Do you just moved to a new country? When you just moved to a new country, there must be several things you need to get accustomed. For instances, when you just moved to a new or strange country, you need to get accustomed to the local time. After you have just arrived to the new country, you need to set up our watch to be synchronized with the local time. Of course there are so many other things we need to synchronize when we just moved to a new country that is still awkward for us. Another example of the thing you need to synchronize when you just moved to a new country is the phone subscription.

Sometimes, the best holiday celebrations aren’t the most famous or obvious ones.

This is especially true on Oregon’s coast, where one big secret is that this time of year doesn’t just mean the area’s notoriously stormy and wild weather, but that it has many days that are unusually dry and warm compared to the rest of the state. But the most delightful secrets lie in the realm of holiday celebrations, which make for some memorable discoveries along this famously pristine stretch of shoreline.

On the northern Oregon coast, the holidays begin not with the usual celebrations, but with a major wine event and loads of signature Lewis & Clark commemorations.

On November 7, it will have been exactly two hundred years since William Clark wrote “Ocian in view! O! the Joy!” as he spotted what he thought was the Pacific Ocean (it was actually a big bay just before the ocean). For the next five months, staring in 1805, the Corps of Discovery spent their time in this part of the Northwest. The Lewis & Clark Bicentennial marks this, and things kick off at Fort Stevens (between Seaside and Astoria) on November 11, with the “Opening Ceremony – Lewis & Clark Veteran’s Day Commemoration.” Oregonian and former Miss America, Katie Harmon (2002), will sing the national anthem, and the event will feature banners from local tribes and other remembrances of the Corps of Discovery.

November 14 brings the Dedication Of The Fort To Sea Trail at Fort Ctatsop (near Fort Stevens), marking the trail from the crew’s winter quarters to their time on the beaches of Seaside.

Fort Clatsop – the replica of the Corps’ winter camp – will feature various “Wintering Over Events” between the Fort and Cannon Beach. This replica tragically burned in early October, but the visitor center there is still the center of many of the winter events, including a living history program about their Christmas at the camp on December 25. On January 7, the celebration comes to Cannon Beach (some 25 miles south), marking the day that Clark, Sacegawea and others traveled to the ocean to see a beached whale.

The adorable resort town of Seaside – which boasts broad, immaculate beaches, the “million dollar walk” of Broadway Ave., and a cove famous for surfing – will be one of the few cities to host a major traveling exhibit on Lewis & Clark. From November 19 to November 22, you’ll find the “Corps of Discovery II, 200 yrs. To The Future,” with a mobile 250-seat auditorium showing multimedia programs on Lewis & Clark’s troupe of travelers. Free. 503-861-4403. www.destinationthepacific.com.

Also on November 19, Seaside will abound with the bounty of the vineyard with the holiday-themed Seaside Downtown Wine Walk. The now-annual event features hundreds of folks wandering throughout the downtown area and taste-testing Northwest wines. $5 for the wristband. 503-717-1914 or www.seasidedowntown.com.

By late November, Seaside really gets lit up with the “Yuletide at Seaside,” where the entire town is decked out in all sorts of light configurations. Highlights include the Holiday Gift Fair on November 25 – 27 at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center, the famous Holiday Caroling & Lighted Float Parade on November 26, the Holiday Lights Tour aboard a bus on December 10 and 11, and the Seaside Children’s Christmas Party at the Seaside Convention Center on December 11. Call 800-394-3303 for more information on all these, or go to www.seasideor.com.

If you want to stay in a castle on Oregon’s coast and enjoy some special holiday events, you need only look about 15 miles south of Seaside to St. Bernard’s Bed & Breakfast. This stunning beauty is built to look somewhere between a medieval structure and a Swiss ski lodge, filled with antique furniture and a spicy sense of romance and adventure – in an exceptionally upscale way.

Every morning means gourmet breakfasts made by the able hand of owner Barbara Dau. Thanksgiving means Dau’s talents will create a special traditional dinner with her artistic flair. It’s open to in-house guests only, and cost is $65, including fine wines as well. The highlight here, aside from the food and wondrous surroundings, is the engaging, convivial atmosphere created by gathering to dine with others you haven’t met before. This, and St. Bernard’s special New Year’s Eve traditions, are becoming an increasingly popular addiction for Oregon and Washington residents.

On New Year’s Eve, Dau puts together a six-course gourmet bash, which features dishes from around the world and matching wines for each. It’s a culinary and wine-tasting trip across the globe. It all ends with champagne by a beach bonfire that is breathtaking every year. www.st-bernards.com. 800-436-2848.

In Newport – the town with two lighthouses – the ancient Bayfront gets gussied up in an incredible array of lights. Nearby, the historic Nye Beach district (known as the “Honeymoon Capitol of the World” for various reasons) has an antique charm that’s somewhere between old Europe and turn-of-the-century America with its tiny cobblestone streets.

For those who want to celebrate with more than a little finery, the stunning bistro-style eatery Village Market & Deli goes into overdrive with its legendary cuisine, offering special holiday dishes to its partial ocean view, sometimes to the shimmering sounds of guest musicians. This pleasure, and the owners’ sister business, Blu Cork Wine Bar, are one of Newport’s hush-hush holiday knockouts. Blu Cork will feature a stunning sourdough bread pudding and chocolate cake for the season that contains a multitude of taste layers, as well as specialty holiday meats, spreads, terrines, pates and champagne – all surrounded by its famous wine-themed décor and selection of memorable northwest wines. (541-574-9393 for Village Market & Deli).

Scandinavia occupies the Northern part of Europe and includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. These countries have a lot in common, so often it is recommended to visit them during one trip. May be next time you’ll be back to know one of them better.

The beginning point of trip will depend of where you come from. If you from the East usually your tour begins with Finland, and if you are from the West it could be Iceland (if it’s included) or Denmark. Be prepared to spend 12-18 days to see all the Northern capitals, depending on the amount of the countries and the time you want to spend in each of them.

Whether Finland is your starting point or not you surely visit Helsinki – Finland’s capital. The main attractions are the Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral and the Market Square. One of the most interesting sightseeing is Suomenlinna Fortress – a major military monument worthy of the Unesco World Heritage List and also home to about 900 Finns.

If you start with Copenhagen you are most likely to spend there a day or two and see Church of Our Savior and the Stock Exchange, Christiansborg, National Museum and the Royal Theater. You can also visit Tivoli Gardens, the city’s colorful amusement park. And surely you shouldn’t miss the largest tourist attraction in Denmark – The Little Mermaid.

Then, after visiting Denmark you will move to Sweden. Denmark and Sweden are connected by the ferry lines. It is the fastest and the easiest way to get to Sweden from Denmark. It’s very popular getaway among the Swedish to spend a weekend in Denmark. The drinks and entertainments are cheaper there. In Swedish capital – Stockholm you will visit Royal Palace, Riddarholm Church in the City Hall, where the annual Nobel Prize banquet is held. Sweden’s most visited museum enshrines the warship, Vasa, sunk inside Stockholm harbour while on her maiden voyage in 1628. Other Swedish cities are may be have to get throw are Gothenburg and Karlstad.

From Sweden another ferry will take you to Norway, particulary Lillehammer. The home of the Olympic games, the popular destination for winter sport. Several days can take your trip to the capital of Norway – Oslo. The attractions here sound a lot like the Swedish and Dutch ones. The Royal Palace, The Parliament. If you are tired of the contemplation of old ruins, ancient palaces and modern shops Norway gives you a unique opportunity – boat trips along the fjord offer spectacular views, and vast tracts of unspoilt natural beauty provide a peaceful retreat and excellent opportunities for hiking, skiing and sleighing.

A country a little bit far away from the other Scandinavian countries – Iceland can also be on your way. It is a country with the unique nature and very special atmosphere. Reykjavik and its surroundings is famous for its geothermal springs and Volcanic Crater Kerid, geysers. Iceland is the land not only of the hot spring, but of the glaciers too. It has not as much cultural attractions as the other Scandinavian countries, but its great natural attractions make it rather popular travel destination. But! Take note that Iceland is a very expensive country, so all the souvenirs can really be called precious.

We hope that this article is informative for those seeking a luxury hotel in Andalucia in Southern Spain. The hotels that we have stayed at in Andalucia in Southern Spain are similar to the exclusive country house hotels that we have stayed at in England-all offering a personal and professional service of the highest standard.

HOTEL CORTIJO SOTO REAL

Hotel Cortijo Soto Real, set in 1,000 acres, is located between Jerez and Seville several miles from the A4 in the middle of the Andalucian countryside.

Hotel Cortijo Soto Real was originally the opulent private residence of an Algerian prince and was converted into a luxury hotel in recent years. The hotel has 24 bedrooms/suites.

We arrived at this exclusive hotel in the evening to be greeted outside reception by two members of staff who quickly removed our luggage from the car which was then parked for us. We were upgraded to a junior suite (having been shown around 4 junior suites and asked to choose which ever one we wanted). The junior suite, beautifully furnished, had a seperate living area overlooking the orange grove. The huge bedroom had french doors opening onto a terrace with sun beds and table and chairs overlooking the acres of grounds and the outdoor swimming pool. The bathroom was the largest we have ever seen with a double ended whirlpool bath and huge shower with jets aimed at various angles. The lady asked my wife if she wanted a bath run for her whilst we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine in the exotic Morocon styled drawing room but upon returning to our suite not only had a bath been run but it was surrounded by candles-what a greeting!

Dinner was taken in the hotel restaurant and the food was delicious. Breakfast was eaten outside in a courtyard to the sound of bird song.

This luxury hotel has an indoor swimming pool, small gym and hairdressers. The outdoor swimming pool is magnificent with the hotel staff providing outstanding service throughout the day direct to you at the poolside-you can have lunch by the poolside.

On the hotel’s estate you can hire quad or mountain bikes, ride on horseback or even a horse drawn carriage or shoot.

This is an exclusive luxury hotel set in the real Spain located well away from the busy tourist resorts. Nothing is too much trouble-the attention to detail is excellent. The hotel staff are professional and most personable. This luxury hotel in Spain provides a superb base to spend the day lazing around the pool or walking in the immaculate grounds and then to drive late afternoon to Seville or Jerez or tour around the famous White Villages in the locality. You will never forget the experience of being pampered at this luxury hotel -infact you will not want to leave!

Enjoy!!

HOTEL VILLA JEREZ

Hotel Villa Jerez is a luxury hotel in Spain located in an exclusive residential area of Jerez only a 10 minute walk from the home of the famous white Andalucian horses where a display can be witnessed.

We arrived at the Hotel Villa Jerez, whch is a classic residence set in an acre of beautiful grounds, late in the evening to a wonderful greeting outside the hotel entrance door with our luggage being removed from the car and the car parked for us. We had asked for a light salad to be prepared for our late arrival but they had prepared a beautiful 3 course dinner including a salad served in the hotel restaurant by a most friendly waiter. We had a junior suite with a seperate living area, a huge bedroom and a luxurious bathroom with double ended bath and a seperate walk in shower with water jets. Our suite overlooked the gardens and had a balcony with sun beds and a table and hair here we enjoyed tea before going down to breakfast which we had outside.

This luxury hotel has 16 bedrooms so you are assured of a personal service-you will be called by your name! The outdoor swimming pool is outstanding and beautifully situated. There is a small gym and sauna and steam room.

Jerez is beautiful to walk around with many designer shops and of course world famous as it is the sherry capital of the world-a visit around a bodegas is a must.

The most memorable evening was to have dinner in the gypsy quarter of Jerez at a restaurant where a performance of Flamenco dancing was performed-it was so intimate with only about 50 guests-mainly locals. You could not help but become encaptured with the electric atmosphere!

This luxury hotel in Spain has the most wonderful location for easy access to the city centre in about 5 minutes by car. The staff at this hotel are a credit with nothing being too much trouble. We would not wish to stay anywhere else in Jerez when visiting this beautiful old city in the future. Although this luxury hotel is located close to the centre it is peaceful and tranquil relaxing outside in the gardens by the pool. You can also travel to the quiet remote beaches of the Costa De La Luz in about 40 minutes.

The Hotel Villa Jerez is a most exclusive luxury hotel where you can be assured of an attentive service-you will not wish to leave!

Enjoy!!

Nothing beats backpacking in Europe if you get the opportunity. So, you probably want to know what to pack for Europe.

Packing Your Backpack for Europe

Millions of people head off to Europe on a backpacking trip each year. Having done it five times, I can tell you that it will be one of the best times of your life. That being said, you must take some things with you. On the positive side, you don’t need that much.

Europe is not another planet. I mention this because you should keep in mind you can buy everything there if you forget it here. The first time people go backpacking in Europe, they tend to completely overdue it on the packing front. You are not climbing Mount Everest, so don’t overdue it!

The first things to pack are clothes. Depending on where you are going, you may need clothes for warm weather or cold. Assuming it is warm, you need a couple of shirts that are wrinkle resistant. You will buy others there, so don’t pack ten. You also will need a pair of shorts and a bathing suit. If you plan on visiting museums and churches, you will need a pair of long pants to get into many of them. Pack something light that is wrinkle resistant.

For your feet, you can load up on socks because they do not take much space. You will need some sandals and then a pair of something comfortable. Some prefer hiking boots, but I usually went with cross trainers. Whatever you do, make sure you get used to the shoes before heading off. You are going to walk a lot, so blisters from new shoes can be a killer.

On the personal front, you need a brush, toothpaste and any medicinal needs. That is it. You can buy anything else you need as you need it. There is zero point to lugging around shampoo all over Europe. Murphy’s law says it will open in your backpack! Keep it super simple.

While your trip will result in great memories, they will fade in time. Take a camera and, of course, one of our travel journals. The camera should be hardy so it can take the inevitable beating that will occur. Our Nomad travel journals are compact and in a case. They are perfect for trips to Europe because we were on one when we got the idea!

Europeans can read. This means you can buy guidebooks over there. If you plan to visit three or four countries, take the guidebook for the FIRST country only. You can pick up the others over there or trade with other backpackers. Guidebooks are heavy and this will save you the aggravation of hauling them everywhere. Also, cybercafés are everywhere, so you do not need to bring a laptop unless you really have a specific need.

Finally, keep copies of your passport and any supporting documentation with you. One set goes in your backpack while another goes in your shorts, money belt or wherever you have space.

Pack light. If you forget something, you can buy it over there. Have a blast!

Tents are used for any occasion and event. You can look tent as an open-air shaded pavilion, or a climate controlled banquet hall, practically overnight. It can be used to complete any of your goals regarding outdoor events. Tents are used for events, meetings, weddings, parties, and promotions. Tents are not only a shelter but provide elaborate and elegant environment.

There are color graphics showing samples of the outdoor canopies, poly tarps, pipes, fittings, and tent accessories. Tents are made from waterproof, UVI resistant fabrics. You can see tents and canopy in different colors including red, white, blue green, red, yellow and more.

The color range of tents should be soothing, as it fit to your party time, and you can use tent accessories and lighting for any timing. As if your party in noon it will require different type of color match, generally tents in light shade are best for any party in noon when sun is overhead.

However tents for evening party should be semi dark colors that match the best when sun sets in the sky. There are large lines of colored sunscreen tarps, as well as fire retardant tarps.

They come in different sizes and color choices. You can see frame tents that are extremely flexible, especially in allowing interior modification to fit the function. Lighting, sound systems, air conditioning and wall hangings can be suspended from the structure.

Old Sturbridge Village has both feet planted firmly in 19th century New England. You’ll experience the dawn of prosperity and modern commerce and what life was like in a typical New England village of the time. Role playing staff in period costumes recreate authentic discussions, and demonstrations of thoughts and skills, found during this exciting era in American history.

Once described in a 1950 article as “The Town That Wants to Be Out of Date,” Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts is a lovingly recreated village of early 19th century New England. The Village opened to the public in 1946 and received 5,000 visitors in its first year of operation. Today nearly half a million visitors a year experience the authentic buildings and wonderful collections of artifacts on display.

OSV has been a survivor. New England weather and accidents can be destructive to outdoor museums and Old Sturbridge Village has seen blizzards, hurricanes, flooding, and the occasional fire. Look for the high water mark notched on Gristmill on the millpond from Hurricane Diane.

Located 60 miles west of Boston off exit 9 on Route 90, Sturbridge Village is set among 200 acres of rural Central Massachusetts. Many of the structures are original and moved here from villages in Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Reconstructed and restored with painstaking care they tingle your senses with their rustic charm, and simple Yankee designs.

Unpaved country roads lead you around the common and to outlying areas of inviting barns and craftsmen establishments, such as the shoe and tin shops. Here you’ll see and talk to role-playing 19th century craftsmen. Marvel as they skillfully produce goods using only the tools and resources available in the 1830s. Take the opportunity to discuss with them their skill and work and what they think about life – just remember their response will be from a 19th century viewpoint.

Both a museum and educational resource, Old Sturbridge Village is primarily a place to explore for all ages. The centerpiece is the recreated New England town and outlying areas containing more than 40 buildings to visit, experience, and enjoy.

Sturbridge Village contains residential homes, a printing office, a bank, and stores and shops. You’ll learn why banks didn’t do personal loans in those days – but who did. And why the buildings called Meetinghouses, weren’t called churches – even though each Sunday most villagers spent four hours worshipping in them.

Stop by the Salem household in their handsome Towne House, and then visit and have tea at the Parsonage before calling on the Fenno and Fitch dwellings. These residential homes on the common in Sturbridge Village are full of surprises and homely comforts. And they’re always open and welcoming to you.

And if you need to stop for refreshment, Sturbridge Village has plenty of picnic areas if you’ve brought your own food, or you can purchase hot and cold fare at Bullard Tavern, or treats at Little Cakes. Options to eat change with the seasons so be sure to check the guide the day you visit.

The vision of the original founders of Old Sturbridge Village was for a place to learn by doing and direct experience – an active outdoors museum. I’ve always found Sturbridge Village a welcome change of pace and reminder that quality of life has nothing to do with the latest wide screen TV or iPod.

Plan to spend at least 3-4 enjoyable hours at Old Sturbridge Village. Remember a ticket to Sturbridge Village is good for two days within a 10-day period.

Old Sturbridge Village is one of my favorite three living museums in New England. The other two are Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, eastern Massachusetts, and Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. All three for different reasons are marvelous experiences of New England’s contribution to American history.

More than your average sailboat, mega yacht charters offer all the luxury of a five star hotel, more room than most city apartments around the world, and the freedom to go where you want without having to pack and unpack at every stop. In addition, mega yacht charters come fully staffed if you so desire making this one vacation you won’t need another vacation to recover from!

The Secrets to Affordable Yachting

Mega yacht excursion can run the gamut of prices. Some fully-loaded and staffed luxury yachts can cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single week. So how can the average person afford such luxury? The key is to make it a family affair, choose the right destinations, and time things to get the best rates. If you are willing to do some of the cooking, cleaning, and even sailing responsibilities yourself, you will find it even easier to afford a vacation at sea.

Most luxury motorboat vessels can accommodate dozens of people. If you have a large extended family or close friends that you enjoy travelling with then it’s easy to share the expense and make an affordable week-long trip. With six sleeping cabins, for example, you can accommodate up to six separate families. If the week’s voyage runs about $30,000 (an easy to find fare) then each family is only spending $5,000 for a week of luxury and exciting site seeing. You can hardly get into the Disney theme parks with a family of four for that!

Another way to cut costs is to choose a destination that is more contained. A trip through the Bahamas or Caribbean Islands will be more affordable than an excursion that spans the seas from one continent to another. Three or four days on this kind of cruise is easy to travel and visit many different ports representing several countries.

If you don’t hire a cook or cleaning crew, you can save on the rent as well. A trip from Miami to the Bahamas is short enough that you will not have to worry about major cleaning and can save money on housekeeping services.

The Advantages of Private Cruising

Mega yacht charters are unlike regular cruise ships. On commercial cruises there is a social element many people enjoy, but the private cruising really puts you in the captain’s chair. A professional captain does the navigating of course, but you are in charge of the destinations. You choose when you will depart and how long you will stay.

In addition to choosing the itinerary you also get to decide who will be seated next to you at dinner since a chartered cruise has only your invited guests. You can even choose the menu and select the wine, and when the day is done, you retire to a suite as luxurious as those found in the finest hotels.

Private quarters on a mega yacht charter means you won’t have to worry about lugging a suitcase from one vacation spot to the next. Your room goes with you everywhere! Most yachts of this calliper also have full sized baths, exercise facilities and several parlours for evening entertaining that never has to end.

We visited Cape Town in South Africa to attend a wedding flying from Birmingham in England via Amsterdam to Cape Town with KLM.

Our flight touched down late at night and we were driven by our friends to the first of two luxury hotels we had arranged to stay at for four nights in Cape Town:-

THE CAPE HERITAGE HOTEL

This luxury hotel in Cape Town is centrally located within walking distance of both the financial area of the city and the shops and parks.

There are fifteen bedrooms. Our room was huge, beautifully furnished with a wonderful wooden floor and we could sit up in bed with a view of Table Mountain.

This luxury hotel in Cape Town is owned by an Englishman who is most personable-nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a delight served by the most friendly staff you could possibly meet. A lovely lounge to relax in with a drink in the evening. Although dinner is not served there are numerous excellent restaurants close by which the hotel can recommend-do not miss dining at L’Aubergine! The hotel will arrange a taxi for you if required -in a mercedez benz.

You can be assured of a warm welcome at this luxury hotel in the middle of Cape Town and you will be well looked after during your stay.

Enjoy!

For the final two nights of our stay in Cape Town we moved a few miles into the exclusive suburbs of Cape Town to :-

LES CASCADES DE BANTRY BAY

This luxury hotel, actually described as a lodge, is located in a peaceful exclusive residential area of Bantry Bay.

It is personally run and has six bedrooms in the main house all with balconies with views of the sea. The furnishings both in the bedroom and in the public areas are of the highest quality. The bathroom was luxurious. In The Villa, a separate building located within the grounds, there are four bedrooms designed in a contemporary style. The small swimming pools are beautiful with lovely seating areas to relax- candles lit on an evening. Breakfast was served outside overlooking one of the swimming pools. Dinner is also served but we did not dine at this luxury hotel.

The staff are very attentive and personable at this small luxury hotel.

Enjoy!

Whilst we did not stay at The Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town we did have afternoon tea and what a memorable experience that was! We have had afternoon tea at many other luxury hotels but nothing has compared with that at The Mount Nelson Hotel. Do not miss the experience!

Enjoy!
