In the world of baseball cards nothing in my opinion says "play ball" like a set of topps baseball cards. Every year collectors look forward to the release of the latest editions and the 2007 Topps Baseball Card Set is no exception to this rule.

This year the set is 660 cards broken down into what has become the traditional Series 1 and Series 2 Sets, and each set consists of 330 cards which makes the 660 total cards. If you are buying the cards in pack form they had series 1 and series 2 boxes which came in several different forms such as Hobby Boxes, Retail Boxes, and Home Team Advantage Boxes. The Home Team Advantage Boxes contain 1 relic card and 1 autograph card per box, so if you are looking to make sure you score some extra inserts in your box then you need to make sure you pick up a Home Team Advantage box.

Well no matter whatever 2007 Topps Baseball Card Packs you pick up I assure you that you will be quite pleased with what you get. One of the cards that set the baseball card world on fire in the 2007 set was the Derrek Jeter card. This card can only be found in packs and is not inserted into factory sets. 2008 Topps Baseball Card Sets

In 2008 Topps put out their baseball card set into the familiar two series format. Topps Series 1 and 2 had the same format for pack format as years past. They came in both HOBBY BOXES and JUMBO BOXES. The hobby boxes contain 36 packs of ten cards and the jumbo boxes contain 10 packs of 46 cards. When Series 2 came out Topps included one relic (this is a memorabilia card) or autograph card on average per box.

Well lets talk about how the cards looked overall. I will break it down into the front and back of the card:

The Front:

They did change their style (which I think was a good thing) over the 2007 Topps Baseball Card Sets. They got rid of the black borders and replaced them with a white frame-like border. Across the top of the baseball card is these colored circles with the players team name in it. Now this was not a earth shattering design in my opinion but it did give a slight retro look to them that grew on me the more I collected them. The finishing touch to the card is the silver foil that make up the players name and the Topps logo.

The Back

The back is a nice full color back that make it nice and easy to read the stats of the players. I remember in years past that the stats were hard to read due to black ink on a solid color, but that is not the case here. If you are a stat nerd like I am you look at the backs and for 2008 I give it two thumbs up.

Series 1 Set Breakdown

The 2008 Topps Series 1 set has 330 cards in it that includes veterans, managers, league leaders, playoff highlights, award winners and 30 rookie cards that contain the "MLB Rookie Card" logo on it.

Series 1 Inserts

Parallels are a common pull out of packs in the 2008 edition, however there aren't that many that detract from the core set of cards. In my opinion it is just enough sprinkles on this sundae to keep pack busting fun and exciting. Here is a quick breakdown of the inserts:

Gold inserts - look the same as the base cards but have gold foil instead of silver foil. You tend to get one in about every two packs, and are numbered to 2008.

Black - These come only in hobby boxes and are numbered to 57

Platinum - These are true gem cards because they are numbered 1-of-1, and they can show up in any type of pack.

Other inserts that you will find in 2008 Topps Series 1 Packs is the "Own the Game" series with 25 cards, Mickey Mantle Home Run History, and The Mickey Mantle Story. Now I do love the "Own the Game" series some collectors like me are a bit worn out with the Mickey Mantle insert cards, because they have been done several times before.

2008 Topps Series 2

Well as you can guess from previous years that the Series 2 doubles the card set by introducing another 330 cards to the base set bringing the total 2008 Topps Set to 660 cards. Just like series one the set contains veterans, managers, All Star cards and rookie cards with the "MLB Rookie" logo.

Series 2 Inserts

Well in 2008 Topps for the first time ever guaranteed a relic card or an autograph in EVERY Series 2 Hobby box.The inserts are the same as Series 1 with one exception. There are insert cards called "Silk Cards", and what you just thought is true. They are made out of silk, numbered to 50, and are encased in a special frame for durability.

Well in my opinion the 2008 Topps Baseball Card Sets (Series 1 and 2) are an outstanding value. They do a good job in presentation and keep the pack busting fun and exciting. 2009 Topps Baseball Card Set

The 2009 Topps Baseball Card Set is another great card set. The 2009 Topps set was the second consecutive year of using solid white borders with a home plate in the bottom right hand part of the card. The home plate contains a vivid and crisp team logo. The cards in this set are mostly vertical, however there are some horizontal cards mixed in to add some variety into the set.

The 2009 Topps baseball card packs have "parallel" cards that were randomly inserted into packs. The "parallel" cards break down into three types:
Gold cards numbered to 2009
Black cards numbered to 58.
Framed Silk cards are numbered to 50

Also in every 2009 Topps hobby box you will get an autograph card (like the one featured to the right) or a relic card. These cards are very collectible, so if you are looking to get some great cards make sure to pick up a hobby box before they are gone forever.
