Goodbye 2009 - Hello 2010

2009 is dead and gone. It has been a tough year for me. Trying to balance life as a published author, a wife and mother and working full time as well as changing jobs has been at times difficult.

This year saw the release of my first novel NIGHT'S COLD KISS and also saw me writing my sophomore book. I have only ever written one full manuscript before and that was Night's Cold Kiss. So I was terrified down to my toes - could I possibly write another book? Could I make it as good as the first? Did I have another book in me? Well I finished the manuscript but it is still to be seen if it stacks up against NCK. So sophomore book down - barring a little work - and now I'm thinking of book 3.

I am not making any New Year's Resolutions - resolutions just get broken. But what I want to try and do this year is find more balance.

The last few years I have badly neglected my husband and I want to give him more of my time. My children are older and don't need as much of my attention, but I still want to be there for them if they need me. My writing is important, not only because I have a contract but because it is part of me - what I have to do and what I want to do for the rest of my life. As for my day job - besides needing to eat I actually like my work as an analyst programmer. It keeps my mind ticking. But some time it gets very busy and very stressful and that can get difficult to manage.

So the theme of 2010 for me is balance. Balance in my home life, balance in my writing and balance in my day job.

May you all have a happy and prosperous 2010 and may you also find your balance.

O Come all ye Vampires, Werecreatures and Faeries

Can you believe it is that time of the year already? 2009 has gone by in a speeding-bullet flash. What a year it has been - both good and bad. While my first novel came out, there were a lot of other things that came up which had nothing to do with books or writing. But I am not going to dwell on those.

Let's wrap up the 2009. First there was the very first Australian Romance Readers Convention attended by the fabulous and generous Sherrylin Kenyon and Diana Love. There were many other authors in attendence - but there were a lot of readers too - and that is what really made it special. I was a contracted author - but still yet to have my book come out and yet the readers reaction to my cover was spectacular.
Here I am with Friend gnomeangel at the ARRC09

I had a release of a short ebook story in June under another name which gave me a little thrill. And then I had the release of NIGHT'S COLD KISS at the end of August after I attended the Romance Writers of Australia conference.

<lj-embed id="18" />

This was followed by several book appearences which have been blogged about at Bookthingo and again at Bookthingo and also at at the RWA Blog.

And - thrill of thrills - NGHT'S COLD KISS was a shortlised Aurealis finalist for Best Horror Novel.

What a big year. What is the biggest thing that's happened to you this year?

I am very proud of this girl's release and can't wait to celebrate her next one.
Stone Cold Lover
By: Mel Teshco
Released 14 August 2009

Heiress Loretta Shaw is notorious for her loose morals and sexual needs. Trouble is, it’s taken her one too many one-night stands to realize that no man can extinguish the sexual fire she feels toward her guardian, Cray Diamond.

A long-ago curse made Cray immortal—a gargoyle, a guardian, who is impelled to protect a human chosen by the curse. He is imprisoned in stone during daylight hours but dusk returns him to flesh and bone to carry out his immortal duty.

That Cray can shift between human and living gargoyle at night bothers Loretta not one bit. She’s seen him naked many times and her desire for him—in any shape or form—knows no bounds. She’s tired of his resistance. He’s her gargoyle…and she wants him in her bed.

This is Anna's second Nocturn Bites - the fabulous debut was Savage Dragon released in July. I have recently started SD and I am very inpressed. I can't wait to get into this new release.

Wind Kissed, Fire Bound
By Anna Hacket
Released 01 September 2009
As Keeper of the Winds, Livia Cavalli needed to focus her power on keeping the evil Tempest Winds trapped in their island prison. What she doesn't need is to be distracted by sexy horse trainer Rafe Donovan. Three hundred years ago, Livia became an immortal Keeper to numb her emotions, but Rafe arouses her in a way she hasn't felt for centuries.

For Rafe, Livia is a challenge he longs to solveand take to bed. Once she's in his arms, their desire is overwhelming. But when his own powers reveal Livia's secret pain, he realizes taking her body isn't enoughhe wants to heal her soul, too...

Annette's debut novel won the RWA's Golden Heart Award in 2008, the year we were both finalists. I am so very excited to see the first release for my friend. Here's to many more.
Drawn Into Darkness: A Soul Gatherer Novel
by Annette McCleave

Released 01 September 2009
Serving a five-hundred-year sentence as a Soul Gatherer-one who battles demons for the souls of the dead-Lachlan MacGregor keeps his distance from humans. That is, until the lovely Rachel Lewis knocks on his door, begging for help.

As they struggle to rescue her daughter from the clutches of a powerful demon, Lachlan finds himself increasingly drawn to the artistic single mother. But when Death assigns him an unbearable task, he's left wondering who will provide more for his soul.
