The current RSI reading is approaching the January low, while the negative DMI reading is approaching the January peak. Looking at the chart for possible support points, there is moderate support at around 120, and then again at 110. I don't see a major support point until 100, where it was well established from November through April. A drop to $100 would certainly do a world of good for the U.S. economy.

Trade 4 Cash is selling another winner this morning, making it 9 out of 10 now. However, many of its current holdings, particularly in the energy sector, are dropping. So overall, the system fell another 2.93% on Wednesday. Still, it has gained 8.70% over the past week.

Have a great day!

My Market Strength Meter is starting to show some signs of strengthening, although it has a long way to go to even think about canceling the current Bear Alert. The Wilshire 5000 needs to get up to a level of around 13370 to reach a 50% retracement of its recent downward move. Still, the RSI(14) is getting ready to cross above 50, and Wilder's DMI/ADX is closing in on an initial bullish reversal signal.

The Trade 4 Cash system pulled back 2.05% on Tuesday, most due to the drop of its current energy holdings. Oil continues its slide, as Hurricane Dolly stayed south and west of the majority of platforms in the gulf. The weekly energy report comes out this morning, so this could have a big impact on which way oil heads for the rest of the week.

Trade 4 Cash has 5 signals today - 2 sells and 3 buys. One of its buy signals yesterday did not trigger, as the stock stayed above the signal's limit price. Trade 4 Cash is on a hot streak right now, as 8 out of its last 10 closed trades have been winners.

Futures are positive so far this morning. Have a great Wednesday!

Oil has sold off over the past few days, and the BPI is back down below 20. Things could get interesting again this week, however, as the tropics are starting to get more active. Any disruption to oil and gas activities in the Gulf of Mexico will most likely send crude back upward. How that affects the overall market, we'll have to wait and see.

The market had a flat day on Friday, but the Trade 4 Cash system picked up 5 percent on the day. The system bought HEV at the open, then later sold it for a 10 percent profit, as the stock hit its profit target. In addition to the HEV sale, there are three new trade signals for Monday. Trade 4 Cash has gained 7 percent over the past week, as is looking to extend its 3 day winning streak. Have a great Monday!

Yesterday's candle broke through the current steep downtrend , on very good volume. Also the Wilder's ADX line has flattened out, which is a signal that the bearish trend has been halted for now. And very impressively, the RSI(14) has shot up close to 50, which is a medium-term dividing line between bearish and bullish. So all-in-all, the landscape has changed over the last two days. There's nothing to say that the trend won't turn around again to retest the recent lows, but at least for now the steep downtrend has been broken.

The Trade 4 Cash system has 10 new signals for today. It is using yesterday's strength to sell five of its current holdings, and is buying five new stocks. The system has gained about 5 percent over the last two days, and is looking to extend its upward rebound today. Have a great Friday!

The Wilshire 5000 gained 2.53% on the day, and the NASDAQ Bullish Percent Index had an up day for the first time in a month. The Trade 4 Cash system picked up 2.15% on Wednesday, and has gained 2.41% over the past 5 days. The system has stabilized. Now it's time for it to start heading back north.

We have two trade signals for today. The question now is, 'She was a nice squeeze, but does she have legs?' So far, this morning's futures look pretty strong. Have a great Thursday!

Sellers were quick to move in and see Monday's higher open as an opportunity to dump more positions.

The VIX is accelerating upward, and is one spike away from reaching January and March's peaks. The Trade 4 Cash system has one pair of buy-sell signals for today. Have a great Tuesday, and "Let's be careful out there."

The market's wild roller coaster ride culminated in a panic selling capitulation Friday morning, followed by a mild recovery later in the day. Market futures are up sharply this morning, so it appears that we will get a bounce early this week. How high and how long any bounce will last is anybody's guess, however, as there are still a lot of issues out there for traders to worry about.

The Trade 4 Cash system began it's recovery last week, as well, picking up 3.57% for the week. The system is selling two winners this morning, and buying two new stocks. It is still holding some sizable losers, however, so the system's performance chart may drop a bit more as these losers are sold, before it heads back upward. Have a great Monday!

The Trade 4 Cash system actually managed to pull out a 1.41% gain, however, as it is holding several energy-related stocks right now.

The Wilshire 5000 is pausing at this level. It is see-sawing back and forth across the 12,800 mark, and futures again look positive so far this morning. We have no new signals for Thursday, but there are three stocks in the High Energy Watch List. Have a great day!

It's Time to Buy.

It's no secret that the energy sector has been the leadership group of 2008. But recently this sector's Bullish Percent Index reading has fallen off a cliff - from a reading of around 67 on July 1, to a current reading of 17.65. In other words, only 17.65% of stocks in the energy sector are currently bullish. That's an amazing stat if you think about it. Energy has been stealing all of the headlines, and oil is still at $136 per barrel, yet the sector is overwhelming bearish as-of this morning.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LOfkXbL1fAY/SHSXuA2-YjI/AAAAAAAAB4w/Fae1Oti2avQ/s320/ENERGYBPI.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220964684789604914" />But such drops in the BPI are not unusual for this sector. Looking back over the past 3 years, in fact, it is almost commonplace. In January of this year, Energy's BPI reading fell all the way down below 10. It has fallen to around 20 or below several times, and in similar dramatic fashion. But, as you can see, it has always rebounded just as quickly. This morning there are renewed tensions in the Middle East, and the weekly energy report comes out at 10:30 a.m. EDT. Watch closely. This could be a great buying opportunity.

We have two signals this morning. Trade 4 Cash is selling a rebound winner, and buying an alternative energy stock. Have a great Wednesday!

Yesterday it closed at 12,842.33. I've been talking about a possible bounce all week, and today may be the moment of truth. Today's jobs report just may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Or it may provide a spark strong enough to stop the bleeding and turn this thing around, at least for now.

Yesterday was brutal. The Trade 4 Cash system got hammered, and Tier 1 Steady MV and Wave Rider took small losses. Those two systems are selling their last remaining stocks today, and are now in 100% cash, as is SCMV Weekly.

How bad has the market been lately? Last week I posted the sector list, showing that Energy was the only sector showing a gain over the past month. Well, as-of this morning, even energy is barely holding on, with a scant 0.1% gain over the past month. Below is a complete list of all sectors, as shown on www.stockfetcher.com. Looking over the past year, Energy and Metals are the only sectors in the green, although Metals got hit hard yesterday.

The market is closed Friday in observance of Independence Day. It dropped at the open to test the March lows, then reversed course to close up at the end of the day. On close glance, yesterday's candle looks like a reversal candle.

But the morning's drop didn't quite get down to the March lows. And the afternoon reversal was not quite as spirited as I had hoped. More stocks still declined than advanced. And there are no High Energy Breakout stocks today. So I'm skeptical. Futures are positive so far this morning. But I'm just not so sure that we still don't need to get down to those March lows. Either way, I'll follow my signals. I just wanted to see a more dramatic reversal.

Again, we have no new signals for the day. The Trade 4 Cash system has dropped 4% over the past 2 days, and is now sitting at a 20% drawdown. 20 to 25 percent drawdowns are not uncommon for this system, but drawdowns of this magnitude usually mark a turnaround. It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds. Have a great Wednesday!

The Wilshire 5000 did not test its March lows, and it did not stage any significant bounce. The way this morning's futures look, however, we may be testing the March lows at the open today, or shortly after. If we do, then the questions is, "Where do we go from here?"

I haven't posted the NASDAQ Bullish Percent Index chart for awhile. This chart shows the percentage of stocks in the NASDAQ are currently bullish in terms of their Point-and-Figure charts. As you can see, back in March this reading approached 20 percent, which is a very low reading. It's currently sitting at 32.5 percent, so it still has a ways to go to reach the low point in March. This would suggest that more pain is certain.

But if you look at the RSI and the MACD indicators, they have already surpassed March's low readings. This is somewhat of a divergence, and may suggest that a short-term bottom is near, and we are, in fact, due for a bounce. I'm not suggesting that a long-term uptrend is in the works, but for short-term traders, some good money can be made during these 'dead-cat' bounces. We shall see.

There are no new signals today, as the systems are waiting to see what happens today. Have a good Tuesday!

Friday's action was again negative overall, although I did find something interesting. Friday produced the longest list of Hot Stocks in recent weeks on this blog, as well as one of the longest lists of High Energy breakout stocks on the member site. I don't know what exactly that means. Short squeezes? Some traders getting a jump on an early week bounce this week? I do think we could be in for some sort of a bounce. Watch Monday's action. If we test the March lows during the morning, then finish the day in the black, a short-term bounce would definitely be in the cards for at least a few days. Of course, if we break below the previous lows, and finish below March's low closing price, it could be "Katy, bar the door."

We have 4 signals for Monday. Trade 4 Cash has a buy-sell combination, while Tier 1 Steady MV and SCMV Weekly have one sell each. SCMV Weekly is now sitting with 100% cash. Have a good Monday!

Tier 1 Steady MV and Wave Rider are each selling another holding. Tier 1 Steady MV is down to 3 stocks, and Wave Rider is now down to 2. Trade 4 Cash has another buy-sell combination this morning.

A quick look at the sectors tells a very clear story about what is hot and what is not. The table below shows the top 10 sectors over the past month. Energy is the only sector that shows a positive gain over that time. It has also gained a whopping 40% over the past 3 months! But if you haven't been in energy, you have most likely been struggling lately.

Have a great weekend!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LOfkXbL1fAY/SGTRnklI5UI/AAAAAAAAB4I/68HbCUn9WZQ/s400/SECTORS06-27-08.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216524746166428994" />

Yesterday's strength gave the systems good opportunities to sell their stocks at resonable prices, and the day's strong performance reflects that. Tier 1 Steady MV gained 1.28% on the day, while Wave Rider gained 1.51%.

The Wilshire 5000 is still mired in a steep downtrend, and yesterday's mini-rally did nothing to break through that. Until the index can break though this trendline, we can't even think about starting to push the Market Meter higher again.

We have three more signals this morning. Tier 1 Steady MV is selling one more, and is now down to 4 stocks. Trade 4 Cash is selling a winner this morning, and picking up a new stock. Have a great Thursday!
