So with the mission of getting milk and inspired other to travel I get in to this short travel experience through my neighborhood.

I live in Hallandale, Florida. I am located between the two most important cities in Florida, which are Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

We all dream about travel around the world, but how many time we give us the opportunity to appreciate our neighborhood? So I got my camera and went for a short walk up to my grocery store not only to get milk, but also to discover how much I am missing in front of my nose.

From Mi Barrio

From The street

Most of the architecture around my home is from the 70’s, but thanks for the boom in Real Estate of 2005 we start seeing going up new high rise buildings. Even today with the Real Estate market down still very expensive to get into those buildings.

The majority of those people in those buildings use those apartment as a vacation homes or “winter homes” if you know what I mean. So from September to May we start seeing around here more action.

If I go over the bridge I have pretty much all what I need to make my life comfortable, from grocery stores up to spas. If you come here and want to have a good coffee, visit “The Barista” located right on Hollywood Downtown, 5 minute drive from here.

From Mira mas fotos de mi barrio

I also have this sign that I never see before. The strongest winters of the region killed a lot of people during the winter time, so this time it was also associated with the darkness in life.

In the night of October 31 it was when those two world we communicated: The dark and the light time or the dead people world with the live people.

I am living to South Beach, I am a 30 minutes en car.

At the beginning it was here The Caddy Shack pizza place, which still running today.

The Caddy Shack become a popular bar, today at the roof read the Buckeye Bar. They serve pizzas, (the white pizza is my favorite), subs, (you have to try the Italian) and they also run special almost every day from hot dogs to paella.

To keep the kids busy they build 18 holes mini golf, then Karaoke in the bar, etc. Today they offer golf cart and bike to rent which is the best way to go around Kelleys Island. They also have the Whacky Shack where the little ones have a lot of fun. I am quite sure I can stop at any kinder garden 2 hour driving distance from here and ask to the children: Where is the Whacky Shack? All of them would scream at the Caddy Shack.

Dipper Dan’s Ice Cream is another big attraction for the kids, is their refreshment after doing the “18-hole”. The shops, I am not going to say that is the entrainment for the girls, while the boy watch the game at the Caddy Shack’s bar, because at the Beach Rack you would find Hawaiians’ shirt and Native sunglass for the boys.

Ok the Flip Flop shop we can say is for the girls, yes it is for girls. The good news, in my case next door is Erie Island Coffee Co. great lattes.

Keeping the legacy of the owner, his daughter is the founder of the Whacky Shack and another symbol of this island the Booga Wear.

The Booga Wear sales Booga t-shirts, I bet that in Kelleys Island people buy more Booga T-shirt than souvenirs. Booga represent the “booga people” the whole philosophy behind those t-shirt is to be relax and enjoy life in the simple ways possible.

Visit the the Booga website and read the history of the “booga people” to not only understand this philosophy but to understand the whole concept of Caddy Shack Square.

The legacy of The Caddy Shack Square is going to continue for many generations on Kelleys Island.

I am really happy that I have the opportunity to spend some of my time with the Caddy Shack’s family.

Alfredo de la Fuente.

One day in Put in Bay, Ohio

I got invited last Friday to Put in Bay a small island located on the Lake Erie. One of the locals Kelleys Island took me in his boat to the other island.

It was around 6 pm the lake was flat as a pool. The ride was really smooth and took no more than 20 minutes.

After getting into the dock at the Board Walk we walk upstairs to the “Cantina” for a few cold drinks.

For dinner we decided The Goat. It is located in a comfy building. We chose the dinner room, if that the way to call it, but they also have a full bar section and a patio where you can enjoy the good weather of the island.

I got, what the call a beer platter: 4 different types of cheeses, hard salami, black olive, green stuff olive, are you getting the picture, and crackers with a glass of red wine. This type of item should be on every menu on the restaurants. That’s how we got start it. I can’t tell you how we finish because I don’t remember.

After dinner we went to the captain’s cottage that is the way he call it. We keep testing some more read wine and then we were invited to Level 2, guauu!!1 a new night club that was open that night.

The Level 2 it is a Las Vegas style nightclub, I can’t tell the different because I never been there. The place has a complete full bar, servers at the floor offering drinks, VIPs areas and big security people. It was the firs night and was a lot of fun I am sure is going to be soon one of the top clubs in the area.

Back to the house to sleep to get up at 9 AM to go back to Kelleys Island.

check the complete set of 46 pictures

Frustration

The day is over and I still have a lot of work to do. I am tire, hungry and feeling that I didn’t enjoy my day.

Maybe one of my problems is that I didn’t found what I really like to do in life or my “passion”. I have a really clear idea of what I like to do and how I want to do it. I guest we all know that answer. In my case, the things that I like to do are not valuate in this society.

In this industrialize world the only things are valuate are all related to produce more of the same, or find new way to sale more “stuff”.

Any kind of art that can be music, painting, poetry, or even cook is not valuated even though we need them to live and usually and the end of the road those are the only thing we remember.

Spend time with your family or friend in this community. I am sure that is something wrong, but I don’t know what.

People in general should find way to produce in more efficient ways. I agree with that, but if I find the way to produce let say 10 cars in a short period I would still producing 10 cars and use the rest of the time in something else. The system we live in it know produce 20 cars, so know I need to find way to sale those extra cars and make the idea that at 10 years old car is a old car and you should through it in the garbage to get another one.
What I about if I give you the opportunity in your life to buy just one car for all your life, one boat and one airplane and the only thing you can change to experience something different is your holidays.

I heard ones that if you spend just one day in all the beaches in the world that are good for surfing you would spend 15 years going through all of them.
Think how many things are you going to miss when you choose to buy another car instead of taken a trip or maybe now you don’t have

Enjoying life

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb0c0yYVEeaOBtXkoOpeiwhmsA-R3dOnZOBMYUvHJ_qqWS4VX7iRCEDcdthfOPfJbl7bjKTJxDqht4zmK1H5VsNxQ96Ob8XbzEIoAE6C_kgBhSSPqGmqrdhBOZgH2Oj4oVH4YDBvKqSPI/s200/P.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213245385656754322" />
Today is a little be cold. The island is pretty quite so, I am going to spend all my day in the computer updating the info about my reviews in the area.

I really enjoy so much what I am doing. I wish one day we as a human being realized what matter in life and would give more value at those things.

I don’t know the exactly number but we all know that in America we spend a lot of money in stuff and so little to spend in our vacations.

We have to start voting with all dollars the things we value the most. For those who change their car every year, just hold the car for a while and spend that money with you family taken a trip. You can simple stay in the house for a week, cooking having dinner together, etc.

At the end of the road we always remember our good moments and never the new TV that I bought in 1965.

Alfredo de la Fuente

My days in Kelleys Island

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5GEcLdfS3uHXc-e2e1JRiZ1Wom_cPhtF7Ug7N2DgMArhu1Mb7arBh-tvPCdeYyE2aoHXN_L60b_m8-CpKVBOnYj8Jerv9nPqsBGDlmLpkNJRTtDrV5jd5GavllURbRR2cRfcCHn8ZVyA/s200/P1010011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212123377429152146" />
The graduation party was really good. I never been in one American graduation’s party before, I am sure is going to be fun.
When we graduated from high school in Argentina we have some kind of graduation party, but the real party is that the whole class takes a trip for 10 days to another city. Here are some photos of Bariloche : http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=bariloche%2C%20argentina&w=all

Changing the Economics principles

Changing the Economics principles

Today we have 1 billion of the world population producing “stuff” to the rest of the world. Mmm? Let me re-phrase that: “ producing “stuff” to the east European markets, USA, Canada and I would said Australia.
This balance between high production in one end and high consumption at the other end works pretty well in economics. But my question here is “this type of system works, for the natural behaved of humans and the World as a planet?
I don’t know the answer to that question but I have some data that I think is proving it doesn’t work. USA has high indices of suicides and still racing. Depression pills are being sale as milk in developed countries. At the other side of the balance a guy working in a factory only takes 10 minutes to eat in shift that goes for more than 10 hours, and then he doesn’t have the right to choose how many children he wants to have. Let’s build more factory and make this guy happy is not the answer.
My idea is to change exchange process, (getting & producing stuff), to a new exchange process of “discover and learn”.
Here I show you how as a developed countries can still contributing with millions of dollars to producer countries.

Instead of getting a T car lets take our holidays in Asia and spend $20 thousands dollars having fun over there. Think with that kind of money you can stay in Asia very comfortable for around 3 month learning that wonderful culture.

This kind of re-structure organized by the governments can take at least 100 years. Executed by the private sector, guy like you and I, it can take 10 years to start notice the change. Maybe then, governments instead of sending billions of dollars to relief campaign can start supporting this new way of economics by tax benefits for companies and individuals that are spending their money in those countries without getting “stuff”.

We already have a lot of “stuff”. A sensor located in a rear bumper of a car seams pretty handy, but how many people died by rear bumper? Let used our great mind developing for the health system, international law systems, instead of just a simple car. Yes I am waiting to see and get the cars that are able to fly.

Think about this new world:

• Reduce the production of “stuff” by half will solve a lot of the problems of global warming.
• Companies and individuals will stop spending energy in those developed countries at least 10%, (because they would be traveling)
• The soul and mind of humans would be enriching by the cultural exchange.
• Clear minds can produce more new ideas to make us live longer in this beautiful world call Earth.

Alfredo de la Fuente

Finding my self

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzf2totfh_swzfJelV4FpAgcFlvRuT3-GrCBxmQLLH_3w_FSlc4W95XStGwweDkUwLcUGwKdslT-yTlrzuj7JXUdTEfcMXSy8s-zfP2hxPXudfhBu0SQs3Vl-8uM6ae8-VZdAO1UbBrnI/s200/1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5197376969571045106" />
After visiting Cocoa Beach I went to St. Augustine where I stayed in a B&B.

From there I run back to Daytona to take a tour with Dusty in her Ghost Haunting tour.
The people of Cocoa, Daytona and St. Augustine were teaching me a lot. I got such as quality of information that I can write a book with that.

I learn how important is to have passion for what we do. I learn about respect and although that I-95 is the only part flat and bored in the State of Florida.

I was getting a little be overwhelming with all the new ways of seeing and understand things.

So I keep driving to Kelleys Island and my next stop was Jacksonville, Florida. Men, here I met two girls, I will say: one 24 and the other one 27.

One start doing a research for a book about the subject: “ If you are destroying the world”. After a press conference on UN she got her answer. The other one’s, works in a nonprofit organization to prevent or be ready if another climate disaster hit us or any body else in this World.

After spending almost 36 hours with them my mind shot down. Those 2 girls they are not activist, they are not complaining, they are not against this or that. They are taken action doing something everyday. The power of thinking and their passion about life change a lot inside of me. I don’t understand it yet, but something happened.

I diced to comp in a State Park for two nights. Today, Tuesday, May 5, 2008 I feel so much better and ready to continue with my journey north. Tomorrow I am going to be in Charleston South Carolina, but first I am going to make a small stop in Savanna, GA.

I am going to keep posting pictures and some of my experience through this trip. Know I understand better way I am so attractive to Kelleys Island Ohio.

SECOND PART

In Jacksonville I was a “green guy” for more then 24 hours, I met an illegal family from Sough America.

I met a lot of the greatest mind of United State. I always say the same thing: that is not an accident that this country has the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the world.

Alfredo de la Fuente
<link rel='edit' I am exited, I am anxious, I am nervous. But over all, I am really happy to be able to make this trip with such good wishes from my friends, my family and all the new friends that I met through the Internet.

My first stop is Hutchinson Island near Fort Pierce, Florida, a quiet place to relax and connect with local people, hear their stories and learn about the area.

Cathy runs The Mellon Patch Inn, bed and breakfast or what I call from the pictures on her site “a little resort”. Their rooms are decorated in a comfortable Southwest style with hand painted walls. Anything made from our hands has a mystery feeling of love, we can’t see, but make us feel like we are at home.

On my second day, I am meeting Jason from Cocoa Beach, who is going to introduce me to a local diner that “makes a great coffee”. He is a cameraman with a lot of local stories to tell.

In Cocoa Beach I am staying in a vacation home half a block from the ocean with a view of Shuttle and Rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center. What makes this property special is not the location or it’s warm decoration, but the family who owns this property. They settled in Cocoa Beach in 1895 from Columbus, Ohio. They built the history of Cocoa Beach through “the first jelly factory in the South” and also were involved in the “space program” since 1956.

Cocoa Beach is the home of many champion surfers such as Kelly Slater, 8 times world champion. For my friends, I will make a must-stop at the “Surfing Hall of the Fame” and learn more about Pat O’Har, the famous surfboard shaper.
After two days at this great city, I will stop in Daytona Beach and discover all about the Daytona 500.

My trip keeps going north to Kelleys Island, stopping in Jacksonville, Fl, where I am going to meet at local professional tile floor installer with his Italian wife. She has challenged me and says she makes the best and original “late” that you can ever tested.

Savannah, GA, Isles of Palms, SC, Myrtle Beach, SC, Carolina Beach, NC, another Jacksonville but this one in NC, The Rocky Mount in NC, Virginia Beach, VA, Ocean City, Atlantic City and Perth Amboy in NJ. Manhattan, NY I will be there for two days, to turn left and go west through Pennsylvania and then Ohio to my final destination KELLEYS ISLAND, OHIO.

Thanks to all of you for making this trip possible. Without your hospitality and your guide through your city, it would be impossible for me to find all those little secrets that make you and your city special in this world. Thank you so much.

Alfredo de la Fuente.

Day 1 Summer trip, Miami: Vizcaya Museum

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNE0sbojs6KJ83loQbqu7ShcyQiE3doBr0Ur7Dct3VbXNrxxGOuBWRY0jC_rkCvXPamrA7x83QshplaM81i5A1VL5CAz_Sg0j5xDInkJDNMCqO02_cJ2Ul3BIRWn12FudYYwMRQ-krsa8/s200/facegood.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187294611749391810" />

Today I start testing my gear for my trip to Kelleys Island, Ohio. So, I drove to Vizcaya museum in Miami, Fl.

Admission: $12

This house was build in 1910, huge house build in time where it was no roads in the area. It was a tremendous job. Of course took years to be build.

I pick this location because there are not many people who knows about this property. If you like to take pictures, here you would have a lot of opportunities to test yours skills. It is a great place to walk through European’s gardens without leaven Miami. The view of Key Biscayne is one of the best, and of course they have a coffee shop with a decent coffee.

This property is also used for special event such as corporate event, (which it was going on today) and a lot of weddings.

If you like more information send me your email and I would provide you with phone and contact information from the coffee shop up to the catering who was doing the event today.

I met today a few tourist from Chicago, get a coffee with a chocolate cake, a lot of water and enjoy greats views with a pleasant walk.

Alfredo de la Fuente

Trust

Trust, live with passion and good things will appear in front of you.

Getting ready for my Road Trip to Kelleys Island, Ohio

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_E1r0PrzIzfm8zbXD-FN6mWWlGxdpF_C18Z6PSIGbgxVWimzRcLHgX8N1WJI-cQ2wjdpUrhs1z1zeaP7ANkWcRzErnQzDpPgICdPvPr8qczkomfTbrnevGQrbyNhOmRyDRZPTW8t4uRU/s200/100_0286.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184707336337366242" />

Getting ready for my Road Trip to Kelleys Island, Ohio

I when to check my car to be sure is up to the challenge.
My mechanic and good friend Byron found a few things to fix. Everybody knows me in my town. 3 kids, 4 grand kids.
At this aged I am trying to find out what means:
Experience
Open minded
Hard work

This is what I got. For experience I believe that we learn not for how many years of repetition we do something. Repetition brings perfection. What makes some one experience is how many times we solve a problem. Problems challenge us if we want to solve them. To solve a problem we have to go back to our knowledge, our believes, our common sense. I love problems. Problems help me to grow.

Open Minded help us to be free. Help us to open our horizons. Help us to have more questions, more curiosity. Help us to be free, to know that is something more then just number,(salary, taxes, mortgages, tickets, saving, 401k,etc). Open minded is the way to know the universe.

Hard work? I always believed that was progress. I believed all base on the number. Through hard work I would find my goals, my dreams.
Today I know that Hard work without passion may help in the numbers, but would never help to get my dream, find my goals.

NOTE:
All those comments come from a good friend of mine. I am 30 years old.
Live your life with passion. Don't give your life away.
Thank you.

Summer Trip connecting with People.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgNDqBjWkrpzsuBxsBAHS3oHlOslexZTayRhlPKA-sEhsYIoCjF1GbjdKQu-MxiQueYQSr17joOxPRak4RIxYE936XRMfbtPmOZTolYoRMH-SbI5hznJ7Kbzq9rM54U7YH0lVCRgT9B3o/s200/P1010194.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180769736090197186" />
.The mission:

My goal is to meet the “locals” at every city and do what the locals do. So that way I can get more inside about you and your city.

About me:

My name is Alfredo and I am planning a road trip from South Beach Florida to Manhattan, NY and from there to Kelleys Island OH.
I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
