BackUp Gmail does exactly what you’d expect it to do – it backs up your Gmail account to your desktop computer. This app works in the background. It only costs $2 in the Mac App Store, although,it has a few issues.
Here is the thing – if it was just some random app we found on Inetrnet,we’d just say: we have no idea what this app is all about, how safe it is and how it operates with your Gmail data – so,don’t use it!However, this case is a bit different. This app comes from Apple’s own Mac App Store, where Apple assures us,measures are taken to make sure each app only does what it is supposed to do,nothing else.
This is a pure Mac App Store product. There is no way we would ever test an app that asks for our Gmail passwords, unless we had reassurance from someone we can trust.

The preferences panel is quite simple – this is where everything is st up.Though, sometimes setting things up may be a bit different from what you expect it to be.In order to add your Gmail account details you need to click on an oddly-labelled “Check availability” button, which might give you a feeling that you’re signing up for something new.

Here is a few issues that need to be fixed and solved.Once launched, there is no sign that anything is happening at all – it would be nice to see some kind of a progress bar or something, but,it doesn’t exist.Click the Menu Bar icon again and you’ll see a message that the “Backup is in progress” – that’s all you get. There is no pause function. In case you want to pause the backup, quit the app. When restarted, the backup has to be restarted manually.

There is another really unfortunate bug – on two occasions, using the app caused Finder to freeze up completely. To this problem we had to simply click “Relaunch” in the Force Quit menu.

So,how does the app work?It stores your emails in a folder you choose, using the .eml format also used by Apple’s Mail application.Your archived messages are searchable from the Spotlight menu, and you can drag them into a folder inside your Mail if you wish.

Make sure you enable IMAP in your Google settings in order to make it work. This application has to respect the wider network and Google’s servers,so,if you expect the backups to be lightning-fast – you’ll disappointed. It approximately saves 1 or 2 messages per second. So,if you want to backup an account with a few thousand messages – the best solution would be to leave the backup running overnight.Make sure you leave your Mac somewhere ventilated – we’ve noticed that ours got really hot after running the app for a while.
At this point,BackUp Gmail can only deal with one account at a time, but the developers are working on an update that would be able to handle multiple accounts.
Summing this all up – however you decide to do it,make sure you do back it up.There are a lot of stories about people getting shut out from their Gmail. You don’t want that to happen to you, right?BackUp Gmail makes it Setup-and-Forget easy.
Pro: Setup-and-forget ease of use
Con: A few rough edges and bugs, no progress indicator, only backs up one account at the moment

OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion allow you to securely share files with another user without creating a new account for them.Instead, authentication is guaranteed by the user’s Apple ID.Separate password is set to provide a way for that Apple ID to share files and folders on your Mac.This option comes in handy when you only wish to share some files and you don’t want to grant a complete login to the Mac.

How to set an Apple ID as a valid sharing login
1) Open “System Preferences” from the Apple menu.
2) Click on “Sharing” and make sure that “File Sharing” is enabled,as shown by the checkbox next to it.
3) Under “Sharing Folders”,select an existing folder or add a new folder that you wish to share.
4) Under “Users’ click the “+” button.
5) Select “Address Book” and find the person whose Apple ID you wish to use as a valid share login, then click “Select”.
6) Set a password and close out of Sharing.

Using this set up user can now connect to the certain shared directory using only their Apple ID,there is no need to create an actual user account on the Mac anymore. At the same time, they cannot log into the Mac for purposes other than file sharing.
The login procedure is the same as connecting to any other Mac,just remind the connecting user their password will be different.

Connecting to a shared Mac with Apple ID as the login
1) From the OS X Finder, pull down the “Go” menu and select “Connect to Server”.
2) select “Registered Guest” and enter the Apple ID as the name.
3) Use the password that was set by the user in Sharing rather than the Apple ID password, then connect as usual.

Have you ever thought about using a single keyboard and mouse between multiple Macs? How about using your keyboard and mouse, connected to your Mac,to control an additional PC,running Windows or Linux? Now it is possible, with the help of an awesome free tool called Synergy. It might sound like a science fiction, but, you can even copy and paste between the different operating systems!Setting it up is a no-brainer.Here’s how you do it:

Requirements:
1)Mac OS X: Download SynergyKM (free) and install it on all Macs involved.
2)Windows and Linux(optional): Download Synergy client (free) if you want to share a keyboard and mouse with a PC.
3)Make sure each computer is on the same local network.
Next step is to confirm that SynergyKM and Synergy is installed on each computer you wish to share a keyboard and mouse between.Almost every operating system is supported, including Mac OS X Snow Leopard,OS X Lion,OS X Mountain Lion,Windows XP through Windows 7,Ubuntu Linux,Fedora Linux etc.But these instructions will cover the setup with SynergyKM from a Mac standpoint. The only difference when connecting a Windows or Linux computer is the respective interface used to setup the connection.
In order to make this walkthrough simple and easy to understand we’ll define the main Mac with the attached keyboard and mouse as the “host server” and any connected Macs, sharing that keyboard and mouse – as a “client”.This is a multiple step process that starts with the host server and moves on to each client from there.

Share a single keyboard and mouse between multiple Macs.
From the Host Server:
1)Open System Preferences and click the “SynergyKM” control panel.
2)Under “General” choose “Share my keyboard and mouse” and click the “Turn Synergy On” button.

3)Click the “Server Configuration” tab, this is where you will set up the arrangement and orientation of each computer..
4)Click the “+” button to add computers.First add the host server and name it after the machines network Sharing name(MacBook Pro,for instance),then add more screens as appropriate, naming each after their respective network, share names and place them according to their physical layout.

5)On the host server computer, confirm that Synergy is turned on from the General tab and then move to the client computers.
Now,your host server status should be waiting for client connections.

From the Client Computers:

1)Open System Preferences and click the “SynergyKM” control panel.
2)Click on “General” tab and choose “Connect to a shared keyboard and mouse”

3)Click the “Client Configuration” tab and enter the hostname of the Server,or type in the host machine’s IP-address.
4)Go back to the “General” tab and click “Turn Synergy On”
The “Status” shown at the bottom of SynergyKM host and client machines should now say “Connected”.
Voila! As simple as that. Now you are able to drag the mouse cursor between each computer.
It is crucial to name each entry to match the machines network Sharing name.Find the names clicking on “Sharing” panel in the System Preferences on each Mac,it will be next to “Computer Name”.If you experienced problems with setup or connections,it is almost certainly related to the naming of either the host server or the clients.

Not so long ago Apple came up with iTunes U,which made it clear, that the company is aiming to make the iPad omnipresent in academia. It’s not a secret that the iPad is really growing into a legitimate alternative to the PC.For students that means than the iPad is becoming a great and a very powerful learning tool that is good for a lot more than just reading.

I had a chance to sit down with a Boston-based PhD student, who, for the past twelve months, have been using her iPad almost exclusively for her studying process. Here are the crucial peripherals and apps she uses and highly recommends in order to fully equip your iPad for academical use.

Stylus – (peripheral)

Stylus is going to be a crucial tool, when it comes to annotating electronic documents and drawing diagrams and pictures. Your finger will work fine under many circumstances, but, stylus will let you make notes and marks in documents with far more precision. It makes it so easy to underline text in PDF or to draw a detailed chart, when you have a fine-tipped stylus. There is a big number of options out there,so it is really up to you to do some research and decide on a stylus that works best for you. There are few significant recommendations, such as Wacom Bamboo Stylus, as well as the Targus Stylus for the iPad.
Start using your stylus in your note taking and reading apps. You’ll be amazed at how precise you can get when it comes to underlining, making marks, and drawing charts.

Keyboard – (peripheral)
There are quite few options for keyboards.Whether it’s going to be Apple’s Wireless keyboard or something just a tiny bit fancier, like the ZAGGfolio keyboard case you choose.Make sure its well-reviewed and well-designed. Our student uses Apple’s Wireless keyboard because of it’s lightweight and compact design, usability with Macs and a reasonable price (about 69$).Once again, there is a great list of options you want to explore, before you make your final choice.
The iPad’s touchscreen keyboard works great for typing a small amount of text, but you’re going to face a serious challenge when there’s a need in taking notes in a short period of time, and if you can’t keep up – your iPad is not going to be your primary studying tool. That is when your portable keyboard comes in handy. Whenever you’re going to have a class – bring it with.

Notability – Note taking app
Notability is one of the most efficient note taking apps available. Our PhD student said it is one of her favorite and the most frequently used apps.It is literally loaded with almost every possible feature and it provides a huge range of tools every student needs. Here’s what Notability offers: 1)Text-based note taking; 2)Fully-integrated and quick drawing capabilities; 3)Audio recording with replay, synchronized with user input; 4)Ability to organize notes within multiple notebooks (by course title). Priced at 0.99$,Notability is available for everyone.According to our PhD student’s opinion,Notability suits best to the needs of an average student.
Notability is going to be extremely useful for students in note taking. Make sure you use it to take notes at every single class you attend and take the advantage of using the audio recording feature. A chance to go through your notes, backed up with an audio portion will be a great deal of help, when reviewing material for exams.

Taking notes is easy!

iAnnotate PDF – Your Reading App.
Very often, entire courses are based on reading from primary sources, which, sometimes, are given to the student in the form of digital handouts. That is where iAnnotate PDF steps in. It is feature-packed PDF reader and annotation tool. It might seem a little bit pricey at first (9.99$),but,it’s ability to organize documents within nested folder hierarchies sets it apart from competing apps. This app is the best solution for students who read a lot of electronic literature.
iAnnotate PDF should be used whenever you read your digital course. This app can easily search through all of your documents(as long as those documents contain textual content),which makes it really simple to find certain passage, quote, document. That is going to be a very handy feature when studying for exams, searching for references and writing papers. The variety of document marking options is wide indeed – you can underline, highlight, use textual annotations, drawings and audio notes.

You can even share your documents via iAnnotate PDF. There’s even a way to control how you share them. You can either share the original PDF,or iAnnotate PDF version, or flattened (edit-protected) version of your document.

Photo To PDF / DocScanner – Paper Document Conversion App.
It’s wise to have an app that would let you use the camera on your iPad to take pictures of certain documents and to convert them into PDF for easy reading (for instance, reading and annotating in iAnnotate PDF). There’s a big variety of different apps to do this. CamScanner Free (free),Photo to PDF (2.99$) and DocScanner (3.99$) were the choices our PhD student made. It might not be a bad idea to choose one that has OCR capabilities, when selecting a document scanner. That aspect is going to be useful for document searching apps, such as iAnnotate PDF.
You’ll find it useful to snap pictures from large and heavy books, instead of carrying those wherever you go.

Getting all these items will make your studying process so much easier.Great way to get the most from your iPad.

It is enough whereupon you follow some advice of common sense and the battery of your iPhone will thank you for providing you more autonomy and lifetime utility. The fundamental thing is that you maintain your iPhone remote of the sun and that you do not leave it in a car where it is warm, since the heat is the enemy major of the yield of your battery.

Some terms that you must know

By duration of the battery the time is understood that iPhone can work before it needs a charge. On the other hand, the life utility of the battery is the total time that will last your battery before having to charge it.

It consults the use statistics

In the section Time from the last load you will see two elements:

In use: the time that is been your iPhone wide-awake and active from the last full load. The telephone is wide-awake when flames, you use the electronic mail, listening music, sail by Internet, you send and you receive text messages, and during some tasks that are realized in background, like the automatic verification of mail.

In rest: the time that is been your iPhone ignited from the last full load, including the time in which been it has slept.

Update to the most recent software

You are sure always of which of your iPhone has the most recent software of Apple, since the engineers continuously strive to optimize the yield of the battery. By means of the last version of iTunes, you can update your iPhone with the last software. It connects your iPhone to the computer and selects iPhone in the list of Sources. In the eyelash Summary, you click in Looking for updates to see if a new version of the software of iPhone exists. Finally, you click in Updating to install the last version.

He diminishes the use of the services of location. The programs that use the services of location, like Maps, can reduce the duration of the battery. In order to deactivate the services of location, go to Adjustments > General > Services of location or only use the services of location when you need them.

Push deactivates the notifications: Some applications of the App Store use this service of notifications of Apple to warn you when new information exists. Such applications (as those of instantaneous mail) consume more battery. In order to deactivate the notifications push, go to Adjustments > Notifications and deactivate this option. Then in account that you will continue receiving the new information when the application is in use. In addition, you will not be able to see the adjustments of the notifications if you do not have installed any compatible application with the notifications push.

Unloading new data with less frequency. Applications as Mail can be formed to unload data in concrete intervals. The more often unloading of data takes place, the more quickly your battery will tend to run out. In order to unload new data by hand, in the beginning screen it chooses Adjustments > Mail, contacts, calendars > download new data and touches Manually. In order to provide space between the unloading interval, go to Adjustments > Mail, contacts, calendars > download new data and is called on Hourly. Then in account that this adjustment is global and that affects to all the incompatible programs with the services of automatic update push.

It deactivates the Wi-Fi connection. If you do not use the Wi-Fi networks habitually, you can disconnect this connection to save energy. In Adjustments > Wi-Fi, deactivates the function. Then in account that if you often use iPhone to sail by Internet, the autonomy of your telephone could improve using Wi-Fi instead of networks of movable telephony.

It deactivates Bluetooth. If you usually do not use earpieces or hands free Bluetooth, you can deactivate the Bluetooth to save energy. General go to Adjustments > > Bluetooth and deactivate this function.

It fits the brightness. To extinguish the screen is another form to extend the duration of the battery. In Adjustments > brightness, moves the bar towards the left to lower the brightness of the screen established by defect. In addition, activating automatic brightness, the screen will be regulated according to the conditions of light of every moment. In Adjustments > brightness, activates the option of automatic Brightness.

In the year 2011, Apple managed to celebrate three ten year anniversaries thereby, making the year 2012 its first complete year for going in to the second decade of the development of Mac OS X, iTunes and iPod devices along with its retail stores in addition to the latest business categories that are being included such as the iCloud services and the iAd to the Siri function. In this article, I will be mentioning as to where will the company be heading in this ongoing decade of Mac operating units.

The first ever model of Mac OS X version 10.0 was introduced by Steve Jobs in the month of March 2001. He further explained this release as a platform which Apple will be using for the upcoming fifteen years or a rough estimate to be the same time period that was utilized by the classic Mac operating units to power up the Mac line at that time.

Ten years from now, Apple had a tendency to leverage the proven technology as well as the potential of the NeXTSTEP’s core of Unix so as to deliver the Mac OS X a quite viable operating unit that have all the abilities which compete against the Windows NT systems of Microsoft. However, in the past decade, Apple has turned out as a primary vendor of the workstations of UNIX and has also taken up great advantage in the mainstream of UNIX development.

In this decade, there are signs to continue the trend of developing web standards along with incrementally incorporating as well as sharing of the operating systems technologies but on a faster pace than it used to have before. The main reason of this is quite reason, Apple now holds a very important position within the tech world than it used to have five or ten years back. The company has plans to carry on the stature in taking ahead the direction of the computer machines as well as the technology used in software developments as its major part because the company is presently developing the most hardware quantity and is earning the most from it.

Moreover, the company has also planned to hold out a course to pass out HP within the aspect of personal computer based shipments next year. Apple also has a music player as well as a smartphone which leads to Samsung, Sony or Nokia thereby, forcing the groups within the market to divide the sales share of Apple in to several different segments so that they become comparable in several unflattering ways against all the products that are dissimilar, a group of all the manufacturers which are making use of the same element such as the platform of Android and a big shipment of all those products that are neither sustainable nor profitable.

Afar these unit sales, the company also have several other earning sources of revenue and profits as compared to any other hardware developer. Moreover, Apple is considered among those few enterprises which have its very own platform of software development which also offers it a very unique opportunity to create its own differentiating platform of product lineup.

Another aspect is that the future of the Mac OS X and its related iOS devices will have the opportunity to pave new directions in the world of technology. The benefit of Apple is already embedded within the fact that the devices of Android requires 1.2 GHz multiple CPU cores along with a dual processor as well as twice of the RAM so as to cope up with the smooth performance of the interface of the three tear old iPhone 3GS.

There are also indications, that Apple will focus on simplifying away all the complexities involved within the computing world such as the replacing of the conventional file method with the cloud based one, secured files that are automatically updated across all attached devices without even involving a manual intervention by the users.

Going a step ahead, Apple is also expected to enter new horizons and to venture within new markets having its development tools and the great operating system so as to increase its presence on the HDTV’s as well as pushing a bit further within the casual market of games which has been reinvented by the iPod touch.

The year 2012, also marks as the first year of the second decade of the iPod and iTunes of Apple which will be featured out later on.

For those who consider the world of corporate finance is recommended to spend some time in reading the financial reports of Apple of the previous year. In this era, where the economic uncertainty exists, Apple Inc. and its product lineup of tablets, smartphones computers and other gadgets has wrapped up another banner year.

The financial highlights of Apple after the passing of the year now pose a tremendous situation so as to contemplate that the new CEO, Tim Cook, can maintain the momentum in the New Year.

Happy Holidays

The fiscal year of the company starts in the month of October which eventually means that the company has only past three months as its new year. Moreover, it also means that the first quarter of the company also involves the holiday season which is a very important time period for Apple and its related products. In order to determine the exact position of Apple during the holiday session, we have to wait a bit more but if it is something like the last year, then Apple is sure to get a head start in 2012. The reported sale of the company’s product line was $26.74 billion having a net profit of $6 billion.

The largest portion of the holiday sales can be attributed to the iOS devices. In the last season of holidays, the total sales amounted to 7.33 million iPad units which were nearly equal to what Apple sold in the whole year.

Mac Records

The sales reported from Mac operating systems also bolstered the confidence of the company a lot. In the first as well as the fourth quarter of 2011, Apple had sold out a record number of Mac units. The sales of Mac operating units are increasing steadily in the time when other PC manufacturers are struggling hard to simply maintain a single digit growth rate. The example of the last quarter of Apple can be considered when the company made quarterly record sales of Mac systems by selling out 4.89 million Mac sets. The jump of 36 percent in the sales from the quarter year ago was can be calculated to be six times of the growth rate that has been forecasted for the overall market of computers. As a matter of fact, throughout 2011, the Mac systems of Apple managed to maintain a consistent performance in the entire PC market.

The reason behind this spectacular performance can indeed be attributed to a single word: Portables. The laptop lineup of Apple experiences a continuous up gradation such as the introduction of Thunderbolt to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro which appealed a lot to its consumers. The sales generated from portables account for 70 percent of the entire Mac sales in the last quarter which means that from every four Mac systems, Apple sold out one portable.

What’s Next?

The company has planned to enter into 2012 with several stumbling blocks on to the horizon. The iOS devices of the company have thrived a lot but the market share of iPhones and iPads are also expected to gain a lot.

On the other hand, the folds in Thailand will have an adverse affect on the supply of hard drives which can impose a strain on all the PC manufacturers including Apple. However, the performance of the company will be figured out soon when the figures of the first quarter will be released in the next three weeks.

So far, Apple seems to be confident in its capability to keep on its growth particularly on the front of the iPhones. With the release of iPhone 4S in October, Apple is seeing a promising quarter for its smartphones business. It is also known that Apple sold out about 4 million iPhone 4S units on the opening weekend of sales.

Apple has also retained a lot of liquid cash at its disposal. Apple ended the year with $81.6 billion in cash as well as in short-term investments. Moreover, it is also expected that Apple will payout dividends to its shareholders which will be an act which has not be performed out for nearly a two decades.

Tim Cook is very much satisfied with the product pipeline of Apple and the team has also contributed a lot towards the cause. However, most of the good part can be accredited to Steve Jobs who will be missed forever.

Mac OS X Lion was definitely designed to bring in some of the best from iOS on to Mac desktops, but as a matter of fact, users do not believe that there exists such an aspect. So, if you want to remove all the iOS attributed items within the Lion version, here is how to do it.

Restoring of “Unnatural” Scrolling

One of the most irritating changes within the Lion is the default scrolling feature. Though, the feature makes sense within the iDevice because the user is in actual touching the entire contents along with the viewing of it. But, when using a Trackpad, this appears to be quite strange that the user moves their fingers upwards so as to scroll downwards. As a matter of fact, Apple has provided an option to reverse the default setting. Go to the System Preferences and select Trackpad, now press the tab of Scroll and Zoom and uncheck the box of Scroll direction to natural which will bring back the natural scrolling method.

Disable Autocorrect

The feature of Autocorrect can turn out to be very useful but, many a times it may also come out in some big mistakes. So, if you do not want use it, go to the System Preferences, select the Language and Text section and click on the Text, then uncheck the box tagged as ‘Correct Spelling Automatically’.

Disable Launchpad

Although, Launchpad cannot be disabled entirely as dragging it out from within the Dock will not eliminate it forever. When the computer system is restarted or only the Dock is launched, it will be right back in it. However, one thing that can be done is to remove out the gesture which tends to bring up the Launchpad. In order to this, go to the System Preferences menu, select Trackpad and then click on the option of More Gestures. Uncheck the box placed right next to Launchpad. After this, any accidental finger flip will make it to pop up.

Turn On the (Indicator) Lights

Do you know that iOS does not tend to display any sort of indication that a particular app is open? Similar is the case for Lion as its default settings. This again resembles to the iOS as the applications simply launch when you tend to make a tap on them after which only one app can be viewed at a time. This clearly means that whether the apps are opened or closed, it does not matter at all. However, on OS X, it is quite helpful to know as to what is open and what is not. It is the information which is in actual useful rather than confusing. In order to turn it on, visit the System Preferences menu , select the Dock option and simply check on the box of ‘Show indicator lights for open applications’.

Scrollbars

The scrollbars of Lion has the feature to disappear which is much like in the iOS devices. Though, this feature is nice for those who do not want to get the scrollbars cluttered up on the screen but, if it actually helps to see them the user can adjust this preference system quite easily. All you have to do is to go to the System Preferences , select General where there will be presented an option titled as show Scrollbars. Here there will be presented three options, the first of which is the “Automatically based on input device” which in turn provides a default hiding act, along with the option of “when scrolling” will only appear out when scrolling, and the feature of “always” is quite self-explanatory in itself.

Have the Apple Mail Back

While the latest Mail interface of Apple has introduced huge improvements, but not every user welcomes such alterations. Maybe you are missing the wide screen view or there is simply a requirement to remove the message previews from within the list so that more and more items can be adjusted onto the screen. In any way these settings can be altered on to the same place. Simply head to the Mail menu and select Preferences. Now you have to click on the option of Viewing and you will find the option placed right on the top of the window.

The above mentioned steps when followed will definitely lead you to de-iOS-ify your Mac OS X Lion version and bring it back to the original operating system that you are used to work on.

How To Make Lion More Like Snow Leopard

So, you have finally uploaded your Mac system to the latest version, Lion from the Mac App Store. You are very excited with several of its new features but there are still some areas where you wish in your heart that you can get back to the Snow Leopard version and wants things to be done in this way.

Although, trying out new things can be quite sensible at times but, if even after trying them out you still do not like them, there is always a way back to older ways.

Below mentioned is a brief guide through which you can perform several of functions within the Lion in the way of Snow Leopard which might come into very handy at many times.

GENERAL ASPECTS

Scrolling Direction

The very first experience of a default and changed scrolling direction can turn out to be quite annoying many times. If you really want to get this option changed to original, simply go to the scroll and then to the Zoom tab within the Trackpad preference pane or the mouse pane, whichever is being used. In the first option, uncheck the option of Scroll Direction and then Natural. In the second option, uncheck the option of Move Content within the direction of the finger movement during navigation and scrolling.

Gestures

If you are using a trackpad, then you must be very well aware that you might be using a number of gestures for the purpose of switching windows, accessing to certain features and zooming in and out in Lion. Many of these gestures a very differing attitude as it was in Snow Leopard. These gestures can be changed or altered within the trackpad pane on the tab of More Gestures.

FINDER

Within the Finder option, there have been made several changes in the Lion version that might enforce the user to alter the way in which a particular task is being worked. Following is the way through this alteration can be adjusted.

All My Files

The Finder has a default sidebar of a new item named as All My Files and it has the tendency to show all of the files through which a user can work with. However, if you hold many files within it, this feature might be very confusing. In order to change it, press and hold the Command key and drag the particular item from the sidebar.

Airdrop

Airdrop is a very useful way to transfer files from one Mac to the other Mac, however, if you do not have more than one Mac or does not have an activity to transfer files between the two, you can also remove this application by holding down the Command key and drag it out of the sidebar from where it will be gone.

Dashboard

In the previous versions, Dashboard only displayed the presently running applications. In the latest Mission Control, the overall concept is close to a virtual desktop. So, if you invoke in a keyboard shortcut of the Dashboard or use any hot corner so as to get it activated, your windows will tend to slide out in the side making Dashboard to appear out in the view. In order to make the Dashboard overlay other running windows as was the case in Snow Leopard, go to the Mission Control pane and uncheck the option of Show Dashboard As Space.

Get Rid Of The Dock Icons

Within the Dock, there are two new icons added in by default. The first one is for the Lauchpad and the other one for Mission control. However, if you are not using these features frequently and also do not want your Dock to get cluttered up, you simply drag out one or both of the icons from the Dock. But, there will be still present the option of using hot corners or keyboard shortcuts so as to gain access to the features. Though, you might not be able to reverse back to the Exposé feature of Snow Leopard, but you can still use the similar hot corners and shortcuts you used within the Exposé feature of the Lion’s Mission Control. Moreover, if you want to adjust the settings for those keyboard shortcuts and hot corners, you can simply visit the Mission Control pane.
