With my introductory post about Japanese artist and character designer Redjuice coming to Singapore as anInvioted Guest for STGCC, here's a closer look at his art done for anime "GUILTY CROWN" - featuring a distinct design aesthetic an visual treatment, at times subtle and explosive at the same time, all held together with a certain "grace", IMHO. I like what I am seeing here!

WHAT: "Guilty Crown (ギルティクラウン Giruti Kuraun?) is a 2011 Japanese anime television series produced by Production I.G which aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA program block from October 2011. The story revolves around Shu Ouma, a high school boy who inadvertently obtains an ability called "The Power of the Kings" that enables him to draw out items called "Voids" from other people. He is then thrown into the conflict between a resistance group called Funeral Parlor which aims to restore Japan's independence from a quasi-governmental organization known as the GHQ. In the process, Shu has to deal with the burden his ability puts on his shoulders and the horrific mystery of his past. The series incorporates elements of numerous genres, mostly drawing from science fantasy." (Wiki)

We've seen the Black and Bronze colorway in an earlier post, today we get to witness the WHITE Edition of Godmachine's "PREY FOR ME" statuette, currently on pre-order from Disturbia, shipping the first week of July.

"Standing at 8 inches tall, 'Prey For Me' is available in 3 colourways; Black (£45), Bronze (£85) and D.I.Y White (£55), with a total edition of just 200 pieces. The Black variant is limited to 100 pieces, and Bronze and White limited to just 50 of each. The bust is a hand cast, and hand painted polystone statuette (the bronze variant has been electroplated), and comes boxed in bespoke packaging."

One more month till San Diego Comic Con, and since our earlier glimpse at "Mr. Pumfrey and His Astounding Mechanised Perambulator" from Doktor A, producers Munky King reveals an image showcasing the (partial) side shot of the figure (in it's wax phase) showcasing the "Mechanised Perambulator", with which the Mechtorian operator rides in/on - seen in the below image with it's black-n-gold colors. Debut of Minicel Series by Rotobox x KusoVinyl for #SDCC2013

I've posted images earlier for MINICEL from Rotobox (hell, I have been following their developments closely!), now here's the official product details for their launch at San Diego Comic Con!

Standing 4 inches tall, and available "blind boxed", Minicel is limited to 500 pcs total - with a single blind box containing either Minicel or Minifah - both of which are "Super-Deformed" baby versions of their earlier Celsius and Fahranheit characters! Besides being loaded out with accessories, the figures themselves possess articulated at head and arms.

Available for US$15 per pull via KusoVinyl's SDCC Booth #5642 - Minicel comes with 3 guns (1 handgun, 1 sniper, and 1 rifle), and Minifah comes with 2 future katana. Also watch out for chase colorways of both figures, which we have not seen thus far!

QuicklyQ Mini Qee by Toy2R for #TTF2013

Here's a look at a new fowl-inspired "QuicklyQ Mini Qee from Toy2R, with Raymond Choy mentioning: "coming soon for Taipei Toy Festival and Toy2R Web Store."

The figure was first released at an earlier "Qee x Hong Kong Pacific Lions club", inclusive of exclusive logo printed on the figure's chest (see images below). Will we see a new logo printed for the TTF-version? I certainly hope it is not a black TTF-logo tho, and something more luxe? But then again… Nevertheless am liking the yellow "rubber ducky" colors seen thus far on the main figure :)

Limited to only 15 resin pieces, this Black/Gold version is my fav seen thus far, with the color palette choices popping, as well giving it a swell glam-rocker with the black+gold, accentuated with a luxe funk-club vibe with the pink, methinks! #SDCC2013 Watch: Circus Posterus & ESC Toy

Circus Posterus will be taking over Cardboard Spaceship's booth #5346 at this year's San Diego ComiCon on Saturday, July 20th, featuring the works of Chris Ryniak, Brandt Peters, Amanda Louise Spayd, and Kathie Olivas. No further product details or schedules as yet, but I reckon their "Wandering Misfits" series might well be making a debut at SDCC.

Meanwhile ESC Toy seems to be have a space at Dragatomi's booth, with a whopping total of seven items for sale? No news on whether they are SDCC-exclusives, or first releases, or a mixture of toys and prints. Further details when I get them, folks!

Redjuice for #STGCC2013

In addition to my earlier announcement post for Invited Guests of the coming Singapore Toy Games and Comic Con 2013, one of the names mentioned in the press release was "Redjuice".

Being unfamiliar with him and his work, I decided to address that situation, and googled him, and what laid before me, made me an instant fan!

Redjuice is the moniker of Japanese digital artist and character designer, and has recently worked on animes "Beatless" and "Guilty Crown" (both of which I have since decided will be featured individually on the days to come). And while these are not exactly marquee anime-names, the work done for them, is virtually impeccable, and pretty darn awesomesauce! You can check out more via redjuicegraphics.com, and/or his highly impressive deviantART (most images here via). The design aesthetics appeal to me greatly, and his balance between the elegance of kawaii girls and danger is excitingly subtle, coupled with a restrained but mecha-design aura, which both tantalizes and excites! Like I said, I am a new fan!

And I would be waiting patiently to purchase his illustration artbooks and have him sign them, if he brings them to STGCC during August 31st to September 1st, of course! (please do please do please do) Now for some images to share, of his illustration and designs, alongside figurines and collectibles made of them!

Vin Diesel trades fast cars for space bikes in this new RIDDICK (International) trailer! (But he mumbles thru everything, doesn't he? LOL).

Now I am a fan of "Chronicles of Riddick" (yes, I am repeating myself), and the new trailer seems to show both signs of Necromongers (from "Chronicles" - thanks to Steven Simmons for the headsup) and elements from "Pitch Black" as well (I was not a huge fan of the first movie btw) … but am nevertheless intrigued to see how this pans out … especially with Katee "Starbuck" Sackhoff on point! Big Boner by Ron English x Blackbook Toy

You might have seen sketch-teasers being posted by Nigo at Blackbook Toy, and at his solo show @ Clutter Gallery "Thought Factory", they were revealed, and now we have images of the upcoming BIG BONER figure to share! So what folks say about being "big boned" might be true? LOL

"Big Boner" first appeared on the cover of Ron English's "Stickable Art Offenses" book, as an image on a sticker, which Nigo mentioned: "I have wanted to make Skull toy, so when I see this cross bones skull, something clicked! I asked Ron to draw the whole body. He liked my idea and sent me the sketch below."

Now thanks to Nigo, Big Boner is to become a collectible, as produced by Blackbook Toy! And while no exact debut date is revealed, Nigo teases: "That means its debut is around the corner! Next month, Taipei Toy Fes and SDCC is waiting... You might don't want to miss them!"

I sure don't, and this is by far my fav Ron English character to date! LOL

Custom-Feature: The Keeper of the Forest by Taylored Curiosities

‘The Keeper of the Forest, is a wise old beast, He wanders round the Earth, looking for a feast. He's always very hungry, he could eat a tasty horse, But the Morrow find him biscuits, it's what he craves, of course.'

Penny of Taylored Curiosities shares with us her latest custom, a companion piece for her "Keeper" submitted for the Dream in Plastic show, named "Keeper of the Forest".

"I have used a 4″ DIY Kidrobot Munny and combined sewing, my original resin toys, sculpting and up-cycling with painting and needle felting to create this one of a kind creature. The Morrow is hand sculpted and cast in a minty green colour and measures a tiny 2cm."

"The forest floor is needle felted with an artificial leaf adorned with a button, fixed in place. The Keepers face is hand sculpted and painted. The fungus is also hand sculpted and painted and there finished off with moss. A hand sewn nest is the perfect resting place for the Morrow when it's not off collecting biscuits for the Keeper.

And a second forest themed piece I have been working on is a custom 7.5" Dude that Dudebox asked me to do for their online store." ~shared Penny.

"This is the Morrow Treehouse. I have used the 7.5" Dude to create a functional treehouse for my tiny Morrow creatures. Hollowed out, I have needle felted a comfy floor that is surrounded with feathers and has two hand made nests set in, perfect for the Morrow. A working swing hangs in the middle. The Dude has been painted with hand detailing to give it a tree effect and is adorned with sculpted fungus, hand embroidered leaves and moss. Two Morrow are having fun playing in the treehouse. These measure just under 2cm and are hand cast from my original sculpt. The Dude is signed and dated underneath." ~added Penny.

S.U.C.K.L.E. Series 1 by Suckadelic x DKE Toys on KickStarter

At San Diego Comic-Con 2012 DKE Toys debuted the first 5 sculpts of The Super Sucklord's mini figure line, S.U.C.K.L.E. (Simply Unimportant Collectable Kitschy Little Eyesores). Sculpted by George Gaspar (of October Toys) the series pays homage to the classic mid-eighties toy line M.U.S.C.L.E. by Mattel. Now with a total of 10 unique figures for S.U.C.K.L.E. Series 1, the project is pending production via their Kickstarter. Pledge starts now through July 15th at 10pm PST.

A couple of toy updates from Martin Hsu, featuring a look at the final prototype teaser (above) for Dragon Boy's best buddy - Blacky, the Dragon Dog!

And speaking of DB, a purple colorway was recently revealed and showcased at Wingrow Gallery in Taiwan (more images here) for "Young Art Taipei", and is inspired by colors from Chinese folk art. And while the "Wingrow Edition" Dragon Boy will be sold mostly in Taiwan, Martin mentioned that he will have about 10 pieces available at his San Diego ComicCon booth # 4531! Jermaine Roger's "Creeping" Revealed

With the teaser of Dero's bum still fresh in our collective minds, here's a reveal of Jermaine Rogers' CREEPING! Sculpted by J-RYU, this resin figure measures 10 x 5 inches, with this being the "Regular" colorway, scheduled for a release June 22nd at Jermaine's solo show "Comfort For The Desperate Children" @ the SCION AV Installation space (Opening Reception 7-10 PM), where he will be in attendance.

And while we await further product information (edition numbers, pricing etc), also know that there will be 2 more variants, with a "secret" colorway revealed at the SCION event, and another being a San Diego ComicCon exclusive!

Standing 5 inches tall, this vinyl figurine comes housed in a window box packaging and is priced at US$50.00 per (stated as "Limited Edition" but quantity not mentioned). As well Scott Tolleson will be at SDCC Booth #5139, and be able to sign Bitta for fans after they buy him. And buy him you will, or Scott might end up like that homeless guy holding the figure… no wait…

HAZE

WHAT IS HAZE? "Haze is traditionally an atmospheric phenomenon where dust, smoke and other dry particles obscure the clarity of the sky ... Sources for haze particles include farming (ploughing in dry weather), traffic, industry, forest fires and peat field fire ... Since 1991 haze has been a particularly acute problem in Southeast Asia. In response the ASEAN countries agreed on a Regional Haze Action Plan (1997) and later signed the Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (2002). Under the agreement the ASEAN secretariat hosts a co-ordination and support unit." [Wiki]

I had posted the above text circa 2006, and since then, the annual Haze problem persists till this day, with the PSI index on Tuesday morning at 9AM Singapore is 115, within 'unhealthy' range. Yahoo!News reports that "On Monday at 10pm, the reading hit 155, the highest Singapore has seen in 16 years".

I have constantly resisted posting about "real world" events such as this on this blog, but for a few toy-related imagery for specific worldwide events peppered thru the years on online bloggery, but "HAZEGEAR" has been my only commentary on the Haze-problem, and it continues to be, and I truly wonder what the hell the respective governments of either countries are doing to ensure the health and quality of life to the citizens affected by this problem? What is pathologically annoying and frustrating, is that we KNOW what the problem is, and where it originates from, but WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS?

"Environment and National Resources Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan urged Indonesians "to enforce their own laws" in a Facebook post on Monday night. "We are deeply concerned that the 113 hotspots in Sumatra have caused our 3 hour PSI to rise to 152. NEA has been in touch with the Indonesian authorities to register our concern, and renew our offer of assistance," he wrote."

Does someone need to be sued for billions in the first place, so someone somewhere will stop the end to the madness because it is simply cheaper to do so? Should tourism in either countries grind to a halt before anybody realizes it is not fortuitous to endure the Haze? Does no one care for the health of their countries' citizens?

Least I am accused of attempting to "incite" any undue incidents with regards to this situation, I shall instead post this imagery, to remind you of what YOU are doing to your children, for your considerations:

HazeGear was/is my personal response to the effects of haze in Singapore - of what the future may hold, as folk and kin walk the streets and live their lives with the need for breathing-aids, in some form or another.

HAZEGEAR was created out of 1:6th-scaled action figures, and taken by myself between 10th October 2006 and 22nd October 2006.
