“Take everything you like seriously, except yourselves.”
~ Rudyard Kipling

I think I take myself too seriously. My husband has commented on it a few times and I think it has a lot to do with my mood swings. I have to learn not to take everything, especially myself, too seriously. I guess I’m too serious for my own good sometimes. It’s just that I’ve had a lot of bad things happen and I have the tendency to become pessimistic. I call myself a pessimistic optimist because no matter how bad things get I can always find the silver lining. I try my best to see the good in people while keeping in mind that there are a lot of bad things out there and I have to watch out for myself. And the most important thing is that I always remind myself that there are so many people out there who are less fortunate than I am. I love my life. I have a wonderful husband who loves me and whom I love back with my whole heart. We have two dogs who are just the sweetest. My family and in-laws are all in good health. We have a roof over our heads and a stocked fridge and pantry. We have clothes on our back. There are so many things to be thankful for…

How do you find your own personal peace/nirvana?
I read. It’s the most relaxing way for me to pass the time. I can just escape from my worries for a little while.

Where do you go to find respite and solace? Is there a particular place, city, country, room in your house?
The library. Being surrounded by books is like heaven for me.

Who is the most peace-loving person you know? What makes them so?
My mom. She always tries her best to help everyone get along.

What do you do when your inner peace is threatened? Do you have a strategy, a routine, religious faith, a mantra……to calm yourself down?
I just take a deep breath. More often than not, I retreat into my shell. I know that’s not the best way to deal with it but I’m working on it.

What is your favorite comfort food?
Chewy chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.

Do you have a pet that brings you happiness and peace? If not, what type of animals bring you peaceful thoughts?
Dogs. I’ve always loved dogs. I’m so glad we have such sweet dogs… They always make me happy.

What is your favorite peace song?
I’m not sure what you mean by a “peace” song but I’ve always found Christopher Cross songs incredibly soothing.

Did you post a peace globe on November 5th and participate in BlogBlast For Peace?
No. This is the first time I’ve heard of it. Maybe next year?

My dad used to drive a motorcycle and he absolutely loved it. He even drove me to school on his big Harley a few times. I remember getting off the bike and my knees were like jelly. I didn’t have that much faith in my dad’s driving skills because he had just gotten his driver’s license renewed after almost a decade! He was more than a little rusty. It was a good thing my school was less than ten minutes away. Jim thought about getting a motorcycle before but after telling him about the terrible accidents that used to occur almost everyday in the cities, he wrote that off. *whew. I was so relieved. That’s why if you do own a bike it’s so important to have motorcycle insurance. No matter how careful you are, there are plenty of drivers out there who are a lot less careful. You don’t want to put your life (or your loved ones) in their hands.

Getting motorbike insurance can be a real hassle. If you live in the United Kingdom, Bennetts does the work for you. They search from a panel of 13 insurance companies to get you the best price possible. According to an online independent study by Consumer Intelligence during April 2009, 60% of bikers can save with Bennetts. Their call center is also based in the U.K. so you’re sure to get great customer service. They have a great 24 hour claims team that will help you in case you get into an accident.

They are offering a free winter breakdown so be sure to take advantage of it. New customers who purchase annual breakdown cover and existing customers who add annual breakdown cover to their existing Bennetts policy at renewal are eligible for this offer. Visit their website and get a quote for bike insurance now! You can also get biking tips and advice at the site.

What are the most important things you learned from your father?
Most of the things I learned from my father fall on my “what not to do” list. First and foremost, never drink more than you can handle. If you don’t want to drink and friends try to make you drink, DON’T give in. Becoming an alcoholic does not only hurt your family and friends, it hurts your own self more. Second, don’t take your family for granted because in the end, they’re all you have. They’re the only ones who will stand by you when everything falls apart so treat them well. Lastly, don’t buy things you can’t afford. Buy what you need rather than what you want. And DON’T buy or order things before you have your paycheck in your hands. There are a lot more things I can add to this list but I prefer not to dwell on it. If I can, I want to preserve the good memories I have of my dad especially now that I live so far away from him.

Thursday Thunks

Mad Cow disease, Bird Flu, Swine Flu…what barnyard animal will cause the next big outbreak of disease?
Sheep?

Sesame Street turns 40 this month. If you were to be on Sesame Street, which character would you want to be in a scene with?
The Cookie Monster — if he decides to share his cookies with me.

We are out shopping for a new laptop. Which one do you pick and why?
The one with a big screen and monster processor optimized for web and graphic design — I’ll probably stick with Windows though, rather than a Mac (though having one would be sweet!).

Have you ever dried a flower in a book (pressing)? If so what was the flower and the name of the book?
Yes, a few times. I didn’t want to ruin any of my books so I usually do it in a notebook or one of my journals.

Do you think it’s important to study other planets? If so, why or why not?
Yes, the possibility of extraterrestrial life in other planets or galaxies has always fascinated me. It’s a reminder of our own insignificance. We’re just a speck in the universe.

Have you ever walked out of a movie at the theater? What was the movie, how much was the ticket and why did you walk out?
No, I don’t think so. I usually try to find out as much as I can about a movie — without spoilers — before I see it at a theater.

Does the city/town you live in have traffic enforcement cameras? Have you ever gotten a citation/ticket/fine from one? If so, did you pay or fight it?
I’m not sure, I believe so. I’ve never gotten a ticket because I haven’t learned how to drive yet — hopefully once I do get my driver’s license, I’ll never get a ticket. I plan on following every traffic rule. I’d prefer not to get into any trouble.

If your neighbor is having a baby would you buy a baby gift for them?
Probably not. Unless we get invited to a baby shower or something. We’re not close to any of our neighbors.

How many questions are too many questions?
It depends on how much time I have to answer them.

Do you have a handwritten journal you write in everyday?
Not anymore.

Have you already made plans for 2010?
My husband and I are hoping to visit my family for a few weeks.

Thursday Thunks has a huge party for all those who play along each week. Where is the party, how long does it last and does Kimber fall off the roof dropping crayons? If so, what color of crayon does she fall on?
Location: The World Wide Web. Duration: All day. Yes, Kimber might fall off the roof on a Blue crayon (because that’s my favorite color).

We may have “blogger celebrity” questions in the near future. Are you excited?
I’m not sure what that means but YES! :D

I’ve always thought India was interesting. My dad has been there before and he had some great stories from his trip which he still loves to share from time to time. I love the sarees. There are so many beautiful designs. I found an online store that sells them. UTSAV is India’s only online fashion store. They sell various clothing including designer fashion Sarees, embroidered fancy Salwar Kameez, Lehnga Cholis, Tunics, traditional Wedding accessories, handbags, footwear, scarves, and belts. UTSAV is also a great choice for Jewelry Shopping India. They offer discounts for online customers and also do custom designs not only for the average consumer but also for local celebrities (famous Bollywood actresses)!

Why you should shop with them:

You can shop in the comfort of your own home and have your order delivered to your doorstep.

They have a live-support chat system and phone support. No automated or outsourced system.

They have excellent service and offer deals without a catch (no fine print).

They have a huge selection so you can be sure to find something you like.

They accept multiple payment methods: Google Checkout, Paypal, COD, Net banking, etc.

They do not use sweat shops or child labor.

You will be contributing to a rich culture by supporting traditional arts and fashion.
