Not all activities are for the snowbirds. Here is one place that caters to the younger crowd or those that still think they are young. Numerous beach activities with a very welcome beach atmosphere make Caddy`s one of the favorites for younger locals and tourists. Also the food while made for the younger crowd, is also quite passable.

Pass A Grille - Area Drive

Pass a Grille is an older area in the St Petes region on a point surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal Waterway. Many of the homes are original and the towns character is one that portrays how life was during the early growth in population. Amazingly, new building must retain a strict building code to retain the past so few resorts and highrises are available.

Mahuffer`s Bar - Indian Shores

A bar like no others. Cement floors, dogs, cats, wooden beams and thousands of artifacts. It could take weeks to view everything but the conversations with visitors and locals will help to pass the time. If you are ever in the area, drop in, just to say hello, and to be able to tell others when you return home of a place like no other. Something to consider would be that they have live New Orleans Jazz several days on the weekend.

Indian Shores Beach - Indian Shores

A most excellent winter vacation spot along Indian Shores Beach. Sunsets were just fabulous and the daily beach walks were always different as the wave action always provided a new texture. Quite possible to travel 4-5 miles in either direction on the beach without having a barricade or opening to the intercoastal waterway. In this particular area there is also a wild life refuge for the many pelicans and water birds.

Annapolis Harbor - Maryland

Interesting spot to visit. Many of the venues are related to the sea and maritime industries. One will also see an extensive portrayal of the sailing fleets, made up of all shapes and sizes. When we visited the historic downtown area was small in size and this allowed us to have lunch and visit many of the shops on the main street. The closeness to the ocean & the many types of sailing vessels gives one the reason to visit even if it is not for a long time.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - Cleveland, Ohio

Adding the Rock & Roll Hall of fame to the attraction list provides another reason why one may wish to spend a night. The Cleveland Flat`s area and the new Jacob`s Field are others. For young or old or in between, plan on spending several hours at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Cameras are not allowed inside so our eyes had to view the thousands of articles displayed throughout the building. Even after being there 5-6 hours there is always a mention of returning to see some of the new displays.

Mackinac Island - Michigan

A great mini vacation area. Rest and relaxation are made much easier without the modern day conveniences like motorized vehicles. Spent the night at St. Ignace and took the early morning ferry ride over for just a fantastic day. Lot of walking but there are bicycles, and even horse drawn carriages for those not able to move around easily. One of my favorite memories is walking to the centuries old grave yard on the top of the island, viewing the dates of those departed and then returning to the main downtown area by taking small pathways thru the heavily wooded forests. Just so quiet with nature all around you, and knowing that refreshments were just ahead.

Intercoastal Waterway - Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood, Florida

The area is fortunate to have a superb intercoastal waterway along much of the coastline. A great place to move your watercraft away from the Atlantic ocean waters. In many areas it is quite built up with restaurants or accommodation but there is also an extensive park system where you can sit down and view the so many types of watercraft. Actually besides looking for the different varieties of ocean life, looking at the yachts and cruisers with sunbathing patrons became the norm.

Watercraft - Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood, Florida

Boats of all shapes and sizes, some for personal use, some for the river transits, and many for Ocean cruising. Port in Fort Lauderdale has the daily cruise ships that make the voyage over to Nassau in the Bahamas. These trips can vary from a night or two to same day crossings. For those on vacation it does allow you to get away, visit another country and return home the same day. Don`t forget your passport though.

A1A Coastal Highway - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Highway is adjacent to beach area and has been extensively modified to adapt to the surrounding conditions. This fun drive is over two miles long and is very hard on the neck as you are forever looking at one side or the other. The walkers and bathers on one side are contrasted by restaurants and business establishments on the other. Traffic moves slowly as the main reason to drive is to view what is available prior to parking and then partaking in the festivities along with the many others.

Canals of Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Water is everywhere in Fort Lauderdale. The intercoastal waterway, rivers and an extensive canal system that gives many access to the Atlantic Ocean. The canals off of Las Olas drive have either small accommodations or private homes. All have yachts or sailboats at the back door awaiting the opportunity to travel to the Intercoastal waterway or the Atlantic ocean itself. The size of some of these yachts is quite impressive.

Unique riverfront area has several walkways, with good quality restaurants and shopping along the way. You can even grab a boat for a river cruise. One of my favorite areas to go when in the area as everything is close by to entertain yourself. Live entertainment in the pavilion is available during the high season, and taking small walks on the paths beside the river is always enjoyable.

Atlantic City - New Jersey

More than just casinos. The boardwalk which never seems to end together with oceanside beaches make for a very fitting addition to the many casinos. Boardwalk has many small vendors interspersed with entertainers. Quite easy to walk into one of many casinos or down to the beach. Many small eating establishments at either location that were reasonable in cost. Small one or two seat bicycle carriages are quite popular when travelling from one area to the other, but most seem to walk.

Go out of your way to visit this location. Great beach area, very unique homes and tourist section. After seeing so much of North America this location now has become one of our favorites. The very different multi colored homes are quite pleasing to the eye and the small historic downtown area has just enough shopping to spend a few hours before visiting one of the many restaurants in the area. Have returned and this time stayed a night to enjoy one of our favorite places.

Historic homes with an excellent park system alongside the Atlantic Ocean. Went out of our way to visit here but will return to see what we missed and even see some of the sites once again. A totally enjoyable walk through the historic area where homes were built to the period of that time. Very distinctive area that brought back memories of past movies. Waterfront area for the most part has a very well kept park that stretches for hundreds of yards.

A very historic city with many parks. Love to return often and have one of the excellent shrimp baskets. Definitely one of our favorites and taking the trolley tour was a highlight as you can see and hear about many of the unique buildings and homes. We have often returned on our snowbird trips to have lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants that are adjacent to the cobblestone streets alongside the river. If you are fortunate enough to be in the area, take the time to visit one of our historic cities.

Will always be a favorite, as it has so many "cool" things to do. Walk the narrow streets, visit the fort, shop in exquisite stores, see the lighthouse. When we visit ( actually quite often ) some of our favorites are the artisan village, a unique cat shop ( wife`s preference ) and of course eating lunch or dinner at one of many fine restaurants. The fort and small width streets provide a real perspective in how life was lived 500 years ago. Plan on spending a day or two.

On the Atlantic coastline in northern Florida, this beach is a bit more laid back and retains some historic charm. We really are beach people and love to see the waters and waves as they come in. Here there is not a multitude of people, yet the beach is one of the area`s finest. As we await to see where hurricane 'EARL" will land, it is still quite possible to see an area where population has not taken over the scenery.

A southern playground. An entertainment district like no other, with a beautiful beach on one side. People watching is a prime activity together with some great restaurants. Also don`t forget the cars, as there are many from past years, either driving by or parked on ths side. Night life is an important feature as the area opens up with restaurants being a prime activity along with many live entertainment groups.

With only a boardwalk between you and the beach, this has become one of my favorites. Bars, restaurants and shopping give one a total beach experience within steps of each other. For snowbirds this is a great area, as surrounding accommodation is quite reasonable and entertainment is available free of charge most nights during the winter months. Many of the smaller family owned restaurants have reasonable charges and the bars usually overlook the boardwalk and beach.

Everything in it`s place. Much effort and time is spent to ensure that the beach and surrounding area is maintained to provide tourists with a great clean place to sun and relax. The beach is terrific and the wind is constant yet not overbearing. One can spend the afternoon here easily and then cross the street for a great evening dinner or lunch.

Much to do and see. From the wharf to the many parks along the waterfront, to the restaurants, museums and shopping close by it provides most with a good experience. We have spent several days here, relaxing on a small beach and walking the trails on the waterfront parks. The wharf is an experience itself, as it contains many tourism sites with a restaurant on the top that one can overlook Tampa Bay.

Beaches of Mazatlan - Mexico

Terrific beach to lay back, wander into the surf, listen to the wandering marachi bands or buy the many products tendered by beach vendors. We love the beach as mentioned previously but this one seemed to have more activity than most. Beach vendors trying to sell their wares every 10-15 minutes provided interesting moments to get out of the sun, plus the waves were very consistent and you were able to go out 50 feet, sit down, and let them wash over you.
