Vehicle Defence Systems

A major refurbishment at the airport to accommodate the increase in passenger traffic has also involved increased security measures. Part of this development has included a vehicle defence system at the perimeter between the Passenger Terminal and car park to prevent unwanted vehicle incursion.

Townscape Products Limited has launched the brand new 120-litre NOVA litter bin, built to last and to withstand the rigours of today's tough environments in urban areas and open spaces. This high quality side-loading bin, designed to complement the company's Voltan and Metro metal seating, is robust and easy to maintain. All the components are manufactured in the UK and individually zinc treated prior to assembly to prevent rust lines appearing in welded seams after a few years of service. Stainless steel cladding around the apertures prevents unsightly chipping in high impact areas. It also has stainless steel hinges and locks and a stainless steel ring protects even the key entrance to the lock. The NOVA has four apertures for any approach angle and has a lightweight aluminium liner with two handles for easy side removal. This versatile product can also be supplied as a double bin for excess waste areas or for separating waste for recycling. These double units are back-to-back with a single lid and doors opening at either end with an internal plate for physical separation of waste. Optional extras include logos, coloured laser-cut lettering and cigarette stubber plates and the NOVA can be powder-coated in 20 standard colours. ‘Discus’ Range Scores at MK Dons

Opened in July 2007 and with a current capacity of 22,000, stadium mk is a forward leap in stadium design in the UK.

As the photo below demonstrates the Discus seating range is very flexible. The KFC installation comprises the Discus Picnic set in the 2, 3, 4 and 6 seater variations.

The 3 seater unit is also shown with full wheelchair access. All of the units are below ground fixed and finished in a polyester powder coated colour scheme of the client’s choosing. The Idigbo hardwood timber tops are finished with a multi coat application of sadolin treatment to enhance their appearance.

The requirement from the client was to prevent unwanted vehicle incursion onto the busy pedestrian plazas’ at the front of the airport terminals adjacent to the vehicle drop off points. The additional measures were required at the Departure and Arrivals of T1, T2, and T3 terminals. Following the terrorist attack at Glasgow airport the need for increased vehicle access security measures is an issue that Manchester Airport has reacted to very robustly. However rather than view the additional measures as a hindrance to the normal operation of a very busy international airport, Manchester has grasped the opportunity to incorporate the required changes with revised public transport and taxi drop off arrangements. The changes are designed to improve customer transit times and enhance the whole airport experience.
