For the past couple hundred years, there has been one essential outfit, if you will, for a man. That outfit is the suit. The suit is a timeless piece of fine art, and it is the foundation for looking good as a man. Sadly, today, many men either wear suits that don’t fit or hate dressing with class. That is why all men should be educated as to the essentials of being suited up.

When choosing a suit, the most important facet is fit. If you have a hundred-dollar suit that fits, you will look better than the guy in the Gucci suit that sags over him like a bed sheet.

Ill-fitting suits can strike anyone-- even (and sometimes especially) celebrities

Many people fail to realize that most suits are made to be tailored. Unless you buy custom made, you probably need to go to a tailor. The essential areas that need to be covered are the body/shoulders, sleeves, and legs. The body should be slimmed down and your suit should hug your shoulders. When the suit fits the shoulders properly, it gives you that V affect. By slimming everything down, you are creating a more streamlined look that is free of wrinkles and excess fabric. Sleeves should be tapered and should stop just above the break of your wrist. You are going to want to show a little cuff. Your pants should have little to no break at your shoes. Fabric that bags at your ankles makes you look like you have elephant skin.

The thing about suiting up today is fit. Your suit has to fit well in order for you to be taken seriously; if it doesn’t then you will look like the majority and that is never what you want to do.

Outfit of the Day: Inspired by Kate Middleton aka the Duchess of Cambridge

The former Kate Middleton is an inspiration in many ways-- not least of which is in her fashion choices.

I love how she seems to have single-handedly brought back classic, tasteful, and modest fashion choices. And! On her most recent trip to North America, pantyhose! (I've been telling people for years that business attire just isn't complete without pantyhose/stockings/nylons)

Kate knows how to dress for her body type and generally sticks to a few key shapes and cuts.

She loves sheath dresses...

And one of her fashion staples is the wrap dress...

Wrap dresses are great on any body type because they can adjust to play up your best points while minimizing everything else.

I recently got this wrap dress at New York & Co. for about $7! The necklace is also from NY&C and my mom got me the watch from some airport store.

Outfit of the Day: Mixed Summer Stripes

Lately I've ben inspired by one of Jane's little brothers. The kid has some serious style! I'm always impressed with how well he matches prints. ... In fact, I can't remember the time that I've last seen him in something other than amazingly coordinated prints!

Here's my attempt a mixed Summer Stripes:

White camisole: an essentiel de la mode

Yellow Striped shorts; Unionbay-- I've literally had these since I was twelve!

Blue Reptile Print Skinny belt: an amazing deal from New York & Co

No look is complete without shoes! These great $7 Payless finds have lasted me for about a year. This will be there last Summer of use though, because I love them too much. But that's the great thing about $7 shoes-- they're practically disposable!

Summer Makeup and Skin Care

What's a better way to share the summer love than with the summer makeup and care of your skin? In my opinion…there’s not one. And now that SUMMER HAS INDEED ARRIVED (hopefully you've arrived with it), it is time to break out the good times and uh…oh yes...makeup! Okay, so that may not have been the very first thing that came to mind, but in fact the changing seasons do make you change the way that you make yourself look fabulous! Yes, we’re taking it back 70’s and 80’s style and defining makeup by the season. Learning from the classics is usually the only way to go. :)

But sadly, not all of us ladies have been told the truth about summer makeup and skin care (i.e. less is more, ESPECIALLY in the situation of makeup). So often, girls (let’s keep it general here ;) ) get caught up in the tans, cute outfits and summer love without taking the necessary steps to care for their skin. Not all correlate here, but I’d like to help the ones who do ignore this vital part to antiquing well. Yes, by that I mean aging. So you might be thinking, 'I thought this was about summer makeup, *not* Botox??' Trust me, it’s not. :) But in order to have the results you want from makeup, you have to set the foundation (no pun intended) for your skin to be healthy.

So what are some exceptional ways to keep your skin looking the way it should?

Here are some ideas that I recommend:

- 1) Facial Masks: (don’t get scared)

Here are some all-natural, homemade *easy* face masks that are very rejuvenating and refreshing for the skin:

Mask #1: Make a puree of ½ a cucumber and 1 tablespoon yogurt in a blender and apply it on the face evenly. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

Mask #2: Honey. Yep, really that’s all there is to it. Don't go overboard with applying it, though... you don't want to attract any of the bumblebees in town!

For more specific skin types here are some great masks:

**For oily skin- Milk of Magnesia. It is WONDERFUL for people with oily skin, and it’s simple to use. Just rub it thoroughly on the face and keep it on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

**For neutral skin- Mix one raw egg (don't worry, it's okay), 1/2 cup of cooked instant oatmeal and one teaspoon of olive oil into a smooth paste. Apply it on the face and let it dry and then rinse it off under room-temperature water.

**For dry skin- Make a mixture of one egg yolk, one teaspoon honey, one teaspoon olive oil and one teaspoon vitamin E oil. (If your skin feels is extra dry or something on a particular day, substitute the vitamin E oil with one teaspoon of baby oil.) Apply this mixture to your face and keep it on for around 10-15 minutes; rinse it off with lukewarm water and dry it off thoroughly with a towel.}

**{Since it is summer, this one is pretty much a must: for a sunburned face, mix 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of runny honey :). }

All of these face masks are easily do-able, and great for the skin! Here are some other tips to help your skin stay fresh and clean for your summer looks:

2) Moisturizers: Make sure it DOES NOT contain chemicals that will back-track your progress of moisturizing your face. Here’s a quote from the EPA talking about some harmful (and yet common) chemicals in skin products: “This is also known as Methylparaben, Propylparaben, IIsoparaben, Butylparaben. Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. They have been linked to possible carcinogenicity, as well as an estrogenic effect from being exposed to the continued use of parabens as preservatives. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their report "Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in the Environment: Agents of Subtle Change?" reported that the parabens—methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl displayed estrogenic activity in several tests. It is a known medical fact that estrogen stimulates breast cancer and anything absorbed through the skin may be as high as 10 times the concentration of an oral dose.”)

3) DON'T GO OVERBOARD AND DON'T CHEAT!

Try not to overdo it on the raw sun exposure (keep it to a healthy degree), and as tempting as it may be to cheat and use fake tanning lotion, please refrain yourself. It destroys/damages your skin cells, penetrating your skin to a point that should never be touched. *No drama…promise* ;) Seriously though, that stuff really isn't good for you... at all. Stay away!!!

Increasing your care for your skin, will greatly increase the benefit (and purpose) of wearing makeup. Now here comes the fun part…

…but before I can share all the fun color palettes, we have to first determine if you are in fact a "summer girl" (I’ll be doing an Autumn/Winter makeup post when that rolls around, but for right now, we’re going to be displaying the fun that all you summer tone girls can have. This does NOT mean that if you don't have a "summery skin tone" that none of this applies to you. Take notice of what you *can* do for your skin tone right now, and don't worry about the rest. :) )

Here is a color palette that will let you decide if your skin undertones are more specific to cooler or warmer shades:

I hope this chart was able to help you determine your skin tone...but if you're still not sure you can do more research on your own. (or go ask a professional) Personally, I do not really have the joy or the fun of summer makeup (I tend to be more on the 'winter' side of the spectrum), but all of us winter tones do have the fun of being able to be a bit more on the dramatic side with the makeup so that's a plus. But we'll have to save that for another day, another post.

So, now that you've *hopefully* decided whether you're on the ''cool side'' or ''warm side'' we can pinpoint if you're a summer tone or a winter tone. If you're on the ''cool side'', you're a summer tone, and if you're on the ''warm side'', you're a winter tone. Ironic, I know. From now on, I'm going to make it a bit more specific to the summer side and see all you winter babes here in about 6 months! :) ***Note: unless you already have a darker complexion, then you will need check to see how much your skin tone changes over the year.***

So, for you summer tone ladies, embrace those beautiful blues, pinks and purples! :) This is one way that I recommend you complete your summer look for a fun day:

Concealer: Nothing quite covers up those unwanted blemishes quite like concealer.
Foundation, liquid: This is where the color palette for skin tones will really be fantastic. Don't get the foundation color wrong-- take some time to really look through the liquid foundations so you can pick one that blends well and evenly into your skin.
Foundation, powder: *Fun tip- when you're applying your powder foundation, apply in a circular motion for the best results. :)
Blush: *Fun tip- blush how-to-apply's can be misleading. Usually if you buy a typical blush, it comes with a very small brush. The best way to apply your blush is with a medium to large sized brush. It blends more evenly with your skin, giving it a rosy glow that doesn't look like you just dumped all your blush onto your cheeks, because ewwwwthat'sreallynotattractive. Here are the brushes that I use... and LOVE:

See that big fat brush on the very end? Yep, that's your blush brush! :) One of the things that I absolutely love about these brushes is 1. The handles are made of bamboo (yay for being eco-friendly and pretty at the same time!) and 2. I've never had one of the brush bristles come out. You can order these offline from EcoTools.com or Ulta carries them as well.

Eye Shadow: (If you do wear eye-liner, make sure that you apply it before your eye shadow so that everything blends better). Have fun in your new found joy of pretty summer pastels!

Annnnnd.........with the perfect lip color, you will be set! Just have fun with it, and don't go too dark on the color-- it won't compliment your new look as well. ;)

A Twist on Things [Day #4]

We all have our favorite colors. Oftentimes you're color reflects you're personality. For instance, my very energetic brothers favorite color is neon yellow, and my shy friends favorite is gray. Get the picture? My favorite is often a mix between allot of different colors. I'd say blue is my favorite, but I find myself wearing purple quite often. I realized I wear quite a bit of purple, without even realizing it. :P Yet, this post wasn't created for me to babble about favorite colors. But to inform you that you can use the colors that looks good on you, or you're favorite colors [Or both!] to you're advantage.

The twist today is this: An outfit with all different shades of purple. I paired a purple skirt with grey stripes with a light cotton black spaghetti strap shirt. This shirt is a life saver. It is multi faceted, thus I can wear this shirt with black, green, or purple. To add the finishing touches to this hipster outfit, I put a purple headband on, purple sparkly shoes and some retro style glasses. I really think it ended up working. All the different colors of purple kind of pulled together by adding the extra pieces.

Now you go find you're favorite color and use it to twist you're outfits up!

Floral Hair Pieces

Which really got me thinking about how much I adore wearing flowers in the hair. Thanks to shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl, floral headgear has really made a comeback in the past few years.

Growing up in Hawaii I'm definitely a huge fan of this trend. I naturally gravitate to putting real flora in my hair! Just the other day, I shocked my co-workers by showing up with a flower behind my ear. Everyone thought it was fake at first, and were shocked when they learned that my lovely gardenia was actually picked right from my backyard!

For me, wearing flowers in your hair isn't just a fashionable thing to do, how you wear it has significance. If you're single you are supposed to wear your flower above your right ear, but if you're taken you need to wear it on the left (because it's above your heart).

A Twist on Things [Day #3]

Sewing days are especially fun when you make something spectacular out of random scraps of fabric. A Twist on Things day #3 will be able to attest to this. Out of extra fabric scraps and a thin piece of elastic I was able to create a lightweight, sparkly scarf. ;) It was definitely a piece I've been *wanting* to wear, but just couldn't find an outfit that it fit with. But, have no fear...because today I overcame that thought. I paired this fun, glittery scarf with equally glittery oxfords and a brown bubble dress. Finishing it off with a brown vintage belt with a gold buckle. These oxfords have been my recent love. I've always loved the oxford look, but never felt as if I could fit the style quite right. After finding these at DSW, there was no...and I mean..NO reason I shouldn't get them. [Aside from the fact that they cost me an arm and a leg.] ;) They have definitely been worth it though, and I believe they will be equally helpful as they are now throughout the fall.

The twist today is basically the centerpiece of the outfit: the scarf. What was once a normal, cute dress -- just became a statement. I even think that the Man Repeller would be proud of me. O.o

Muses de la Mode: Suzy Parker

Not to be outdone by her sister, Dorian Leigh, Suzy Parker is considered by many to be the world's first super model. She was the first model to ever make more that $100,000 a year. Though she already had an agency and had already appeared in a national Revlon campaign, Suzy is famous for making her debut with Ford Modeling Agency because Dorian would only sign with the agency if they also took on Suzy without ever having seen her. Expecting her to be petite and fair with dark features like Dorian, Eileen and Jerry Ford were shocked when they first met the tall redhead. Suzy Parker is also the only fashion model to have a Beatles song written about her.

A Twist on Things [Day #2]

Today I felt as if I should try the whole Cropped shirt and high waisted shorts look that we talked about last week. I paired a crop sweater/shirt with some high waisted shorts. Let me tell you a little story about these shorts, I brought these shorts at a consignment store that had some vintage pieces in the back. I found these shorts and thought about them for a few minutes before I made the choice of getting them. The price tag kind of coaxed me into it. I mean, how can you pass up shorts for $2.00? I know I definitely couldn't. So the twist is mainly the fact that I wore a cropped top with high waisted shorts. Because even though I don't consider it a big deal, oftentimes others do. ;)

Here's to twisting things up, and cropped shirts. ;)

Taking a Twist on Things [Day #1]

        Oftentimes everyday life can get mushy, it gets tedious, tiring and you find yourself doing the "Same old, same old." This happens throughout the year, but in summer -- the apathy just seems to creep in. Not only do we seem to encounter a new layer of apathy, we seem to get lousy at the tasks at hand. We don't just simply have a lack of interest, oftentimes we pick up a lack of willingness to work at things, get things done, etc.

        This predicament has leaked into fashion a bit. Where I live, everyone is often tempted to wear a tank and shorts everyday, because of the heat. [Not saying I don't do this..] But I was simply experimenting with ideas of how to make summer outfits interesting and fun. Not always sticking with shorts and a tank, or for nicer occasions: a tank and a skirt. But instead, looking for different options. Looking through creative eyes. Instead of going with the flow and picking "easy" summer outfits, try taking a twist on things. I've been trying this recently...well...honestly, my life is a whole journey of taking twists on things. ;) But putting that aside, it's pivotal for wana-be fashion icons [Such as you and I] to always be coming up with new fashion ideas and to tune into our creative fashion side. Yes, even throughout the hot, slow and dreary summer.

        So this week I will be Practicing what I Preach [as some people put it]. I will post every day this week on a fun and quirky outfit, these outfits will indeed, be taking a twist on things.

       Having explained myself, lets hop right into Day #1's Twist. I found this adorable jumper/dress type thing while thrift store shopping with the Touche De Mode girls. It is most definitely vintage [60's-70's] and quite the eye catcher. As soon as I saw it I knew I'd get it, but some of the girls were a little skeptical of it [As is wise..;)] So, I tried it on, and was able to prove to them, that was indeed a great catch. [Can I add that it was only a couple bucks?] It was definitely a good decision. I tried working with it for a bit, seeing what styles I should try with it, what "Twists" I could afford to pull off. I ended up pairing it with gladiator sandals and a vintage white belt with a gold buckle. I got hooked as soon as I tried this look, I absolutely loved it, I must admit. ;) And I hope you do too. :)

Yes, if anyone knows me, they know that there's got to be a couple quirky pictures mixed in with the normal ones. As I continue to take risks and twists, I'd adamantly suggest you to do the same this week.

Cannes Fashion 2011

The Cannes Film Festival last month was a goldmine of all things gorgeous and magnificent!

Here are a few of my favorite looks.

Fan Bingbing-- I love the ombre effect in her gown. The deep color also offsets her lovely compexion.

Fan Bingbing-- The red is also a wonderful color for her skin tone and really sets off her dark hair and eyes. I love how she incorporated traditional Oriental color and symbolism into the design.

Karolina Kurkova-- As expected of a Victoria's Secret Angel, Karolina is absolutely fetching. The low cut back, midnight blue, and upswept hair create a look of sultry, Old Hollywood glamour.

Frederique Bel-- the French actress looked every bit the French belle in this lovely red number with matching shoes.

Aishwarya Rai-- the "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" did not fail to disappoint in this two-tone, modern silhouetted gown.

Bar Rafaeli-- this Israeli beauty literally shone in this metallic feathered dress.

Diane Kruger-- was every bit Helen of Troy (the most beautiful woman in the world) at Cannes. This simple gown allowed her perfect figure and features to show through = majestic.

Emily Browning-- looked absolutely adorable in this sweet lace dress. This, ladies, is lace done right. The lovely champagne color also show off her flawless, creamy skin.

Gianna Jun-- was as pretty as a princess in this precious pink piece. [try saying that five times fast ;) ]

Gwen Stefani-- Gwen, Gwen, Gwen, how do you always look so fabulous?!

Clemence Poesy-- every bit the French country cutie. Can't you just picture her stepping out of a toile print!

Emily Browning-- strikes again with this super cute green patterned frock and amazing nude platforms.

Mia Wasikowska-- just look at that gorgeous neck...

Jessica Chastain-- yellow is not an easy color to pull off. Jessica not only got by, her yellow frock paired with her lovely red hair and lips catapulted her to the top of the Cannes Most Fashionable list!

Julia Saner-- her dress is so ridiculously amazing that she gets tree pictures!

OMGsh! Absolutely breathtaking...

Karolina Kurkova-- the dress! the shoes!!!

Kirsten Dunst-- I am officially in love with this dress. It's so flirty and feminine, light and airy, chic and sophisticated, classic and fashion forward...

Kirsten Dunst-- this goldenrod color is lovely with her complexion. It really shows how rosy her skin is. I want her shoes!

Lea Seydoux-- pretty in pink. I love the smocking, skirt, and black accent belt. A dropped waist and tea length hem is hard for a lot of women to pull off, but it looks great on her and is really flattering to her figure.

Michelle Rodriguez-- this girl can really clean up nicely. I always love to see Michelle all dolled up-- especially in such a fashion forward outfit.

Zoe Saldana-- is also wearing one of my fashion loves... it's just so beautiful... [sigh...]

Amy Adams-- first of all, I just have to commend my girl for wearing some 'hose! OMGsh, I think she's worthy of the list just for that... In addition she has some really awesome sleeves and a great structure to her dress.

Salma Hayek-- can she ever make a wrong fashion step? I love the millions of layers of chiffon and the gorgeous beading.

Sonam Kapoor-- I love a fashion risk taker. Sonam's gamble certainly paid off. She looked incredible in this mod tribute to Old Hollywood glamour.

Uma Thurman-- put anything that bold and figure hugging on someone as statuesque as Uma Thurman and you're sure to have a knockout. Just goes to show that you don't need to show a lot of skin to be a bombshell.

Uma Thurman-- another lace number that I'm loving. Again, the high neckline shows that showing skin is not necessary to be attractive.

Ziyi Zhang- I love how this sweet and simple gown shows of this sweet and simple girl. The Portrait neckline puts her delicate color bone at advantage, the ruched waist shows off her figure, and peachy cream color goes well with her dark hair and eyes. The red lipstick completes the look.

Muses de la Mode: Dorian Leigh

The first great fashion model and muse herself, Dorian Leigh! She made her international debut on the cover of a 1944 issue of Harpers Bazaar at the age of 27. The famously told Eileen Ford that would only sign with Ford Modeling Agency if they would also sign her sister, Suzy Parker, sight unseen. (Of course, Ford accepted, and luckily so, seeing as the sisters are now icons of the golden age of fashion!) At only 5'5" tall and twenty-seven years old, Dorian's assent to fashion royalty proved that a girl didn't need height or youth to be beautiful. With five marriages under her belt, she is also thought to be the inspiration for Truman Capote's Holly Golightly.

Summer Inspiration

My summer inspiration seems to come from variant fashion tastes, times in history, and random eclectic different places.

My summer clothing picks and accessories must be extremely cool, because of the area that I live in. Cute summer sweaters are not going to fly here. Thus I must adjust my fashion a bit in order to keep cool. ;) So here's to staying cool, and looking cute at the same time:

--Cropped Tops & High waisted Shorts/Skirts--
[Not only is this look adorable, it is cool and kinda an 80's-meets-cute look]

adorable right? I'm pretty excited about this fashion trend.

I have also been diggin' some hippy style myself. For instance:

--Feather Heads--
These are incredibly fun, spunky and adorable.

You can get a variety of different colors, and on the bright side: it's very artsy looking. I really do love this trend and believe it's a whole new creative way of expressing our style..through feathers! Yep, it's pretty incredible.

--French Braids--

If you are like me, then even a little bit of french braiding is tuff business. But let's assume you are skilled and can French Braid. ;) If you can, it is quite nice for the summer. Not only can it help you get you're bangs out of the face and you're hair off you're neck...it is quite the bohemian look. With longer hair, or shorter hair, it's a cute makeshift summer do - for sure.

--Rompers--

Rompers, such an interesting name. I swear it took me a whole year to remember that name. Anyways, Rompers are pretty much perfect for Summer. If you slip it over a swimsuit, or pair it with a scarf, Rompers are cute and it's fairly simple to create a cute outfit with one of these things. ;) Watch and learn:

The good thing about Rompers is that they work for almost anyone. Most body shapes can pull them off. It's quite a cute idea. Isn't it?

One of my favorite parts of Spring is seeing all the beautiful wildflowers come to life and paint the landscape with their mellow and vibrant hues. Top Knots

Often when one hears the word "Top Knots" they instantly think of a top hat. Or they could think of a top hat with a knot on top. Or just a rope on top of a tree. Or...oh, never mind. The bottom line is the world isn't quite accustomed to the Top Knot, as a style feature. It hasn't been an actual "Item" until recently. Now everyone's longing to have their hair long enough to try a Top Knot. ;)I thought and thought about Top Knots, and why they have become a hit. It was then when I realized that Top Knots were indeed a fashion statement. A pretty awesome one, at that. Everyone has different opinions of Top Knots. But I hope today, to persuade you that Top Knots are not only awkward, they can be geeky, chic, hott and just plain adorable. :)

Lets start out with the typical, awkward and ugly Top Knots:

Well first things first, please don't purposefully try and make it look like you have a plate of meatballs sitting on top of your head. Tyra Banks gives us a great example of how NOT to wear a Top Knot. No meat heads, please.

And if you have larger ears [I'm not hatin, I'm jus sayin] or your ears naturally are farther out than normal, please don't slick your hair back, or else it will just attract unneeded attention to them. JLo ended up making her head look strange and her ears look elf-like, with her Top Knot. Where she went wrong: She slicked back the front of her hair. If you indeed have that type of face, please add volume, keep bangs down, or add poof. Whoops, JLo strikes AGAIN. ;)

On the last ugly note, I want to encourage you not to purposefully make your hair look like a Sumo Wrestlers. Please, just...don't.

I think we've learned that Top Knots can be pretty, terrible. Yet, don't worry...Top Knots can also be pretty sexy at times. If you are Vanessa anne Hudgens. One of HSM's biggest star's knows how to own the Top Knot. That's what I'm talkin' about!

Shenae Grimes not only has amaaaazing top knots, her style is awesome! She rocks her Top Knots.

Now let's go the "Cute and Geeky" route. If you have thick bangs, this look will work pretty well for you.

Or, if you're Sydney from the Daybook! [Can I just say, I love this lady. Her style=incredible]

Alright, well I think my work here is done. If you got lost somewhere along the way, I was trying to persuade you that Top Knots can be the best fashion statement anyone has ever made. It's 'Awkward and Awesome!' [As Sydney would say] ;) And i've been trying it out a bit myself, check it out.

The Royal Wedding

Friday morning I woke up quite early, along with a third of the world. To watch, the one and only: Royal Wedding. There were so many incredible aspects of the royal wedding that I wish to share with you. Yet, this post will merely stick to fashion. Ah, Britain's Fashion, its exquisite! It was such a fun experience for me to see. If you'd like to hear a little more about my whole experience, you can do so by going here.

Kate has inspired a whole new sense of fashion for us as Americans. She is truly a fashion icon, and will be for many years to come. Specifically her style in regards to hats. We saw many during her engagement, and were enthralled with them. For the wedding, it was very important for the attendee's to wear appropriate and fashionable hats. Such is not only a custom there, it's a fashion statement. That being said, let me share with you Jane's favorite's out of the bunch.

-- Delightful Hats --

1. Carole Middleton
Kate's mother, picked a wonderful outfit. It was flattering, but not too flashy. Her hat was gorgeous. Her makeup was simple and not over the top, but still showed her beauty. Her accessories were simple but elegant. Perfect look for a mother of the bride.

2. Miriam González Durántez
She certainly did make a statement. There are different views regarding this outfit and hat. But my personal view is that it is incredibly elegant, but a bit flashy and loud at the same time. Think what you will about Mariam's outfit. But I believe it was a hit.

3. Lady Frederick Windsor
Her blue was fabulous. Her dress was fitted well and her hat was MARVELOUS.

4. Princess Letizia of Spain
She was so tiny, you might of missed her. But if you did, you missed the most adorable little fashionista you've ever seen! Her hat was wonderful. And the color, ah. Such a beautiful pink, and went great with her complexion. She was one of my favorites.

5. Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece
Her color was also gorgeous. A light silvery blue, it was fabulous. The flower arrangement on the hat was quite charming.

6. Victoria And David Beckham
This was a pleasant surprise for me. For the wedding, Victoria looked like a different person. She did a great job in not standing out. And the hat was a fit. Her hair was just right for the event and makeup. She did great, this time. ;) And David, looked amazing. The coat, the tie and the top hat..they were all just adorable. Even though, you are not supposed to wear your own awards to a wedding and are supposed to wear it on the left when you do. Oh well, I guess that's what you get for living in America. Lowering standards, elevating self. ;) Overall they were a lovely couple.

There were so many others, but the last ones that stood out to me the most were these gorgeous girls. After a long search of trying to find their names I simply gave up. But I still wanted to credit them, because they looked incredible.

Also, can we all give credit to Pippa Middleton? She was the best bridesmaid..ever. Hands-down.

Now that we've seen a couple that I love, let's look at a few misses.

-- Not-so-Delightful Hats --

1. Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice
If you haven't seen pictures of the royal wedding yet, or had time to watch it..i'm sure you heard about these girls hats. Because it's ALL over the news! Especially Eugenie's. For..not so good reasons. They looked...very interesting. The first thought that came through my mind as they arrived was "Evil step-sisters much?" they didn't bring off a good vibe, at all. They kind of seemed to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Even though Eugenie's outfit wasn't necessarily..too bad. [It was just bland] The hat completely distracted from it. Also, Beatrice's outfit wasn't elegant in the least. And didn't help her figure. Sadly enough, this isn't the first time they have worn such horrendous hats. Eugenie and Beatrice strike out AGAIN.

2. Tara Parker Tomkinson
This was a bit interesting. Her hat reminded me of a boat, and the blue was almost unbearable. Blue, if done right is fine. But this bright blue, for every single part of your outfit just doesn't work. But, Tara wasn't just the one who missed..her friend, or whoever was with her made me seriously laugh..loud. Peacock feathers, thats fine. But it looked as if a whole peacock came and sat upon her head. And then another animal was on her shoulders. Come on, PETA would NOT be proud! A little too much for a vegetarian like me to be able to handle. ;)

Overall the experience of simply seeing the wedding was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I admit, I am SUCH a girl.

How-To: Re-draft or Create a Pattern

All of this girls at Touche de Mode are avid crafters, seamstresses, and general DIY-ers. As a seamstress, one of the most common problems that I run into is finding a pattern that is just how I want my garment to be. I almost always have to change something about it to create the piece that I see in my head. Oftentimes, I make these changes by basting the seams and pinch-and-pin-ing the garment to how I want it before sewing the final seams. However, this method is generally more time consuming, less accurate, and harder work. Thus, I think it is preferable to start with a perfect pattern.

However, it is sometimes nearly impossible to find a pre-made pattern to your liking, or you simply do not want to spend the money to buy a new pattern. This is when re-drafting and creating your own pattern comes in handy. Re-drafting is not as intimidating as it sounds, and needn't be expensive. Chances are that you probably already have all the material and brain power you need!

Materials

To re-draft/create your own pattern you will need:

-Waxed paper or parchment paper (this is an inexpensive alternative to tracing paper)

-Pencil
-Permanent marker

-Scissors

-Ruler and/or measuring tape

-Existing pattern(s) to be redrafted or combined

Instructions

Step 1: Figure out your design

The first thing you need to do I figure out what you're trying to create. I usually have a picture in my mind of what I want, and that is usually enough to guide the re-drafting process. Sometimes it is useful to sketch out what you want.

Step 2: Search your patterns

With your design in mind, look through your existing patterns to see which ones have elements that you need to make your design. For example, you may like the bodice of a dress pattern, the neckline of another dress pattern, and the cut of a different skirt pattern. Think about why you like those patterns (the darts, the shape, etc) and think about how you can combine those elements taking into account the features of the other pieces. You need to figure out how to synthesize the good points and minimize the bad points of the patterns.

Step 3: Find and align reference points

Once you know how you want to combine the patterns, you need to find reference points on the patterns to make sure that your finished piece is proportionate. Determine if your patterns already give seam allowance. Does one pattern give 1/2" seam allowance, another give 5/8", and another give no seam allowance? Plan accordingly. Find the waistline, center front/back, and other reference points effecting the areas being modified. For example, if you want to attach a different skirt to a dress, match up both patterns at the waistline, center front/back, and where any hardware will be inserted.

Step 4: Trace new pattern

One of the benefits of using waxed paper or parchment paper as opposed to tracing paper is that you can make it at large or as small as you want. Tape together waxed paper to be the size needed. With the pencil, trace the aligned patterns on the waxed paper. Using a ruler, or pattern eights can be very useful.

Step 5: Check measurements and retrace
Once you've traced your new pattern preliminarily, check to make sure that the measurements are correct. You don't want to cut and sew your new garment to realize that you made the waist six inches too small! If necessary adjust your pattern to the correct measurements. Retrace with the permanent marker.

Step 6: Transfer markings and label pattern pieces

Before lifting the new pattern, don't forget to transfer the markings. Darts (existing or new), notches, zipper markings, waistline, grain line, and special seam lines are each extremely important in making your pattern all that it should be. In the excitement of the the moment it is also easy to neglect marking your pieces. This only leads to confusion later, either when you use the pattern or store it and forget what pattern it is. I usually write what pattern it is a part of, the number of the piece, the name of the piece, how many cuts of the piece are needed, if lining is needed, if interfacing is needed

Step 7: Cut out and store your new pattern

Congratualtions! Cut out your new pattern! If I am not using the pattern right away I fold and put all the pieces in a sheet protector in a special binder that I have for patterns. With it I also put any sketches I have of the pattern, a brief description, and (once I've used the pattern) a picture of the completed project.

This technique is super versatile. You can use it to salvage vintage patterns, create copies of patterns, experiment with different combinations, and (once you're comfortable) draft original patterns from scratch!This has been such a help to my sewing ventures that I keep a box of waxed paper and a permanent marker in my sewing table!

Spring Fashion Trends

Spring has arrived and the question has arisen: "What shall I wear this spring?" What IS in style regarding Spring Fling Fashioning? Have no fear, I am about to reveal to you the most adorable style trends and fashionable pieces that are paramount for the beginning of the spring.

1. Let's start out with my favorite -- TURBANS! :) You'll probably thinking..."Waiiit, these are in style now!?" I will assure you that it's probably not the "Turban" your thinking of. It's the fashion Turban. Audrey Hepburn, Liz Taylor, and all the fashion stars wore them. They are fun, you can wear them with your hair up or down, and there great for bad hair days or busy days. ;) Turbans are so fun, and thankfully they are currently in style once again!

2. Leg warmers! They are undoubtedly incredible! I wear leg warmers often, because they are fun and easy. It really depends on where you live, if you can wear leg warmers in the spring. If you live in Tx, its better to stick with leg warmers for the winter. But other more chilly spring environments, they work perfectly. They are a fashion statement, obviously. But, a very fun one at that! ;) WARNING: There is a RIGHT way and a WRONG way to wear leg warmers.

3. Printed Tights. These are so fun, and in fashion! Your own personality easily can be displayed through your tights. I love wearing bright tights, and now, theres printed tights! :) So adorable.

4. Bright Cropped Pants. For spring this look works perfectly. Because they are not "Pants" But not "Shorts" which is a nice in between. They often look good on all body types, it depends on the pants. The skinny look is my favorite though. These are easy for making fast outfits. Take a bright pair of pants, pair it with solid shoes and a solid shirt. Or, if your a bit riskier, but a muted floral shirt with it. Theres a ton of ideas that you can use with cropped pants. But overall, it's a quick and easy cute spring outfit idea!

5. Last of all -- Bright and bold lip colors. This is a bit of a riskier spring fashion idea. But the fact of the matter remains: IT'S IN. So don't feel scared when your about to wear bright pink lipstick for the first time to work. But, please...please...use discretion. Bright and Bold doesn't look good on some people. And bright and bold lip's don't go with some outfits. So please, think before you apply. ;) But Beauty High illustrated this concept perfectly.

Catherine's [belated] Commentary on the Oscars

The pinacle of the awards season is the Academy Awards, aka the Oscars. Stars have been prepping the whole year for this event. Let's see who put their best foot forward, and who missed the mark.

Here is my [belated] take on the Oscars Red Carpet... and Awards Show... and After Parties!

Hits

Mila Kunis showed us what it looks like when lace is done well. Not only does her gown exude elegance and romance, the color really goes well with her complexion and hair color. She was wise in pulling her hair up and away from her beautiful face and completing her look with small accent pieces that really made her gown shine. Good job, Mila!

In my eyes, Natalie can hardly ever do wrong fashion wise, but after her Golden Globes bomb, I was so glad to see her looking lovely once again. The beautiful color suits her perfectly and shows off her pregnant glow. The neckline is extremely flattering to her new figure, while keeping everything appropriate to her condition. Her side-swept hair adds a hint of romance, and, like Mila, she wisely kept her accessories to a minimum.

Amy Adams looked gorgeous... 'Nuff said. Her gown was incredible. Her jewels were magnificent. He hair was lovely. Her skin was radiant. Can you get anymore beautiful?!

Wow. Reese looked like a 1950s Barbie doll. I loved her two tone dress, subtle accessories, and simple hair and makeup. Her elegant and understated look really let her natural beauty shine through.

And "Best Dressed Couple" goes to... Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves! I'm not sure so much pretty-ness should be allowed in a single photograph. Matthew played it safe in a classic black tux with white pocket square and looked quite dashing-- reminiscent of Cary Grant, even. But the lady on his arm made him look that much better. I love how Camila chose to wear all black. It really went well with her features and acted like a frame of her beautiful face, hair, and arms. Her decadent, but still simple, chandelier earrings were the perfect baubles to set off her face and sleek updo. Her whole look was about drawing the eye up to her lovely face. It's been a while since I've seen a couple complement each other so well on the red carpet.

Mandy Moore was absolutely stunning on the red carpet. She literall shone. I love the simple lines, whispy organza, and dainty sparkle. Again, all of the elements draw the eye upward. Her classic hair and makeup completed the look.

Celine, Celine, Celine. I'm not sure a forty-two year old woman who just gave birth to twins should be allowed to look that good. Her stunning dress really showed off her figure and her sapphire pendant, soft curls, and simple makeup were very age appropriate. But most of all, she looked confident in the own skin-- now that is attractive.

Another gorgeous lady who showed that age does not determine glamour was Helen Mirren. She was the picture of high class elegance and good taste in her lovely slate gown with shoulder details, classic accessories, and sophisticated hair and makeup. I absolutely loved her rendition of the "grandmother" haircut-- totally not grandma like!

At the other end of the age spectrum was newcomer, Hailee Steinfeld. Not only did she make a great impression on film critics, earning her an Oscar Nomination, she also put her best foot forward on the red carpet. She looks picture perfect in a classic tea length champagne pink gown, sleek updo, and natural makeup. Pay attention teenage girls, this is what an age appropriate, classy, attractive outfit looks like! Way to go, Hailee, for setting a great example and looking amazing while doing so!

After taking a few years off to focus on her daughter, Matilda Rose, Michelle Williams showed that she's still got it! She stuck to minimal glamour with a modest, well-fitted dress, simple accessories, and her signature pixie cut. I love that she's stuck with this short 'do, as it really flaters her face shape and makes he look so sweet and sophisticated. The complete look showed her good taste and propriety.

Ever the risk taker, Cate Blanchett's gamble payed off. She looked spectacular in this Givenchy number. The soft lilac with a pop of bright color suited her complexion perfectly. She accommodated for the unique gown by going with classic hair and makeup. All in all, Cate looked serene, fresh, and vibrant.

I personally loved Giuliana Rancic's gown for the red carpet. It was fun. It was a fun print and color. It was a fun sillhouette. It had fun styling. It was very upbeat and suited her personality. Of all of the non-traditional gowns there, this one was the best.

Another gorgeous couple was Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers. The exuded youth, vivacity, and style. Again, he opted for the classic black tux, while she went with matching black. I cannot tell you how much I like it when couples coordinate at events... Not match-- coordinate. At events-- not necessarily everyday... that's just kinda creepy! Anyway, under the circumstances, they looked great.

Ever since her stint on Dancing With the Stars, Kelly Osbourne has really come into her own. Not only has she become much more health conscious, she seems more secure with herself, and has most certainly established a more stylish look. This outfit showcases her new and improved style. I love the small details to the dress like the ribbon belt, fun shoulders, and small ruffled train that really make the dress different and interesting. Kelly still made the look her own by opting for fun lipstick and a retro inspired hairdo.

Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the most consistently fashionable women in Hollywood. And she did not fail to impress at the Oscars. Her lovely metallic gown had an interesting twist in the form of a unique neckline. I love how her look is always understated and natural with zest.

Yet another dashing couple on the red carpet were, man of the night, Colin Firth and his wife, Livia Giuggioli. They were the picture of elegance and classic glamour. She chose to compliment his classic tux with a lovely creme gown. I absolutely love the vintage styling she chose, from the cut and fabric, to the clutch and understated jewels. A simply lovely couple.

Miranda Cosgrove's excellently assembled outfit for an Oscars after party added to her status as a budding fashion icon. I love her fun and flirty dress with lots of texture and details. She paired it with some amazing heels (I so want some), a cute black clutch, and a pop of pink lipstick.

Call me crazy, but there is something insanely sweet about JT taking his mother to the oscars. I'm sure Mrs. Timberlake was every bit the proud mother as she walked the red carpet with her dashing son. And Justin looked please to be able to show off his mom. But that's besides the point. They both looked charming together. He, of course, wore a great tux, with spiffy shined shoes. And she looked very much like a Hollywood Starlet of old. Props for classiness... and sweet ness too.

Jessica Biel practically glowed in this metallic knit dress. It's so classy and elegant, yet modern. She made sure that all attention was fixed on her face by pulling her hair back and minimally using make up to enhance her features.

Justin and Jessica earned another spot on the list be looking so amazing together at an after party. Truly gorgeous.

On the Fence Looks
Here are some looks that were on the fence for me. They could have been great, but...

Jennifer Hudson has taken some major strides in the past few years. One of the most well known is in the area of personal health. Now I'm not trying to say that weight equals health. This is obviously not true. However her newfound healthy lifestyle has undoubtedly left her with a healthier figure. Thus, I think this gown was a perfect choice to showcase her new svelt physique. The color is great with ther skin tone and for the most part the gown in flattering. However... I cannot approve of the bust area. Now, I understand that there is a time and place for cleavage. But this was just not flattering at all! Not only did it make her top part look like an over stuffed sausage, it made awkward lines on her shoulders and chest area that detracted from the main event-- her face! If the band under her bust had been raised a few inches and the cups of the halter been taken in about an inch or two I think it would have made a world of difference. Kudos to Jennifer to taking big steps toward better health and for being the fashionable and beautiful woman that she is; but I would have liked this look better if the top had not detracted from it.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with Jennifer Lawrence's dress... But that's just it. There's nothing going on with her dress. It's too boring. Now, generally I'm for classic and understated. If you don't believe me all you have to do is read this post over again. However this is just plain. In fact it's too plain to wear to a red carpet event. As pointed out by The Guy in the Orange Socks last week, there needs to be something in your outfit that makes it pop. Nothing gives this look that extra pizzaz-- that touche de mode. Thus, while nothing it wrong with this dress, nothing is right with this look either.

Gorgeous dress, gorgeous shoes, gorgeous hair, gorgeous makeup, gorgeous necklace. So what am I miffed about? Could nobody steam this dress?!?!?!?!?!?! I cannot get over the wrinkled lace! Especially in the abdomen area. Either make sure that you can get the wrinkles out after getting out of the limo, or lie across the backseat on the way to the show! Can no one figure out how to make sure she gets to the show with an unwrinkled dress!

Misses

You know the dress isn't for you when it makes you look like a deranged vampire wannabe. Ok people, I get that vamprism is a craze now-a-days (not that I agree with it, or understand the attraction), but it has no place on the red carpet. This is not a costume party. Oh, and Sharon Stone, you are a person... not a vampire... sorry to break the news to you. But seriously, everything is just wrong with this look, from the color (which totally washes her out and doesn't go with her coloring), to the hairstyle (can you say Snooki meets Real Housewives of New York), to the random fabric and feathers eating her shoulder (what is that supposed to be anyway?)! This is just a hot mess.

Virginia Madsen,
Miss Piggy called. She was looking for her nasty, ratted out feather boa. Then she saw your dress...

Can you say prom bomb. Everything about this dress from the cheap looking satin, the ill fitting corset top, the unflattering asymmetrical skirt, and the layers of Made in China nylon netting scream Homecoming Queen... well, maybe not queen.

I like Scarlett Johansson, she's a lovely lady. However I must object to this ensemble. Obviously she didn't get to memo about tacky lace. Not only is the lace itself tacky, but it's two-toned in the most unflattering way! Why on earth is there a light pouch of lace right at the point on the stomach were most of us have an extra pouch?!?! Whether or not Scarlett has one, this creates the optical illusion that she does have a very pronounced one. Any dress that makes you look like you have lumps and bumps that you don't is not a good dress.

If the red carpet was reduced to headshots, Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, would be hot stuff. However, that is not how it works... On the red carpet, a couple is not just the sum of its parts. It's synthesis. In this case, not even Hugh's dashing good looks are able to make up for the random white stuff coming out of Deborra's... err... shawl?

Bad lace, tacky tulle, and horrific colors strike again in the form of Florence Welch's attire and hair.

Will someone please prohibit Russell Brand from walking the red carpet (as I have yet to see him wear something appropriate), dying his hair, and slouching.

Remember those random ballroom dancing classes your school held right before prom? Hollywood should hold posture classes before red carpet events. Remember, fashion is all about presentation. You could put some people in Givenchy and not see the difference. You could put other people in paper bags and think they were the most fashionable people you'd ever seen.

After seeing Hilary Swank in this... thing, Miss Piggy issued an official statement asking all Hollywood stylists to stop raiding her closet for her ratty old feather boas.

Oh, Nicole. Why did you pick such an unflattering cut? Why did you pick such random embellishments? Why do you have two locks of hair in your face? Why is your makeup so washed out? Why, oh why, did you pick this outfit?

You know there's a problem when the fourteen year old daughter in a micro mini dress is more covered up than the fifty-two year old mother. 'Nuff said.

The Many Uses of {TULLE}

Tulle is magical. It can be used for all sorts of purposes [yes indeed]. If you merely think outside the original box you'll find that tulle is..simply put: AMAZING.

Let's review the whole concept of tulle. Well, if you're not familiar with tulle - it is a sheer type of fabric that is often used as a ribbon/bow. But, the cool thing about that, is that it doesn't have to be a simple bow that you tie over a wrapped gift, you can use it as a hair accessory - like I do often. This adorable tulle flower hair bow is easy to make and cuuuuute. :)

But Tulle isn't limited to one cute accessories. NO WAY. It also can be made into an adorable headband. Like this girl did:

I found out the other day that Tulle can also be used as a make-shift belt [I swear]

Tulle can also be used as embellishments on shirts or some pieces of clothing.

Of course, we cannot forget the ultimate Tulle skirts. Tulle skirts are easy to make and are very FUN to make. [Making another Tulle skirt is on my to-do list..just so you know. ;)]

But please don't assume that Tulle is only good for clothing accessories. Tulle is a great decorating tool. [See what I just did there] ;) I have around two big pink tulle bows in my room just on my wall or tied onto something. Then I threw a bunch of Tulle scraps into a vase. Tulle is once again -- AMAZING. Please, PLEASE, go buy some tulle. Come up with creative uses for it. And blog about it.

How To Wear Lace With Grace

Lace, lace, lace! Everywhere I go, I'm seeing lace. Little girls, middle-aged women, and of course teenage girls are in love with lace cutouts, embellishments and even sheer tops. I am not immune to the ladylike loveliness of lace--however, I am very particular about which lace I choose to buy and wear-- and you should be too!

I think there are two types of lace in particular to steer clear of: cheap machine lace, and your grandmother's lace. I've seen both types in excess this season, and though both are painful to observe, cheap machine lace is the greater of the two evils.

When you find something you like that has lace, look at it from many different angles, as lighting can be very revealing as to the quality. If the lace is "shiny" or gleams from any direction or distance, no matter how in love you are with the piece... move on. It's tacky to wear something shiny, dull, or wrinkled if it isn’t supposed to be. Wearing shiny lace should be just as avoided as wearing wrinkled slacks or dull pearls. One of the quickest ways to identify if you are, indeed, looking at cheap lace, is to look at the fiber content. If the lace is made from nylon, acrylic, polyester, or a blend of the aforementioned it is probably not one that you should be looking at. If the material looks cheap, the thread is unraveling anywhere, or the lace makes the garment look as inexpensive as it most likely is, don't waste your time on it.

There is no excuse for grandma lace, either, though. When it looks like Charlotte the spider got crafty on the back of your top, you should fling it from thy presence! Don't get me wrong- old-fashioned lace can be very pretty. But when the lace crosses the line from frilly to frumpy, it should be passed over in the store. There's a fine line between sweet and sour, but with a trained eye, you'll be spotting and wearing the best lace around!

Now that the wrong types of lace have been identified, let's talk about the right lace! Lace is a great way to make a more severe ensemble soft, or to add sweet, feminine detail to a simple outfit.

Find a lace top, dress or skirt that is as lovely as you are. Remember, what you wear says something about who you are. Wear a garment worthy of yourself, one that says that you are not cheap, not tacky and not dated. You are a classic, fashion-conscious woman with taste, and when you dress like it, people will notice how put together you are!

My take on the Oscars

Every person has a different take on the Oscars. Who deserved an Oscar? who's dress was prettiest? Which host was the absolute best?

These opinions are your own to keep. But, here at touche de mode we do some assessments. Analyzing who's dresses were best fitted, color toned correctly and the like. That being said here is...

Jane's take on fashion at the Oscars

Let's first take the wonderful hostess of the night: Who, but Anne Hathaway! :)
In my opinion she was a hilarious hostess, keeping things interesting. Even though, there were some awkward moments. "It's a great year for Lesbians"...but aside from that, she not only preformed beautifully, for the most part, she dressed magnificently.

For example, lets take the first dress she appeared in. The Vintage Valentino was a perfect combination, and very pretty. A few minor issues I had with this dress is the fitting on her bust, not only was it pretty low, but it just didn't compliment her upper body. Aside from that, the color was gorgeous, the dress itself was beautiful, and I was impressed. :)

Now let's view all the other amazing and not-so-amazing changes she had. First starting out with her white look. This one of of my very favorites. It fit her well and she wore it with elegance. Need I say more? Now the blue "plasticy" one in the middle was a toss-up. It really depends on if you like this look. But if we look at the aspects of it, we see the fit was nice, the color was complimentary on her, and it was fitting. But, like I said, it depends on if you like that style. The one on the far right is what made me want to call her a Duck. I believed she did indeed, look like a duck. The whole feathered look, the hair, the necklace. This one didn't fly for me. It made me think teen prom-meets-duck-meets-moose-meets-tree. :P

For her serenade [More like hate song] to Hugh Jackman, she wore a suit. This suit had it's perks. For instance the TO DIE FOR, beautiful shoes she donned, with her gorgeous button. The downsides to the suit -- her jacket seemed a bit long. And the bow-tie: The founders of Touche de mode came to a conclusion. Bow-ties on girls just aren't ok. On guys? Of course! But girls...no. So, the bow-tie wasn't a go for me. The middle dress - the maroon one, was one of my favorites! :) I completely loved this. The color, her hair, the fit. Every element of that dress was beautiful. The black bedazzled dress to the right was a disaster. The cut, no. The undertone, no. The hair, no. It was just a nasty dress. I liked the jewels, but how it was constructed was just...not alright. ;)

The very last dress that we cannot forget about, is the sparkly, fringe, gold dress. This one, was adorable. And you could tell, she loved it too. ;) Everything about this dress was good in my opinion.

Anne Hathaway did a good job in my opinion. But luckily enough, she wasn't the only one. Some of my other favorites were: Cate Blanchett, Hailee Steinfeld, Natalie Portman and Amy Adams. Lets take a look at my first 3 favorites.

Cate Blanchett's dress was unique. It wasn't like anyone Else's, it has it's own personality. It had mixed colors, it was different. I respect that. I really do love the shell-like beading and the whole build of the dress. I thought it was very pretty. But, it all depends on your perspective. Many people, including some Touche De Mode girls don't agree on this dress. But, my personal opinion is that, it's AWESOME.

If you haven't seen the infamous True Grit, then you might not be familiar of this face. The face of the first 14 year old to be nominated for best supporting actress. The adorable: Hailee Steinfeld. Her fashion taste is impeccable. Not only is it flattering, but she seems to always dress in a very age-appropriate way. I admire that. I loved how she pulled off this vintage look quite beautifully.

Now to Natalie Portman. Well, I'd never thought I'd see the day where I'd praise Natalie Portman's Fashion taste. She's had some..pretty awful tournouts. [The SAG awards? GAG-GAG.]But her dress for the Oscars was very well done.

Now for the hate. The dresses I absolutely despised were Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon,and lots of others.

First and foremost the one and only Jennifer Hudson!Her dress was a train wreck. I can't talk long about this dress, because it makes me shudder convulsively. Yes, I am indeed adding a picture for your own amusement. I want to warn you beforehand, you might have nightmares about orange blobs and deformed looking bust's. Her hair, the back of the dress, everything just makes me stomach feel unpleasant.

You would at least think the would pick good shoes right? Not. She decided to bank her luck on clunky purple [YES PURPLE] platform shoes. *Gasping for air*

Sadly enough, it doesn't stop there. Reese Witherspoon had to sport her Barbie-blonde cliche look also. This disappointed me. She normally has such good fashion picks. But this time...she let me down. What was up with that hair? First thing I thought was clip on hair pony tail much? It looks like the cheapy kind you get at the grocery store and clip to your hair. It wasn't classy. And the dress, looked like a bridesmaid dress you can find at the resale store, or better yet...davids bridal [Nasty]. And her jewelry...seriously...green? Now your the green fake haired blonde? Oh, that's even better.

But, lets not end on a sour note. Seeing all of the outfits, I'd say there was some beautiful dresses. I enjoyed admiring most of them, the Oscars is always a fun time. You don't have to agree with my views, because they are - my own. But I hope you still enjoyed Jane's take on the Oscars. :)

My very last favorite was Livia Firth's outfit. The Firth's are one classy Couple.

Essentiels de la Mode: Nifty Necklines

The ultimate purpose of fashion is the enhance you. Thus, in my opinion, the ultimate objective of an outfit is to draw attention to the face. One of the most influential facets of an outfit that determines where the eye falls is the neckline. Many people struggle with finding a neckline that is stylish, flattering to their body type, and still draws attention to the face-- and not other... assets.

Knowing how to work different necklines is essential to being a fashionable woman. Play around, have fun, and find your favorite nifty neckline!

Here's a quick guide to some common nifty necklines.

Crew Neck
These tend to be most commonly found on basic t-shirts...

However, they can be quite classy as well...

V-Neck
These are flatering on most body types and can range from subtle...

to more pronounced...

Boat Neck
This classic neckline has been a staple numerous icons from Audrey Hepburn to Jackie O!

Square
A modest square neckline can be great for diminishing a large bust.

Scoop
Like square necklines, scoop necks can also be great for breaking up the chest/neck area and draw attention up to the face.

Sweetheart
These are complimentary to most body types. The shape helps to accentuate smaller figures, and it also helps to give form and lift to larger ones.

Elizabethan
This neckline really acts like a picture frame. The gorgeous unique lines, draw the eyes upwards to the décolletage, neck, and face.

Halter
There are a million and one styles of halters. They are fun for spring and summer and there's sure to be one that suits you.

Bandeau
French for "band" or "strip [of cloth]," bandeau's are just that. As such they are generally extremely comfortable, but do not necessarily provide too much support. They're great for Spring and Summer when less constricting and lighter clothing is preferable.

Portrait
Here's another neckline perfectly designed to frame the face. So much so that it's named for this ability.

Keyhole
This fun neckline is great for risk takers and those who love to have a good time. It can be made to flatter any figure.

Off-the-Shoulder
This neckline is so amazing that it has literally been around for centuries!

Cowl
Great for the cold months, cowl necks offer extra warmth and style.

Collared
With so many different collars, the possibilities are endless...

Gathered
Gathers can make anything look bigger or smaller, depending on how they're draped.

The Guy in the Orange Socks: A Male Perspecitve

This is a piece of advice that I personally have taken to heart, and that I believe every person should follow.

The way to look fashionable is not to heap a ton of loud, colorful pieces together. It is to pick that one little piece that sets you apart from the pack. For ladies, it could be your shoes, your jewelry, your stockings, or your blouse, but every time you get dressed there should be on piece that says, “Wow!”

When picking that one piece, you always have to be careful to make sure that it syncs with what you’re wearing. When wearing relatively plain business attire, spruce it up with a vibrant pair of red pointy-toed high heels. If you find yourself in jeans and a T-shirt, put on that pink scarf.

Style is not about dutifully sticking to the rules; it is about being fashionable. The best dressed women of today are the ones who understand that looking good means wearing something that makes a statement.
