An expert plastic surgeon is hosting an event in Florida to help explain his cutting-edge breast augmentation procedure to women who might be interested in breast enlargements.

“I’d like Louis to get me a bikini because I forgot mine and it means I can’t use the pool. Swimming helps you lose weight. I’ve been going in wearing leggings, which isn’t very good,” she added.

Expert dermatologists have confirmed that microdermabrasion can have a positive impact on the appearance of skin by helping to reduce the appearance of brown spots.

According to several board certified dermatologists based at the Dermatology Centre of Atlanta in Georgia, the skin treatment works by lightening the skin’s pigment gently over the series of a course of treatments.

In this way, the appearance of darkly pigmented skin – brown spots – can be lessened and made far less obvious. Many women feel self-conscious about brown spots on their face, but non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels can work wonders.

Microdermabrasion treatments essentially involves gently removing the most superficial layer of skin, which can remove surface blemishes such as brown spots, age spots, certain acne marks and fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment can also help to remove any dirt and oil trapped inside facial pores, and boost the skin's natural elasticity by encouraging collagen production.

As there is very little recovery time involved following a course of microdermabrasion, it is a popular treatment both in the USA and here in the UK. Other skin-improving procedures, such as Intense Light Pulse therapy, can also be effective in improving the skin’s appearance and raising a client’s confidence in their appearance.

With Pippa Middleton sparking a growing interest in buttock implant procedures across the UK, a reality TV star has now jumped onto the bandwagon in a bid to achieve the body of her dreams.

One of the stars of hugely popular ITV2 reality series’ The Only Way Is Essex,’ Chloe Simm, has come clean about her desire for a perfect rear end. The programme recently followed her as she visited a cosmetic surgeon to have a consultation about the procedures to see if it was right for her.

The 29-year-old model – who has already had lip implants and a breast augmentation – feels that the buttock surgery will help her to feel confident about herself and her look – and may even land her a new man.

“It's the pressure of Essex! I'm nearly 30, not married, not engaged, I've got a small bottom, nothing. Maybe my new bum will get me a man,” Simm told the Daily Mail when asked about her reasons behind considering the cosmetic surgery procedure. “I’ve got everything at the front but nothing at the back,” she added.

Simm is not alone in her quest for the perfect posterior – increasing numbers of women across the globe are turning to the procedure, and it is fast becoming one of the most requested surgeries carried out in the UK.

Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr Dai Davies from Cosmetic Surgery Partners said, “The bottom has always been an important part of the female sexual display, from the hottentot tribe to the increase in bum implants in Brazilian women.”

He attributed the rising popularity of buttock implants to a desire to enhance appearance, improve confidence levels and make women more sexually appealing to the opposite sex.

Some of the most desired bottoms include Pippa Middleton, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj, all of whom are seen to have the perfect proportions.

A cosmetic surgeon has carried out extensive research to reveal the perfect breast dimensions.

Consultant Plastic Surgeon at University College London and the Royal Free Hospitals, Patrick Mallucci, studied 100 glamour models appearing in The Sun newspaper over the course of three months.

He has now revealed the 'ideal female proportions' in his study entitled 'Concepts In Aesthetic Breast Dimensions: Analysis Of The Ideal Breast.'

“For 30 years The Sun has been putting a picture of a topless girl on Page 3 every day, making it one of the paper’s most enduringly popular features. The fundamental rule is that for a girl to make it on to Page 3, she must have entirely natural breasts," said Mallucci.

“It made me question what it is that makes readers find these breasts appealing to the eye, and whether there is a common theme between them that might define that.”

The cosmetic surgeon used computer measuring tools to analyse the proportions of each model's breasts, finding that they all shared four common factors.

Amongst the dimensions analysed included the angle at which the nipple pointed and the expanse of skin on the upper and lower parts of the breast around the nipple.

“The study revealed that in all cases the nipple ‘‘meridian’’ – the horizontal line drawn at the level of the nipple – lay at a point where, on average, the proportion of the breast above it represented 45 per cent of overall volume of the breast and below it 55 per cent," he told News.com.au.

“In the majority of cases the upper pole was either straight or concave, and the nipple was pointing skywards at an average angle of 20 degrees. In all cases the breasts demonstrated a tight convex lower pole – a neat but voluminous curve."

The study will allow women to spell out to cosmetic surgeons the exact dimensions they want to achieve from their breast enhancement surgery.

“Now we can show women images to highlight shape and form that will actually give them what they want,' Mr Mallucci added.

As violence in Iraq’s Baghdad continues to subside, the beauty industry, including cosmetic surgery, hair removal and hair and make-up services, is beginning to flourish once again.

Bombings have reduced significantly since Iraq was invaded over eight years ago and then-President Saddam Hussein's regime was overthrown. The country is now slowly building its economy back up again, mainly using oil industry profits.

Those in the industry report that Iraqi women are now indulging themselves more in health and beauty treatments as sanctions on them lift. Reports suggest that Iraqi women now often walk around without wearing the hijab or traditional headdress, particularly in members’ clubs or less religiously strict areas.

Saba Al-Hussein, a laser expert in the Al-Shabakah beauty centre in central Baghdad, left Iraq in 2006 and returned in 2009. She learned how to use a cosmetic laser for laser hair removal whilst living in Lebanon. She told Arabnews.com, “There are bad things that happened, but the person should take advantage of them for the best. We ran away from Iraq, but leaving turned out to be useful. The sectarian period helped me, I went abroad and became an expert in laser.”

Lebanon is typically where many Iraqi women look to for the latest trends and ideals in beauty and fashion. A Lebanese doctor who has been contracted to practice at a cosmetic surgery clinic in Baghdad told the Arabnews.com website that women in Iraq are increasingly requesting cosmetic procedures such as laser hair removal and cosmetic surgery to rejuvenate their skin.

Film star Michelle Pfeiffer has spoken out in support of cosmetic surgery recently.

Although she isn’t thought to have had any procedures done herself yet, the 53-year-old has commented that she wouldn’t be against it in principle.

In an interview for the latest issue of Elle magazine, Pfeiffer said, “'I’m all for a little something here and there – fine.” She added, “'It doesn’t matter to me if people have plastic surgery or they don’t, or if they do Botox.”

However, she went on to say that she doesn’t feel that people should go too far with cosmetic surgery. She said she would class this as when people don’t look like themselves anymore, which she called “kind of sad”.

She did add, though, that even if she was uncomfortable with someone else’s look after surgery, it was that they were happy that was the important thing.

The actress, who is married to screenwriter and producer, David E. Kelley, gave the comments for Elle’s Women in Hollywood 2011 edition.

The issue of cosmetic surgery has been discussed by a number of female stars recently. Actress Courtney Thorne-Smith said she was not ashamed of the fact that she has had Botox. She said it wasn’t a secret and she was happy with the results.

Similarly, X Factor judge Kelly Rowland spoke out about how she does not regret the breast enlargement surgery she underwent. She said she had thought it over carefully for ten years after getting sick of having “little nuggets for boobs”.

Preliminary industry-funded research suggests that a gel based on the active ingredient of the injectable Botox wrinkle treatment could help reduce the lines around the eyes known as crow’s feet — without the pain of needles.

The effects of the gel, which uses botulinum toxin, last for about four months, comparable to that produced by Botox injections, the researchers said.

The new study is encouraging since it showed that the gel “noticeably softened crow’s feet,” said study author Dr. Michael Kane, a plastic surgeon at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York City. He has served as an investigator and consultant to Revance Therapeutics of Mountain View, Calif., the gel maker that has been trying to develop a Botox alternative for several years. (more…)

Monday to me is generally Smile Busy – Dental toothache days. Yes they queue, beg at reception they’ve toothache all weekend, had co-codamol, paracetamol, wine and a night out but it still hurts.

Why? Because in general the people that attend with severe toothache are these that haven’t been to a dentist for years and that’s people, when it’s going to cost you money.

A smile is priceless – to maintain is very little and so so important. A recent survey by My face My body states that 24% of brits would like to improve their smile, ask all those kids I treated 10 years ago – who refuse to have a brace and I told them ‘listen you’ll be back at 21 paying lots of money to straighten them, and what happens – your all back…

Totally agree – lip enhancement and augmentation really does make patients look younger, feel better and most of all gives them the confidence to smile.

I’ve used all types of lip fillers, Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm. However, I always use a semi- permanent one – for example, one that doesn’t last forever. Why? Simple, a lip enhancement or augmentation should be produced to be in harmony with the rest of the face, to look natural.

We all age, whatever magical treatments, lotions, potions or surgery we may have – age is inevitable. So a set of lips placed permanently at the age of 21 may not look quite as good at 50! Think about it – Jackie Stallone.

But looking and feeling good are qualities that are difficult to measure. A measuring tape or ruler cannot be held up against one person and then compared to another. Whilst there are people who are employed to try and do such things, such as in the media, it is only their opinion or a collective view of a very small number of similar thinking people, who make that judgement and then try and impose it on others. As the old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

At a subjective level people compare and contrast all sorts of things but their comparative basis is premised on what they have believe, have been shown, and perhaps learnt as what beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In turn, this view is then modified by friends, colleagues, and influenced by the media, marketing and a range of other influencing factors.

For example, we all know what it feels like if you find someone attractive that none of friends claim they would look twice at. It takes a very special type of person to stand out from the crowd and “be different”, particularly given in certain contexts it could alienate them. Like it or not, most people confirm to a broad range of societal norms for a range of reasons including popularity, self preservation, work and on occasion, even survival. In truth, the person you are attracted to, is often attractive to your friends, who are not prepared to say anything to maximise their own chances!

However, the perceptions of beauty people hold are also continually changing at unconscious levels when they see other things that they perceive, and then believe, are more beautiful. The fact that experience and learning all give varying and different insights into familiar things makes re-appraising an ongoing feature of human life. The fact that it does not always happen often at a conscious level just shows how clever the brain is.

But is beauty just about perception? Are our beauty ratings and scales just a visual issue? Do people with visual impairment rate beauty the same as sighted people do? Are there other aspects that humans use to determine beauty such as touch? When attracted to something that looks nice, we often touch it to reinforce our initial assessment. We then go and make comparisons with other things in the same category and change our ratings accordingly.

Further, any notion of beauty is reinforced by factors such as family, friends or the media – all of whom hold a varying degree of influence over our perceptions of what is good looking.

So how does this impact on you and whether you want to use aesthetical enhancements?

Well, let’s start by looking in the mirror. Do you like what you see? If you do, then great, but probably you will be able to make some (or several) negative comments about your appearance be it your clothes, figure, state of your teeth, your smile, the fact that the odd nip and tuck would make you feel so much better!

The first thing is that you need to want to change. It is no good someone else telling you, no matter how much you respect their view. If you don’t want to do it then the chances of undergoing any change and making it last are limited. Remember those pounds you promised yourself you were going to lose so you could get into that dress or swimsuit? If you have kept your new weight for at least 12 months give yourself a pat on the back. If you are still on the way, well done, keep going. But in many cases you probably have given up on what you believe was over ambitious challenge or not achievable, aided and abetted by the likes of chocolate bars or whatever your vice may be.

If you could change just one of these negatives into a positive e.g. put on your best dress or jacket, replace your flat shoes with heels, the chances are you will start to feel much better about yourself. If your partner or friend is around and they give you positive comments and compliments the “changed you” then you will feel even better.
But whilst there are some aspects of you that can be changed relatively easily, some of the others may require the intervention of professionals such as dentists or surgeons and will, most likely incur cost. But do not despair! The most effective change starts with small steps that are sequentially built on and in this way they are generally more lasting. A bit like losing weight, the first few pounds you shed encourages you to continue.

Back to the physical changes you could have done to yourself, what is it you want to achieve. Why do you feel that what nature gave you needs changing? The reasons can be several fold but ultimately it is up to you – it is your body after all!
