Latest news from the Miami dudes of Dude Skywalker are that they made this new release together with Nightdrive Miami and Fordistas XII. Grum - Everytime EP

Interesting to hear some new original material from Grum. Really defining that sunny, naïve, 80's nu disco sound around 2009-10, it was necessary for him to reinvent himself. From the sound of it, I think he has managed to do that. My guess is he's done it by listening a lot to Chris Malinchak, which of course isn't a bad thing since we all love that guy. We're not as mind-blown as from some of those old classics, but "Everything" leaves us wanting more.

The embrace of deep house, and especially the British take on it (that everyone seem to be into at the moment - included us) is emphasized by the remixer selections. Berlin's Andre Crom has made the darker nightclub version, Ejeca's remix is for the cooling down hangout on some Ibiza beach after an all-nighter, while the Mia Dora remix is somewhere in between. Great stuff all around.

"Everything EP" is out now on Heartbeats.

Propulse with a deep Depeche Mode version

Berlin based OFF Recordings is one of my favourite labels giving us high quality deep house music on a regular basis. A while ago they started giving away tracks for free, now it's time for the third track in this serie (OFF_FT003).

Propulse have made this great deep alternate version of Depeche Mode's 1987 classic tune "Never Let Me Down Again". So different from the original that you actually can say it's a deep house track with the vocals of Dave Gahan. Regardless, it's a huge track!

Here you also have "Never Let Me Down Again" with the official video from 1987.

This is the real Daft Punk version for sure!

Introducing Ted Lyons & His Cubs

Piggy-back posting hyped-up and moderately legal* not-yet released stuff like in the last post brings us back to the exhilarating times when we started the blog. So do posting remixes of Empire of the Sun's "We Are The People". We just loved that song, and we loved probably half of the millions of remixes that turned up of it. And since we doubt that Daft Punk needs the 'enormous' pulling power of the Renault 4L (or is it a Volvo Amazon?) that is the Tracasseur music blog, it's always more exciting to write about producers that actually need your attention.

That's why I'm proud to present Tuscon producer Ted Lyons & His Cubs. I don't know much about him other than his name isn't Ted Lyons, and I'm not even sure those cubs are actually his. But somehow his cover of London Beat's 90's hit "Thinking About You" ended up in my rotation, and since sometime around January we at Tracasseur and our friends have been spinning his tunes quite a lot. The reason why I'm saying that is that virtually no one has heard his music. That London Beat has just over a hundred plays in nine months, which by Soundcloud standards makes his music virtually virgin sounds. So, if you don't want to jump on the Daft Punk hype, you've got the chance to be Ted Lyons & His Cubs 10th (yes, *tenth*) listener on Last.fm.

So, I don't know if you've heard or not, but there is this French Kanye cover band called Daft Punk that are apparently coming out with an album pretty soon, and a new single, called "Get Lucky" even sooner. So soon, in fact, that Amazon today published the listing for it. Obviously there are a million unofficial versions and remixes out already, but can this be a crappy 128 kbps version of the actual Radio Edit? Even if the length matches Amazon's listing, and it sounds a lot like the sound-bites we've already heard (to death), there's no way to be sure. Is it really Pharrell's voice and Nile Rodgers' guitar playing? You be the judge.

We also trust you not to download this thing as you risk ending up as cell mates with Gottfrid Svartholm (he seems nice though) if you do. On the other hand, if you're really a DP fan, you'd want to buy the real deal when it gets out anyway.

So, what do we make of it? Is it really the best human achievement since toasting sliced bread on a rotating wheel over open fire? Well, no.

In a way it's against our principles to jump on the Daft Punk hype bandwagon, but then again it's hard to dodge one of the most hyped up releases coming up - it just becomes a hotly discussed piece of current affairs. Obviously Daft Punk are a hugely important band, but I'd say it's more because of their cultural influence rather than their musical influence. The huge feat of Daft Punk is that they managed to reach a whole new audience outside the mostly European electronic dance music fans, and that truly is a great achievement. On the other hand, it wouldn't have come about without Kanye. And although all three of their albums have been great, the first two were better than the third, so they have to reinvent themselves to stay on top. And doing funky disco the thing that will make them stay on top? I'm not too sure. For the nu disco fans of the blogging community, I think "Get Lucky" would have made more sense a couple of years ago. On the other hand, for the not yet raptured, making high-quality but mainstream cross-over R'n'B dance tracks for the American market, it's a whole lot better than the Swedish House Mafias and Guettas that we have to suffer through today.

Am I being too grumpy? Maybe, and I'd gladly be proven wrong.

Ellingson is the the new project from Aaron Ellingson, one third of the Canadian band Young Empires. With this new project he tries out a new side of himself and it sounds really interesting. Really like his take on Bruno Mars' monster hit "Grenade" and how he turns it into something really good.

The other remix from Ellingson in this first batch will be his take on Serena Ryder's "Stompa". We also know that a lot of things are in the coming and we will let you know as soon we get some new stuff from Mr Ellingson.

The musical profile will be pretty broad, but there are some familiar names among the first scheduled releases. At Tracasseur, we like to surround ourselves with talented friends in the hope of some of it rubs off on us. We wrote about Tobbe Azure Blue and his new single yesterday, and another great producer, and great guy in general, is Auke Auxiliary Tha Masterfader. He recently had an EP released on Franck Freak You's (another great guy) On The Fruit label. And even if (or because?) we're knee-deep in the deep house/nu garage trend it's refreshing to hear Aux' blend of retro disco, italo and funk, topped off with a little new wave and even some sprinkles of glam rock. Remix support comes in the form of new acquaintance Phunktastike from Argentina and old acquaintance Worship from Geneva.

As a bonus, here's an Auxiliary remix of Chilean Statickman.

As a second bonus we'll throw in Freak You's remix of Chrome Canyon's "Generations" taken from his remix album out now on Stones Throw (including remixes by Gavin Russom, Chateau Marmont and ATTAR!).

I like this newer sound from Owl Vision, still dark but also a bit more bouncier. It comes as a free download and it has a little secret twist in the end.

First new single from Azure Blue

He's not only our friend, he's also one of the most talented music composers in Sweden. Azure Blue is the solo project of Tobias Isaksson and with his first album "Rule of Thirds" released two years ago he rose up as a composer with that special touch composing brilliant and dreamy indie pop. The album also got the right attention when the Swedish independent grammy award, Manifest gave it the first prize for Best Pop in 2012.

Now Azure Blue is back with a new album in the coming. So it's time once again to dream ourselves away together with Azure Blue's lovely sound. The first single from the album "Beyond the Dreams There's Infinite Doubt" is the already epic "The Road I Know" that I got to listen as the first person in the world actually a couple of months ago. In this great first release Azure Blue has recruited our love Julia Vero to accompany him. And it's a smart choice because Julia's half-whispering voice really lift the track up even one more level. Once again the proof of a talented composer.
