In many places throughout the USA, the hospitals are full and may not need any new nurses and for many just graduating this can be quite an obstacles to overcome and this is where travel nurse employment opportunities comes into play.

For many nurses travel nursing jobs offer the best of both worlds, you get to see the world as well as help the sick and injured people. Of course helping people is why you became a nurse to begin with but when you combine it with positions in Europe, Australia and many other great areas of the world it reaches an entire new level of excitement. Becoming a travel nurse is not difficult, as there are many different travel nurse employment agencies with long list of placement opportunities.

Many nurses are choosing to lend their services to hospitals and missions in places such as Africa and here you can find many different nursing assignments, enough that you will never have to leave if you don’t want to. Third world countries such as this are really benefiting from international travel nursing programs and the nurses as well enjoy helping and treating sick adults and children which may have otherwise died. Nurses are incredibly needed in countries such as this and therefore when you choose to travel internationally with your nursing skills, you will never find yourself without a position.

A travel nurse can choose to stay in one country for only a few weeks and then go to the next for maybe a month or more and sometimes maybe never leave a country they have grown to love to live in and work in. These are all benefits of travel nurse employment opportunities and many nurses are taking advantage.
You do not have to worry about your paper work, working visas, etc because the agency you chose to work with will take care of all those details for you. All you have to do is show up and enjoy your work. A travel nurse will see far more tragic and even saddening situations than a nurse staying within their own country. This means that you must be not only physically prepared but emotionally prepared as well to handle some of the diseases and injuries found in different countries throughout the world.

If you're with a travel nurse recruitment agency, the agency should be able to advise you on the licensure required and how long it's going to take to get the license and what you need to do.

There are no standard rules when it comes to licensure required in different States. There has been effort to standardize the process with the licensure compact where you can use your nursing license in the states involved in the program without having to recertify the license. There are more than a dozen states involved in the NLCA (Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators) program.

However, if the state you’re going to working in is not part of the program, the licensure process will differ from state to state, with differing CEU’s (continuing education units), processing time, cost and temporary license date expiration. Not many states offer permanent licenses.

Nevertheless, it shouldn’t be difficult to obtain a temporary license from most states. Just be aware that the rules and regulations governing licensure for the non-program states will more likely than not be different. For instance, in most states you don’t need to show your CEU’s to get the license but you may do if you’re renewing. To avoid being overwhelmed by the complexities of licensure in different states, the best thing to do first is to decide on a state you’d most like to work in and then do some research on how it works there.

One of the benefits offered by an agency is licensure reimbursements, though it’s usually a portion rather than the whole amount and paid once you’ve started your nursing assignment.

If you’re with a travel nurse recruitment agency, the agency should be able to advise you on the licensure required and how long it’s going to take to get the license and what you need to do. If you can’t wait and you’re desperate to travel straight away, asking your recruiter which states offer the easiest and quickest process to get licensed would be a good idea. There are some states known as ‘walk through’ states that can provide you with your license on the same day if you take the required paperwork into their office.

If you did have a choice to get a temporary license or a permanent one, there are advantages and disadvantages on obtaining one or the other. With temporary licenses there is a limited time period before the license becomes inactive, sometimes as short a period as 3 months. Therefore if you find yourself enjoying your work in that state and would like to extend your assignment or work in a different medical facility within the same state, at least with a permanent license, you have more flexibility.

There are benefits in renewing your license obtained in your home state. One is so that you can increase your tax benefits, but to do this, it means you have to keep a permanent residence in your home state and work from time to time. This is a possibility especially when you come home for an amount of time to see family and friends. However, you may not want to return to your home state and do not want the hassle of keeping a permanent residence, then if that’s the case, you can just keep the home state license inactive. Making the license status inactive is probably a good idea because it doesn’t cost anything to keep it inactive and the process is much easier if you want to re-activate the license than trying to reapply for your nurse licensure.

In the whole, the process of licensure is normally not a big problem that would stop you from traveling as the process is simple in the majority of states. It just helps to think about the licensure requirements when you’re timing your nursing assignments and organizing your various nursing commitments.

Getting burnt out from your nursing job is practically inevitable. It can be physically and emotionally demanding to the point that you dread waking up and coming to work. Many nurses that are fatigued or frustrated with their jobs feel like they are stuck in a rut and have no opportunity for growth.

Routine tasks can turn mundane and the small world of a hospital can feel like a prison. Even if you love your landau scrubs free shipping and the nursing profession itself, working day in and day out in the same place, with the same people, and doing practically the same tasks over and over can be taxing. For those who wish to see more and do more but still want to make use of their nursing experience and diploma, travel nursing is a wonderful and exciting opportunity to expand your horizons and make you love your profession a second time around.

Travel nurse profile

A relatively new nursing career opportunity beginning in the early 80’s, travel nursing has exponentially grown in recent years. The trend began in California, Texas, Florida, and Arizona to supplement the nursing workforce during the winter months whenever there were significant increases in patient population. Since then, a demand for travel nurses has increased to counter staff shortage problems, supplement the workforce during peak seasons, and work as substitutes for nurses undergoing training or new education. Travel nurses usually work for a short-term contractual basis and travel from one location to another for a designated time. They are employed by physician clinics and hospitals to fill temporary shortages due to absences, maternity leave, or illness in the nursing staff. The length of assignments depends on the facility’s needs and the nurse’s availability-it can be as short as a few days up to several months, with an average of about 13 weeks employment.

Reasons to work as a travel nurse

Those who opt for a career in travel nursing do so primarily for the travel opportunity and the chance to work in different settings and with different people. These are the more adventurous bunch that are not too concerned with job security and are more inclined to experiencing new things and new journeys. Most nurses who choose travel nursing usually do not have a family that ties them to obligations and are likely to be young and single. Travel nursing allows great flexibility that allows you to choose as much or as little as you want. Similar to a freelancer, you can control the number of assignments you want to accept and book. It is also a great way to assess different working environments and situations before finally settling down full time.

Reasons not t work as a travel nurse

Unfortunately, in times of recession or cutbacks, the first one to go in a hospital workforce is the temporary staff including the travel nurses. Permanent and clinical staff is obviously more secured in their job than travel nurses, who are more easily expendable. Traveling frequently can also be disorienting and fatiguing and it is not for everyone.

Before settling down on a permanent or long-term nursing job, it’s a good idea to explore your options first and expand your horizons. Having an exciting and different kind of experience outside your comfort zone can teach you a lot of things, not just about the nursing profession but also about yourself, the world, people, and life in general. As the old adage goes, you only live once. One of the best things about the nursing profession is that it is so flexible and recognized everywhere. Anywhere in the world in their urbane scrubs free shipping, nurses are in high demand and thus, traveling and working in different places in the world is an opportunity you should seize! While it is not the most obvious option, working as a nurse in a third-world country can be the most exciting and life-changing experience you can have.

What is a third-world country?

In general, third-world countries are economically underdeveloped countries, mostly situated in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The term “third-world” may actually be deemed politically incorrect and the term “developing countries” is preferred. In these countries, there is a significantly high level of poverty. Healthcare, educational, and other basic services are grossly insufficient. Other common characteristics include high birthrates, over-population, and economic dependence on advanced countries, and a very low GNP. Because of these, foreign aid and volunteers are usually needed.

Making a difference

As you can suppose, conditions in a third-world country may be austere and even dangerous. However, it offers a great opportunity to help other people, promote health, spread advocacy, prevent diseases, experience diverse cultures, and even a chance to make a difference.

Providing free healthcare

The most common type of nursing opportunities abroad is short term volunteer assignments similar to the Peace Corps, usually lasting for three weeks at a time. These “missions” are often sponsored and organized by religious organizations, corporate foundations, international organizations, or individual groups. Transportation as well as allowance for food and lodging is usually covered by the sponsoring organization and equipment and pharmaceuticals are usually brought to the site. Volunteers are organized into teams and have to make the daily travel to makeshift clinics located in remote villages or in the outskirts of the city. Residents of the village assemble at the designated site and volunteers provide various medical services such as adult, gynecologic, and pediatric care; they also dispense basic medicines.

Challenging encounters

A lot of times, you will need to adapt and improvise depending on the available facilities and environment. Also, you will encounter a lot of diseases that you only read about in medical books but do not encounter back home such as Malaria, elephantitis, neonatal tetanus, and various epidemics. A lot of these countries may also be undergoing political turmoil, armed struggle, revolutions, and civil war where armed civilians roam the villages. You will also have to adjust to the living and transport conditions-traveling on foot, riding a mule, horseback or in a four-wheel drive up mountains and across rivers, and sleeping on mats, on the ground, or on the floor. Indeed, it is not for the faint of heart. So before you decide on embarking on this kind of adventure, make sure you know what you’re getting into.

You finally made it through nursing school and are ready to put what you have learned into practice. The first step in getting the nursing job of your dreams is to compose a viable, nursing cover letter to introduce yourself to the potential employer and let them know exactly what you can do. A good cover letter gives your job search the punch it needs to be fruitful and successful. Nurse your cover letter with tender, loving care and you are sure to be satisfied with the end result.

All cover letters are subject to the same basic guidelines but the nursing cover letter must be created with extra care. Choosing what information to include in the letter is an important step in composing it. Writing your cover letter will be a breeze compared to the rigors of nursing school and the complexities of actually practicing medicine once you obtain the job you want. Pick specific skills and cite personal experiences in a short and sweet manner. Direct the hiring manager to your resume for further information. If your cover letter is Approach the task with the same confidence and skill required to accurately assess. Be organized, observant and keep meticulous records to aid you in the cover letter writing process.

If you adhere to the adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure then your cover letter cannot go wrong. Use your cover letter to prevent the reader from getting bored and the prognosis is bound to be favorable. The opening paragraph should let the reader know something about you in a memorable way. It should also allude to your qualifications. Tell the reader how you find out about the position and mention names if you heard about it from a nurse or other health care professional at the facility. Connect yourself to the institution in a way that the hiring manager or nurse is not likely to forget.

Nursing is an occupation that usually requires a continuing education. Many medical professionals are required to take classes in order to keep their licenses current. Nursing is generally no exception to those rules. If your license is current and everything is good to go feel free to mention it. If you are willing to take the necessary classes and further your education in accordance with the position’s requirements express your motivation to get it done. These considerations are especially important if you have been out of the job market for a while.

Specializing is also a common practice within the nursing industry. There are many different kinds of nurses and each specialty comes with its own unique criteria. For example, if a hospital is looking for an Emergency Room nurse a recent nursing school graduate with prior experience as an EMT or a paramedic would be given higher consideration than . If a surgical clinic needs a nurse anesthetist, they will be looking for a CRNA license and probably prior surgical experience of some kind. Match your prior experience with the job description in some way. If you are applying for a position as a psychiatric nurse you might want to make note of any experience you have in the field of mental health. A pediatric nurse wants to connect her experience to working with children and their parents.

Whether you want to use your skills at a hospital, a clinic or a doctor’s office there are plenty of opportunities out there for nursing professionals. It does not matter if you are fresh out of nursing school or a seasoned floor nurse with years of experience there is ample room to grow in this busy, ever-changing field. The nursing cover letter is a powerful job search tool that promotes your skills and talents for you, before you get the opportunity to do it in person. Make sure you cover letter is outstanding enough to get your package put on the short list of potential employees. Take the time to compose a letter that is able to fully express what a quality nurse you are. Then drop it in the mail-box or click the send button to secure the nursing job you have been looking for all along.

Have you devoted your time in becoming a nurse? If so, a lot of hard work must have been devoted to the process. You deserve a great job in return for time invested. The search for a nursing job can be a time-consuming and hassling endeavor.

I am happy to say the pursuit, though most important, does not have to be so stressful. The following article will address methods to implement in finding a job as a nurse.

Visit

Go to recruiting departments at hospitals, medical centers, and doctor’s offices. This is a proactive method and it is not necessary for an opening to be immediately available or advertised. Going in person provides a face with the name, will grant you an opportunity to inquire about current or incipient job openings, and will create the impression that you are professional and dedicated in your job search.

Contact

Get in touch with recruitment and employment agencies. Recruiters are there to be your legs, eyes, and ears. If you are still attending nursing school and do not have the time to devote to finding a job for when you are finished, a recruiter will make it their responsibility to find job openings and opportunities for you. Instead of submitting multiple resumes to various locations, you need only to submit one resume to the recruiter and they will do the rest of the work for you.

Internet

The Internet is a very powerful resource in finding a nursing job. Monster.com and Hotjobs.com are just two sites that will provide you with multiple leads to job opportunities. NursingJobs.org and NurseOptions.com are two more good sites to check out. The downside to taking this angle is just as you are privy to job openings, so is everyone else who has Internet access. Competition will be heavy.

Baby steps

Depending on your location and nursing courses studied, some nursing jobs may be more difficult to get than others. Do not be discouraged. There may be contract or training position available. It may not be an ideal situation or long-term position, but it will provide you with experience. The more experience you have the better your chances of getting a full-time job will become. It also will give you a chance to evaluate a place of work and the career itself before pledging yourself to a full-time position.

Who do you know?

Yell from the mountain tops, publish in the papers, and create your own commercial about how you are looking for a job. These are extreme means, but in all seriousness, let everyone know that you are looking for a job. You never know who knows who or when an opportunity may arise. Anyone who has ever looked for a job will tell you that becomes a matter of not “what you know” but “who you know.” Do not miss an opportunity in alerting people of your current situation; people hiring are much willing to hire someone based on a reference from someone they know.

Overlooked avenues

The following aren’t the most likely places for leads, but can be beneficial:

- School nursing jobs
- Health Department jobs
- Assisted living and nursing home jobs
- Mentor programs
- Traveling nurses

Conclusion

Be thorough, consistent, and positive. It may take some time to get a job, but if you use the aforementioned means, it should make the search easier for you. Interviews are equally as stressful, so it is recommended to buy a book or peruse Web sites that will provide you with interviewing tips. Good luck!

The health care industry is booming all over the world. The United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and even Japan are now leading the way in employing health care practitioners, especially nurses. This has also led to a boom in nursing school enrollment; in fact, some doctors leave their practice if only to study nursing and work as nurses abroad! Because of the great number of openings for nurses, and the even greater number of nursing graduates fresh out of school and looking for jobs, it can be difficult to apply to a nursing job no matter how good your credentials are.

You can have the best grades in the world, but have no people skills; a transcript of records, therefore, can tell your prospective employers that you were simply good in the classroom. You can have the best recommendation letters in the world, but cannot think quickly; recommendation letters, therefore, can tell your prospective employers that you showed a good side to some people. Lastly, you can have the thickest, richest resume in the world, but if you have no personality or ability to care for people, then you might not be a good nurse.

How you work and reason can be seen when you get to be interviewed for the nurse position, but how can you get interviewed if you have only a few documents to back you up? The answer lies in your cover letter, and you must not underestimate its power. A well-written cover letter for a nurse position should have all the elements of a good cover letter: it should get your prospective employer interested enough in you to interview you, and perhaps even offer you a job.

It may be a single sheet of paper with a few paragraphs, but a cover letter can do more than just cover. It will show your personality and creativity, as well as your potential to be a good nurse. The goal of a nurse is to provide quality health care to his or her patients in the best, quickest way possible - let this goal guide you as you write your cover letter. If prospective employers detect your seriousness in meeting such a goal, then you already have one foot inside the hospital door.

Avoid gushing about the goal, however, and stay away from flowery, convoluted language. You need to be brief: your prospective employers have little time to read long cover letters, let alone look through thick wads of resumes and transcripts. Write a cover letter of no more than four paragraphs, and present only your salient points. The shorter your letter is, the more attractive it will be to an employer. Don’t sell yourself short, however: highlight your strengths and achievements without sounding like an overbearing upstart.

Nurses not only have to be smart: they have to be people persons, gentle, and caring. Indicate that you can deal with the stress of being a nurse; state previous experience where you had to deal with long work hours, demanding doctors, and emotional patients, and yet still emerged triumphant at the end of your long day. Say all this in no more than a single paragraph, and use language that is direct and straight to the point.

Ask for an interview and provide all your important contact information. Moreover, do constant follow ups on your application, and do not be afraid to apply again if you are rejected the first time. Nurses are needed all over the world, and you only have to find a hospital, clinic, or health care institution that will take you in. Your passport is a great cover letter, so work on it well and give it all the care it needs.

Regardless of your motivation for moving your nursing career overseas, you will have many of the same questions as others who want to nurse abroad. Here are the answers to three of the questions that I am asked most frequently…

Where can I get a nursing job overseas?

Most developing countries are suffering from an increasingly severe nursing shortage. They simply are not training enough nurses each year to replace the nurses that are reaching retirement age. This is an immediate problem for countries which also have an aging population who are putting more strain on the health systems in those countries.

Countries like the USA, the UK, Australia and New Zealand all have a significant number of internationally educated nurses already working in their health systems. And there are still many vacancies that nursing recruiters are unable to fill!

If you are already a registered nurse at home, moving your nursing career overseas to any English speaking country is only limited by your ability to speak the language well enough to pass the required English language test. Similarly, if you are a qualified nurse who is fluent in a language other than English, Arabic or Cantonese for example – there are many nursing vacancies abroad in the United Arab Emirates or Singapore.

How do I get a job nursing abroad?

Each country has their own way of registering nurses. And nurses who want to nurse abroad in the United States, Australia or Canada face the added challenge of being required to register with the State Board of Nursing relevant to where they will be working as there is no nationwide system of nurse registration.

Generally speaking, you will have to:

* provide evidence of your nursing education

* provide evidence of your nursing license in the country you are currently working in

* provide evidence of your nursing experience, usually recommendation letters on official letterhead will be accepted

* provide evidence of your fluency in the official language of the country you are applying to register in

In the UK you’ll also have to take part in an Overseas Nursing Programme, and in the USA you’ll have to take either the NCLEX-RN exam, or the CGFNS exam… or both.

Finding information on how to register as an overseas nurse can be a lengthy process as much of the information is buried deep inside websites that are not dedicated to providing information to foreign nurses. You can find detailed, step-by-step instructions to moving your nursing career abroad in the Nursing-Overseas Ultimate Job Hunting System.

Do I need special qualifications?

Your nursing qualifications and any specialist training you have undertaken may not be the exact equivalent of what is required or offered of registered nurses in the country to which you are moving.

Most countries have a service you can use that will work out what your qualifications are equivalent to in their education system. For example, you can contact NARIC in the UK and they will check your qualifications against the UK standards and issue you a report.

Even if your qualifications do not transfer exactly, you will most likely be able to register as a general adult nurse. Once you are working in a nursing position overseas, you can explore whether you would like to upgrade your nursing qualifications by up-skilling in a new specialism.
