Labour Day Monday is another one of those stat holidays. And one that alot of indie boutiques seem to take off. BUT the usual suspects will be open. Eaton Center and Downtown Yonge, Bloor Street, Square One, Pacific Mall and Vaughan Mills are all open on the Holiday Monday. Anything that is designated as a Tourist area will be open. Add the Distillery District to that list :)

Unlike other long weekends, this is a Civic holiday not a Statutory holiday. What the heck does that mean anyways? Well it means most things will be open like normal. LCBO, malls, shops. All open, perhaps reduced hours (like only until 5 but still open). If you want to be safe because not all independent shops will stay open even though they can, stick to areas like The Eaton Center, Square One, Yorkdale, Bloor Street which will all be open. Also keep in mind that many neighbourhoods with a high concentration of little boutiques typically are closed Mondays regularly.

It is a Holiday Monday because July 1st is Canada Day and if you are stuck in the city and you want to shop you need to know what is open. Certain designated tourist areas are always a safe bet like the Eaton Center and surrounding areas, Bloor Street as well as Square One, Vaughan Mills and the Pacific Mall. Other areas will be hit or miss, like West Queen West I would say there is 50% chance of shops being open as most are indie boutiques so it is up to the owners discretion. Stores like Heelboy and Charlie are open. Watch for special holiday hours. Even some of the big chains on Bloor street operate on Sunday hours so it is always safer to do your shopping after 12pm. This Holiday Monday is coming up and if you are in the city looking for somewhere to shop this is where you should go. The usual suspects like the Eaton Center, Bloor Street, Downtown Yonge, Vaughan Mills, The Distillery District, Pacific Mall, Square One will all be open on the Holiday Monday due to their special status. But I have heard chatter that a number of Queen West stores will be open as well. Because West Queen West is all independent boutiques expect it to be hit or miss as to who is open. GotStyle, Robber, Balisi, Blossom Lounge & Fitzroy Boutique are all confirmed open. Online is always open. Check out sales on this weekend HERE.
