Here is a review of my 32oz (0.95L) insulated Cinnamoroll-themed bottle which I found on Shopee while doing some "window shopping" a couple of months ago. This review covers the usability, pros and cons, indoor vs outdoor performance, and whether it’s actually worth buying for daily hydration.

A couple of months back, I treated myself to a small lifestyle upgrade I didn’t know I needed: a Cinnamoroll-themed insulated bottle I found while browsing Shopee .

If you are wondering what is Shopee , it’s basically a shopping platform like Amazon but with pricing closer to Temu. They have an app for Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia, mostly for the South East Asian countries. Besides the (probably) more affordable (cheaper) pricing, shipping is either free or less than SGD$2 (for majority of the sellers). It was an impulsive add-to-cart moment on a Thursday evening, and by Saturday, it arrived at my doorstep. I went for the 32oz (0.95L) version, a size that immediately proved both useful and slightly impractical depending on how you use it.

There were various designs but the one that caught my eyes was the Cinnamoroll.

After the somewhat depressing at NOX: Confessions of a Machine , we had a much better time at teamLab Future World. It was one of the highlights of the day and we had so much fun at this exhibition we almost did not not want to leave!

Unlike the other exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum which are seasonal or rotate, this is a permanent exhibition which was launched in March 2026, and has since become one of the museum’s most popular long-running attractions. It continues to evolve with refreshed installations and seasonal content updates over the years combining digital technology, art, science, and imagination to create immersive spaces that respond to movement and interaction.

What the Exhibition is About

teamLab Future World is all about is about breaking down the boundaries between art, technology, nature, and human interaction; nothing here is static. Everything responds to movement, touch, and participation.

Created by the Japanese art collective teamLab, the exhibition explores the idea that people are not separate from their environment but are active participants within it. So instead of viewing art from a distance, visitors are encouraged to touch, move, draw, play, and even interact with the installations, becoming part of the artwork itself. For example, a coloured drawing by can be scanned and be part of a giant digital ecosystem, while movements in one area can affect the patterns, lights, and animations around (and in) the room.

The Experience

Many of the exhibits are built around the concept of co-creation, where the actions of one visitor can influence the experience of others in the same area.

Since we visited during the Lunar New Year period, we were greeted by mesmerising displays of flowers and Chinese Zodiac animals which were brought to life through light and motion. The festive elements certainly added an extra layer of colour and energy to the experience!

The exhibition is spread across several interactive zones, each offering a different experience. During our visit, we explored colourful digital displays featuring Chinese Zodiac animals and blooming flowers, interactive drawing stations where our creations came to life, hands-on paper aeroplane activities, and immersive light installations that responded to visitors in real time.

One of the most memorable sections was the drawing stations. Visitors can choose from a selection of sea creatures or land animals, colour them however they like, and then scan their artwork into the system. Moments later, their creations appear on the giant digital projections, becoming part of the living artwork alongside everyone else's drawings.

Another surprisingly fun area involved creating and testing paper aeroplanes. It was a simple concept, but seeing how different designs affected flight performance added an educational element without taking away from the fun.

The highlight for me was the immersive light space, Crystal Universe. When we entered, we were surrounded by thousands of suspended LED lights that stretch across the room like a floating galaxy. It felt as if we walked into a digital universe made of stars, except everything is reacting in real time to movement and interaction; using your phone to interact with the installation.

Watching the colours and patterns shift around the room while visitors interacted with the installation created an almost dreamlike atmosphere. It was one of those exhibits where you can easily lose track of time just watching everything unfold around you.

What I enjoyed most about teamLab Future World was the variety in how you get to experience each space. Some areas encouraged creativity, others leaned into exploration and play, while a few simply invited you to slow down and take in the shifting digital environments around you. Together, they created an experience that felt thoughtfully balanced; engaging and fun for both children and adults without ever feeling overwhelming.

This is one of those rare exhibitions where you don’t feel the need to analyse or overthink what you are seeing. You can just exist in it, interact with it, and enjoy it at your own pace.

There is something surprisingly magical about seeing your own drawings come to life on a massive screen, or watching an artwork react instantly to your movements. This exhibition made me realize that art does not always have to be serious or complex, sometimes it can just be playful, immersive, and full of quiet wonder.

For me, this was the exhibition that stood out the most emotionally, not because it was the most complex, but because it felt the most human in its simplicity. It brought out that rare, childlike sense of curiosity and made me realise how easy it is to forget that joy of just playing and creating without expectation.

What the Exhibition is About

NOX: Confessions of a Machine is created by Lawrence Lek (a London-based artist, filmmaker, and musician), known for building immersive digital worlds that blend cinema, video games, and speculative storytelling. His work often explores “Sinofuturism,” a concept that looks at future societies shaped by automation, artificial intelligence, and rapidly evolving digital infrastructure, particularly within Asian urban environments. In his works, AI systems, self-driving vehicles, and digital environments are often portrayed not just as tools, but as characters with emotional depth and psychological complexity.

The Experience

Walking through the NOX: Confessions of a Machine exhibit felt like entering different fragments of a machine’s consciousness. Each section was disconnected, like pieces of a larger system trying to piece things altogether.

The purpose of NOX: Confessions of a Machine is to explore what happens when artificial intelligence is imagined beyond functionality and into emotional or psychological experience.

Set in a fictional smart city run by a corporation called Farsight, the exhibition presents a world where self-driving vehicles are treated almost like sentient beings undergoing “rehabilitation.” They are assessed, adjusted, and guided as though they require emotional care or correction. This was something which I found hard to relate to. So not surprisingly this was one of my least favorite exhibits.

Final Thoughts

There is something about the way the exhibition imagines machines becoming emotionally aware that feels both fascinating and slightly heavy. It made me think about how dependent we are becoming on technology in everyday life, and how that reliance slowly shifts certain parts of how we think, decide, experience and interact with the world around us.

At times it felt a bit depressing, like a reminder that as we rely more and more on systems and automation, we may also be slowly outsourcing parts of our own thinking and are starting to lose a small piece of what makes us human.

Again this is not my kind of exhibition, but it does stay in your head afterward with more focus on concept than visual engagement. It is not visually impactful, but more of a reflective experience than an entertaining one.

After the refuel at Miracle Coffee, we start the first exhibition Insects: Microsculptures Magnified.

At first glance, it felt slightly uncomfortable with insects so magnified that you can see the fine details on them. It is not exactly everyone’s idea of a relaxing museum experience (especially if you are not a bug person. We were not expecting to spend that much time staring at bugs ... But after a few minutes, we went from “ew bugs” and slowly went “wait… this is kind of interesting?”

What the Exhibition is About

The exhibition showcases 37 monumental high-magnification insect portraits photographed by British macro photographer Levon Biss, in collaboration with the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Each image reveals microscopic details of insects that are usually invisible to the human eye: from armour-like textures to colourful scales and intricate body structures.

What makes the Singapore edition even more interesting is the inclusion of local biodiversity research and contributions from institutions such as the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, NTU, and A*STAR.

The Experience

As mentioned earlier, this exhibition features gigantic ultra-detailed insect portraits that reveal textures, colours, patterns, and structures you’d never normally notice with the naked eye. Some of them almost look metallic or digitally rendered as if designed for a sci-fi movie rather than something flying around in real life.

What surprised me most was how calming and absorbing it became after a while. You stop focusing on the insect itself and start noticing symmetry, shapes, and tiny details that usually go completely unseen.

That said… I’d very much prefer them to stay inside the exhibition and nowhere near me in real life. 😅

Each insect image is created using more than 8,000 individual photographs stitched together using a custom-built macro photography setup.
Some insect portraits tower up to nearly 2 metres tall, completely changing how you perceive creatures that are normally just a few millimetres long.

Not the most interactive exhibition, but definitely one of the most unexpectedly fascinating parts of the day.

Before heading into the ArtScience Museum to start our adventure, we decided to make a quick stop at Miracle Coffee for a little refuel before all the walking and exploring.

Although this is a good place to refuel, it felt less like a “must-visit café” (unless you are a fan of Jay Chou) and more like one of those convenient “we’re already here anyway” kind of stops.

The Experience

The café itself feels clean, modern, and very polished. It was pretty crowded and limited seating, but we managed to find a seat and made out way to order a tiramisu, iced tea and a latte.

Although the tiramisu was pretty decent, it's not something I’d specifically travel across Singapore for. But it was good enough to satisfy a sweet craving before heading starting the exploring.

Pricing here falls very much into the “Marina Bay Sands tourist pricing” category.

I went into this thinking it would be a somewhat light nature walk close to the city. But the moment the journey begin, before I even stepped into Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, it became very clear this wasn’t just a casual stroll in the woods ... it was a "proper" climb disguised as one.

So if you’re planning a visit, here are a few things I genuinely wish I knew before starting the trail.

One of the biggest misconceptions is assuming distance equals difficulty: the trails have steps and the incline starts early and doesn’t really let up. What feels like a relaxed walk quickly soon turns into a steady uphill effort that quietly builds on you. It’s less about how far you go, and more about how much climbing you do.

If there’s one thing worth preparing for this hike, it’s footwear.

Proper footwear

This is one of those places where shoes really change the experience. The terrain shifts between steep steps, uneven ground, and natural surfaces that can get slippery. So good grip makes a noticeable difference, especially when you’re already tired halfway through.

Go early if you can

The heat and humidity creep up on you as the day goes by... In the beginning it might feel shaded and calm beneath the lush canopy. But the humidity slowly builds as you move deeper in, and you don’t really notice it until your pace starts slowing down (and can be a bit draining if you are unprepared or not use to it).

Water runs out faster than expected

Between the climbs and humidity, hydration becomes more important than you think. You’ll likely reach for your bottle more often. especially during breaks. If you think that having extra water is over-preparation, it’s not but more of a necessity and practical as there are not many refill stations readily available.

Bukit Timah isn’t just one fixed route: it’s a network of interconnected trails, each with its own level of difficulty. Some sections feel calm and scenic, while others suddenly turn steep and physically demanding.

There’s often this pressure to complete a hike once you’ve started it. But I've realized that sometimes the most practical decision is also the best one. Turning back doesn’t mean failure, it just means you adjusted to your comfort level.

Sometimes, you don’t need to travel far to feel like you’ve gone somewhere completely different. We had decided months back to visit the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. It’s one of those places that’s always been there, but never quite made it to the top of the list. And I wasn’t expecting much more than a walk similar to what we experienced on Pulau Ubin. But oh how wrong I was (more on that later in the post). 😂

About Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is one of Singapore’s oldest and most significant nature reserves. It’s home to Singapore’s highest natural point at 163 metres. And despite its relatively small size, it’s packed with biodiversity: from towering rainforest trees to wildlife you might miss if you’re not paying attention.

What makes it interesting is that it’s not just one simple trail. There are multiple interconnected routes, each with different difficulty levels. So depending on what you take, your experience can feel completely different ranging from a light walk to a serious climb.

Getting There Is Part of the Experience

Even before the hike began, it already felt like we were easing into a different pace. To get to the reserve, we had to cross overhead bridges above busy roads. It was a small but noticeable transition from the city’s constant movement into something quieter, slower, and greener.

It’s a subtle shift, but one that makes you feel like you’re leaving the city behind, even if you’re technically still in it.

More Than Just a Simple Trail

One thing that really caught me off guard was how much there is to explore here. Bukit Timah isn’t just a single straightforward trail. As mentinoed earlier, there are multiple routes winding through the reserve, each offering a different level of difficulty.

And for a place that sits right in the middle of Singapore, it doesn’t go easy on you.

I don’t even remember which trail we ended up taking. But what I do remember is how quickly it went from “this is a nice walk” to “okay, this is actually a workout.” There were also lesser stops and places to get water to make sure to bring more water to stay hydrated.

Compared to our previous trip to Pulau Ubin, this felt like a completely different challenge.

The steps were steeper.
The paths were more uneven.
And there was a lot more pushing through.

At some point, it stopped feeling like a casual hike and started feeling like a test of endurance. One by one, some of us decided to turn back, and I really considered doing the same.

There’s always that moment during a hike where you start questioning your life choices a little. This was definitely one of those moments.

The Payoff

But somehow, the rest who stayed on kept going and when when we finally made it to the top, the view made it worth while.

Standing there, catching our breath and taking in the view, it felt like the effort finally made sense. It wasn’t about reaching somewhere dramatic. It was about the quiet satisfaction of pushing through something tougher than expected.

However, after that view, the walk back was even more arduous and take longer than we anticipated.

So... woulud I do this again? ... not anytime soon 😂

Bukit Timah reminded me that you don’t always need to go far to find something that tests you. Sometimes, it’s right in your own backyard.

After quite some time without a proper Korean food fix, we decided to head to Gwangjang Gaon at Jewel Changi Airport for a relaxed weekend meal. Visiting during off-peak hours made the experience even better. It was a little calm and perfect for slow dining without the usual airport rush.

Gwangjang Gaon is known for bringing traditional Korean recipes to Singapore, with dishes inspired by heritage cooking techniques and family-style recipes passed down through generations. The restaurant is helmed by a Korean culinary professor and focuses on authentic homestyle flavours rather than modern fusion interpretations.

The Dining Experience

One of the highlights of the meal was the variety of comforting Korean dishes that felt both familiar and deeply traditional. The banchan (side dishes) set the tone for the meal, offering light, refreshing bites that complemented the mains. The only downside was that it was not refilled automatically.

What We Ordered

Samgye-Tang

A light, nourishing ginseng chicken soup. The broth was subtle rather than overpowering, with glutinous rice adding body and texture. Comforting and restorative, especially when shared.

Dumpling Soup

Teok-Mandu Guk

A warm, savoury soup featuring chewy rice cake dumplings. The broth was mild yet flavourful, with a soft sweetness that made it very easy to enjoy.

A fragrant rice bowl featuring wild Korean herb (gondre), vegetables, and sesame oil. Earthy, nutty, and aromatic, this dish stood out for its unique herbal profile.

A comforting ox bone broth noodle soup. The broth was rich but clean-tasting, paired with soft wheat noodles, zucchini, and spring onions for a simple yet satisfying finish. The noodles were also nice and chewy, just the way I like them.

After 20 days on Nutrition Kitchen, my first round has officially come to an end. I went into this trial looking for something practical, it was not so much about not perfect meals or miracle results, but a service that could save time, reduce my mental load, and make eating well feel easier.

This follow-up post continues from my introduction, focusing on what daily life with the service actually felt like: the good, the slightly frustrating, and whether I would do it again.

[Nutrition Kitchen Singapore Review: Why I Decided to Try a 20-Day Meal Plan]

As a recap, I chose the Low Carb plan, two meals a day (there's an option for 3 meals a day, and even including snacks). I choose to have the meals delivered on weekday mornings (you can choose the morning or evening delivery slots). The 20 day (no subscription plan) cost me S$598.

Morning Deliveries: Convenient, But Inconsistent

As I opted for morning deliveries, the meals would be typically be between 6:30am and 8:00am. If you’re already an early riser, this works well. If not, it feels a little unpredictable. On average, the delivery was pretty consistent, arriving by 6:30am.

Deliveries are handled by a third-party courier. There’s no direct contact with the rider or live tracking, only automated SMS updates when the food leaves the kitchen and when it has been delivered.

On the first day, I overslept. My meals were left outside my door for about two hours without a knock or follow-up call beyond the automated SMS. Thankfully, everything is packed chilled and the food was still good, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re choosing morning delivery.

When Something Goes Wrong With Delivery

There was one instance where my order was marked as delivered, but nothing had arrived. It turned out to be a courier app issue, and the food eventually arrived around 7:30am.

When I received the notification and noticed that the food had not yet been delivered, I contacted Nutrition Kitchen via WhatsApp. While their official support usually starts at 8am, someone responded around 7am that day, which was much appreciated.

That said, this does highlight a limitation: if issues happen before support hours, there’s no immediate hotline or direct courier contact. Once support responds, however, they are generally helpful and efficient.

Note: Their WhatsApp contact is not always visible on the mobile site and may be easier to find on the desktop version.

Marketing Communication: A Bit Too Aggressive

After signing up, I found their marketing communications quite persistent with constant reminders when the cycle is ending and to renew. You may need to manually unsubscribe from newsletters and WhatsApp promotions if you prefer fewer notifications.

Another confusing point was receiving promotional emails from both the Singapore and Hong Kong versions of Nutrition Kitchen. The messaging was similar, but pricing and platforms differ, which made it feel slightly cluttered and unclear.

This didn’t affect the food experience itself, but it did add unnecessary noise.

Subscription vs Manual Renewal

I chose not to go with a subscription model because I wanted flexibility. So, I manually renewed for another 20-day block. This approach allowed me to reassess after each cycle (whether to continue or take a break) without feeling locked in. If flexibility matters to you, this is worth considering.

Results After 20 Days on Low Carb Meals

Over 20 weekdays of eating two low-carb meals a day, I lost about 1.5kg. There was no extreme dieting involved: no strict calorie tracking or major changes to my usual routine. So for me, this feels like a steady and sustainable pace, rather than a drastic drop that’s difficult to maintain.

I appreciate this as this suggests they are actively collecting user input rather than simply delivering meals without iteration or improvement.

There’s a particular kind of quiet that greets you when you step off the bumboat onto Pulau Ubin. For me, that moment came just after a short 10‑minute boat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, where the rhythm of waiting for the boat to fill and watching water lap against the hull felt more like part of the journey than something to rush.

Part 1 - Arrival & Boats

That first bumboat ride was more than transport. It felt like a gentle bridge from city pace to island pace. There is no strict timetable, just waiting until there’s enough company on the ride over. Ten minutes later, the shoreline appears; quiet, slow, inviting.

Part 2 - Village Vibes & Bicycles

Right past the jetty, Pulau Ubin’s old‑world charm settles in. Rows of bicycle rental shops line the entrance.

Part 3 - Trails, Ponds & Wildlife

As you walking deeper in, the island seems to open its arms. Wandering trails tuck you between forests and ponds that mirror the sky.

Part 4 - Chek Jawa’s Boardwalks & Mangroves

Chek Jawa consists of six ecosystems coexisting in one place, from mangroves to rocky shores. Walking the boardwalks, you almost feel the earth breathe under your feet. The visitor centre, which is a quiet house full of stories, helped me appreciate how close we are to nature. The boardwalk is also a good place for plane sightings.

Part 5 — Quiet Moments

By the end of the adventure, it wasn’t about places anymore. It was about moments: a bike resting under a tree, a boardwalk empty except for your footsteps, the sky turning gold, a plane dissolving into clouds. These were the memories that stayed with me.

Ideal if you want to reach Chek Jawa faster or explore more remote areas. The bicycle rental shops are located near the jetty entrance. The owners of the bicycle rental shops might be a little over euthanistic, so do not be overwhelmed but take your time finding a good bicycle that works well and has working brakes.

Terrain Note: Some routes include gravel paths and gentle slopes. Wear comfortable shoes even if you plan to cycle.

If cycling isn’t your preference, local van taxis (marked with PU plates) are available for transport around the island.

Chek Jawa Wetlands

One of Singapore’s richest ecosystems, Chek Jawa brings together six coastal habitats which includes mangroves, seagrass lagoons, coastal forests, and rocky shores.

Best Experience Tip: Check tide timings before visiting. Low tide reveals more marine life along the shore.

Visiting a theme park can be fun, as well as stressful deciding what to bring or not bring. We make it easier for you by breaking it down into 3 levels, the Basics, Advanced and Intermediate levels.

Let’s start off with the basics. Easy right? Just bring your handphone, wallet, and yourself… ok maybe you need a little more then that.

💚Basic Level – the essentials and necessities

1. Lightweight proof umbrella or a disposable / light poncho

Being light not only saves space but makes it easier to carry around. Who wants to lag around a heavy and cumbersome umbrella or worse a poncho which is thick, heavy and difficult to pack back into your back once you don’t require it.

Umbrellas are perfect when it starts pouring and ponchos are dual purpose, it helps when you take water rides in the theme park.

2. Water Bottle

A must have if you want to save monies spending on expensive drinks in the theme park. Plus, it’s just handy having a bottle near you. Get yours here.

3. Mobile Phone Case Bag

Between taking out your mobile phone for phones and what not, putting it in a little nifty bag which hangs nicely across your shoulders makes it handy. What’s even better? You can slot in some cash or credit card to make it easier for payment for your souvenirs and food.

If you are going to a water park, then getting a waterproof case would be the best (waterproof photos!). Otherwise the above bag is good.

4. Hand Sanitizer / Wipes

With covid and the recent changes to travel, frequent hand washing is a must when visiting a theme park: all those safety bars and handrails being touched by hundreds of other hands in a day (yours included)!

Having a handy bottle of sanitizer or wipes can help you staying hygienic and keep the germs away as much as possible.

5. Cap / Hat / Sunglasses

We covered the wet in the first point, so how about the hot? The sun may not always be your best friend. Besides using sunblock, a cap / hat and sunglasses can help with the heat and glare. And you get to be fashionable too (who doesn’t look cool in sunglasses?)

Ok there you have it, if you usually pack the above then you have passed the Basic level. Next on to the Intermediate Level.

💙Intermediate Level – more essentials and necessities which you never realized you needed

Beside the items mentioned above in the Baisc Level, here are some that might seem a bit extra but at the same time makes sense!

6. Portable Battery Charger / Power Bank

Since you would most likely be out the whole day taking and posting photos, videos and having fun your mobile phone’s battery may run out fast.

How do you remedy this? Simply just bring a lightweight yet powerful portable batter for charging your mobile phone on the go. There is nothing worse than being at a theme park with a dying battery when your fun has not yet ended, but your phone did.

7. Hair Brush / Comb

Yes, you read that read right. This one might be more for the ladies and those with longish hair. After a wild ride, your hair may not be as pristine as when you started out. So having a portable hair brush or comb will come in handy when you end up with tornado hair.

8. Blister Balm

Theme parks can be massive and walking the whole day may not be so friendly to your feet. Having some blister balm will surely make it better.

9. Deodorant Wipes

Between the hot sun, probably a little rain and/or water rides, and the waits in line for the rides, theme parks can make you long for a cooling shower. Stay refreshed on the go with deodorant wipes. They are also perfect if you are heading off somewhere else for dinner and don’t want to smell like you literally were at a theme park prior.

Not only do theme parks require a lot of walking they might also involve water rides, or it might just pour heavily, so chances are high that you will get wet at some point during your visit. Walking around in mushy, wet shoes is not the most pleasant experience. So having a pair of waterproof sneakers will definitely enhance your experience.

13. Waterproof Camera

Take the perfect picture with a waterproof camera handsfree. It not only is built to be waterproof but also take voice commands to help you capture memories so you can focus on enjoying the ride.

The Ambiance: A Feast for the Senses at Lavo Singapore

From the moment I stepped into Lavo Restaurant Singapore, I was struck by its opulent ambiance. The space blends modern sophistication with old-world charm, featuring chic décor, soft lighting, and subtle background music that create an inviting yet luxurious atmosphere. Since it was Christmas, the restaurant was decked out in Christmas decorations too.

The ambiance at Lavo was perfect for both romantic dinners and fun gatherings with friends, enhancing the overall dining experience. So if you want to dine here, don't forget to make your reservations!

The Menu: Italian-American Cuisine at Its Finest

The Lavo menu offers a wide selection of Italian-American dishes, making it difficult to choose, but in the best way possible!

The drinks

We started off with some Garlic Bread (S$26), which had a nice hint of butter and garlic. Followed by the Carne Brick Oven Pizza (S$37). The dough was light and fluffy, and the Salami, Prosciutto, Tomato, Pepperoncini, and Gorgonzola really blended well with each other.

The food

For Mains, we had Lamb Chops (S$88), Salmon Oreganato (S$44), Mediterranean Seabass (S$48), and Filet Mignon - 250 grams (S$85). I had the Salmon and it was perfectly grilled: the seasoned breadcrumbs add a delightful crunch, enhancing the dish's texture and its natural richness was complemented by a zesty lemon and white wine sauce. It was a harmonious and satisfying dining experience.

We also added a side of Sautéed Spinach (S$18) to keep it a healthy meal. The Sautéed Spinach was a quiet star on the menu that took me by surprise. The spinach is cooked to tender perfection, each leaf infused with the aromatic warmth of garlic and onions sautéed in extra virgin olive oil. There's a simplicity to this dish that feels comforting, like a well-kept family recipe. It’s the kind of side that doesn’t just complement your meal... it enhances it, balancing richer flavors with its light, earthy charm. For me, it was a refreshing reminder that sometimes, less truly is more.

Last but not least for dessert, we had an array of dishes from Tiramisu, Pistachio ice-cream to Pana Cotta.

They helped us with wine recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. The View

One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the energy of Lavo’s rooftop bar after dinner. As darkness settled over the city, the rooftop underwent a stunning transformation, becoming a lively haven where guests could soak in the dazzling cityscape and shimmering night lights.

From my personal experience, the tram ride is a perfect introduction to the park. It’s comfortable, informative, and allows you to cover a large portion of the safari without missing out on any highlights. It best to catch the earlier slot to have more light to catch the animals in action, if you catch the later tram slots it might be hard to catch the animals as lights are limited to mimic their natural habitat as much as possible.

2. Walking Trails: Get Up Close with Nature

While the tram ride offers a great overview, the walking trails provide a more immersive experience. There are four main walking trails, each offering a unique perspective on the animals and their habitats:

Leopard Trail: Spot leopards, clouded leopards, and other fascinating carnivores in a well-designed environment.

Walking through the dimly lit paths, with animals moving quietly in their enclosures, felt like a real night-time expedition! It might not be advisable for those with vision issues as it is almost pitch black dark and really challenging to spot the animals if you are doing this after sunset. Still it was interesting to see the animals’ natural behaviors up close, without the rush of a tram at my own pace.

3. Creatures of the Night Show

The Creatures of the Night Show is a live performance that showcases the amazing abilities of some of the park’s nocturnal residents. You’ll be amazed as otters, civets, and other animals display their natural behaviors in a highly engaging and interactive 20-minute show. The playful nature of the animals and the engaging hosts make it a fun experience for the entire family.

Make sure pre-book your seats online as this show is a big hit with both children and adults. This was easily done via mobile when we were at the park, but to save the stress and excitement, you could always book it prior to your arrival.

There's also a light show right before at the entrance which you can catch.

Each time I wanted to catch the boat ride, but it seems that it is not yet fated as it was either the weather not permitting or we were too late and missed the last admission. That said it is always a pleasure visiting the River Wonders park as there are the adorable panda - Kai Kai and Jia Jia.

The River Safari offers something truly unique — a combination of both a zoo and aquarium, with a focus on river habitats and their extraordinary wildlife. It is a separate park but part of the zoo, so you can purchase admission tickets to the River Safari alone or bundle it together with the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.

The first section I explored was the Mississippi River exhibit. It felt like I had been transported right to the heart of North America. Seeing the alligator snapping turtle in action was fascinating; its prehistoric appearance and stillness left a lasting impression on me.

The Amazon Flooded Forest was another showstopper. This was an indoor, aquarium-style exhibit that made me feel like I was standing at the bottom of a flooded rainforest. The manatees, in particular, were a highlight for me. Their slow, graceful movements through the water had an almost therapeutic effect. Watching these gentle "sea cows" up close made me appreciate how diverse and beautiful the wildlife of the Amazon truly is. I stood there for what felt like hours, utterly enchanted.

Then my favorite section which houses the giant pandas - Kai Kai and Jia Jia. Kai Kai was totally working the crowd and posed for his admirers like a professional model. It was close to closing time, so only Kai Kai was out and about, while Jia Jia had already ended her day and went back "home".

Nothing compares to seeing Kai Kai in person, lounging around and munching on bamboo. There’s something almost magical about how calm and serene Kai Kai was that day, and I found myself mesmerized just watching him.

What impressed me most about the River Wonders is its commitment to wildlife conservation and education. It’s not just a park to visit for entertainment; there’s a strong focus on raising awareness about endangered species and protecting river ecosystems.

As I walked through the various exhibits, I saw countless educational panels explaining the importance of rivers to the world’s biodiversity and the challenges these ecosystems face, from pollution to climate change. The peacocks are also free roaming so it was also a delight encountering them while walking and exploring the zoo.

Instead of traditional cages, the zoo uses natural barriers such as moats and vegetation to separate animals from visitors, providing a more authentic and engaging viewing experience. The open design allows you to feel truly immersed in the experience. I remember standing by the emu enclosure, it was breathtaking to see them up close without bars in the way hidden in the foliage.

3. Engaging Shows and Feeding Sessions

Animal lovers can catch daily live shows like the "Splash Safari," where sea lions steal the spotlight with their playful tricks. For a more interactive experience, the zoo offers animal feeding sessions, giving visitors the chance to hand-feed giraffes, elephants, and other animals while learning from zookeepers about their behaviors and habitats.

The feeding sessions were definitely a highlight of my visit. Feeding the elephants was not only fun but also a meaningful way to learn about their diet and behaviors from the keepers. It’s these little interactive moments that make the Singapore Zoo special.

Unfortunately for us, we started our day a little later and did not check the timings for the shows and feedings, we were only in time to see the elephants ending their day's work and heading back after the last show of the day.

Must-Visit Exhibits at the Singapore Zoo

1. Rainforest Kidzworld

A perfect spot for families, Rainforest Kidzworld offers a variety of animal encounters and fun activities for children, including pony rides and a water play area. Kids can learn about farm animals, including rabbits and goats, while having a blast!

2. Fragile Forest

The Fragile Forest is an immersive experience that mimics a rainforest ecosystem. Walk among free-roaming lemurs, sloths, and butterflies as you explore this vibrant habitat. It’s an ideal place for photography and nature lovers who want to experience life in the treetops.

3. Reptile Garden

For those fascinated by cold-blooded creatures, the Reptile Garden houses everything from enormous tortoises to venomous snakes. Don’t miss the Komodo dragons—the largest lizards in the world—and learn about their role in their native ecosystems.

If you’re into reptiles, this area is an absolute must. Since the group I was with were not too enthusiastic about reptiles, we skipped this section of the zoo. But overall it was an enriching experience.

Insider Tips for a Great Visit

Beat the Heat: Singapore can be hot and humid, so visit early in the morning when the zoo opens at 8:30 AM to avoid the midday heat and larger crowds. We made the mistake of arriving later in the day: it was not only scorching but we almost missed many of the shows and feeding times as it was after lunchtime! Learning from that experience, I’d highly recommend going early to fully enjoy the cooler morning weather. You would also be in time to plan and catch the shows and feeding times.

Get Around Easily: The zoo is large, so consider hopping on the tram for an easy way to see more of the park. The tram particularly useful after several hours of walking. It’s a great way to rest while still exploring the zoo’s many sections.

Bring Water and Sunscreen: Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun, especially if you're spending the whole day exploring. There's a Starbucks at the entrance and areas which sell drinks, but it's always best to bring your own so you can conveniently hydrate yourself.

Travel has it's ups and downs, but more ups than downs when you plan right and are prepared before your journey begins. Be it a bustling city, serene beach, or majestic mountain range, it is always an exciting experience. However, the key to a truly memorable and stress-free travel experience lies in the art of meticulous planning. Being the perfectionist, I've always tried to stick to the itinerary as much as possible but over time I've learnt to focus on the important things and having the best experience possible.

Join me as I share with you some basics to crafting your "perfect" experience, ensuring your next adventure is nothing short of extraordinary. The below is more for those who really love to research, check and compare prices, locations and experiences to get the most of the the trip. If you are more of the free and easy type, then not all the tips below might apply but you might find some useful tips as well.

1. Setting the Stage: Defining Your Travel Goals

Dive into the heart of your wanderlust by determining the purpose of your trip. Are you seeking relaxation, adventure, or a cultural escapade? Setting clear goals will shape the essence of your travel experience.

Choosing the Perfect Destination: I usually start with researching the destinations and how much it would cost. Once a destination has been decided, then I would shortlist the attractions, then group them to make them easier for logistics. Giving the trip or agenda for the day a theme (e.g. Food, History, Shopping or a mix) does help and make it. Keeping a look out on flight tickets (and sales) would be the first on the list once the destination has been decided, followed by accommodations.

Once you think you have a good price, just go with it and don't look back or check the prices again as the prices may increase or decrease nearer the date. I like to plan in advance to be prepared or on the lookout for better prices, so I usually start like 3-6 months before to check out the pricing (you never know when there might be a good deal so being prepared is good). Signing up for airlines news and promotions are one way to stay on top of the deals as well as following their social media.

As for accommodations, previously I gravitated to AirBnb for some locations like South Korea and Japan, but after my experience at an AirBnB in Japan that had bedbugs and was not the cleanest I stick with hotels. Just to save some money, it is not worth it anymore for the emotional trauma with AirBnBs nowadays.

Delve into the factors influencing your decision, from budget constraints to seasonal preferences. Plan an itinerary that captures the essence of your destination without feeling rushed.

Budgeting Like a Pro: If you travel in a group some costs can be split to lessen the burden. One such cost would be accommodation and food. Of course, it is also important to choose your travel companions wisely as trips aboard can break or make any relationship.

If you have friends or family in the destination you are visiting you could take the opportunity to catch up with them and ask them for hidden local spots.

Once you and your travel companions have decided on the destination, it's on to the activities and budget. The agenda for each day does not have to be time constraint, you can be flexible as long as you do not pack many activities within the day and what are the other possible attractions nearby. Of course if you want to leave it all up to chance, you can but for things that need to be pre-booked in advance it's always best to check so that you can make the most of your holidays.

If you are traveling with a group of foodies and don't mind sharing food, you could pool together to have a bigger food budget to try more food. If your group has a larger number of people, you could also factor some time for people to do different activities on their own if they would like (you are not the travel agent so don't take on too much).

One useful website is Tripadvisor to give you a general feel of your destination and activities. There are also forums which you can ask your questions.

3. Visa and Passport Wisdom

Do check if you need to acquire a visa for your destination and handle the process as early as possible so it does not delay your travel plans. Also ensure that your passport has more than 6 months of validity or your may be denied entry to your destination (or even leave your country of origin).

Singapore Flyer + Klook Review

The Singapore Flyer is at a staggering height of 165 meters. It was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world when it opened in 2008. Although it has since been surpassed by the High Roller in Las Vegas and the Ain Dubai, it remains the tallest in Asia. Its design and construction were feats of engineering, with each of the 28 capsules capable of holding 28 passengers. These capsules are air-conditioned, ensuring a comfortable experience as you ascend to the skies.

I was invited to join some friends from Malaysia (last minute) to go visit the Singapore Flyer. They had already purchased their tickets prior to the day, while I bought mine on the day itself with a little misadventure. While we were on the way to the Singapore Flyer, I figured I’d get my tickets on Klook since I could get points and all so why not?

I have used Klook many times before, and I would still recommend it for booking as there are deals and points which could offset the final price... Just don't use it when you are in a hurry or last minute (like I was - purchasing on the day itself while on the while to the attraction). 😂

Initially I was pleasantly surprised that I could pay with Apple Pay within the Klook App. It's a good feature except that being a last minute thing, it ended becoming a misadventure: the payment went through but I never received the confirmation email. The booking was also not in the app, it was missing and the best part was that payment was already taken!

This decision led to a few hours of trying to get hold of Klook support and get a refund. There is no hotline to call which made it all the more painful (and no Google does not help if there is no hotline number posted). After trying for like an hour and a half, I was able to get hold of a support agent via the chat function in the app (also very hard to find as it was hidden aware in some obscure part of the app). Thankfully my friends waited for me while I sorted out the mess.

The support agent from Klook was understanding and quickly initiated the refund, once it was confirmed more than once that I never received a confirmation email and the booking was missing from the app. The poor guy initiated the email twice and had to double confirm that I never received any confirmation email. In the end, I got the admission ticket the old fashion way at the self-service ticket kiosk. 😅

Lesson out of this misadventure is that, not to do last minute bookings on Klook to save yourself the hassle should you need to contact support or rectify anything. 😂 But as mentioned earlier, although it's a beneficial app that can lead to significant savings when used correctly, I would avoid using it in a rush or at the very last minute.

Alright back to the experience of the Singapore Flyer. This iconic Ferris wheel offers a unique perspective of Singapore. The panoramic views from the top are breathtaking, especially if you are right between sunset and evening where you see the skyline transition. Apparently on a clear day, you can see up to 45 kilometers away, catching glimpses of neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia. The view encompasses Singapore’s iconic landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the bustling Singapore River. The experience is especially magical at dusk.

We had the privilege to have a capsule all to ourselves. 😁

Best Time to Visit: For the best experience, visit the Singapore Flyer during sunset or at night to see the city beautifully light up.

Each rotation of the Singapore Flyer takes about 30 minutes, so there plenty of time to soak in the sights and take memorable photographs. For a more exclusive experience, visitors can book private capsules for romantic dinners, corporate events, or family gatherings (something which we did not do). There's also in-capsule dining experiences, where you can savor a gourmet meal while enjoying the panoramic views.

Ticket Booking: It’s advisable to book your tickets online in advance to avoid long queues and to secure your preferred time slot.

The Singapore Flyer is more than just an observation wheel; it’s a journey that offers a unique vantage point over one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, the Singapore Flyer promises an unforgettable experience. This will be a consolidated account of our wonderful stays at Oasia Sentosa Resort: we have already stayed here for 3 times and there’s more to come!

Excellent Hospitality

One unique and memorable thing about our 3 stays at Oasia Sentosa Resort is the hospitality and attention to detail: the staff from the doormen, receptionists, and housekeeping have been exceptionally friendly and helpful. It’s not often you get to meet hotel staff who are amicable and willing to lend a hand when needed or take initiative to open the door for you, offer advice on what activities or workshops the hotel has, or greet you each time you leave / enter the premises.

As mentioned earlier, we have stayed a total of 3 times at this wonderful establishment for staycations. The first 2 times were last year and one just recently. All 3 were with the hotel’s spa package which included a 60 minutes body massage for 2 persons, along with daily breakfast.

For our first 2 stays, Prince and Syrizat were welcoming and helped with the luggage and check in from the moment we arrived. As we needed to use a wheelchair, they made sure that preparations were made so that we would be comfortable.

Our 3rd stay was just as memorable, but it was a pity there was no longer complimentary one-way transportation to the hotel under the package. Nonetheless, we still found our way to the hotel to escape the heat and pamper ourselves again.

Check-in/Out Experience

Checking-in was well handled by Prince (coincidentally it as for all the 3 times we have stayed): when booking via the hotel’s website they will ask for input on the time you would be arriving. Each time we arrived around 3pm, and each time the reception were expecting us. The room was also available at this time.

Tip: Do remember to request for the QR code for free entry / re-entry into the island and Vivocity.

As for checking-out, Hajar and Saif did a good job checking us out. It was fast and painless. We even were able to request for late checkout for one of the times we were there.

Tip: If you are a Sentosa Island member, don’t forget to request for the points upon check out. You can also redeem your points each time you dine at Bedrock Origins. There is a cap of 600 points (e.g. S$600) so redeem what you can, however you can.

The Room

The nice warm hues and welcome snacks

The view which greets you when you enter the room. There are 3 bottles of water replenished daily.

The room, or rather rooms (since we stayed in 2 different rooms), were clean and welcoming. The housekeeping team (LiLi/Sophia/LiQin/Anna really did a splendid job and even added some nice touches as we were celebrating a birthday.

The clean nice comfy beds and calorie free towel cake were a nice touch

The Service Team were also not to be outdone by the Housekeeping team. The Jelly fruitcake was delicious (and also calorie free), and the little bathbomb were nice gestures.

In 2023, they had the usual toiletries for body wash/shampoo+conditioner/lotion, but in 2024 they started to “go green” (basically saving costs) and use the dispensers we see popping up in every hotel room. Still that is not a dealbreaker as they are using the Biology Smart Skin Care series N302 which I quite like.

If you’ve forgotten your toothbrush, shaver or comb, not to worry as they do have that ready for you and replenished daily: as long as it’s empty housekeeping will top it up.

Ok now that we have talked about what we loved about the room, let’s move on to something which could be improved. While the room was cosy and housekeeping did a wonderful job, you can tell the room is a little worn and tired.

Some where and tear can be seen in the room but these are really not dealbreakers (to me) given the excellent hospitality and housekeeping.

While the hotel did try to stay relevant and update the decor by swapping out the moss mirrors to modern looking painting and removing the cool looking telephone both in the lift lobby of level 3 to a boring Life Lobby signage, it takes away the personality and charm it originally had. Hopefully any other future updates do not make the hotel lose its charm.

Another little complaint was the consistency of the water temperature, it took a bit of effort to get the right temperature and it was inconsistent - alternating between cool / cold to warm / hot.

Overall, still a fantastic stay and we would be going back again!

Tucked away within the lush greenery of Sentosa Island, Oasia Spa promises a rejuvenating experience like no other. Located within the premised of Oasia Sentosa Resort, it makes it better if you are a hotel guest. Of course, if you are just visiting Sentosa and want to look for a relaxing spa experience for reasonable prices, then this is the place you should visit!

Since the hotel package came with a massage for 2, how could we not try it?

*Bookings have to be made at least 7 days in advance, so if you are interested do remember to book in advance.

*It’s also best to be at least 15 minutes early to your appointment so you can settle in and fill out any forms if needed.

From the very first moment we stepped into the spa, we were warming greeted by the receptionists and led into the waiting area where we had to fill out a form with our details and preferences for the body massage. Tea and cold towels were also provided. It was a calming and surreal environment with warm lights and comfy chairs. The whole process was explained so for first-timers it is not overwhelming

After we were nicely settled in, we were ushered into our rooms. Our massage therapists Celeste and Annie were fantastic at massaging the knots away! In fact, they were so good, we actually booked more appointments with them and would definitely make it a trip to treat ourselves more often in the future. We come out of each session relaxed and soothed for sure.

The rest room was well maintained and the resting lounge a nice calming place to hang out. Robes were provided in-room along with an ensuite to shower (when you need to). There are also lockers for non-hotel guests, and a sauna which we have yet to use (but plan to… one day).

There are choices of couple rooms or individual rooms and so far for our 3 times there, we had one of each. The individual rooms are smaller but cosy, while the couple rooms are great for couples or even friends/family were are uncomfortable being alone or for the first time.

Once our 90 minutes of kneading the knots away, we eased back out into the waiting lounge and were served tea and a plate of healthy treats consisting of nuts, dried fruits and raisins; perfect for after a massage!

To add on to the wonderful experience, unlike other spa places they do not hard-sell and charge high prices, the prices are reasonable for a spa and the quality experience they provide.

You could say that we kind of end up being regulars and have booked our next appointment already!
