The Negev Wine Route is something surprising! Amid the harsh desert scenery which dominates the landscape of southern Israel, a series of vineyards has been built over the last decade by a number of pioneering and dedicated idealistic people, who love their land, and together with state of the art drip irrigation technology, have grown vines and created wines where just a few years before, the idea would be unimaginable. The vineyards create some highly respectable and well received wines, and offer a very unusual experience for tourists exploring the desert.

Israel is a real beach nation and the question of which are the best beaches in Israel is one of great controversy and debate. From the urban beaches in Tel Aviv to the rural beaches of the Western Galilee, every Israeli has their favorite beach, and Israel's beaches come to life throughout the year with every conceivable watersport, beach sport and beach activity taking place. Israel has a long coast on the Mediterranean Sea which is one long beach, as well as beaches at the Dead Sea and in Eilat on the Red Sea. Whilst everyone has their own favorite beach, here is our selection of Israel's most amazing beaches.

The Hamat Gader resort is one of the most unique places in the north of Israel. Tucked away under the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret) and eastward of the Jordan River, Hamat Gader featured a ton of unique attractions for all ages. The main attraction is obviously the thermal springs which have been exploited by mankind since the Romans, some 2,000 years ago. But there is more, Hamat Gader also hosts the only crocodile farm in all of the Middle East.

Shavuot in Israel is a period with loads of amazing events. Music festivals, events for the kids, exhibitions, and much, much more, are part of what happens each year for Shavuot in Israel. Celebrated in Israel for one day, usually in late May or early June, Shavuot's timing, when the weather is great but not too hot, has made it a favored time for outdoor events, and across the country. In 2012, Shavuot will fall from sundown on May 26 to sundown on May 27.

Twice every year, the village of Abu Gosh in the Jerusalem Hills a few kilometers west of Jerusalem, usually famed for its hummus restaurants, comes alive to the sound of music. The Abu Gosh Music Festival is one of Israel's largest vocal music festivals taking place at the festivals of Sukkot (in Fall-time) and Shavuot (in Spring-time). The next Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival takes place on May 25-27, 2012.

Being vegetarian in Israel is no problem. Kosher food rules mean that for many vegetarians, Israel is an easy country to maintain their diet whilst enjoying their food as there is a high proportion of restaurants which serve no meat whatsoever. In addition, those restaurants which do serve meat will almost always offer vegetarian options, and Israeli street food is especially vegetarian friendly. So vegetarians, read on, and any fears you might have about being a vegetarian in Israel will be allayed.

Taking place throughout the summer, the Sunbeat Music Festival is Israel's most innovative Global Beats Festival - one of the only music festivals in Israel to rival the big festivals of Europe. Unlike most festivals, Sunbeat is held in three parts, throughout the summer - in 2012 this will be in June, July, and September, at a beautiful location in the Galilee. Attracting passionate, groovy, and upbeat acts from within Israel as well as internationally, Sunbeat is set to be something to remember. The first Sunbeat Festival of 2012 will take place on June 16, with following festivals in July and September.

The annual Jerusalem Student Day and White Night Jerusalem is an extravaganza of music and cultural events which take place in May each year. The events are centered around the Sacher Park, and attract some of Israel's leading artists who play in the event which begins after sundown and, as White Night suggests, continues through the night. Jerusalem Student Day and White Night will, in 2012, take place from the evening of May 20 until the morning of May 21. This coincides with Jerusalem Day which is celebrated throughout the city.
