The Columbia River, which begins as a trickle in the high alpine mountains of western Canada, flows through great, forested mountains and down desert canyons. It is joined by the Snake River and then rolls with increasing force through farmlands, past volcanoes, and finally slices through a mountain range to complete a 1,200-mile journey to the wide sea.

Travel Ideas: Follow the path of Lewis & Clark on a Columbia River Cruise.

After Lewis & Clark, courageous settlers forged their way over the Oregon Trail. Lindblad Expeditions offers small, comfortable ships that are designed for exploring these historic waterways. Travel Ideas: Go moose watching at State Forest State Park in Colorado.

Travercial Travel Ideas Notes: State Forest State Park, also known as North Park, is located near Walden in northern Colorado (above Fort Collns). The park is best known for moose watching although wildlife native to northern Colorado can all be seen within the park. It runs along the west side of the Medicine Bow Mountains and into the north end of the Never Summer Range.

Travel Ideas: Go moose watching at State Forest State Park in Colorado.

North Park is considered the moose viewing capital of Colorado and features a “Moose Center”, an educational visitor center and store. While there, you can take a virtual tour of the park and observe any moose that are around. If you visit you can learn a new way of playing hide-n-seek in nature, called geocaching. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. GPS units are available for rent at the center. The Moose Visitor Center is near the town of Gould on Highway 14.

The State Forest State Park has a wide array of experiences available to visitors, including outdoor recreational favorites such as hiking, camping, horseback riding and four-wheeling. Winter sports of skiing, snowshoeing, telemarking, snowboarding and snowmobiling.

One of the most interesting options for lodging are the Yurts and huts in beautiful locations around the park. There are also cabins that overlook the North Michigan Reservoir.

Travercial Travel Ideas Notes: The Nahampoana reserve is a privately owned nature park located about 7 km. from Fort Dauphin on the southeast coast of Madagascar. It was constructed in 1901 and can be found at the foot of St. Louis peak. It is home to multiple species of lemur in addition to other island flora and wildlife. The Verreaux’s Sifaka is one of the varieties of six different species of lemur that you can see in the Reserve and is shown in this video. Unfortunately, a large percentage of the 77 species of lemurs on Madagascar are facing possible extinction, with 11 of the species in a critical condition.

You can see traditional craft demonstrations, hear live music performances, experience living histories, and take workshops that all tell the story of this mountain culture. The Ozark Cultural Resource Center is where you will find the park’s extensive collection of folklore.

Live music performances feature the traditional folk music of the Ozarks with songs dating back to European origins. Local musicians and guest performers perform ballads and fiddle tunes. There are square, jig and clog dancers. And the distinctive sounds of autoharp, mountain and hammered dulcimer melodies all evoke bygone eras.

Mountain View, Arkansas, is called the folk music capital of the world. There is a yearly festival that celebrates folk, bluegrass, country and mountain music. But the town of Mountain View, and the friendly folk who live there, all are totally into the music, as explained in this video. People come long distances out of the Ozark hills or even across state borders to sing and play in this magical town. Since musicians are attracted to the atmosphere, you’ll find professionals, amateurs, teens and seniors all converging on the town square at night to sit in musical circles and play standards and originals from every genre.

You can take this trip out of Seward with Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking. Your tour would start with a wildlife tour aboard a local charter boat when you are transported to AIalik Bay with stops along the way to view wildlife. Wildlife you can see includes harbor seals, whales, Steller sea lions, puffins, bald eagles, Dall porpoises, orca and more. After reaching Holgate Arm, kayaks are launched and you can paddle amidst some of the most spectacular scenery coastal Alaska has to offer. Crackling ice, towering glaciers and wildlife encounters are all part of the morning adventure. After kayaking, enjoy an Alaskan lunch aboard the boat as you make your way back towards Seward.

Yes, we know the video is in Italian – but it’s got well-chosen music, the scenery is beautiful and it really presents an idea of just what the kayaking adventure can be about. It’s not whitewater kayaking and anyone can do it. You’re all bundled up in heavy coats and safety is emphasized. The narrator tells you what’s going on in the video, but you can pretty much get the idea from the pictures.
