We are going to begin limiting listening to 40 hours per month on the web. Because we have to pay royalty fees per song and per listener, it makes very heavy listeners hard to support on advertising alone. Most listeners will never hit this cap, but it seems that you might.

I had a feeling this day was coming.

Channeling media tactics straight out of North Korea, Nike officials confiscated the videotape of a 22-year-old freelance photographer named Ryan Miller.

His transgression? He had the audacity to tape King James being dunked on by Jordan Crawford, a Xavier sophomore. The dunk was a two-handed flush over James, who had leaped and appeared to be in full extension.

The dunk the Nike doesn’t want you to see. What, do they actually think it might hurt peoples perception of the great “King James”?

In fact, the titles of this film are so effective, they reminded me of how rare a thing is truly intelligent, rewarding typography.

I noticed the same thing when watching this movie. If you haven’t seen Doubt yet, see it. And, if you don’t read Khoi Vinh’s excellent blog Subtraction, then start.

The premise is simple: Internet Explorer 6 is antiquated, doesn’t support key web standards, and should be phased out. This isn’t about being anti-Microsoft, it’s about Microsoft’s lack of development in the browser market.

Couldn’t agree more.

And then it hit me. In my 3 a.m. exhaustion, I had failed to type the D in front of the message. I had just sent my request — including my phone number — to all 21,000 of my followers. GAAAAAK!

The new product, called Via, will be sold at Starbucks stores in packs of three for $2.95 and packs of 12 for $9.95, according to the Wall Street Journal. Customers can “brew” the coffee by emptying the granules into hot water.

Count me out.

So began Eminem’s great comeback. As the opening salvo in a musical renaissance that has been four years in the making, and will culminate very shortly in the release of an album that (if you believe the hype) could end up being one of the greatest records of recent times, it left a certain something to be desired.

I can’t wait for this one.

Out of all the performances last night, Radiohead (in my opinion) were the best. The USC Marching Band helped them out with "15 Step." Worst performance of the evening? Easy, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.

That’s the question that motivated Jim Wier to stop doing business with Wal-Mart. Wier is too judicious to describe it this way, but he looked into a future of supplying lawn mowers and snow blowers to Wal-Mart and saw a whirlpool of lower prices, collapsing profitability, offshore manufacturing, and the gradual but irresistible corrosion of the very qualities for which Snapper was known. Jim Wier looked into the future and saw a death spiral.

I love this story for a couple reasons. I (1) hate Wal-Mart and (2) am a big believer that price should never outweigh quality. [via Daring Fireball]

Truvia actually (and literally) stands out from the competition. Truvia’s presence is remarkable. In a flood of swirls, gradients and glowing typography, the simplicity of Truvia is the sweetest of them all.

I’d have to agree, but I think the lack of blue and the choice of neon green is the main reason it stands out from the rest.
