I love Season Two! There’s some fun stories that I forgot about. The Dinobots’ make many appearances and who doesn’t love a heaping helping of Grimlock’s confuzzled yet somehow lucid ramblings?

Likes:

The menus animations / transformations are pretty cool but the set is a no frill, no nonsense, no extras kind of deal. It lets you jump right into the content and doesn’t make you search for it. One feature that I really enjoyed was the ‘play multi-part episodes seamlessly’ option. It does as the name implies and saves you from watching the animated introduction the full 28 times.

Disappointments:

When Season One released it came with a large Autobot refrigerator magnet, I really hoped that season two would package a Decepticon magnet. Nope, no luck.

Conclusion:

If you love G1, and I know you do, this is a good buy. The quality is *SO* much better than others I have seen. I checked a couple of episodes on YouTube just to compare side by side and it’s a big difference. It retails for $29.99 but I just looked it up and you can get it for ~$17 at Wal-Mart. It is WELL worth the price and I highly recommend you grab it next time you’re out!

Hey hey! We’ve been selected to give away some great prizes to our awesome community!

The PRIZES

We will be giving away one of each of the following:

Transformers Universe GI Series Optimus Prime 25th Anniversary Pack with DVD

The original Optimus Prime is back! Includes a DVD and a graphic novel. Speaks phrases straight from the initial television show. It’s the Optimus you know and love! The original, die-cast Optimus Prime is back! Based on the earliest toy from 1984, this amazing recreation updates his coloring to look just like he did in the initial cartoon series. Able to transform from truck to robot and back again, this new old Autobot leader truly is more than meets the eye. His firing missiles are here, as are his trailer, traditional gun, and little buddy Roller. What’s more, the original More than Meets the Eye animated miniseries is included on DVD, along with the 1st few issues of the classic Marvel comic book! Bringing the hero to life even more is an electronic voice box that speaks phrases straight from the initial television show. Unbelievable! Requires 3x ‘AA’ batteries, included. Stands about 6-inches tall in robot mode.

THE TRANSFORMERS: SEASON TWO, VOLUME ONE

With the help of their human friends Spike, Sparkplug, Chip and Carlee, the AUTOBOTS search for the fuel necessary to send them home and reenergize their planet of CYBERTRON. But if the DECEPTICONS seize their energy source first, the entire universe may suffer the consequences under the reign of the malevolent MEGATRON!
There were more robots, less spastic quick cuts, better dialog (but still cheesy), and a general tone that felt–dare I say–very much like the old cartoons.

Really, it’s what started most of us on this path. I was a kid and these robots that changed shapes fascinated me. They stole my imagination and I loved everything about them. With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming out soon, watching the complete first season was a great trip down memory lane.

Watching these again from the beginning made me remember why I loved these cartoons in the first place. The classic battle of good vs. evil, Optimus Prime (and his stupid trailer) and just the general cheesiness of it all.

The set has the entire G1 original series and some great extras. The Origins of the Transformers, a printable script (very cool!), a PSA from tv at that time, some old Hasbro commercials, etc. I haven’t even made it through all of it yet but I can’t wait to dig deeper.

Quality:

Wow. About a year ago I watched the original series again on sites like youtube, etc. The quality was ridiculously bad. Watching it again in this release made such a difference! It has a stereo soundtrack which makes a big difference, especially for the Tranformers sound! It looks pretty dang good considering it’s 25 year old animation. As good as you remember and very easy to watch quality wise.

Packaging:

The packaging looks great and when I unwrapped it I couldn’t have been happier! The Autobot logo (as big as a DVD) was a great surprise. The raised images of Optimus Prime and Megatron look great and everything else looks legitimately good. There is nothing cheap about this set.

Wrap it up:

With feature films coming out like G.I. Joe and a second Transformers movie, taking this walk down memory lane was a great diversion and an excellent way to get amped for the next batch of movies that take me back to my childhood! I recommend this set for our community here over the previous versions that were released (crap). I know our members here LOVE G1 and everything it was about, this DVD will not leave you wanting!

Robots have their disagreements too, and sometimes the only way to settle them is with an epic brawl for the ages.

Michael Bell, the G1 voice actor for Prowl and Swoop is asking for fans’ help!

“To all my Transformer buds,

I recently directed a demo for a series of motion graphic “Transformers” comics which could be downloaded via iPhone, iTouch, and other outlets. Many talented professional actors provided the voices for the characters in the demo including myself. The plan was to present it to IDW Comics who had shown more then a passing interest in this budding new concept. With a go ahead on producing the series, I would be employing the talents of as many of the original voices from the early series as possible. I had already cleared this with my fellow “Transformers” actors, and everyone was waiting in the wings for the response from the powers at IDW comics.

After months of mulling over it, they ultimately passed on the idea, and surprise surprise, decided to produce their own graphic motion novel without the voices or even the superbly heightened animation. So, essentially what you now have the ability to download is a plain old comic book.

Nothing new there.

Soooooo, I am taking my request to the troops. To all the die hard fans who I have met over the years at Botcon conventions, or who have written to me asking about my experiences working on one of the most inventive animated series in TV history- I need your help! I am requesting that you do something for me and my fellow actors, so we can in-turn do something really cool for you.

Please contact IDW and let them know that their concept of a series of comic books based on “Transformers” WITHOUT the talents of voice actors, especially many of the original voices, just doesn’t cut it.

Please ask them to contract Creative Producers Chris Folino and William Katt, and make a deal for them to produce their concept of a downloadable graphic motion comic series of “Transformers” with professional actors, progressive animation, and lotsa sound effects.

On behalf of all those actors, animators, and studio techs that will get an opportunity to carry on a great tradition,

I thank you,
Michael “Prowl/Swoop” Bell”

(Here’s a link to what the motion comics would look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH83gbGcCnE&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eallspark%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded)
