Hey Dolls… finally a new food update, sorry it has taken so long. Since my surgery it is very hard to get motivated to try someplace new because of how little I can eat. But My bubz was hankering for a gyro. We were driving down MacArthur and we spotted this little whole in the wall. Does not look like much from the outside… BUT … you are greeted with welcoming smiles and friendly home like atmosphere. Maurice was our main guy, not five minutes after walking in he turns on the air conditioner for me. Then he brings the television remote to our table and says “watch whatever you want” …

Then the food comes and says more than once if you don’t like it I will make you something different (they were out of chicken which is what I wanted). But the portions were large. We easily turned 1 meal into 3. They DO NOT accept credit or debit cards which was inconvenient but handled gracefully.

What the hell is wrong with people

Hey Dolls so I woke up and walked out of my house to go to work and realized my car had been stolen. Luckily the cops found it relatively quick however the steering column got busted and both side windows broken out. So after like 2 hours of calling around I called Safelight and they are going to replace my windows for $330. NOW being Friday and payday after my windows, rent, correcting my bank account, storage, and NOW tires I am going to be in the Negative amount $$$$. YAY !?! I mentioned my tires, spoke to my boyfriend today and he said both my front tires are balding and he can see metal and frays already. WTF is next...

*** I dont know who out there reads my blog or who cares for that matter and I know it can seem tacky but I really need some help anyone out there that can help in anyway I sincerely appreciate it ***

Weightloss Journey part 7

Not for long

Hey Dolls I know it has been forever since I updated since the surgery… Surgery date was Tuesday 5/31 I was in the hospital until that Friday. First of all the pain sucked but it wasn’t as scary as I thought it was gunna be, then I woke up, UGH!!! Felt like I was hit by a truck. It hurt to move, try to sit up, really to do anything. I had a catheter in for the first few days and I have to say, at first I was like HELL NO LET’S NOT DO THAT (granted I had no choice) but it made the experience much smoother. Until I had to get up and walk then it felt weird.

So the day comes when the nurse feels its time to remove the catheter. Quite politely and embarrassingly manner (said sarcastically) with my mother, my boyfriend, a male nurse, and herself pushes my blanket to the side, pretty much says “spread ‘em and take a deep breath” then I feel a slight tug and she shoves a towel on my crotch.

Skip to 6/16 which is the last time my mom took my measurements I had lost 17 lbs and 12 inches all over, so 250 lbs to 233. At my Dr. Appointment on 8/11 I weighed 216 which is a loss of 34 lbs. The scaring is not bad. I can eat whatever I want and that goes for drinking as well. I can fit into jeans I haven’t been able to in a year at least.

<3 Also, my boyfriend is starting to find me more and more enticing and the aftermath of that has been great…. Here are some horrid pictures from surgery day. Enjoy!?!

Hey Dolls, so I do not know how many people in the Oklahoma City area have the same issue but it seams like all the food around here sucks! I mean coming from California I guess I can be snobbish when it comes to fast food. What ever you are craving and for whatever budget Southern California has something for everyone. I mean 9 times out of 10 you are full and satisfied even if you have a tight budget. Since moving to this area I am appalled by almost everywhere I have tried so I figured why not tell you when some where shines bright among the other broken dreams here. So yes random eateries and expeirences and if any of them help or you have suggestions... I am dying to know.

So B and I were sitting in bed watch food network as like most Sundays because it is my Saturday. It was getting late and we were getting really hungry. From google searches on Top 10 Oklahoma City Restaurants to the phone book... to saying screw it we are going to be disappointed by anything we get and we wont get out with out paying around $20 for the two of us - we decided - lets go to Buy 4 Less and grab some corn dogs because we will know what to expect and how to make them tastey. On our way B continues to rant about how horrid and dis-satisfying all food around us is, I mean McDonalds even sucks particularly bad 5 times out of 10, I didn't know that was possible. We see the sign for Woodbridge. It's small and looks like a mom-n-pop place with unassuming painted pictures of mediocre food on the windows, we decided what the hell lets check it out. We walk in and it is pretty empty but still the feeling of calm and friendly. We are greeted and led to where ever we want sit. Janice the night manager brings us tea and we ask for recommendations. She suggested the Catfish that day and said that Michael the cook is the best in Oklahoma City. We both go for it, very glad we did! The fish was flakey and wonderful. The okra was yummy and crunchy. The mash potatoes were okay (I can make better) the coleslaw yummy.. The dinner roles were awesome and the tartar sauce was really good and not as tart as most others I have tried. The people were great. The only flaws so far are cosmetic... When you order ask if Michael made it!?! We paid about $30 in all that is with a $10 tip - the catfish meals were $8.99 each but everything else is really reasonable. and we had a whole other meal for later :) *** Below are some pictures of the menu from Urbanspoon, really bad quality but hope they are helpful ***

So I thought I would add that we have been back twice since Sunday and it is Wednesday now LOL... The burgers are really good and big we split one with french fries and we were pretty much full all night. Last night B got a Bacon cheese burger which i have to say was larger than the previous and delicious his onion rings were great crunchy and flavorful especially for a "To-Go" order. I sinned and got their Chili cheese fries, way big portion split it into a splendid meal and snack later. The chili is like chunks of real meat, really nice flavor, and not to greasy.. the cheese was nice and gooey throughout... and the fries were not very soggy like i expected... I have to say been there 3 times and have not been disappointed yet. Price change the burger w/ onion rings and the chili cheese fries came out to about $13 w/ tip.

Hey Dolls Time for an update... I have gone back and fourth with myself on weather or not to post this update not know if anyone is reading and not wanting to jeopardize my journey. Here goes - Last Tuesday 3/29 I went to my sleep evaluation at Oklahoma Sleep Institute. I got there, did my intake, and was taken back for questioning and then taken to Rachael who was the women that was going to conduct my evaluation. They took my blood pressure 3 to 4 times and informed me that my blood pressure was 220/140 and if it didn't go down with in a a minute or so they would not continue the evaluation and i would be sent to Emergency Room. Needless to say they went into a panic and made me go to the ER. I was there for about 4.5 hours (that sucked!) The monitored my blood pressure, took a blood and urine sample, and gave me a colonodine to get my numbers down.

So after that fiasco I went to primary care physician that Thursday. Blood pressure was still really high. Now, every time I have to get my blood pressure checked I laugh at myself thinking, "You idiot you used to do this for fun in any store that had them...look at you now!" I hate it!!! She raised my norvasc dosage and gave me something else. I also started taking Omega 3 vitamins daily. I have been feeling really blah since... really tired, dizzy, light headed, a little nauseous, and kind of dazed.

That Brings us up to yesterday. Time for my EGD with Dr. Gregory ($250). So i have never had an IV and never been put under that hard. I was having a conversation with the doctor and just kept hearing the nurse tell him ok I am giving her another one.... until i had 4 doses. I could have sworn like mid sentence I was gone. LOL. Started coming to in a different room and my mom at my side. I felt like i was wasted, it was awesome! I got home around 10am and passed the hell out - like dead to the world status - until 4pm. Had some home drama when i woke up.

Then around 4:30pm my phone rings. Caller ID was my surgeon's office. Still very groggy I answered and got the news. They are converting to a paperless filing system so they had to move my appointment from 4/20 to 5/25 at 1pm... Needless to say i am not please, they did say that because they had to move it the appointment could turn into my pre-op appointment meaning I would get my surgery like a week or two later. So i guess that is good news, right? My hopes are kind of dwindling... any words to help me deal with the time frame and being poked and prodded so much??

Hey Dolls I have another weight loss update for you… So I met with the Registered Dietician Tiffany and with Dr. Gornichec. The meeting with Tiffany went really well. She only gave me a few goals: Drink at least 64 oz of hydrating liquids with little to no caffeine or carbonation, start walking at least 10 minutes a day (she recommended finding a cheap treadmill), and stop skipping lunch. She said that it looks like there are days where I don’t get up to 1200 calories and that’s bad so she wants me to start eating a proper lunch and dinner. Other than that it was all good I was relieved to find out that the $120 co pay was for all three times I get to see her. She is really nice and funny.

Then I met with my surgeon Dr. Gornichec, who was also really nice and funny. He made a comment that I thought was really funny and those of you who know me or have met me will think so too. He was feeling my tummy and liver and said “Now you probably won’t believe me but your pretty small up here you carry all your weight in you bottom, hips, and thighs.” I was like Ha ha no I totally believe that... LOL … He said my live is small which was shocking to me all the crap I used to put it through. He said all my vitamin levels are where they should be the only thing he said to start doing is take an Omega 3 every day because my cholesterol was a bit high. He said my “echo” showed that the left side of my heart is working harder than the right side. The next time I see him will be on the 20^th of April. Before than I have to go in for an “EGG?” they are going to knock me out and put a camera through my throat to look at my stomach and make sure there are no ulcers or anything to watch out for before surgery.

Next step is my sleep study on Tuesday the 29^th. I am not excited about trying to sleep somewhere I am not comfortable but it has to be done.

Dr. Gornichec said that when I see him on 20^th he should have the response from my insurance and he should be able to give me a surgery date. I could be getting the surgery early May.

He did confuse me and my choice for the surgery I am getting… What do you guys think? Gastric Bypass VS Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy??

Hey Dolls - just wanted to give you a quick update on the Support Group i went to last night. I wanted to start by sharing a quote with you...

There is a "lie" in believe, "over" in lover, "end" in friend, "us" in trust, and "if" in life.

Okay so the group meeting was at 6:30 @ Integris Baptist Hospital in conference rooms F/G. They started by having you sign in. Then Dr. Jayesh Panchel, plastic surgeon, came in to talk to us right away addressing the fact that with bariatric surgery there is always the risk and likely-hood of having extra skin and saggy skin. He shared some stories and some pictures. Most of the focus was on Lipo and tummy tuck procedures but also went into breast augmentation, Butt and Thigh lift, and skin removal...They also provide body contouring. They shape your tummy, sides, and booty. He said a good starting price to have in mind is about $5,000 - $10,000. Not saying this is what i am planning on but they are giving the option.

Then when we actually split into groups, there were a couple people who have had the Gastric Bypass and one gentleman who had gotten the sleeve. Everyone looked so awesome. I can’t find her under the username she gave and the name is escaping me but she had the gastric bypass done less than a year ago after having twins and she has lost 120+ lbs. I was like Damn i cannot wait! One thing they all agreed on it that the IVC filter? Is not that bad - you can't feel it and it’s easily removed.

So the days are fast approaching and the month is flying by - I see the surgeon and nutritionist on Tuesday... More on my journey then ;)

Weightloss Journey part 2.0

Hey there - okay so i had to go have my blood work done. My veins would not cooperate so she had to take the blood from my forearm... Ouch- They are doing every test i have ever heard of on it. They are testing my B1, B12, and Thiamine levels for example.

I am posting this because i thought the thiamine test is interesting- it has to be light protected so the phlebotomist had to wrap tin foil around the tube. Then she has to do a bunch of random things to it like spin it and freeze it... why? I have no idea.

Also, I spoke to my surgeon's office because they said in our first meeting that the DEPO-PRIVERA birth control shot is bad and they wanted me to change it and they ended up calling me back and saying not to be on a birth control until after my surgery because the estrogen will or can cause blood clots. If i were to continue a form of birth control like the pill or something then i would have to have an IVC filter... which is an octopus like thing the put in through my neck to catch any blood clots before the go into my brain or heart, i really don’t want that little dealy because i think it will leave a scare on my neck and you are awake when it's removed.

I have my mandatory support group meeting tonight; if anything exciting happens i will let you know!?!

Thinking about school options...

So I filled out my FAFSA when I did my taxes it said that I may qualify for an $1800 Pell grant but I have to contact the school to find out how much I actually get. I have been looking at several different classes or courses to take. I really want to take a photography class to improve and really hone in on my skills. My boyfriend really wants me to go to school for medical assisting or something along those lines.

My sister Danielle looked at Heritage College and there Medical assisting course is $24,000… Um Ouch – wtc – I think it is so wrong to have to pay for education, or at least charging that much is wrong. So I am still looking. Francis Tuttle School of technology is looking pretty promising, they are not expensive and you have options and they have all kinds of classes to offer.

When I was in High school and younger I wanted to go to school for veterinary sciences and marine biology. Still do actually but OK is not really know for those things especially Marine biology. I wanted to be a trainer at Sea World and swim with Orcas and dolphins. Can’t believe it has been a year since Tilikum killed Dawn at Sea World Orlando. Also after everything I have read, watched, and heard about marine parks I am not sure I would work at one, I still really want to kayak with orcas and dolphins and other animals in the wild.

I have chosen to get a gastric sleeve surgery. I don’t know when I will get the operation but I am totally excited! Here is the update for the process and my appointment on the 10^th.

But the Seasonique is a pill you take and you have your cycle 1 time every 3 months. I have not been normal in that area in years because of the depo.

Then I went and had an “echo” done and the awesome pulmonary function test and stress test. Ok so I had no idea what the pulmonary function test was, basically for those of you who don’t know either… You sit in a chair and have a mouth piece that you breathe into and a nose clip to prevent any air coming out of your nose. The nurse has you do several breathing tests to measure lung function and capacity. It was hard because you really have to push ALL the air out of your lungs. Then the wonderful stress test, you wear a head piece that holds the mouth piece- and you get to wear the nose clip again... and you sit on a stationary bike and pedal your heart out. The bike gradually like every 2-4 seconds it ramps up the resistance. I was able to get to a heart rate of 163 and a rampage amount of 165 and damn it was hard. At the begging the resistance was stupid easy then within like 4 minutes it was really hard. The bike seat is really hard and uncomfortable also- when I got home dang my tushie was sore…

Then I met with the psychiatrist. He was awesome… annoying but awesome. Kept me laughing and I say annoying only because the he kept challenging what I was saying. Emphasis on “Can’t” and anxiety. He said I am an oppositionist and need to make friends. LoL! But he said he thinks I am going to do great but definitely going to struggle. But he was excited because I said I was going back to school in conjunction with the surgery so I am putting myself out there.

Hopefully I will have some pictures up soon. I am hesitant to post because I look horrid and feel disgusting. But who wouldn’t feel that way when you are the biggest you have ever been. This is also new and scary having this on the web and out there for anyone to know.

I have a support group meeting on Tuesday night so I will update you then to let you know what is going on… Also… for anyone else considering getting weight loss surgery go to YouTube and search for your surgery, it has been very informative and calming.

Weightloss Journey part 1

Where do I begin? Well my name is Brittany I am currently 23 years old, and I live in Oklahoma City. I live with my boyfriend Brian we have been together for almost 4 years now, and our squirrel Kitty she will be 3 this year. Over the years I have tried many different ways to lose weight.

* Jenny Craig * Weight Watchers * Atkins * Shakes or smoothies * Most recently I tried HCG injections * and various other things not mentioned

I have never been “the skinny girl” I have always been thick and had curves. When I turned about 13 is when I knew I was unhealthy, I couldn’t run the mile in the maximum given time so I had to run or try to anyway every day for PE. Needless to say I hated every minute of it. I was always weighed around 150, I got down to 125 when I was experimenting but had to stop I was becoming a zombie.
Now I am 5’3’’ and when I last weighed in the scale decided it wanted me to feel horrid and proclaimed I weigh 250 which makes my BMI 44.5 according to WebMD. I have been battling with high blood pressure, fatigue, LOW self-esteem, anxiety, and depression for the last 6 years. I have been watching my weight just sky rocket and my appearance fade because I got the gift of a million stretch marks… EVERYWHERE!?! I have a very limited wardrobe and a very minimal sex life.

I decided I have to do something drastic and regain not only my self-esteem but confidence and clothing options as well. I have decided I am at a point in my life when weight loss surgery is an option, and I can’t wait. My appointment day is on the 10^th of March. I will keep you posted and add some pictures soon.
