Parr, the quick-thinking and fast-moving Secret Service agent who was credited with saving the life of President Ronald Reagan after the 1981 assassination attempt in Washington, died Oct. 9 at a hospice center near his home in Washington. He was 85. The cause was congestive heart failure, said his wife, Carolyn Parr. Mr. Parr had been an electric power lineman before his Secret Service years and a clergyman in retirement. But he was best known for the fraught moments after gunfire erupted on March 30, 1981, as the president was leaving the Washington Hilton Hotel." ▶ STORY

(CORONA) We live in a common interest development or homeowners association (HOA) in the Inland Empire of Southern California, near the usually congested freeway intersection of Interstates 91 and 15 that converge just east of Corona near the Temescal Valley. Because we are retired, we take special pains not to travel the local freeways during morning or evening rush hours. However, when that is not possible, we occasionally observe thousands on workday commutes and ask the question that follows in this post.

Coffee plants are cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, India and Africa.

No, it's not a misprint, but if you're stumped by the post title, then you haven't read about or viewed the latest Disney blockbuster. The playbill for 'Big Hero 6' clearly promotes this 2014 holiday release as a kid-friendly action-comedy, but the mature themes interwoven are worthy of caution when considering children under age 13, even though very few critical reviews and press reports offer a caveat close to this one.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind "Frozen" and "Wreck-It Ralph," comes "Big Hero 6," an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called "Big Hero 6."

In the Forbes account of the film, @ScottMendelson reports: "Walt Disney’s Big Hero 6 has crossed $100 million domestic on its tenth day, which makes it the fastest-grossing Disney animated (non-Pixar) film outside of Frozen (The Lion King was at $104m on its eleventh day, which was July 4th, 1994). The film dropped 35% on its second weekend, just a shade higher than Wreck it Ralph (-32% in weekend two) and earned $36.01m over its second weekend, which is the biggest second weekend gross for a Disney animated film ever.

Most of the rest of the USA doesn't understand or fully appreciate how much we welcome rain in LaLa Land. Given our former days in residence around places like Portland, Oregon, (early 70s), we have certainly seen a dearth of moisture for many of the 26 years we have lived in SoCal.

This post is in tribute to my middle brother Bob, now 65, who served in the 1970s in Vietnam in the Marine Corps.

If you haven't noticed, this 'social current see' of many US military establishments makes it apparent that social sites like Facebook draw much attention to private and public concerns alike. Notable today, is the anniversary for the USMC. The United States Marine Corps is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces.

According to this source, the U.S. Marine Corps is one of the four branches in the U.S. Department of Defense as well as one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. It operates posts on land and aboard sea-going amphibious warfare ships around the world. The Marine Corps has been a component of the U.S. Department of the Navy since 1834, working closely with naval forces for training, transportation, and logistics.

Hidden Cash is a movement founded by Jason Buzi and Yan Budman using the Twitter account of the same name. On May 22, 2014, Hidden Cash began hiding money in San Francisco, CA and tweeting out clues using the handle. Followers are encouraged to tweet a photo of themselves with the money they find, and Hidden Cash retweets these.
