Road Safety Fact (Road Safety Manual, DPWH):

Studies have shown that the three contributing factors in motor vehicle crashes are:

human factors (which are involved in around 95% of crashes);
road environment factors (which are involved in some 28% of crashes); and
vehicle factors (which are involved in some 8% of crashes).

I've been a transport engineer for quite some time but I haven't been informed very much about cars or vehicles. What a big gap in knowledge considering that vehicles constitute one third of the road environment (drivers/human, road, and vehicle)!

But I'm glad that there are opportunities to learn through friends who have been generous and patient in teaching me.

Dear avid readers,

Happy New Year!!!

Last 2011 has been a year of challenges as well as improvements in the transport sector. A year to tear down (U-turns) and to build up (motorcycle lanes). A total of 20 posts were published here related to transport or traffic. Last year marked more knowledge as Engineer Einjel was given a great opportunity to observe the transportation system of Korea, <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/TransportationEngineeringPhilippines/~4/yThDBgWySzQ" height="1" width="1"/>

Reflections

The past two weeks has been a roller coaster of being here and there.. of seeing the government sector's top and even lower levels of transport management, planning and design. How I wish I could replicate myself to meet the technical needs of our country. There's so much to be done. There are more provincial engineers who need assistance and coaching in terms of road design/engineering.
