I think I take myself too seriously. My husband has commented on it a few times and I think it has a lot to do with my mood swings. I have to learn not to take everything, especially myself, too seriously. I guess I’m too serious for my own good sometimes. It’s just that I’ve had a lot of bad things happen and I have the tendency to become pessimistic. I call myself a pessimistic optimist because no matter how bad things get I can always find the silver lining. I try my best to see the good in people while keeping in mind that there are a lot of bad things out there and I have to watch out for myself. And the most important thing is that I always remind myself that there are so many people out there who are less fortunate than I am. I love my life. I have a wonderful husband who loves me and whom I love back with my whole heart. We have two dogs who are just the sweetest. My family and in-laws are all in good health. We have a roof over our heads and a stocked fridge and pantry. We have clothes on our back. There are so many things to be thankful for…

How do you find your own personal peace/nirvana?
I read. It’s the most relaxing way for me to pass the time. I can just escape from my worries for a little while.
Where do you go to find respite and solace? Is there a particular place, city, country, room in your house?
The library. Being surrounded by books is like heaven for me.
Who is the most peace-loving person you know? What makes them so?
My mom. She always tries her best to help everyone get along.
What do you do when your inner peace is threatened? Do you have a strategy, a routine, religious faith, a mantra……to calm yourself down?
I just take a deep breath. More often than not, I retreat into my shell. I know that’s not the best way to deal with it but I’m working on it.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Chewy chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
Do you have a pet that brings you happiness and peace? If not, what type of animals bring you peaceful thoughts?
Dogs. I’ve always loved dogs. I’m so glad we have such sweet dogs… They always make me happy.

I’m not sure what you mean by a “peace” song but I’ve always found Christopher Cross songs incredibly soothing.

No. This is the first time I’ve heard of it. Maybe next year?

What are the most important things you learned from your father?
Most of the things I learned from my father fall on my “what not to do” list. First and foremost, never drink more than you can handle. If you don’t want to drink and friends try to make you drink, DON’T give in. Becoming an alcoholic does not only hurt your family and friends, it hurts your own self more. Second, don’t take your family for granted because in the end, they’re all you have. They’re the only ones who will stand by you when everything falls apart so treat them well. Lastly, don’t buy things you can’t afford. Buy what you need rather than what you want. And DON’T buy or order things before you have your paycheck in your hands. There are a lot more things I can add to this list but I prefer not to dwell on it. If I can, I want to preserve the good memories I have of my dad especially now that I live so far away from him.

The one with a big screen and monster processor optimized for web and graphic design — I’ll probably stick with Windows though, rather than a Mac (though having one would be sweet!).
Have you ever dried a flower in a book (pressing)? If so what was the flower and the name of the book?
Yes, a few times. I didn’t want to ruin any of my books so I usually do it in a notebook or one of my journals.
Do you think it’s important to study other planets? If so, why or why not?
Yes, the possibility of extraterrestrial life in other planets or galaxies has always fascinated me. It’s a reminder of our own insignificance. We’re just a speck in the universe.
Have you ever walked out of a movie at the theater? What was the movie, how much was the ticket and why did you walk out?
No, I don’t think so. I usually try to find out as much as I can about a movie — without spoilers — before I see it at a theater.
Does the city/town you live in have traffic enforcement cameras? Have you ever gotten a citation/ticket/fine from one? If so, did you pay or fight it?
I’m not sure, I believe so. I’ve never gotten a ticket because I haven’t learned how to drive yet — hopefully once I do get my driver’s license, I’ll never get a ticket. I plan on following every traffic rule. I’d prefer not to get into any trouble.
If your neighbor is having a baby would you buy a baby gift for them?
Probably not. Unless we get invited to a baby shower or something. We’re not close to any of our neighbors.
How many questions are too many questions?
It depends on how much time I have to answer them.

Not anymore.

My husband and I are hoping to visit my family for a few weeks.
