-classed ppl hang out there and the cafes are a bit more expensive (but worth it ) u can then go for a nice dinner and do Shisha (must do in dubai hehe) and then go to a night club, cause dubai's nightlife is also famous.

But remember, u will be exhausted doing all this, so plan ur trip nicely. Good Luck

As an Indian National you need to obtain a tourist visa through a travel agency/hotel to enter the UAE.
Visa rules got changed in the UAE from 1st of August 2008. Now also GCC residents need a visa. Both kind of visas cost Dhs 100 + Dhs 10 delivery fees.

Visa means permission to enter into a country or region. As you are not going to exit the immigration (a department that judge your eligibility to enter the country) so logically there is no need to get a transit visa. On the other hand as you are flying through Emirates Airline (they facilitate more than other airlines), they can allow you (without any fees) to go out of airport (enter UAE) to see your friends and relatives. But in your case your free time, 6 hours is too short to go outside as check in time is normally 3 hours. So they may not allow you.
There is too much inside the airport, Star hotel and shopping too.
So have a nice stopover.

Actually I am residing currently in UAE - Dubai. And Ecuador is one great place to visit for adventure and that too, its having visa upon arrival for Indian citizens. The flights either touch, Heathrow London, or Amsterdam, or Spain or couple of cities in US - like Miami or TX.
In the forums I couldnt find the exact detail on if we require air transit visa if we travel through Amsterdam to Ecuador.
There are no transit visa currently in US. So travelling through US is impossible now. If someone has experienced this situation, please share it and advice me what excatly to do. I am planning a months travel to Ecuador / Brazil / Bolivia / Columbia. I am having no problems with Brazil visas and its easy for me to get. But the confusions is about transit visas and increase in flight rates when its going round and round touching all the countries.

Actually, I tried KLM, and the route will be Dubai - Amsterdam - Quito (Ecuador) and return.

I have recieved a job offer in Dubai and was told that rents in Dubai are unbelievably high (no comment on price range, simply the words "unbelievably high") and was recommended to get a place near Dubai in Sharjah and live there and go to my work every morning happily bla bla bla..
Is that feasible? Also, how much ARE rents in Sharjah? I mean are they technically the same as Dubai so no point in maximixing the distance I travel by car everday or the rents are so much lower, it's worth it?

Also, keep in mind, I am looking for a decent 3 Bedroom Apartment somewhere NICE... Not the top of top and la creme de la creme, simply average or a bit above average.

I have got a Visit Visa from Qatar, but now I heard from a friend of mine that if I have a Blacklist in UAE then I cannot enter Qatar.
I was working in UAE and was fired during the crisis period, so I sty without visa more than 6 month in Dubai after I leave Dubai, Now if I wish to travel to Qatar, will it be possible?

me n my boyfriend were together for 2 years now.. i loved him with all my heart n he said he loves me too.. and i gave all of me into this relationship to make it work..
i spend alot of time thinkin about him how to make him happy, how to support him, how to be a push for him to be a better person.. i gave up alot of things in my life to satisfy him.. anything he wants was a goal for me to get to him .. and he treated me pretty good too.. but he never gave as much as i did.. n it didn't matter to me .. until i had to travel away for one month.. he said he was very sad n that he will miss me deeply, that he'll wait for me n call me everyday.. so when i arrived to dubai(where am going for the month) we talked for the first week.. and then after that.. he totally forgot me, he stopped calling, rarely answers the fone, doesn text me back .. NOTHING.. and so i had to ask what was wrong after a week of this wierd treatment.. i keep asking him why are u doin that he says am emptyin my mind,enjoy ur trip n we'll talk when ur bak .. when i say y dont u miss me.. n y dont u care he says nthn.. when i say i dnt feel like u miss me nymore he says thx, when i say i feel rly bad n am gna leave u if u dnt stop that he says thx :S we were like that for a week :S..and no improvment..it was one of the first times i have ever asked him anything.. until i reached my top n asked for a break up
so we did break up..n i keep thinkn he'll call he;ll do nythn.. BUT NOTHING.. its been 10 days now that i dno a thing abt him except that on facebook he flirts with ths girl :S he writes on her wall alot n she replies givin him nicknames :S .. he comments on her pictures callin her pretty and calls her n when she doesn answer he write on her wall to knw where he is..
so anyway.. today his facebook status was "with every end comes a new start.. but you are the first and the last .. !!" is that for me? what does it mean? does he still remember me, does he miss me or care abt me at all :S ? when we were fightin i felt like he was pushin me away.. n i still feel the same way.. i stopped talkin to him for the very first time in my life.. cuz he's always given me less, not do the things i want and not respected wut i ask of him .. will he ever call? will he want me back?
so .. any comments.. please :'( ?

Aw. Sounds like you were way too good for him, love. You should want someone who is willing to love you as much as you are them. He was just not that guy. He took advantage of you, && it sounds like he really didn't know what he had && by the time he figures that out-if the guy ever does-it'll be too late. He push'd you away probably because he want'd you to leave && he wasn't man enough to just say it or how he really felt.

He might call. He might even want you back. It just hasn't hit him yet. But you deserve better than what he can give you, && if he didn't care for your feelings then, there's no point in repeating this in the future. Don't hurt yourself further love. Delete him && go on with your life. He seems to have mov'd on, && if he has then whatever. It probably won't last very long because he seems to be rushing into it IF there's something going on && you have all the qualities he should want...meaning when YOU'RE finally ready to date someone else, you will have plenty to choose from. But if anything just learn from it, never give more than what you are given or you'll end up in a one sid'd relationship, && someone who's putting their whole heart into something deserves he same.

He has moved on. Doesn't sound like he was ever really all there with you in the first place. You deserve better than that. Let him have his facebook sweetie and you go out and find someone that appreciates you for you. Don't sit and mope about him, have some fun where you are and let the jerk go.
