STRATTEC SECURITY CORPORATION OFFERS BOLT CABLE LOCKS

Pin and Loop Locks Deliver One-Key Convenience to Users

I just got one of these cable locks. It took me about three seconds to key the lock to use my Chevy truck key on it. I like these Bolt locks because now I can use my truck key to unlock this six foot cable lock and the Bolt pin hitch lock that I already had. One key does all my locks now much cooler then trying to figure out which key fits what. The only complaint that I have is that you have to hold the lock real tight to turn the key far enough to unlock the lock. With that being said having one key for everything makes it all worth while.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – STRATTEC® Security Corporation, a leading automotive lock and key manufacturer, offers 6-foot BOLT® Cable Locks featuring a pin and loop design to provide flexible length options.

The BOLT Cable Locks are made from 1/4-inch coiled cable with 1/16-inch black vinyl coating and are coil sprung for compact storage. They feature Breakthrough One-Key Lock Technology, which permanently programs the lock to the owner’s vehicle ignition key. Once the ignition key is inserted into the lock cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key.

“Professionals use multiple cable locks on the jobsite, and that can mean countless chances for misplaced keys and lost productivity,” said Sales Manager Erika Garcia. “Our patented technology simplifies this by delivering one-key convenience and eliminating the need to carry extra keys. Plus, our auto-return spring automatically locks when the key is removed for added security. ”

The BOLT Cable Locks feature an automotive-grade lock shutter to keep out weather and debris and a six-plate tumbler sidebar that prevents picking and bumping.

BOLT Cable Locks are year/make/model specific – they work with most General Motors, Ford and Chrysler/Jeep vehicles on the road today – so numerous locks can be used with one vehicle ignition key. Additional locks such as padlocks, receiver locks and spare tire locks are also available. For more information, visit www.boltlock.com.

About STRATTEC

STRATTEC Security Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive locks, keys and related access control products, and is the primary lock supplier to Ford, GM and Chrysler. STRATTEC’s history in the automotive business spans 100 years. For more information, write to 3333 West Good Hope Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53209; call 877.251.8798; or visit www.boltlock.com.

Since the weather was so nice in the desert area just north of Phoenix AZ 7 of us decided to go for a nice long ride for the day. Our plan is to start in the desert North of Black Canyon City which has an elevation of about 2,000 feet. We will combine a few trails along the way. At mid day we will stop at Crown King an old mining town near the tops of the Bradshaw Mountains at an elevation of approx. 6,000 for lunch. Then return via what I call the back way from Cleator along Turkey Creek to our trucks by late afternoon.

We all met at the staging area as usual to unload and get ready for the ride as the sun was coming up. I was the 4th truck back from the front of the group. I just unloaded my quad when I heard a bunch of noise at the head of the line. I looked up and saw Jeff’s King quad on its lid, wheels up and Jeff underneath the machine. I threw my keys and went running. By the time I got there Zane and Bob had the quad off of him but he got his bell rung pretty good. He has a cut on his eye lid and a few scrapes as well. All and all I would say he was lucky. He didn’t put on his helmet to unload and didn’t start his machine. He was going to just idle down the ramp. We think he hit his rear break as he reached the bottom of his steep ramps and the quad immediately flipped over on top of him. He never even had a chance to jump off.

Well that was the end of Jeff’s riding for the day. We have lost riders before but never in the parking lot unloading. I guess this is a good teachable moment.

Jeff called us later in the day to let us know he got 3 stitches in his eyelid and a thorough check up. The back of his head was sore along with his ribs. It could have been much worse.

Jeff had the GPS tracks for this ride but now I had to lead. I have the GPS tracks in my head. Some of the guys make fun of me because I don’t use a GPS. I have one . I just normally don’t turn it on. Maybe someday. Oh well I know the planned route.

Of the riders we have left we have two quads with Maxxis Bighorns, one with Maxxis Cerros, one with PitBull Rockers and me with DWT Moapa tires along with a motorcycle. It will be fun to see if we will be able to tell the difference in grip from one tire to the next.

Instead of taking the main dirt road to Cleator we took a detour down along the wash to get warmed up. Some of the guys thought it would be fun to air out their quads a bit on a small jump.

Zane decided to see how his rockers with over 4,000 miles on them would hold on an almost straight drop off into the wash with Bob, our Bill Clint look alike looking on.

Our next obstacle was a very steep, loose, long, rocky hill climb. There were a couple of ledges towards the top of the climb that would get your full attention. This climb was not part of the destination but it was very close to the start of the drop off trail and it is a nasty climb so we just needed to do it because it was there. What a blast. You can really feel your tires searching for grip as you claw you way up the loose rocky hill. It is amazing the tires are able to get traction in some places because it is so loose and steep but nobody had any problems.

What a beautiful day to be out riding as I take the group to a trail I named The Drop Off Trail.

I found this a couple of years ago from the other side of a canyon. Jeff and I scouted it out but the trail is washed out near the bottom. No worries we can just put a rope on the back of the quad to keep it safe for the rider as he rides down the rock ledge.

Bob was eager to go first as we had to drop off the side of hill towards the bottom because the trail has bee3n washed out what appears to be many years ago. I stopped Bob until we had a rope secured on the back of his quad. I said I know it doesn’t look steep but it is quite off camber along with being steep. Bob whole heartily agreed as he started down the trail.

We make our way down one at a time except for Jim on his motorcycle. He went down ahead of everyone and just jumped off the ledge. Show off!!

Zane was last and when he started down Jim said “ we’ll see you later Zane” . He said, wait a minute. Jim’s reply was , “if you need help, we shouldn’t be here”. Ha, ha. That was a good one. It just so happens that Zane is one of the most talented riders of the group.

Wow, that was a blast. We were not the least bit cold anymore.
At the bottom of the wash there was a truck that rolled off the trail on the side we were about to go up. What a shame. It looked like it used to be a nice truck.

Since we were going to do the Desoto mine trail we might as well show a couple of the guys the top of the mountain while we are going by. This is the top of the Desoto Mine. As you look over the edge you can see the switchback road that the miners took to work the mine back in the old days.

As we come back down from the top we continue along the Desoto Mine trail. This is a well known Jeep trail we have been doing for a number of years. It is even listed in the Gordon Wells book Off-road of Arizona.

There are a few places that can give you quite a pucker along the way. Bob found out how quickly the trail can turn on you as he was too close to Terren on a steep hill climb and got caught on a step up. I wasn’t sure what to do as I was a long way up the hill with my 250 MM lens as he was teetering. I yelled at him to see if he needed help but he powered through the spot on his Polaris XP 850 with the grip of the Maxxis Cerros tires.

I will say he had me nervous but he pulled through like a champ. Luckily Bob is an excellent rider.

There are plenty of obstacles along this trail but with this group we did not make hardly any stops to get photos as we powered through the rugged terrain.

Along our way to the old gold mining town of Crown King we ran into some snow. This is a good indication that we are climbing in elevation.

We came out to the main dirt road for the last 10 miles to Crown King. Four of the group took off behind a pick- up truck. I told Terren to follow me, I know a short cut. There is a trail at the beginning of the first switchback that goes almost straight up the side of the mountain rather than having to go the long way around. As we started up the trail I forgot this had some good off camber boulder crawls. Fortunately my Moapa’s and Terrens Bighorns have excellent sidewall grip so we were able to fly up the trail. We came out ahead of the truck on the next switchback. Of course we made to the town before the rest of the group. I was kind of funny as they could not understand how we made it there before them. What a blast.

The first gold mines were recorded in Crown King in 1875. All the mines in the area have been closed since the 1950’s. This is one of the reasons there are so many trails all over the Bradshaw Mountains. They were built as mining roads. There are estimates that over $2,000,000 in gold was taken from the Crown king mine alone.

We had time for an excellent burger sitting in the pine trees at the old Saloon before heading back down the mountain.

This little guy was hoping we would share our meal but he was out of luck.

As we came to the town of Cleator (population 7 last I heard) we decided to take the back way to the trucks. This is a scenic desert run that winds along Turkey creek crossing it about 20 times before coming out about 3 miles from the trucks. Sometimes it is especially fun if there has been some rain. I have seen the creek as wide as 70 feet before. Today it was just a trickle in spots, darn it…

There was one place along the creek that had a ton of loose sand. Terren thought it would be funny to roost me as I was taking some photos. That was not good as it went down my back.

On our last run to the main road Terren pulled over. I was last and stopped with him. We found a hole in his brand new Bighorn tires right in the middle of the tread. Very strange but it happens. This was his first ride with his new horns. Oh well He threw in a couple of plugs and was good to go.

As we reflected on the ride and how each of the tires handled the terrain it was difficult to find any fault with any of the different kind of tires. They all gave us excellent traction throughout all kinds of difficult rocky rutted terrain. We did not do any specific testing on this ride but we did pay attention to grip on obstacles.

We are so lucky to be able to ride in an area where we can start at a low desert elevation, eat lunch in the pines and ride back to the warmth of the desert all in one day.

We made it back to the truck safe and sound 85 miles later with no other incidents other than Jeff unloading his quad. The funny thing is Jeff was telling everybody there was a spot on the trail we would have to use ropes We just didn’t know it would be for him when he was unloading his quad out of his truck.

We learned another lesson today. Don’t take unloading your quad from the truck for granted, and always buy your tires and wheels from Discount Tire Direct.

CYPRESS, Calif. – January 12, 2012 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., has launched a first-of-its-kind promotion with GoPro, the world’s most versatile camera, to give away free HD HERO2 Motorsports Edition cameras to Yamaha ATV customers in the first half of 2012.

Through the unique promotion, anyone who buys a 400cc and above Yamaha ATV* by the end of May will receive a free GoPro HD HERO2 (a $299 value) from Yamaha. Full details are on Yamaha’s website: http://tinyurl.com/Yamaha-GoPro

“Yamaha is excited to offer a free HD HERO2 camera to ATV customers in 2012 through this new promotion with GoPro,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV/SxS group marketing manager. “We’ve used the HERO cameras on motocross tracks, on trail rides, in the sand dunes and even when out hunting. It’s a great camera, and we expect this will be an exciting offer for motorsports and outdoor enthusiasts alike.”

The HD HERO2 camera can be worn or mounted on just about anything utilizing GoPro’s numerous mounts and accessories. This versatility matches well with Yamaha’s wide ranging ATVs, from the highest-performance sports ATVs to the most durable and off-road capable utility 4×4 models.

Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson wore a GoPro camera while racing his YFZ450R to a record fifth championship in the 2011 motocross season (http://www.youtube.com/user/quadXracing?feature=watch), and Yamaha’s Whitetail Diaries (http://www.whitetaildiaries.com/episodes.html) hunting show on NBC Sports mounts the cameras to the best selling** big bore utility Grizzly 700 with EPS to capture dramatic action in the field.

Know the Trail Riding Rules:

It is time to talk about this again. Seems like only half the people I see on the trails want to let me know how many people they are riding with. Sure there are a lot of very friendly riders flashing me the “peace” sign or just waving hello. This seems to be in response of my signaling them how many riders are behind me in our group, whether it be one or 20. I just shake my head and keep my eyes open for anyone else following behind them.

There are a lot of ideas included in the concept of Trail Etiquette, but the most important single thing is courtesy. If you’re courteous to the other riders on the trail, you’ll be following the most common rules of Trail Etiquette. The only real addition to that is to include hand signals to inform others on the trail if there’s anyone behind you. This can be incredibly important in dusty conditions or other limited visibility situations.

Hand signals will tell the people you meet on the trail how many are in your group. The first rider in the group is responsible for sending the first signal to the on coming riders, or hikers, horsemen etc. The hand signal is accomplished by holding up the number of fingers representing the number of machines in the group. All members of the group should participate in sending the hand signals indicating the number of machines to follow. The message is completed by the last rider who indicates that they are the last rider by holding up a closed fist indicating that there will be no riders to follow. So the next time you’re on the trail, inform your group how to use hand signals and see that they do.

I have compiled a list of guidelines to create a courteous atmosphere when riding. These guidelines may help preserve the peace with others that would like to limit our off road activities.

Be considerate of others on the trail and keep to the right.

Yield the right of way to other non-motorized recreationists. Realize that people judge all off-roaders by your actions.

Slow down and use caution when approaching or overtaking another vehicle and make your presence well known in advance.

Maintain control of your speed at all times and approach turns in anticipation of someone around the bend.

Stay on designated trails to avoid trampling native vegetation and minimize erosion to trails by not using muddy trails or short-cutting switchbacks.

Do not disturb wildlife or livestock.

Do not litter. Pack out what you pack in, and pack out more than your share whenever possible.

Respect public and private property, including trail use signs, no trespassing signs, and leave gates as I have found them.

Be self-sufficient and choose your destination and travel speed based on your ability, equipment, the terrain, and the present and potential weather conditions.

Do not travel solo when riding in remote areas. Leave word of your destination and when you plan to return.

Some additional Group Ride concepts:

Follow all instructions of the lead rider when on group rides.

Do not ride ahead of the lead rider without his/her permission.

Do not fall behind the designated drag rider (last rider).

Do not separate yourself from the other riders.

Maintain at least 30’ between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Increase distance when approaching hills or obstacles.

Don’t stop at the top of a hill or on a narrow section of trail if there are riders behind you. If you must stop, keep moving until there is a wide spot to get completely off the trail, so other riders can safely pass.

Notify riders behind you of any trail hazards you observe, such as holes in the trail, wire, branches, etc.

Do not hold on to branches when you go through trees or bushes.

Don’t ride off from a stopping point until all riders are mounted and ready to move on.

If you have a slow vehicle, or you are having problems with your vehicle, ride to the rear of the group, in front of the drag rider.

If you must leave the main group, notify the trail boss or the drag rider.

Do not leave paper, cans or trash on the trails or at lunch sites.

Ride safe and keep the rubber side down….ED

Eric Durkee

After reading some of the responses I realized an IMPORTANT thing was missing: Thanks Dave Edmiston

Other points to add to the list:
Always count the number of riders in your group (whether you’re the leader or not). Assume that your leader forgot to count or can’t remember the number. After you count, say the number aloud to someone near you so they can double-check. It really sucks to miscount, because you don’t know if you’re just an idiot who can’t count or if you really lost someone.
When the group stops, count heads and verify you have everyone.
Stop at every fork in the trail to ensure that the riders behind you know which way to go.
You are responsible for the rider behind you. If the rider behind you gets lost, it’s your fault.
If you get separated from your group, stop and wait for the riders ahead of you to double back and find you.
If the rider behind you is lagging or having trouble, slow down (or stop) so you can still see him/her. The rider in front of you will do the same until the group adjusts its pace accordingly.
Don’t ride with anyone who takes his helmet and gloves off at every stop and takes forever to put them back on, because that guy is a tool and he’ll be the one who gets your group into trouble, guaranteed.

Company Celebrates Grizzly 700 FI EPS as Best Selling Big Bore ATV in the 49th State

CYPRESS, Calif. – December 19, 2011 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A. is proud to announce that its “Real World Tough” Grizzly 700 FI EPS is the best selling big bore ATV in Alaska. To celebrate, Yamaha is partnering with Cabela’s as the official outfitter and is giving three lucky winners the “real world” adventure of a lifetime with an all expense paid trip for two to one of the world’s toughest ATV testing grounds.

The adventure package, worth $9,200 per winner, will be full of scenic Grizzly ATV rides, guided trips to Alaska’s best fishing spots, a $500 Cabela’s gift card and much more. Three runners up will each receive a $250 Cabela’s gift card. Specific rules, dates and entry forms are at http://www.facebook.com/#!/yamahamotorusa?sk=app_253523038026889 or http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outdoor/feedback/yamaha_giveaway2.aspx?ev=11grizzlyadventure

“The Grizzly 700 is absolutely the toughest big bore ATV out there – a claim proven over and over by third party studies and our own customers,” said Steve Nessl, marketing manager for Yamaha’s ATV/SxS group. “Three lucky winners of our Alaskan Adventure Sweepstakes are going to get to experience Grizzly durability and reliability first hand in the Alaskan outback courtesy of Yamaha.”

Proving the Grizzly is “Real World Tough,” a recent third party study by ADP Lightspeed showed that Yamaha has the most durable belt driven drivetrain in the industry – a critical feature in Alaska’s remote areas. Combine this durability with top-of-the-line features like Electric Power Steering (EPS), fuel injection, Ultramatic® automatic transmission, On-Command® push-button four-wheel-drive, four wheel independent suspension and much more, the big Grizzly is not only the toughest but also the most off-road capable ATV in its class.

San Antonio, TX – Honored American Veterans Afield hosted 150 disabled veterans and wounded active duty personnel and their families (over 250 attendees) at HAVA’s 4th Annual National Family Day at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday November 12, 2011. The day of shooting, entertainment, food, raffles and fellowship also featured exhibitions by USA Shooting Team members Mark Weeks and Haley Dunn. The event offered a unique 10 stage 3-gun competition format while still keeping fun and safety at the forefront. Tremendous industry volunteerism made this possible.

Numerous shooting sports companies contributed prizes for the adult raffle which awarded over $10,000 in prizes and hunts to these deserving American heroes including firearms from Smith & Wesson, Mossberg, Glock and Sig Sauer. XS Sight Systems hosted an air soft course of “fire” and a Kids Raffle which awarded prizes to all of the youth attendees. Local VFW District 20 served lunch and dinner for the attendees and 200 local middle-school children created personal thank-you notes to the troops for their dedicated service. Since 2008, HAVA’s National Family Day has served over 600 Wounded Warriors and family members and has become the shooting sports industry’s finest expression of its appreciation of those who serve so valiantly.

“It is our privilege to represent the industry in thanking those disabled veterans and wounded active duty heroes and their families who have given their full measure of commitment to defend America’s freedom,” said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. “National Family Day has grown into a major event for the wounded warrior families from Brook Army Medical Center, numerous transition house facilities and Fort Hood; and our attendance has tripled since the initial event despite numerous other Veterans Day and Marine Birthday festivities. Our focus on support for the entire family is unique and the sacrifice of spouses and kids is applauded. We believe that getting the disabled and wounded out on a hunt or to a shooting event is sound therapy for those who are trying to rebuild their lives and reinforce confidence in the future despite personal challenges. Several dozen shooting sports companies have joined this effort and we solicit support from all interested companies and volunteers.”

About HAVA
