Oh wait. The magazine burned when the missile hit the living room. And I can't find the kids. Well, what a heck of a clean invasion. Hopefully they'll bring Wallmart in soon and I can buy microwave popcorn.

- Tiny Montgomery

@ Stan: Slightly agree about the censoring of H&F, but just as I enjoyed Howard Stern when I had Satellite, I wasn't put out on Bubba Booey's night at scores or any NY references. Just was into the banter back and forth with Gary, and Robin, and the guests they had.
I actually wish they talked less of Dean Blundell, just never listened, and have no interest in what he is doing.

- Rick C in Oakville

On this the 70th anniversary of the Red Army liberating Aushwitz, a very moving NFB documentary on a Canadian Jewish survivor of 11 camps visiting Belsen Belsen in 1965.
I'm with you.

Their take on the Dean Blundell interests me and probably a huge segment of their listeners who live in the Toronto area. They have 20+ years in the radio business. What else are they going to talk about except what they know?

Well, my Nets were supposed to play last night, but they didn't because of the snow. That means they didn't lose. Tonight my Coyotes and my Habs both play. That's wonderful. Hockey started up again. Anyway, I'm in the Provincials curling pool. Yes, there is a pool for men's provincials. Everyone has a team and the winner gets $20.00. I have Kean. I was going to take Balsdon because my trainer's friends play on it, but one guy picked them first and I picked Kean so if they win, I get $20.00. Currie qualified for Northern Ontario provincials. Currie hopefully goes to the Brier again and wins the Brier.

- Cheryl

There was no Al-Queda in Iraq. Or terrorists blowing up markets (yes Argie I'm really sure you care about the 'ragheads' being blown up as they shop) in Iraq. This shit would have been stomped on hard by the dictator Saddam. All this hell on earth for the average person was unleashed by the western powers who know well the old

@Argie: Sorry you stated quick and clean. I can reype your post, or you can scroll up. I took issue with the quick and CLEAN part. Emphasis on the clean part you mentioned(by all accounts?? whose accounts?) That is where you are deflecting.

The fact that it was so terribly the oppostie of clean is precisely what created a vaccum, which in turn created conditions rype for the growth of terrorism. Are they responsible for all terrorism? No. What is happening in Iraq is a direct result however of the US intervention there. Many of the people that were jailed by the US in Iraq all met and conferred and created a common bond in their hatred of the US during the invasion.

For the record Cheney and Bush are responsible for a fair portion, but not all

- Ben V

I had a response to the Iraq war stuff on the tip of my typing fingers but..nah.

My wife and I bought new skates for the three of us at Christmas time , I haven't skated for 20 or so years so i'm a 'bit" wobbly to say the least LOL. However we are having an awesome time and have skated every weekend this month ,even on our kidless "off" weeks . Speaking of whom Morgan is progressing so fast it's freaky. she did a couple of circuits holding the wall at Albion area our first time out and since she just gets better and better. We went to the outdoor skating trail at Samuel Smith park last week and i could barely keep up.

So this past weekend the Village (parents and stepparents we all get along great) took Morgan for a weekend at horseshoe as her stepmom had a deal and a friend who could give lessons. once again i was doing something i hadn't for more than 20 years (and was gratified to not totally suck) (mostly) The third run down the hill Morgan was off and running.

It's so amazing to watch her growing and learning like that. I am one lucky Guy.

On a down note our male cat Henry was limping when we got home and very obviously in a great deal of pain. Atrip to the vet yesterday and a diagnosis of a torn ACL has not made us or him all that happy . :( The vet said surgery but he's 15 and i'm not certain sedation is a great idea. a friends cat had a torn ACL and all she did was 3 months rest.Tricky decision.

- James Edgar

@Ben
I stated the invasion was quick. Yeah there were plenty of crap that ensued but to blame Bush & Cheney for all of the terrorist attacks is crazy. That's my point - no "deflection" (wow, another over-used cliché).

The genesis of this pointless debate is Tiny's assertion that somehow the crap-pot regimes in the middle east (essentially all of them , with the exception of big, bad Israel) can be blamed on this invasion. That's also crazy.

- Argie

@Argie: Weren't soldiers humiliating and torturing prisoners?

I guess when they dropped bombs and those bombs blew up the markets it isn't the same thing?

I got a chuckle out of your quick deflection on the argument of Iraq being a quick and clean mission. Nothing more to add to that? How about all the military top brass that continue to say they should have never gone in and it was a massive disaster? Or are you just relying on Georgie boy standing on an aircraft carrier saying "mission accomplished" for your historical information?

War is war is war is war. There is nothing 'neat and clean' about bombing cities. Smart bombs take out neighbourhoods because they aren't so smart. Torture photos show what was happening in Iraq. Patriots fight invaders even after the war is 'lost.' Hell is unleashed when you play with the devil. Yes Bush and Cheney were devils in bed with devils. Yin Yang. You can't have war without war.

- Tiny Montgomery

Just when you think you've seen pretty much everything driving on the highways around Toronto...
Westbound in the express lanes this morning, just past Markham, there's a silver Nissan Maxima pulled off on the left shoulder. You can see his tire tracks. He was on the left shoulder a couple hundred yards earlier, went to get back on the highway and is now back on the shoulder. Traffic is crawling (has been for miles and still miles more to go). As I swerve to miss some plastic and metal car parts in the traffic lane, I see the driver of the car has gotten out and is running down the shoulder, trying not to fall as he runs. He's picking up money! There are a half dozen or so banknotes of whatever denomination. This guy is lucky that traffic is crawling. First for the sake of his safety/life, second that it's not windy. As I eventually pass his car, I look back. He had no front grille on his car. Now I know what the car parts are/were. No sign of what he ran into, though. I wonder what the story was.

Maria Sharapova - Her grunting on court is incredibly irritating. Grating, even. As I understand, the grunting is a twist on tactics: to go along with great physical exertion, and supposedly to intimidate (to whatever degree) the opponent. Two grunters on court? I'll skip that match unless I can mute the soundtrack. I do agree that Sharapova is beautiful, though. Tennis tends to have more than its fair share of female beauty, IMHO. Perhaps that is making up for international sports (not too) long ago when you had athletes like the East German women's swim team.

- Douglas

@ Glen
I read that same article with interest.
I am a vinyl buyer. No, not a hipster (I don't own any Mumford on vinyl).
I enjoy the sound and the experience. I find with vinyl I actually LISTEN to the album. It isn't back ground noise. I read the liner notes and the lyrics.
My main sources of music are streaming (usually at work) SiriusXM (in my car) my iPod/iPhone (Gym) and vinyl (at home). I honestly can not recall the last time I bought a CD.
Obviously based on that article I am the exception, and not the rule.

The best part about (most) vinyl purchases is that they come with a digital download. So I get the best of both worlds.

- 519 Rob

Can I make a (maybe) "uncool" suggestion. I've really liked Roger Ashby (CHUM family) for years. Yes, old, dusty and non-confrontational, but he is a legend in Toronto broadcasting. He might be a tad vanilla, but he has pulled in a steady listener ship for years, started in the old CHUM AM days. He has been broadcasting for decades and is in the Hall of Fame and has seen it all in Toronto radio. Sometimes his brand of radio DJ'ing is what you need -- not too demanding, a nice voice, professional. He does have strong opinions (even if he seldom utters them) and it would be interesting to hear about the early days as well as where he sees radio going.

- Gump
