Bada Ganpati in Indore is regarded as the largest Ganpati stature in the world. A sacred site flocked by the devotees in large numbers, the temple was built in the year 1875 under the reign of Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar. The mammoth deity measures eight meters in length from head to foot.
According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Ganpati is regarded as the hinderer and protector from all obstacles. The shrine with its rich history and religious fervor is rendered the highest regard by the devotees who make a beeline to the shrine and offer their prayers. The shrine is located at the western end of M G Road in Indore.
The construction methodology used in the temple is rather unique and even weird at times. The complex is built by using limestone mix, jiggery, bricks and mud from elephants and horse stables. Later, the holy soil and water from the major pilgrim places were also brought and used on the temple. The chief image of deity made from precious metals generates a lot of attention from the devotees and overall its appearance is simply amazing. The beautiful frames of the idol are done completely in gold, silver, copper, brass.

Lalbagh Palace’s description is enough to compel the artistically endowed ones visit and experience its majesty. A beautiful example of the splendor and royal opulence, sublime Rajput and fusion architecture on display, rare paintings and frescoes adorning its walls and grandeur of bygone era apparent through every turn. During its days, the palace was one of the most elegant residences in the country.
The palace saw its construction started in 1886 under the Holkar ruler Tukoji Rao Holkar II which was carried out in three stages. Finally, under the rule of Tukoji Rao Holkar III in 1921 the construction was completed which reflects today as one of the finest specimen of architectural skills and mastery. The descendents of the Holkar’s continued to reside in the palace until recently, and a part of the palace serves as a museum showcasing royal artifacts, arms & ammunitions, rare paintings and splendor from its golden era.
With a perfect synthesis of decorative and renaissance styles on display, the palace is now managed and developed by the Government of Madhya Pradesh as a cultural centre. Open to general public allowing them to experience the aura and majesty of the bygone age, the palace attracts visitors from far and wide. The chief attraction comprises of splendidly proportioned and furnished rooms, richly adorned with ornamental moldings and frescoed ceilings. Sprawling over 28 acres of area, the complex once used to house one of the best rose gardens in the country, unfortunately it has lost much of that old glory. The architecture and design exhibits traits of highly westernized aesthetic sensibility.

Rajwada is a historical palace built by the Holkars about two centuries ago and stands today as one of Indore’s most popular tourist attractions. This sever storied<img class="alignright size-full wp-image-107" title="rajwada" src="http://www.tourismindore.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/rajwada.jpg" alt="" width="180" style="padding-left:13px;"height="150" /> structure is located near the Chhatris and servers today as a fine example of royal grandeur and architectural skills. Overall, the structure comprises of two parts, the first one located at the heart of the city and the second one standing in the old part of the town. Standing amongst the crowded streets of the Kajuri Bazar, the fort used to serve as the gateway of the Rajwada.
With its strategic location, the fort used to be the centre of all commercial and trading activities in the city. As with other famous forts & palaces in the region, Rajwada palace too exhibits the same traits that have made the architectural style famous. Exhibiting a fine blend of Maratha, Mughal and French styles, the palatial structure is sure to leave you spellbound. The entrance itself is beautiful with lofty archway and a giant wooden door covered with iron studs. As one makes his way through the entrance, one is greeted with a courtyard comprising of arched Ganesha hall, a number of balconies, windows and corridors, surrounded by galleried rooms. Originally built to host functions for the royals, the hall is now used for art exhibitions and classical music concerts.
