Oregon at Statehood: Local Legends, Lifestyles and Lincoln

This is a look at what life was like along Tillamook Bay during the decade before and after statehood. We will be featuring Tillamook's Native Americans as well as the stories of the early settlers that arrived in the area in 1851. Also included will be a celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. This will feature many of the artifacts gifted to the museum by former Senator Mark O. Hatfield. Admission is as follows: Adults $3.00, Seniors $2.00, Students/Children 12-17 50 cents, Under 12 Free, and Families $7.00.

A Sea of Opportunity: The era of Statehood on the Central Oregon Coast

This exhibit focuses on stories about the earliest influences on the settlement of the central Oregon coast including the oyster wars, the Civil War, gold fever and the Rogue River wars. These stories, told against the background of Oregon statehood illustrate the struggles and accomplishments of the early settlers and entrepreneurs of the central coast.

Whale Watching on the Oregon Coast

Every winter gray whales cruise along the Oregon coast en route from Alaska to Mexico, spouting geyser-like blasts of spray as they go. Thanks to towering coastal bluffs and a string of beaches set aside as state parks, Oregon offers visitors front-row seats for whale watching. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department park rangers are ready at the Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay to answer your questions and help you find whales to watch. Located on U.S. 101 along the seawall in scenic Depoe Bay, the center is a perfect spot for visitors to locate and watch whales as they blow, dive, spyhop and breach. Whale watching takes place almost year-round on the Oregon Coast. We watch whales in the winter from mid-December through January. Spring watching begins in March with a peak in numbers the last week and finishes in June with mothers and babies being the last whales traveling north. Summer brings whales that feed along our coast from July to mid-November. Dive beneath the ocean's surface to witness some of the most unique, dangerous and colorful creatures on the planet. Narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, Deep Sea is an immersive, underwater OMNIMAX adventure featuring never-before-seen, up-close encounters with a wide range of exotic undersea life, from the unusual Wolf Eel, to the ominous Giant Pacific Octopus, to the bizarre Rainbow Nudibranch. You Name It - New Paintings By Gary Hirsch

Gary Hirsch, the artist best known for his Portland public art work "Upstream Downtown" (18 colorful fish that hang from the S.W. Morrison and S.W.3rd parking structure in downtown Portland), debuts a new series of paintings at Galley Paradiso, 417 NW 10th, Portland, in The Pearl for the months of December and January. The Exhibition, "YOU NAME IT" features 20 yet to be named, acrylic and mixed media paintings. Over the last year Hirsch has been displaying the pieces on- line and accepting title submissions from friends and strangers alike. All of these titles will be displayed when his new work at Gallery Paradiso. Gallery visitors can add their own title ideas as well to the exhibition, which will be on display throughout the month of December.

Kids will be put in the same group with the same instructor for three consecutive days providing an excellent opportunity to make friends and bond with the instructor. Anthony Lakes Ski Season Opening

Opening depends on snow conditions. Alpine & Nordic Skiing, Cat Skiing, Snowboarding. Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Holiday Hours: Open daily during Christmas and Spring Breaks. Closed Christmas Day. Open Martin Luther King, JR. Day and President's Day. We are 19 miles west of the North Powder Exit 285 off Interstate 84 on a well maintained all-weather road. Lodge has a cafe, lounge, ski shop and rentals.

2009 La Grande Rotary Holiday Home Tour

Tour some of La Grande's most beautifully decorated houses all decked out in their holiday best. Both historic and new construction included. All proceeds benefit the Drug Free Youth program at La Grande Middle School, American Red Cross and Blue Mt Humane Association. Featuring 10 homes and businesses in Union and La Grande. Begin your self-guided tour at one of these two locations: McMahan Dental Office, 504 4th Street, La Grande or Historic Union Hotel, 326 N. Main Street, Union, where you'll receive your Tour Program with directions to each location. Enjoy and drive safe. The Anthony Lakes Winter Triathlon is an individual event consisting of a 3k run, a 3k mountain bike, and a 3k cross-country ski…all on snow! This dynamic event is open to men and women of all ages. Ladd Marsh Birdathon

The Ladd Marsh Birdathon is a three day event that offers an opportunity to learn all about the birds that frequent the wildlife area and the restoration of the marsh. Staffed stations throughout the marsh provide expertise and activities. This is a noncompetitive family event.

39th Annual Spring Pow Wow & Friendship Feast

Brightly colored regalia, the rhythm of the drums and singing that has been passed down from their ancestors are just a part of a Native American Pow Wow. There will be dancing, drumming, handmade crafts of different nations, traditional and nontraditional food available. Join in the dancing, or just watch the dancers as they display their skill and proud heritage. All drums welcome, dance contest, donation raffle, fry bread/concession stand, Native arts & crafts. 3 Rivers Race

Spring into fitness and join us for our 10th annual benefit ride or run circling the beautiful Grande Ronde Valley in Eastern Oregon to raise money to fight domestic violence in Union, Baker, and Wallowa Counties. Whether you participate as a team, a family, or as an individual, you are guaranteed a day full of adventure and fun. We have something for everybody including a 10K for runners and walkers, a half and full marathon for runners and family bikers and a metric century and century bike for teams and individuals. In addition to great food and entertainment waiting for you at the end, prizes will be given out for money raised, and first place individuals and teams. Oregon Trail Regulators Cowboy Shoot

Cowboy action shooting competition complete with costumes and characters of the old west. Located along the scenic Grande Ronde river at the Rifle and Pistol Club near La Grande. Take exit 252 off I-84, travel 4 miles on OR Hwy 244.

Elgin Riverfest

Held on the Saturday before Fathers Day each June. The festival was originally created to celebrate the Grande Ronde Rivers new environmental management quality standards. The festival has become the annual event with local vendors, an art show, numerous musical offerings, community celebration, yard sales, river-rafting, parade, food, antique cars, motorcycle clubs, public service exhibits and a variety of business interests on display.
