Hello, I have lurked here for a long time but need some advice on my redfoot.

I have had Lois for 19 years. Recently, my husband's job moved us to Germany and Lois came with us. My vet back home (SEAVS in Washington, DC) said she may develop a URI from the general stress of travel and to be on the lookout for it. Lois seemed very normal when I got her off the plane, but I've been watching her.

Her behavior is normal. She is just as social and interactive with us as ever.

She spends more time under her heat lamp than usual, but this apartment is colder than our place in DC because our heat is not under our control (which sucks, but apparently that's common here). I have a second heat lamp on order to make sure her whole enclosure doesn't go below 60F. Right now her basking spot is the correct temp.

She is suddenly VERY picky about food. I normally do not feed a pelleted diet, and use all fresh and have the usual supplements on it. She eats her protein normally, but vegetables and fruits are treated with suspicion. She takes a bite and then spends time inspecting them closely before walking away. She's excited to see food, but doesn't end up eating produce. Could it taste that different here? I ordered some Mazuri, and she eats that happily.

Her water intake is the same. Urine and poop are normal.

She sounds *slightly* wheezy/whistly, but she has sounded like that for all of the 19 years I've had her. When she's had a URI in the past, she sounds downright snotty when she breathes.

So. Do I worry? Should I keep a close eye on her for now, or do we get a vet appointment? The not eating as much bothers me and I'd rather keep her on the mostly fresh food diet instead of a pelleted food.

Any advice you have is welcome. Thanks from Lois and I!

Only me....

So the last 2 days it has been about 60 here in Oregon. beautiful and much needed.

Well, today we woke up to it snowing heavily. Not sticking, but snowing a lot. I LOVE snow, so I decided to go for a walk with my umbrella and enjoy the snow and get some exercise too. Sounds good so far, right??

Well, I started noticing lots of worms on the surface of gravel road trying to get away from all the water in the side ditches. I started collecting them for my boxies at home. Eventually I walked several miles on our road and collected well over a hundred fresh natural worms for my turtles....

My husband had been in town. He had no idea I had went for a walk. He saw someone walking in the snow alongside the road and thought it was a bum. He then saw them bend down repeatedly and pick something off the side of the road. He thought they were picking up pennies from the roadside. As he got closer he realized it was me!! Me...... not a homeless bum picking up pennies....... But his wife.??.. lol
At this rate maybe I will win most embarrassing wife of the year??? haha lol

I hadn't thought about what it might look like...

Who else would muddy their coat pocket with fresh juicy worms for their turtles?????

Now I am curious?????

Hi,

My name is Laura. My husband and I have a ranch in Colorado. We have three sulcatas. One sub adult male named Shaka and two babies Gamera and Gussie. We purchased the two babies but we obtained Shaka from an adoption. The babies are in a three foot vision cage and this time of year Shaka is in a modified walk in closet (sounds bad but we took the door off and put a 1 x 12 down across the door way so he doesn't do a walk about around the office and he has heat and lights). We are currently taking a 8 x 12 shed, insulating it, putting in electric and making it into a permanent winter housing (he is outside in the summer) big enough for all three when they are old enough. I was raised with reptiles all of my life. I did for a while work in a pet shop.... Yes, I heard some of you cringe BUT I was the one that told people the truth about what they were buying, what the adult size requirements were and what they were getting into. (yeah, my boss was not always happy about that).
