For the third year in a row, TPN produced Xbox’s presence at the craziness that is Comic Con. This year, in addition to the booth, TPN helped with four offsite parties, on three different days, at three separate hotels. You haven’t lived until you’ve crossed train tracks carrying 75lbs of posters in a mob of 5,000 people.

For four and a half days the Xbox booth remained jammed with eager gamers waiting to play Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, and Fable 3 for the first time. The lines for these games averaged about an hour, but that did not deter these hard core fans. Each day featured a signing by developers and writers, and excited attendees got everything from games and posters to $500 replica guns signed.

30 minutes after opening

If you haven’t been to Comic Con, it’s every bit as crazy as the news makes it sound. One of every three people is dressed in costume, there are 140,000 people in attendance, and everyone is there for specific reason. It could be playing the newest Xbox games, or having your favorite comic writer sign your book. They all carry sacks larger than pillow cases to grab asll the free swag given out, then come back the next day and do it again.

Our offsite parties were a huge hit as well. At one, we invited the public to try out Xbox’s new Kinect, and a sampling of its games. This lounge was open all four days and very well attended for being elsewhere in San Diego. There were also three exclusive, invite-only parties centered around Kinect, where the likes of the cast of Glee and Michael Cera sampled Xbox’s yet to be released device, as well. In all cases Kinect was a smashing hit. People were wary at first to try, but once they started we could not get them to stop.

We’ll be back next year, hopefully with a bigger booth and even more parties. I am already resting up for it.

View from inside the booth looking out

Congrats to Technogym! They have been awarded Exclusive Supplier of all athletic preparation centers at the London 2012 Olympics, and this marks their involvement in five Olympics. Expecting to supply over 750 pieces of equipment, Technogym was chosen “due to the absolute need to guarantee the athletes the very best technologies”, according to Lord Coe, chairman of Locog (London Organising Committee).

TPN is proud to support Technogym and their achievement. To read the full release, see below.

London 2012 Olympics choose Technogym

The company has been appointed Exclusive Supplier for the first Wellness Olympics in history

Technogym has been appointed Exclusive Supplier for all athletic preparation centres for the upcoming Olympic Games.

For Technogym, internationally recognised as setting the standard in the sector of technologies for athletic preparation, rehabilitation and wellness, it is our fifth Olympic experience after Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Turin 2006 and Beijing 2008. In London Technogym will provide the equipment for the main gymnasium in the Olympic Village, open to all athletes taking part, and the specific preparation centres for the 28 disciplines located in the respective structures. We expect to supply more than 750 pieces of equipment, the details of which will be defined during the coming 24 months remaining before the event.

Nerio Alessandri, president of Technogym said: “This important achievement represents a victory for the whole Technogym team. We are very proud to have been chosen for the 5th time as the official supplier of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games”, adding “the London 2012 Olympics will be a unique chance to promote wellness as a social opportunity and to get increasing numbers of people interested in regular exercise”. According to Lord Coe, chairman of Locog (London Organising Committee), Technogym was selected “due to the absolute need to guarantee the athletes the very best technologies”.

Technogym’s two decades of commitment to the spread of wellness as a social opportunity had a fundamental role, beyond the innovative technologies that the company will provide for the athletes, in achieving this major result. In London the Olympics for the first time will represent a long-term investment in a healthier country; alongside with the Games the City of London and the British Government will run a comprehensive program to attract the population to regular physical activity.

In a scenario in which cardiovascular illnesses – mostly due to sedentary lifestyles and poor lifestyle choices – are the leading cause of death and in which the number of people overweight worldwide has exceeded the number of those suffering from malnutrition, big sporting events, thanks to their capacity for bringing people together, have the important mission of spreading a healthy sports culture amongst the population, and above all amongst young people. The advantages are obvious. For the Government it could mean a reduction in healthcare spending, companies will benefit from being able to count on workers who are healthier, more efficient and motivated, and people in general will be able to live better.

Woop – woop! We won! Last night, in the city that never sleeps, John Vadino shared the glory with Boeing’s BCA Communications team, in accepting the PRSA Silver Anvil award for the 787 First Flight, events category.

TPN was a key producer in the planning of this award-winning event. Most noteably was our delivery of the First Flight webcast – which is available on-demand here: http://787firstflight.newairplane.com/ffindex.html

“There was literally a team of hundreds of volunteers who created a memorable event worthy of the 787 Dreamliner. It was an honor to have led the team that planned and delivered this event. Those who attended first flight in person or watched it on the web will never forget the rush of emotion when that airplane left the ground and became airborne. It was a great moment for Boeing, for our customer, our partners and employees – for our entire industry.” ~ Yvonne Leach of 787 Program Communications

First Flight Facts: More than 1 million viewers watched the live webcast of take off and landing. Tens of thousands of people attended the takeoff in person. This was the first BCA first flight that included a hosted webcast. Planning for the event started more than a year in advance.

Silver Anvil Facts: The Silver Anvil Awards are presented annually to organizations that have successfully addressed contemporary issues with exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness. Entries are evaluated for their strategic nature of public relations programs using four key components — research, planning, execution and evaluation. This year, 126 finalists were selected from a record 893 entries. The Silver Anvils and Silver Anvil Awards of Excellence are presented, as well as the Best of Silver Anvil and Public Relations Professional of the Year.

Seattle, WA, USA, April 20, 2010 – The Production Network (TPN) is pleased to announce its Dynamic Webcasting™ (DWC) sponsorship affiliation with Compassionate Action Network (CAN) and Compassionate Seattle: It’s Up To Us event that celebrates Seattle as the world’s first city to affirm the Charter for Compassion.

A one of a kind event deserves a one-of-a-kind web-interface. DWC technologists (propelled by the willingness of a savvy and progressive team at CAN) have devised a truly engaging webcast unlike any experienced before. Online audiences will not only watch and listen to the video stream, but customize their page views, interact with speaker slides and video simultaneously and participate in polling questions. Viewers will contribute to important, cause-centric essay discussions and respond to a persuasive Call to Action feature. All this in a webcast…all to emulate and deliver the power of this remarkable event to a remote audience.

“We are so pleased to be working with a client that has the creativity and vision to use all that the Dynamic Webcasting tool has to offer. We have engaged record-breaking audiences for worthy causes in recent past, but we have never “put the tool to the test” like we will for CAN’s viewers. “ Greg Hendrickson Interactive Media Director

There is no registration necessary to attend the virtual event at http://compassionateseattle.dynamicwebcasting.net . The webcast goes live in conjunction with the event launch at 9 a.m. on April 24th.

About TPN/DWC
Some of the most well-known DWC and TPN work includes our record breaking production and webcast of the Seeds of Compassion events held in April 11-15, 2008 (and still on demand at http://seedsofcompassion.org/ ); as well as for our recent production and webcast of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner First Flight.

DWC provides the ideal check list of features offered by premier competitors but with a distinct advantage. DWC’s content delivery system enables a far richer visual experience including; high resolution graphics and multiple data streams (video, PowerPoint, Q&A/polling) to run simultaneously. Multiple assets are delivered through a singular, low-bandwidth connection which is more efficient, cost effective, improves branding and user experience (information retention, interactivity) and have vast implications for data management, information capture and communication.

Established in 1989, The Production Network is a global leader in experience marketing. At home and around the world TPN creates multi-dimensional exhibits, environments, digital spaces and live events to engage and motivate audiences. www.tpnevents.com

Intel Unveils New Server Chip

By Don Clark

Wall Street Journal

March 30, 2010

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304739104575154212321714670.html?mod=WSJ_business_whatsNews

Intel Corp. completed a broad overhaul of its chips for server systems, vowing to move the technology it helped popularize in personal computers to the very largest machines used by businesses and government agencies.

Intel chip hits 8-core milestone

By Brooke Crothers

CNET

March 30, 2010

http://news.cnet.com/business-tech/?keyword=AND+6100
The Xeon 7500 offers what Intel is saying is the largest performance leap in the history of its Xeon line, with an average three-fold jump in performance. And the feat of putting eight cores on one die–the raw chip–offers practical advantages to data centers. As a yardstick, data centers can replace 20 single core, 4-chip servers with a single new Xeon 7500 processor series-based system, according to Intel.

Why Nehalem-EX matters

By Jonathan Eunice

CNET

March 30, 2010

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31114_3-10471701-258.html

Nehalem-EX (officially, the Intel Xeon 7500) completes the set with a high-end, server version. It ups the feeds and speeds, of course. More cores! More sockets! More memory! More widgets! Most important, it makes it straightforward for server vendors to create extremely powerful x86 servers. 4-socket/32-core servers are easy peasy. 8-socket/64-core servers-enormous by any historical standard-are not much harder. Vendors like IBM and NEC that have majored on scale-up will go even higher. At the same time, Nehalem-EX adds the I/O bandwidth and reliability/availability features needed to feed and care for such large resource pools. Sure, there may be more variants of Nehalem to come (preview: Even more cores! Even higher frequencies! Even more bandwidth!), but the entire range is now in play.
