Oceania Cruises partnered with Royal Theatrical Productions to feature the music of Andrew Lloyd Weber aboard the line’s Riviera, which will debut in May of 2012. The production, titled “Now and Forever — The Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber,” will feature music from Webers famous shows such as CATS, The Phantom of the Opera and its sequel Love Never Dies, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Apart from the music of Weber, Riviera will also feature three other performances: Up in Flames, showcasing the music of Elton John and Billy Joel; The Dawning of Aquarius, a 60s revue; and Rock On, a love story with a rock-and-roll vibe.

Sneak Peek into Disney’s Newest Ship

PAPENBURG, Germany — New features on the Disney Fantasy were on display during a preview walk through of the partially-finished ship this week at the Meyer Werft shipyard. The ship makes its first revenue sailing on March 31. (View a slideshow of some of the new spaces here or by clicking on the photo.)

Planners were motivated by traffic-flow and usage studies done on the Disney Dream, a sister ship that entered service a year ago. Among the major changes:

• A pool deck bar has been replaced by the AquaLab, an interactive splash park that squirts or drenches kids. There are two, 10-foot-long “leaky walls”; as a kid covers the water squirting from one hole, another gushes.

• The bars in the adults-only lounge area, Europa, will be set up in a hub-and-spoke fashion. At the center will be a circular entry bar whose lighting will evoke a carousel’s motion. The four themed bars will be slightly larger than the bars in the District, the adults’ entertainment area on the Dream.

• In the Animator’s Palate dining room, diners will be given place mats bearing the outline of a human figure. Each diner creates a sketch within this outline. The place mats are collected and scanned, and a computer places three of the figures in a clever animation that matches them to Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pinocchio and others. In unison, they march and dance on the dining room monitors. Each of the nine dining room areas sees only the amateur sketches created by its diners.

2013 Itinerary Details

Bahamas and Western Caribbean from Miami – Starting December 23, 2012, the Disney Wonder will sail from Miami with one 6-night and one 7-night Caribbean voyage. Then, in 2013, the ship will shift to 4- and 5-night cruises from Miami to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean.

Mediterranean from Barcelona – Starting June 1, 2013, the Disney Magic returns to the Mediterranean, offering the best of Europe and a few new twists. Included are a 4-night option and special 12-night sailings that visit new destinations such as Venice, Italy and Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast on one itinerary and Ephesus, Turkey and the Greek Isles (including Athens) on another. All sailings will depart from Barcelona, Spain, including the season’s 7-night voyages.

Western Caribbean from Galveston, Texas – The Disney Magic, which begins sailing from Texas in 2012, will continue to sail 6- and 8-night cruises from the Port of Galveston to the Western Caribbean through May 2013.

Alaska from Vancouver – Starting May 27, 2013, the Disney Wonder will sail 7-night voyages from Vancouver to Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska.

Caribbean and Bahamas from Port Canaveral – In 2013, the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream will continue to delight families with a variety of Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries departing from Port Canaveral. These include 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings on the Disney Fantasy, and 3-, 4- and 5-night Bahamian cruises on the Disney Dream.

Adventures by Disney Options – Available on select voyages in Europe, Guests can maximize the magic of their vacations with 3- and 4-night pre-cruise Adventures by Disney vacation itineraries in Barcelona and Madrid. At Disney World, Obama reveals plan to increase U.S. tourism

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — With Cinderella Castle as a backdrop and under a cloudless blue sky, President Barack Obama on Thursday issued a message to the world: “America is open for business.”

Obama earlier in the day issued an executive order to ease U.S. visa policies and expand the number of countries in the Visa Waiver Program, with the goal of increasing inbound U.S. tourism.

“I want America to be the number one tourist destination in the world,” Obama told the crowd at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

To do that, Obama said he has directed his administration to increase by 40% the visa-processing capacity in China and Brazil, where securing a visa to visit the U.S. can take up to a year.

He noted that Brazil and China have emerging middle classes and citizens with growing disposable income, but that onerous U.S. visa policies mean their citizens have difficulty getting to the U.S.

“People want to come here, and Brazil and China are two of the countries with the biggest backlogs,” Obama said.

“That’s what today is all about: telling the world that America is open for business.”

Obama said the new tourism strategy is part of his job-creation plan.

“The more folks who visit America, the more Americans we get back to work,” he said. “It’s that simple.”

Touching on the difficult balance between maintaining safe borders and the interests of the tourism sector, Obama said, “There’s no reason we can’t do both.”

Obama also said he is instructing his administration to expand the Visa Waiver Program to more nations, such as Taiwan.

In addition, the Obama administration aims to expand Global Entry, a program that allows expedited clearance at the airport for pre-screened international travelers.

While it has been suggested in the media that Obama’s speech was as much about his reelection campaign (Florida is projected to be a key swing state) as it was about tourism, U.S. Travel Association CEO Roger Dow commended Obama for being “the first sitting president to say that increasing travel and tourism is important.”

If you’ve written down some resolutions for this year – go get it and tear them up into confetti, burn that list, crumple it up and toss into the nearest wastebasket. Whatever way you chose to rid yourself of those resolutions is fine.

Now lets start fresh and create a list of wishes instead for the New Year. Like with those old resolutions make them heartfelt & sincere or light & whimsical. It is entirely up to you but unlike a broken or forgotten resolutions, wishes are messages we send out to the would with hope that they will be granted vs. us making a resolution only to see ourselves break, forget or destroy them.

It’s simple really, go ahead and try it. Here some examples of my own wishes vs. resolutions.

I wish for better health instead of resolving to loose weight.

I wish I could travel more vs. resolving to plan & take a vacation

I wish to enjoy more that life has to offer, vs. resolving to go and make reservations to see more theater shows.

I wish to meet new new friends, vs. to be popular.

I wish I could take every opportunity to dance around to favorite music, vs. resolving to take dance lessons.

I wish I could help those in need when I can vs. resolving to donate time to a charity.

See, wishes are so much more attainable, yet are also reflective of what your heart truly wants to achieve.

So start making those wishes now. Here are a few more I have for all of you… I wish you all a very Happy New Year. I wish that in 2012 you find happiness, have good health and that you succeed in all you do this coming year.

Christmas Travel Memories – A New England Christmas

My husband and I have been married 31 years as of this year. When we were first married we could not afford a honeymoon, so we waited a year to travel to Hawaii. While in Hawaii I told my hubby the story of my past New England Christmas’s. He didn’t believe me, so we booked flights to Philadelphia for that year to visit my sister in NJ before driving up to Maine.

My parents were stopping at my sisters overnight to visit their grandchildren before going to Maine to spend Christmas with my grandparents and my Aunt & Uncle. We departed Seattle early in the morning do we would arrive in Philadelphia at a reasonable tiie, since we would be driving up Maine the next day. Well best laid plans flew out the window with unexpected weather in Denver. We ended up with a 6 hrs layover! We chatted, ate, snoozed as best as we could while we waited for our connecting flight to depart. Needless to say we arrived at my sisters house at 2:00am but my parents were still surprised.

Though my Aunt & Uncle knew we were coming up my grandparents did not, so we piled into our rental car and followed my parents & my youngerYounger sister up to Maine all the while following a major winter storm up the east coast to Main. What should have been an 8 hr drive turned into 12 hours but the beauty of the snow was inspiring!

When we arrived my grandparents were so surprised and please as punch that we had come. My husband was so surprised that there was already several feet of snow on the ground and it was still snowing! The next day was Christmas eve and we were spending it in a small town of about 200 people. Almost every house was decorated, at dusk my hubby & I walked around the neightnborhood and marveled at the beautify and peacefulness of this small traditional New England town, tucked deep into the Maine wooded countryside. After dinner we were asked if we wanted to go to midnight mass, myO parents and other family members were staying home but we had to decided to go, so my Aunt made a phone call. At about 11:30pm we heard sleigh bells and my grandfather teased us that Santa was early that year, when in fact my Aunt had called a friend and arranged for us to be brought to midnight mass via horse & sleigh. It had started snowing again, so we claimed in as we’re we’re bundled up under a thick pile of blankets and driven to church with a small group of other horse & buggy’s while singing Christmas carols.

After Mass we agin bundled up to take a sleigh ride home. It was romantic & wonderfully traditional , something my hubby had never experience before. Here 30 years later we still reminance about our New England Christmas. BTW – the towns people still to this day follow the same traditions, wonderfully kept to create more memories for the generations now & on the future.

Another “cutting edge” travel website was recently announced. It leads to the question of “how many websites does a person need to visit to get information about travel offers?”

Since we focus on the cruise business, let’s take a look at this particular segment to see if we can shed some light on the question.

The first thing to understand when you let your fingers do the shopping online is that virtually all cruise travel sites develop their prices from the same “feed”. For the digitally challenged, this just means that the cruise lines send rates via their central computer. This means for all practical purposes, all cruise travel sites offer up the same basic rates.

One great myth is that the cruise lines who sell directly to the public (mostly the mass market lines) have special, direct rates lower than a local cruise agent. Wrong, my fellow cruisers!

In fact, an independent cruise agent can often find you rates lower than the cruise line. More on how to take advantage on some insider tips in a moment. But first we have to get this off our chest. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU ONLY SHOP DIRECTLY WITH A CRUISE LINE????

First of all, that cruise line employee is paid to get your booking as fast as possible and move on to the next sale. And, heaven forbid, maybe instead of cruise line ABC you really belong on cruise line XYZ, what is the chance that the cruise line agent will say “Oh you really belong on cruise line XYZ and not us”. This is about as likely to happen as a Toyota sales person sending you next door to check out new Nissans.

Your local cruise agent invests time in YOU and wants repeat business.

Now onto those hot tips. Your local cruise agent not only views the pricing feeds from the cruise lines, but may also have access to what is known as group rates. There are often unadvertised specials available from time to time that include special benefits such as upgrades, onboard credits, spa treatments, complimentary alternate dining. Your agent can also check for regional promotions, senior and public safety discounts, past passenger specials and lots more.

Get the picture? Maybe instead of surfing a dozen web sites and seeing the same information over and over put a local cruise agent to work for you. They don’t charge for their basic services and often find these hidden lower rates. Let them be your personal cruise detective.

A new friend suggested that I tell my readers more about me here on my blog, so I’m starting a whole new section ‘Insights from Terry’ . I hope you enjoy these little stories of my life and adventures and get an insight as how I fell in love with traveling & exploring plus enjoy some more insight about me as well.

So here is the only time (I hope) that I’ll self promote what I do…
I’ve been in the travel industry for 22 years. Four years ago I went out on my own as an independent contractor with Cruises, Inc. I am a full service travel agent who specializes in Cruises. I have earned my ears and am a Disney Specialist through the ‘College of Disney Knowledge’ plus I am an Accredited Cruise Counselor through CLIA.

I write a travel blog with lots of information about cruises. I’m located in Virginia near Dulles Airport so I’m always close enough to fly away for an adventure.

My love of travel comes from my childhood where I grew up as a diplomats daughter and had the opportunity to see the world. I have lived or visited many places around the world and go back to several for the sheer wonder I find there.

I still have a very long Bucket List of places to see & explore. My favorite mode of transportation to places is via a cruise. I go somewhere, check it out and then if I want to learn more, go back later for a longer stay. Hence why my Bucket List keeps being added to! I really desire to take a world cruise for 60 days or longer and cruise French Polynesia, Tahiti, Bali etc…..Ahhh some day my dreams will become realities!

I’m not a tourist, I do lots of research to find out about where I’ll be visiting to find & explore the most wonderful unique places & meet the most amazing people.

Royal Caribbean International announced this week that the second Starbucks at Sea has officially opened, this one on their Oasis of the Seas.

“We are glad to feature the world’s only two Starbucks® stores at sea on our two largest cruise ships,” said Lisa Bauer, senior vice president, Hotel Operations, Royal Caribbean International. “Starbucks is a huge hit on Allure of the Seas and the new Starbucks® store aboard Oasis of the Seas is sure to be equally as successful. It’s in bringing such established and well-regarded brands to our guests which helps make a Royal Caribbean cruise the most contemporary vacation experience – what we call the Royal Advantage.”

Royal Caribbean premiered the first Starbucks at sea aboard sister-
ship Allure of the Seas, when she launched in December 2010. Through a licensing agreement between Starbucks Coffee Company and Royal Caribbean International, the second Starbucks at sea opened aboard Oasis of the Seas Saturday, November 12, 2011.
Unique to this venue on the two Oasis-class ships, guests can use Starbucks Gift Cards to pay with and not put their coffee purchases on their shipboard account.

When I was on the Allure of th Seas a few weeks ago I was able to enjoy my Venti soy chai, no foam, a couple of time with no guilt or having to buy anyone else something since I was there! Unlike other guilty pleasures this was a real treat for me. I wouldn’t say I have a Starbucks addiction, just a very big craving factor for me. For no matter how hard I try to make mine taste as good as theirs, there is nothing like a cup of coffee or chai from Starbucks!

And don’t think that the rumors of there being a brig (jail) on board are false. There is a jail and you will be locked in it if you do anything illegal or untoward. Security on the ship is a very serious thing and anything that you do wrong will be dealt with. And don’t think that once the ship arrives in port that you’re free to go. Depending on what you did, you will be met by the local authorities who will be more than happy to arrest you and take you away. And just for your information, the brig is located right next to the morgue……

So there you have it my friends! A few tips for an enjoyable cruise. And just remember, a happy guest means an even happier crew member….

The Coast Guard contacted the Captain of the ship the Norweigian Gem on October 29, 2012 at 10:00am to help rescue a small sail boat off the coast of New York. The NCL Gem was in route returning from Bermuda when the ships Captain responded to the distress call request. The Gem diverted from its route and headed to the small sailing vessel 2 hours away. The small sail boat had been Viagra in a storm & lost power plus was taking on water.

Upon arriving near the distressed boat, the Gem’s Captain sent out a rescue boat with a crew to assist the passengers of the sail boat. There were four men and one woman from Canada who were rescued & taken a board the Gem and are being brought to safety to New York City where the Gem currently departs from.

All the rescued passengers and the Gems rescue crew are safe with no injurys.

I love stories like this that shows the true meaning oh human kindness and that company’s like NCL & it’s captain show true kindness towards all people, no matter the situation.

it is cloudy,warm & overcast here in Ft. Lauderdale as Taylor Sailor and I bid a fond farewell to Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas. It’s as if the weather knows how sad we are to have to depart this wonderful ship that we have enjoyed cruising this past week.

So it’s off to the airport now, we got a one way transfer with KSA Transportation for just $10 per person from the cruise terminal to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. The transportation picked us up right outside the baggage claim area and took us directly to the airport. The whole process getting off the ship & getting to the airport went very smoothly and efficiently.

For any future cruisers, first of all I’m jealous but secondly I want to let you know that both my arrival and departure from the Allure of the Seas was so easy. It is stress free and so your vacation starts off on a great note.

Though I am sad to have to leave the cruise, I am glad to be heading home and seeing my family. It’s always nice to go on a cruise but it is super great to be back with my family after traveling alone. Taylor Sailor is sad to leave the ship too but agrees, there is no place like home.

Taylor Sailor’s Last Day on board the Allure of the Seas

It’s Saturday and it is Taylor Sailor’s and my very last day on this magnificent ship, the Allure of the Seas. Our week has flown by with not only our meetings and seminars but all the exciting things there are to do on board the ship!

This morning started off early with breakfast at the Park Cafe where there was a gentle rain falling upon Central Park. Then later we enjoyed our lunch at Sorrento’s Pizza and got a bit of shopping done. Then off to more meetings but the afternoon ended with a wonderful Ice Show! Though the venue was a bit chilly, a light sweater warmed me up quickly – Taylor Sailor enjoyed the coolness after being the hot Caribbean weather all day. The Ice Show was wonderful, the talent and showmanship made for a truly memorable experience.

Our evening will include dining in the Adagio dining room them an early night due to we’ll be arriving back in Ft. Lauderdale early for disembarkation, so no last tango on the Allure for us. We have enjoyed each and every minute and hope to meet new friends again as we all travel home tomorrow. Hope everyone has safe travels and that you all arrive home safe and sound.

Cruise ships are usually decorated with items that are pleasing to most people, there is art and the details that people find in the cabin staterooms. Taylor Sailor and I have found so far this week on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas that there are literally thousands of details hidden in plain sight for people to enjoy on board this ship!

Each time we walk through central park or the promenade we discover a new hidden treasure - today was a statue in bronze of a small boy who is peaking out behind a sign post. Now this week I have walked through there maybe a dozen times or more & this was the first time I saw this statue. The details are wonderful, not over powering but delightful to find, see and enjoy. So when you are here on the Allure of the Seas we should set up a treasure hunt game to find all these wonderful treasures Royal Caribbean has created & added to their decor!

Allure Meetings & Seminars at Sea

This week Taylor Sailor and I are attending the annual Cruises, Inc. Conference on board the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas. While we are enjoying the ship we are also attending many general sessions, meetings and seminars. The Allure of the Seas has a full conference center to accommodate any business looking for a unique venue to hold their meetings including large group areas and break out sessions. The staff and crew are going above and beyond to ensure all of our needs are met and each of us are getting so much out of each of our sessions.

Another plus is that we are not stuck in just one venue, with such a wide selection, we can roam about to other lounges etc and have the opportunity to experience the feel and look of the entire ship. I’ll vouch that this ship is a wonderful place to have to attend a meeting. While Taylor Sailor relaxes and I learn more about cruising we are able to both truly enjoy ourselves onboard this grand ship.

Laast night Taylor Sailor ventured out to explore the ship even more with myself and we met many eager guests and Royal Caribbean employees who wanted to meet and have their pictures taken with Taylor Sailor.

Since Taylor Sailor has been here on the Allure of the Seas with me at my conference we have been very busy each day with meetings and seminars, so to have a chance to get out and really explore was a blast for him. We enjoyed dinner in Adagio’s, the main dining rom on the ship. Then it was off to see the comedy show and then dancing in Dazzle’s one of the lounges here on the ship. It is a good thing I made Taylor Sailor take those dancing lessons because the girls were grabbing him and swooping him off to the dance floor all night long!

This morning was a late breakfast in the Windjammer Marketplace since we had the opportunity to sleep in for once since we docked in Falmouth, Jamaica. We have a tour planned of some historical sites and other sightseeing while we are on the island.

The Allure of the Seas is an amazing ship, Taylor Sailor and I would recommend everyone to come and experience all they have to offer!

Arrived at Dulles Airport really early, so early that thete isnt even any bright yet! We checked our bag with JetBlue, got to ride the new inner airport trains to our gate. Stopped for coffee, because if it isn’t even ‘bright & early’ then you know I need a caffeine fix even if Taylor Sailor doesn’t. All went smoothly and efficiently, so smoothly I could have done it in my sleep but Taylor Sailor made me wake up.

Sitting in the B Terminal at Dulles Airport, the whole area is clean and friendly, so I obviously wasn’t the only one who stopped off to get coffee!

Oh, a note of btw I had several TSA agents smile and wish me a good morning in a pleasant tone. Maybe it was because they knew I was going to be in the B Terminal where they were going to be doing a random ID check of passengers at the gate! Oh well, nothing is really bothering me cause I got a great cup of coffee!

Will be board soon, sp we’ll tell you more of our adventures as we go along.

Taylor Sailor and I have had a REALLY busy first 2 days onboard this beautiful, amazing ship – The Allure os the Seas. There is so much to see and do. The dining in the main dining room – Adagio is a wonderful experience with excellent food and lots of choices. I enjoyed an Indian cruise meal while Taylor Sailor opted for the prime rib. Both were perfection.

We’ve now enjoyed breakfast and one lunch in the Park Cafe right in the middle of Central Park. What a great experience. The lush greenery is all over even up the ships of the walls, so you really feel like you are inside a park! The indoor and out-door dining selections are abundant. There is out-door seating with large comfortable cushions, so you can sit enjoy a drink and listen to the real birds, small water falls or meander around some of the shops. There is an amazing tree created with glass art flowers and humming birds.

The details and art are amazing and keep you searching for something more. Well off to the beach for a day in Labadee!

Bloomberg and Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan today announced that Norwegian Cruise Line’s new state-of-the-art 4,000 passenger ship, Norwegian Breakaway, will make New York City her year-round home port. Beginning in May 2013, Norwegian Breakaway—which will be the largest ship ever to home port in the City—will replace Norwegian Star, and embark on a minimum of 88 cruises from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal through March 31, 2015

When you travel by your stomach, the challenge may now be following the latest trends — literally.

Anna Brones, a food columnist at EcoSalon.com, recalls sitting in a San Francisco bar when she saw a woman walk in, dragging a cooler
on wheels. “A crowd immediately surrounded her,” she says, “and my friend said, matter-of-factually, ‘Oh yeah, that’s the Tamale Lady.’ I
figured I better buy one of the tamales from her cooler — and what an excellent choice.”

Such ever-changing culinary buzz secured San Francisco’s status near the top of America’s best cities for foodies, as chosen by Travel
+ Leisure readers. Within the important food and drink category of T+L’s America’s Favorite Cities survey, readers weighed in on which
major cities had the best big-name eateries, neighborhood cafes, ethnic cuisine, and farmers’ markets.

Indeed, today’s most enthusiastic foodies seek out indulgences well beyond the white-tablecloth variety. Markets are a key enticement
for those wanting to experience the nationwide farm-to-table trend. Among the top 20 foodie cities, restaurant communities focused on
fresh ingredients.

We found nearly as many fresh takes on comfort food — such as craft beer–infused mac ‘n’ cheese in Minneapolis — and the
unstoppable recent trend of food trucks and pop-up restaurants. With more than 200 restaurants-on-wheels patrolling the city daily, Portland, OR, has food trucks for any craving, even Korean-Hawaiian fusion.

No. 10 San Antonio, TX

This South Carolina city embraces its traditional low-country cuisine — southern cooking with a heavy dose of coastal oysters, crab, and shrimp. Stroll around the historic district and you’ll see (and smell) plenty of foodie magnets like the new HUSK, helmed by James Beard Award–winner Sean Brock. It’s another charming side to Charleston, which readers voted No. 1 for quaint neighborhoods, B&B’s, and friendly, attractive locals.
No. 8 Savannah, GA

This Georgian city may be known for its coastal-themed fine dining, but AFC voters love it best for its small cafés — home-cooking “neighborhood diners” with a local-ingredients bent. One popular spot: the Green Truck Pub, which offers appetizers such as spiced Georgia nuts and a pimento cheese plate. Readers also find the city nicely unpretentious, with a relaxing vibe, good cocktails, and entertaining people-watching.

No. 7 Seattle

The Pike Place Market is perhaps the most photographed farmers’ market in the country — and it’s right across the street from the original Starbucks (here coffee is practically its own food group). A hot neighborhood for new restaurants is nearby South Lake Union, where homegrown chef Tom Douglas recently opened three restaurants, including Tibetan-themed Ting Momo.

No. 6 Portland, OR

While the Big Apple may be a nerve center for big-name restaurants, luxury hotels, and diversity, New Yorkers can eat well at any price point and have embraced the food trucks and comfort-dining crazes. For Rhode Island foodies, farm-to-table is just the beginning. The Bay Area’s Chez Panisse is still the mothership for foodies, but there are plenty more restaurants serving sustainable, seasonal cuisine, among them Baker and Banker in Pacific Heights. You have to keep moving to find the next hotspots, and food-truck lovers follow Off the Grid, a weekly circling of food wagons in different parts of town. San Francisco also scored in the top 5 for ethnic fare, coffee bars, and farmers’ markets. One hot trend: gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

If you’re going to keep up with the nonstop party in the Crescent City, you’ll need a full stomach. New Orleans won the survey for neighborhood cafés, and came in No. 2 for its zesty ethnic fare. The post-Katrina rebuilding has extended deep into its restaurant scene, with chefs updating classic Creole cuisine at spots such as Meson 923 in the up-and-coming Warehouse District, and Sylvain in the French Quarter.
