A demain soir, 21h30!

It’s is important to plan to ensure that we maintain our standard of living despite what life may through at us. In the case of a friend of mine he is in the planning phase of preparing for a zombie apocalypse. It’s something that weighs heavy on his mind and he decided it was time to make a proactive movement towards making sure he can get them before they can get him.

I have to admit that I would be a noon time snack for a Zombie since I have done nothing to educate, or prepare, myself for their coming. However my friend has a vast amount of knowledge on the subject and therefore has provided me with some direction. It turns out that in order to protect oneself from a Zombie you need to sever the Zombie’s brain from the body. Apparently you don’t want to miss with the attempt as things apparently get real ugly. It appears that a shotgun serves this purpose very well however certain situations sometimes dictate the need for a different method. After some exhaustive research my friend I came up with the Zombie Bat concept. The design is really quite simple and it includes a 20 inch blade mounted to a Louisville Slugger. The idea is that the zombies can be dealt with at close range while the living, which is after the food supply, can be beat away with the other end without causing death. It’s all about safety.

Since this is a relatively new and revolutionary step in weapons design we felt as though a proto type was in order. After rummaging through his garage my friend emerged with a well used baseball bat. So with the bat in hand, a Sharpie, and a chunk of cardboard the design team went to work carefully calculating out the required specifications. With the raw material collected and the blueprint complete there was nothing left to do but create.

Using the cardboard template as a rough guideline a basic shape was plasma cut from .125” mild low carbon steel (not using blade worthy carbon steel for the prototype) The edges were sanded and a basic form was produced.

The milling machine was used to notch the bat out to accept the blade. Using a .250” end mill a 1.75” deep hole was milled into the bat in 2 spots. The bat was then cross drilled to accept the hardware for securing the blade. A .750” router bit was used to create a step in the cross drilled holes in order to allow the soon to be machined spacer something to clamp onto.

The spacer’s used to secure the blade were spun from 1” 6061 aluminum. They were stepped in order to allow both the blade and the wood to be clamped down. They were threaded to accept a 6mm socket head bolt and then countersunk to allow for flush mounting of the head.

With the bat assembled some test swinging could be made. Although the blade makes the weapon a little top heavy with a bit of practice, and technique, some good follow through inertia can be had. Although this is only a proto type with the blade left unsharpened this first unit would still buy you a few more survival minutes then if you didn’t have it.

Redditor JonXP made this wicked "Princess Vader" costume at his five year old daughter's request: "I painted the helmet, and sewed the cape (my first sewing project ever). It was fun to put together."

In an excellent homage to Ghostbusters II, Eric used Processing and a Kinect to create a Vigo portrait with eyes that follow you as you pass by. With a little Photoshop help from his coworkers, Eric created this interactive display in just one day for his company’s Halloween-themed open house. It looks like a lot of fun, but just remember, “he is Vigo!
Ford Motor Co. will soon sell brand-new 1965 Ford Mustangs for just $15,000 each. The only hitch: There's some assembly required.

As part of its Ford Reproduction business, Ford revealed today it had approved a new stamping of the steel bodies for first-generation Mustang that buyers could then build into their own 1964 1/2 through 1966 Mustang, using whatever engine, axles, interior and other parts they can find on their own.

I wonder why Ford doesn't also offer the 1965 Mustang, fully-made? Surely they'd sell a bunch at any reasonable price.

Nerf has long shifted its focus to dart guns (“blasters”) away from its classic products like foam footballs — and they’ve put out some great products along the way. With their fall line, they have introduced a series of toys including a premium electrically powered gun that captures a lot of interest… er, from dads‚ as well as kids! But what sets them apart from previous lines is the ammunition. Nerf’s Vortex blasters, which debuted in September, shoot rubber discs instead of darts.

Let me break down the line for you:

Proton

The basic blaster, the Proton, holds and shoots a single disc.

Vigilon

A bigger pistol-sized blaster, the Vigilon features a built-in, snap-out magazine that holds 5 or 6 discs. You cock the Vigilon my least favorite Nerf way, with the pump above the wrist. However, this wasn’t enough to make me dislike the blaster.

Praxis

I like the third blaster, Praxis, because it features an actual clip (it comes with a 10-shot, but you can use the Nitron’s 20-shot clip in it if you want. It includes a standard Nerf detachable stock and features all the requisite “tactical rails” that hold Nerf-standard sights and lights. The pump underneath the barrel is primed for ripping out a whole bunch of discs.

Nitron

This magnificent beast represents Nerf’s “premium” blaster for the season. The Nitron packs a battery-powered firing mechanism and giant 20-disc clip that will keep the office co-workers and neighborhood kids in check. The trigger mechanism consists of two triggers: the lower one cycles the firing mechanism while the top one releases the discs. You have to pull both triggers to fire. Not sure if this is a practical thing or just for fun, but it certainly is cool hearing the mechanism “spin up” like a minigun.

About Those Discs
While I appreciate the cool science fiction look of the blasters, the radical innovation of this line are the really great discs that the guns use, rather than the Nerf darts which we’ve seen for years. OK, let’s talk about those discs. How are they different than the darts? To begin with, the discs really do fly further and more accurately than the darts, almost like mini frisbees. They are also slower, increasing the chance that your target will dodge them. (If that matters!) They jam less readily, but are harder to clear when they do jam. They load easier into the clips, as long as you don’t accidentally put them in upside down, which causes a jam. In terms of the annoyance factor of Mom finding them throughout the house, the discs don’t offer any improvement over the darts, and in fact, they are more slender in height and therefore slip into smaller crevices. Currently about half of my discs are AWOL.

All in all, the Vortex line offers some likable toys that are sure to keep dads and kids entertained over the winter.

GeekDad

T-Shirt Addict: How to Spot a Geek Dad on Halloween

Earlier this week, you may have read GeekDad Dave Giancaspro’s 5 reasons why you should make your kid’s Halloween costume. There’s a lot of truth behind that link, but one reason that struck home was the following: “You’ll be able to find other geeks in the neighborhood.” We should always be on the lookout for fellow geeks, but could be using a more common piece of social currency than the once-per-year costume: the geeky t-shirt.

Us geeks, we don’t do anything half-heatedly, and Halloween is no exception. There’s nothing quite like geeky passion to turn a one-day holiday into a month-long affair, so have no doubt that as you venture out into public this weekend, you might spot some of the latest and greatest geeky Halloween t-shirts. Here’s a quick roundup of this month’s best. Use it as a checklist, or play t-shirt bingo!

Soylent Puft: To quote a favorite Far Side strip of mine, “You’re sick Jessy! … Sick, sick sick!” There’s nothing more horrifying than marshmallow-on-marshmallow cannibalism, especially when Mr. Stay Puft just looked so darn happy.

Image courtesty of Threadless.com

I’m Lovin’ It: This TeeFury offering from way back on September 22nd is still one of the best Halloween tees of the year. Nothing frightened my generation at a young age more than Stephen King’s It, but there are some people afraid of just regular old Ronald McDonald. Do not let them see this shirt.

Click or Treat: Yes, it’s corny. Yes, I still laughed. While they are more cutesy than horrifying, what finally sold me on these four Halloween mice was when I realized that the computer mouse had a tattered USB cord for a tail.

Image courtesty of Shirt.Woot.Com

Ask Me About My Zombie Disguise: Spotting a fellow geek can be quite hard when they are camouflaged as the cool “words on a shirt” guy. Don’t let that fool you, though. They may have a killer zombie costume surprise hidden underneath!

Image courtesty of CrazyDogTshirts.com

Madmen: You won’t like them when they’re angry. To make matters worse, the guys from Madison Avenue seem to be permanently intoxicated, so this could be quite the dangerous mash-up.

Image courtesty of RiptApparel.com

Zombert & Zombernie: Bert and Ernie don’t ever seem to age, but one thing is for sure: they’ll eventually decay. Get a sneak peek into the future with this gruesome vision from 604Republic:

Somerset catering manager, Trevor Prideaux, found that he was having trouble texting ever since he upgraded his handset to a smartphone. Ultimately, this didn’t stop Trevor. The resourceful Mr. Prideaux enlisted help from device manufacturer Nokia and professionals from the Exeter Mobility Centre to help design and fabricate a prototype prosthetic arm that could hold his smartphone while he typed. The result, developed in just five weeks by prosthethist Steve Gallichan, technician Les Street, and undergrad Sara Bennett looks like a natural fit.

Ouf !

Voici les différentes étapes qui permettait cela :
