Grab your coffee. Let's talk about that underlying pressure we all feel on family trips.

A few years ago, I was standing in front of the stunning Fushimi Inari gates in Kyoto. The smell of cedar and incense was thick in the air. But instead of taking in the orange glow of the wood, I was staring down at my camera screen. I was trying to fix the exposure on my camera.

My mind was miles away from the moment.

It hit me hard. We travel to experience life together, but we end up working as unpaid documentary crew members for our own vacations. We are so busy trying to prove we were there that we forget to actually be there.

During my time at Google and Meta, and after travelling through many countries, I have seen how digital dust steals our presence. Those thousands of unsorted photos and half-finished video projects become a weight on our shoulders. 

Documenting your trip should feel like a quiet companion, not a second job.

The Problem with the Camera-First Mentality

Most of us default to volume. We see something beautiful, we snap ten photos. We see a street performer, we record three minutes of video we will never watch again.

This creates cognitive load. Every photo you take is a decision you have to manage later.

When you get home, you are met with a digital pile of 4,000 files. Because the task of sorting them feels like a mountain, you do nothing. The memories stay trapped in the cloud, unorganised and eventually forgotten.

Mindful travel documentation, in my opinion, requires a Mobile-First approach focused on intentionality. You need a system that captures the soul of the trip while keeping your hands free to hold your kids' hands.

Use AI as Your Digital Travel Planner

The stress of travel often starts before you leave the house. You spend hours in tabs, looking for the right cafe or the quietest park.

This is how I came up with a two-step AI workflow to remove this friction.

Step 1: The Research Engine

Before I even book a flight, I start building a context folder. I use NotebookLM as my research engine. I don't just look at generic lists. I find the best blog articles and long-form guides and upload them.

But the real gold is in the forums. I ask NotebookLM to scan Reddit threads to find out what people actually think about a destination. I added transcripts from YouTube travel guides that I found helpful.

Then I run a report. I ask the AI to find the common threads. Where are people actually eating? What is a tourist trap and what is a hidden gem? I ask it to build a database based on my specific criteria, like quiet mornings and good train access.

Step 2: The Living Guide

Once I have this database, I turn it into a Gemini Gem. I give it a clear prompt: You are my local guide for this city. You have access to all my research and you know my travel style.

The reason I use Gemini for the actual trip is simple. It is connected to my Google Workspace apps. While I am walking down a street, I can ask it for my hotel check-in time or the confirmation number for a train ticket. It can recall every email shared about the trip in real-time. It turns a static plan into a living assistant that lives in my pocket.

But I also use AI as a digital journal before the trip even starts. I write down what I am hoping to feel. Am I looking for rest? Am I looking for adventure? Setting this intention gives my brain a filter.

Once the intention is set and the research is stored in your digital guide, the mental load of where to go disappears. This leaves room for a more important question. How do you capture the beauty you find without letting the camera get in the way?

5 Proven Ways to Document Your Journey

Pick one primary method for your trip. Let the others support it to avoid burnout.

1. Smartphone Photography (The Daily Standard)

This is the fastest way to stay consistent because the tool is already in your pocket. But do not just aim and shoot.

I pair my phone with minimalist gear like Moment lenses. It adds optical depth that software cannot fake. The moment app is also what I consider being one of the best iPhone camera apps.

But the real secret is the rule of thirds. Turn on the grid on your phone. Put your subject on the lines, not in the center. It instantly makes a snapshot look like a photograph.

2. Short Cinematic Videos (The Living Record)

Stop recording long videos. Nobody wants to watch a five minute video of a waterfall.

Instead, record 5 to 10 second clips. Focus on movement and sound. The steam rising from a bowl of ramen. The sound of your child laughing at a pigeon.

These micro-moments are the gold that photos cannot capture. They are easy to stitch together into a 60 second highlight film when you are back on the sofa at home. I call this approach travel for photography because it changes how you look for scenes.

3. Voice Notes and Frictionless Capture

When the day is done, you are usually too tired to type a blog post. This is where most people fail.

I use voice notes. While I am walking to the train, I speak into my phone. I describe the smells. I describe how the wind felt.

I use Gemini to clean up these transcriptions later. It turns my messy thoughts into a cohesive narrative. It keeps the sensory details alive without requiring me to sit at a laptop while my family does an activity.

4. AI as a Real-Time Journal

During the trip, I treat my AI assistant like a companion. I might say: I just saw the most incredible sunset. I felt a sense of total peace for the first time in months. Remember that for me.

By the end of the trip, I have a library of these emotional bookmarks. They are much more valuable than a folder of random photos. Also as a travel blogger, those micro moments are important and build up your EEAT for SEO purposes. EEAT stands for Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness. In travel blogging, it is the difference between being a ghost in the search results and being a trusted voice.

Google changed its algorithm to prioritize people who have actually been to the places they write about. This is where the Experience part comes in. Anyone can ask an AI to write a guide to Kyoto. But an AI cannot tell you how the incense at Fushimi Inari made your kids sneeze. When you share those micro moments, you are providing first-hand proof.

5. Artifact Production (The Final Output)

One finished project is worth 10,000 forgotten files.

Commit to creating one single thing within two weeks of coming home. A physical photo book. A short video. Or a long-form post for your blog.

Documenting Your Travels After You Get Home

The real magic happens once you are back home. This is the integration phase.

I take all my voice notes, my heart-marked photos, and my initial intentions. I feed them back into NotebookLM.

I ask the AI to find the themes of the trip. Often, it notices things I missed. It might point out that I mentioned the quietness of the mornings more than anything else.

Then, I use Gemini to help me draft the story of the trip. I do not let it write for me. I use it to organize my own words. It helps me bridge the gap between a series of events and a meaningful story.

How to Keep Your Gear Minimalist

In 2026, you do not need a heavy bag. The stack is simple:

• A high-end smartphone with a good sensor.

• Moment mobile lenses for that professional look.

For editing, I use Luminar Neo or Adobe Lightroom on my tablet. These tools offer a mobile-first ecosystem. You can edit a photo in two minutes while you are waiting for your laundry to finish. When using Adobe Lightroom, I use my travel presets to edit my photos faster. No need to spend hours editing a photo. Select it, apply the filter, and you are done.

Decisions While They Are Fresh

Instead of coming home to a mess, make small decisions every day.

When you are on the train or waiting for your coffee, open your photo app. Look at the photos from the last few hours.

Heart the top 10. Delete the blurry ones. Delete the duplicates. By handling quick photo editing as you go, the heavy lifting is done before you even unpack your suitcase.

• Think Outside the Box (Literally): Don't be afraid to experiment with different angles! Get down low, climb (safely, of course!), or lie flat on your back to capture a unique perspective.

• Blurry Background Magic: Want to make your subject pop? Use a wide aperture (like f/1.8) to create a soft, blurred background. This draws the viewer's eye right to your main focal point.

• Sharp Shooter: Camera shake can ruin even the most well-composed shot. Keep your camera steady by using a tripod, bracing yourself against a solid object, or increasing your ISO in low-light situations (but be mindful of introducing grain).

After travelling across the world and capturing most of its hidden gems, I believe I know a thing or two nowadays to help you improve your travel landscape photography. 

For me, your equipment does not matter. Sure it can help you turn your vision into reality, but so does mobile phones nowadays. What you need is the know-how to turn your vision into reality and that is what will make the difference between a vacation photo and a travel photo.

So whether you are a professional photographer or just someone who enjoys capturing the beauty of nature on their travels, here are some tips that could take your photos to the next level.

Understand your equipment

Understanding your gear is essential to capturing great landscape photography. 

• Know your camera: Whether you have a DSLR, mirrorless, mobile phone camera or a simple point-and-shoot, make sure you understand the functionalities of your camera.

• Choose the right lens: The lens can make a significant difference in your photos. A wide-angle lens is usually a go-to for landscape photography. A lens in the range of 16 to 35mm usually is ideal.

• Don’t forget the tripod: A sturdy tripod ensures sharp images, especially during long exposure shots.

Personally, I like to keep my gear minimal. I noticed that carrying too much gear usually distracts me from focusing on the vision and photo storytelling I want to capture.

Master the art of composition

The composition is the backbone of any great photograph. Luckily you do not know need to know them all to take great photos. Here are the main one you must know

Rule of thirds

This involves dividing your image using 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines. The main elements in your scene should be positioned along these lines or at their intersections.

Leading lines

Use lines to lead the eye into the image towards the subject.

Foreground interest

Including interesting objects in the foreground adds depth and context to your images.

Pay attention to the lighting

Lighting can dramatically change the mood of your image depending on the location and the time of the day that you shoot your photo. In photography here are the most popular time of the day where the light is ideal to take photos:

• Golden hours: The hour after sunrise and before sunset provides soft, warm light, perfect for landscape photography.

• Blue hour: The time just before sunrise and just after sunset provides a lovely blue tone.

Try to avoid Midday sunlight if you can. If not, although it can be harsh, with the right techniques, you can create some stunning landscape photos too.

The good thing about those photography rules is that they can be broken as long as you know what you are doing.

Learn to work with the weather

Despite what you might think, overcast and rainy days can provide fantastic opportunities for unique photos.

• Overcast skies often provide soft, diffused light which is ideal for landscape photography, where the focus is on all the details and elements in the shot. 

• Inclement weather: Rain, snow, and fog can add a unique and moody atmosphere to your images.

• Shooting after the rain: Puddles, dew, and wet surfaces can add extra shine and reflections to your photos.

Over the years, I have learned that the weather does not stop me from taking great photos. On the contrary, it affords a challenge to find a unique perspective to give the viewer a unique look at a popular location.

Edit your images 

Lastly, don't forget the post-production process. Some light edits can go a long way, such as:

• Adjust your contrast, saturation, and sharpness.

• Use the crop tool to fine-tune your composition.

• Use a selective adjustment tool to work on specific areas of your photo.

I used to use VSCO and Snapseed in the past. But since I started taking photography more seriously I use Adobe Lightroom to edit my photos. I won’t bore you with the reasons why in this article, I already wrote a few that can you can find below.

Adobe Lightroom is a powerhouse when it comes to photo editing. It offers a wide array of professional-grade editing tools.

Here's how I use it:

• Exposure and Contrast: Adjust exposure and contrast to get the right balance of light and shadow.

• Color Correction: Fine-tune the colors to make them pop.

• Cropping and Straightening: Crop your image for better composition and straighten horizons.

Advanced Editing

• Selective Adjustments: Use the brush tool to make selective adjustments to specific areas.

• Presets: Explore and apply presets to achieve various styles and moods.

• Noise Reduction: Reduce noise in low-light photos for a cleaner look.

2. VSCO

VSCO is known for its stunning filters and film-like presets. It's perfect for achieving a specific aesthetic or mood in your photos.

Applying Filters

• Choosing a Filter: Browse through the available filters and select one that complements your photo's mood.

• Adjusting Intensity: Fine-tune the intensity of the filter for a subtle or dramatic effect.

• Saving Custom Presets: Create and save your own custom presets for future use.

If you do not have much editing knowledge and just wish to apply a filter on your photos and be done with the editing, then VSCO is a great option. However, know that a filter may work on some photos but not all of them as other factors come into place such as lighting, composition, location etc…

That is why I prefer to use Lightroom presets as I know I can be fully in control and apply the adjustments necessary to get the results I want.

That is one of the reasons why I decided to create my stacking Lightroom presets that breaks down the main adjustments I use in order, that can fully be customised by the slide of a button.

3. Snapseed

Snapseed is a versatile photo editing app with a range of powerful tools. It's great for fine-tuning your photos.

Advanced Editing Techniques

• Selective Editing: Use the "Selective" tool to apply adjustments to specific areas.

• Healing Brush: Remove unwanted objects or blemishes from your photos.

• Double Exposure: Create artistic double exposure effects for a unique look.

I used Snapseed when I got started with photography and it was a great way to get to know how to adjust settings for free. Now that I am more advanced with photography, this application has some limitations that don’t match my current workflow. But it is great for beginners.

My Photo Editing Workflow

Now, let me walk you through my typical photo editing workflow on the iPad. It's a step-by-step process that ensures my photos look their absolute best:

Step 1: Import and Organize

I begin by importing my photos into Adobe Lightroom. The app allows me to organize my images into albums or folders, making it easy to locate the one I want to edit.

Step 2: Basic Adjustments

I start with basic adjustments like exposure, contrast, and color correction. This sets the foundation for the overall look and mood of the photo.

Step 3: Selective Editing

For selective adjustments, I use the brush tool in Lightroom. This allows me to paint adjustments onto specific areas of the photo, ensuring that every detail is just right.

Step 4: Applying Filters (Optional)

Depending on the desired style, I may apply a VSCO filter to achieve a specific mood or aesthetic. It's a quick way to add character to your photos.

Step 5: Final Touches

I pay attention to the finer details, such as sharpening, noise reduction, and lens corrections. These subtle touches can make a significant difference in the overall quality of the photo.

Step 6: Export and Share

Once I'm satisfied with the edits, I export the final image and share it on my blog, social media, or with clients.

As simple as setting it and forgetting its formula. Once your blog is published and you respect the main SEO rules, you only need to wait to see more traffic coming to your website.

My best tip would be to create a marketing funnel and collect email addresses for your newsletter. Encouraging your visitors to sign up for your newsletter will not only allow them to get to know you and your content better but also build rapport with them. Collecting emails also allows you to bring back visitors to your website anytime you publish a new blog post. It will allow you not to worry about where to promote your latest blog article.

You should create a pricing guide or brochure that outlines your packages and prices. 

I like to create a photography pricing guide with details of the way I work and what to expect from the moment the client books me until I deliver the digital images.

You can use tools like Canva, Adobe Express or an AI tool called GammaApp. You just need to select a template and customise it the way you like. Here is an example.

Pick the format that you’d like. I usually use the webpage format.

then enter the prompt of what you wish to create. In this case a pricing guide listing all your photography services and the benefits for your clients.

Select your theme and that’s it, the AI will then take care of creating the template for you with the right layout, the images and the text.

You can customise it as you like afterwards. But using Gamma.app will save you a ton of time thinking about the layout of your presentation and building everything from scratch.

I use it to send over quotes to my clients and it takes me 5 to 10 minutes to create, customise it and send a copy to my client.

Business Side Of Photography

The business is the most dreaded aspect of any photographer I know.

Photographers are creative, they just want to create and be recognised for their work. However, taking photos as a professional photographer is only the tip of the iceberg as a business.

The rest is about branding, marketing and managing the business and client relationship.

This is not easy and if neglected it will affect your business big time as you won’t get the financial results you wish.

This is the reason why so many wannabe photographers fail.

Luckily for you, there are now many photography marketplaces that can do the marketing for you like Airbnb Experience, Flytographers, PicTrip etc… however, those will be work assignments, and you will share your revenue with the platform promoting your profile, you might not end up being as creative as you wish and end up doing the job just to pay for the bills at the end of the month.

I’d recommend using it to complement your monthly revenue goal but not as a full-time gig.

What I recommend to any business owners nowadays is to focus their efforts on social media.

Building an audience will get you further than your competition.

Why?

Because you will be able to get repeat customers if your marketing is done correctly.

Building an audience online is no rocket science. Focus on the following pillars you feel the most comfortable with:

• Share inspirational content

• Share entertaining content

• Share educational content

Then, you just need to be consistent and publish at a regular frequency. I’d recommend it at least 3 times a week.

These 3 aspects of photography I believe are the most important to be aware of before starting your photography business. The bad news is that the competition nowadays is really high. There are very talented photographers out there.

The good news though is that it is not because photographers are talented that they are successful.

Many photographers can be good at only one thing in photography but excellent in business and get clients on a regular basis. While others might be very talented but have no clue of how to market themselves and work with clients willing to book them.

A tripod: Night photography often requires longer exposures, which can be difficult to achieve if you are trying to handhold your phone. A tripod or other stabilizing device can help to keep your phone steady and reduce camera shake, resulting in sharper photos. Even if you use the night mode feature of your camera, you still need to keep your phone stable for a while before the photo is taken or the result will be blurry.

I personally use the @manfrottoimaginemore mini tripod. It is small enough to fit in a sling bag or jacket pocket.

A phone holder that rotates to shoot vertically and landscape.

A remote. This will allow you to snap a shot without tapping your screen and reduce camera shake. Alternatively, you can also use the timer feature

A camera app with manual controls: Most mobile phone cameras come with a built-in camera app that provides basic controls such as ISO, exposure, and white balance. Those manual controls can give you more precise control over your photos and help you to achieve the results you want.

Get familiar with the manual mode of your mobile camera app

Most mobile phone cameras come with a built-in camera app that provides basic controls such as ISO, exposure, and white balance.

Another important technique for low-light photography is to use a higher ISO. ISO is a measure of a camera's sensitivity to light.

In low light, you'll need to use a higher ISO to ensure that your camera is capturing enough light to create an image.

However, keep in mind that using a higher ISO can also lead to an increase in noise in your photos.

So, try to find a balance between the ISO and the shutter speed, but don't be afraid to experiment with different settings to see what works best for you.

Play with the light to highlight the subject of your photo

Another technique that can be helpful in low-light photography is to focus on specific areas of your image.

It can be difficult to get the whole image in focus in low light, so try focusing on a specific area or subject within your image. This will help to ensure that the most important parts of your photo are sharp and in focus.

Third-party app

Finally, experimenting with different apps or camera modes can be a great way to improve your low-light photography.

If your smartphone does not have a manual mode, there are also many third-party camera apps that offer advanced manual controls, such as manual focus and manual exposure, which can help you to capture the perfect low-light shot.

My favourite app is Moment app. I have used it for years for photos but also for videos and it is very user-friendly.

Low-light photography can be a difficult task, but with the right techniques and tools, it is possible to master it with your smartphone camera.

Remember to keep your camera steady, experiment with different ISO and shutter speed settings, experiment with other light sources, focus on specific areas of your image, and don't be afraid to try different apps or camera modes.

Traveling solo as a photographer can be a rewarding and enriching experience, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in your craft and explore new destinations on your own terms. However, it can also be intimidating, especially if you're not used to traveling alone. As I am currently planning my next solo trip, I thought I’d share a few tips I have used to help you make the most of your solo photography adventures.

Plan ahead

It's always a good idea to do some research and planning before setting out on a solo trip, especially if you're travelling to a new and unfamiliar destination. Look into accommodation options, transportation, and any local laws or customs that you should be aware of.

My favourite resources to plan my future trips are:

• Pinterest. just search for “top things to do in destination” or “destination travel guide”

• Instagram. Just search for the hashtag or location of your destination. I wrote a complete guide on how I use Instagram to scoot for locations and plan my future trips. (Link below)

• Google maps. This is ideal for searching for restaurants or activities to do. You can also group your activities by location and plan how long it would take you to go from one point to another. You can also create and download an offline map that you will be able to use even if you do not have internet.

Stay safe

While solo travel can be exciting, it's important to stay safe and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

This means keeping your valuables close and being aware of your surroundings, especially at night.

It's also a good idea to let someone know of your itinerary and to have a plan in case of an emergency.

When I travel I always try to keep it low-key. I would not show signs that I carry something valuable with me. That’s why I love mobile photography too, it allows me to carry everything I need in a sling that I carry with me at all times.

Embrace the solitude

One of the benefits of travelling solo as a photographer is the opportunity to immerse yourself fully in your craft.

Take the time to explore and photograph new places at your own pace, and don't be afraid to spend some time alone with your camera.

You own your schedule. If you want to wake up at 4 am to catch the sunrise and no crowd you can do it.

You can stay at a location as long as you like. There is no rush, you are the one in control.

Make connections

While it's important to respect your own boundaries and be independent, it's also good to make connections with the people you meet on your travels.

Whether it's chatting with locals or connecting with other photographers, these relationships can enrich your experience and provide valuable insights and inspiration.

Instagram is a great medium for that. Anytime I plan to go to a new destination solo, I always browse Instagram a few weeks before my trip to find local photographers’ accounts and reach out to them once I land to meet up.

You can also look for pub crawls or walking tours of the city. It is a great way to meet people, learn more about the city's history and visit the city with a local.

Facebook groups can also be helpful. Just type your destination name, and select the groups that are the most relevant.

I personally belong to a content creator Facebook group called Lost Creator Academy and we are spread all over the world. It is a great way to get to know members of the community while travelling to a new city.

Have fun

Above all, remember to have fun and enjoy the freedom and flexibility that solo travel brings. Embrace new experiences and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone – that's what solo travel is all about!

One of the first things to consider is the camera or device you will use.

Many smartphones have high-quality cameras and offer a wide range of features such as self-timer and portrait mode.

Before taking a picture, think about the composition and background. Try different angles and poses to find the most flattering and visually interesting shot.

Using a tripod or a flat surface to prop up your camera can also be helpful for getting the perfect angle.

You can even try using a remote or voice command to take the picture.

Experiment with different lighting and settings to find the look you like best. Remember to have fun and be confident in yourself, the final picture will reflect that.

Here are a few travel stories from when I travelled solo to a few countries.

Exploring the Greek Islands

I travelled to the Greek islands solo and it was an incredible experience.

I spent a week exploring the islands of Santorini, Mykonos, and Ios, and each one was so unique and beautiful.

In Santorini, I spent my days photographing the iconic blue-domed churches and the stunning sunsets over the caldera.

In Mykonos, I captured the vibrant nightlife and the stunning beaches.

And in Ios, I photographed the sunsets and the charming villages nestled in the hills.

The great thing about the Greek islands is that you can get amazing shots at sunsets which leaves you the rest of the day to explore or rest as you please.

Visiting Lisbon and its Surroundings

I also travelled solo to Lisbon and the surrounding areas of Portugal.

The city itself was full of charming streets and colourful buildings, making it a photographer's dream.

I spent my days exploring the narrow streets of the Alfama neighbourhood and the historic Belem district, capturing the vibrant street life and the stunning views of the city.

I also took a day trip to Sintra to photograph the stunning palaces and gardens. I highly recommend you visit it if you pass by Lisbon.

Visiting San Francisco

I travelled to San Francisco solo and it was an amazing experience.

The city itself is full of iconic landmarks like the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the painted ladies, the Palace of Fine Arts, and Lombard Streets.

I did a hike from Lands End Lookout to Mile Rock Beach with a unique view over the Golden Gate Bridge.

San Francisco has some amazing speakeasies if you are a fan of cocktails you will be served. But watch out at night as the streets can get dangerous. I’d recommend grabbing a uber to move around and even order it while you are still indoors so that you do not have to wait outside by yourself.

Solo travel as a photographer can be an incredible experience, full of freedom and opportunity. With a little planning and some basic safety precautions, you'll be well on your way to capturing some amazing photos and creating lasting memories.

As a photographer, having the right gear in your camera bag can make all the difference when it comes to capturing great photos and videos. Here's a look at what's in my camera bag and why I choose to carry these specific items:

Travel Camera tripod

You know what they say about tripods. Invest into one and it will last you a lifetime. This tripod has been with me since 2016 and still does the job. It folds in a very compact form that fits in a backpack. It is very light to carry around and can transform into a monopod if needed. That's true quality and budget friendly

iPad Air 4

I like to edit my photos on the go, and the iPad Air 4 is a great device for this. It has a fast processor and a large, high-resolution display, making it easy to edit and view my photos in detail. The screen is also big enough to edit small details I’d miss if I’d be editing on my phone.

This has become my go-to device to edit my photos and videos.

Lexar memory cards (128GB)

I always carry large memory cards with me to ensure that I have plenty of storage space for all my photos and videos. The Lexar memory cards so far are fast and reliable since I started photography, which is important when I'm shooting in continuous burst mode or recording video.

Pro tip: Make sure to take a memory card with a fast data transfer of up to 300Mb especially if you are shooting in continuous bursts or recording videos. If the data transfer is too slow, you’ll be missing a moment while your camera remains blank writing the data on the card.

Manfrotto small tripod

A tripod is essential for any photographer, and the Manfrotto small tripod is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry with me wherever I go. It's great for stabilizing my camera and capturing sharp photos, especially in low-light conditions when I need to use a long exposure.

It also fits easily in my sling bag or even inside my jacket pocket!

Samsung SSD 2TB hard drive

I always carry a hard drive with me to back up my photos and videos. The Samsung SSD hard drive is fast and reliable, and the 2TB capacity provides plenty of storage space. I connect it to my iPad with a dedicated USB C dongle to transfer my photos and edit them on the go.

Why SSD and not the normal one you may ask? for 2 reasons:

• Because if like me you travel often, you do not want to lose your data on the go. The main advantage of using an SSD card is that they do not have any moving parts, SSDs are also much lighter than traditional hard drives.

• An SSD drive can read and write data at speeds of up to 500MB/s, while a typical hard drive has a read speed of around 100MB/s and a write speed of around 60MB/s. This helps with launching apps faster and editing my photos and videos at optimum speed.

Sony a6300

This is my main camera since 2017, and I love it for its compact size and excellent image quality of up to 24MP.

It's great for a wide range of subjects, from landscapes to portraits, and the autofocus is fast and accurate.

It has a fast auto-focus speed, up to 4K movie recording, one-touch remote sharing to transfer photos from the camera to my phone or tablet wirelessly and finally dust and moisture-resistant.

Ideal travel camera that I own since 2017.

18-105mm G Master lens f.4

If there is one lens I’d recommend to anyone shooting on Sony mirrorless cameras, it is this one.

This is a versatile all-around lens that's great for a wide range of subjects. The G Master series is known for its excellent image quality, and this lens is no exception. It is a great one for travel photography and videography with its internal OSS (Optical Steady Shot) and ensures that the lens has optical image stabilisation and your images remain sharp.

Despite a fixed aperture of f.4, it does the job.

Oppo Find X3 Neo

I always carry this smartphone with me as a backup. It has a great camera that's perfect for capturing candid moments and street scenes either by day or by night.
I use it mainly to shoot videos as it can shoot up to 4K 60 FPS, has an integrated AI that helps to stabilise the videos and also works great in low light conditions.

iPhone SE 2020

I carry this phone as my main smartphone. Mainly because I am using the iOS eco-system and it makes my life easier to transfer data from one device to another or via iCloud.

It has a great camera that's perfect for capturing candid moments and street scenes too. The videos are very well-stabilised too.

I also enjoy the small form factor of this phone compared to the giant ones that come out these days.

Hohem iSteady X gimbal

I like to capture smooth video footage, and the Hohem iSteady X gimbal is a great tool for this. It's easy to use and provides excellent stabilization, making it perfect for vlogging or capturing action shots. I mainly use it to shoot time-lapses and hyperlapses.

Phone holder

I always carry a phone holder with me so that I can mount my smartphone on my tripod or gimbal for stable shots.

Phone remote control

I use a phone remote control to control my camera for capturing self-portraits or group photos. It is small and compatible with iOS and Android devices.

SD card holder

I like to keep my memory cards organized and protected, and an SD card holder or case is a great way to do this.
It keeps my cards safe and makes it easy to find the one I need. I never format my SD cards during a trip. If a card is full, I would back it up on my hard drive and take another formatted one.
I’d wait until I get back home and finish my edit to format the cards.

2 camera batteries and Charger

I always carry a couple of extra camera batteries with me, as you never know when you might need them. Having a spare battery ensures that I can keep shooting even if my main battery runs out of power.

I carry chargers for all my gear, including my camera, smartphone, and other devices. This ensures that I can keep everything powered up and ready to go.

I usually charge all my devices in the evening to be ready the next morning to go out and shoot.

USB-C dongle and card reader

I like to be able to transfer my photos and videos from my camera to my laptop or other devices, and a USB-C dongle and card reader make this easy when I am travelling.

Sling camera bag

I prefer to travel light, and a sling bag is a great way to do this. It's compact and convenient and allows me to carry my gear without feeling weighed down. It’s minimalist and big enough to carry my main camera with 2 lenses and accessories safely.

Rode wireless microphone

I like to capture high-quality audio when I'm shooting video, and a wireless microphone is a great way to do this. It does not take much space, It's compact and easy to use and allows me to capture clear, clean audio without being tethered to my camera. I mainly use this to shoot my online courses and tutorial videos.

It is a bit pricey but if you want some good sound quality, I recommend it.

Overall, I choose to carry minimal gear with me when I'm on the go because it allows me to travel light and be more flexible. I use to carry a bag full of camera gear in the past. Needless to say, it was heavy and it was slowing me down to capture moments of my travels.

Nowadays I choose convenience. I prefer to have just the essentials with me so that I can focus on capturing great photos and videos without being weighed down by unnecessary gear.

Some additional gear I’m planning to add to my travel photography gear would be:

Sony a7c

You got the power of a full-frame camera in a mirrorless camera body. It also has a 5 axis stabilisation, ideal for videos when you are on the go and do not carry a gimbal with you. And a flip screen, ideal when vlogging or creating video tutorials.

Being a solo creator and having to shoot videos by yourself without a flip screen is a hassle! So this would save me lots of time.

DJI mavic mini 3

I used to own the DJI spark before I crashed it! (RIP) and I really enjoyed taking photos from the air. It really gives you a different perspective on location you can see everyday.

Plus this one weighs less than 250g which means that you do not need to pass a drone license to fly it. And it is also compact and lightweight which is ideal for traveling.

Insta 360 X 3

It is amazing what it is possible of creating using 350 cameras nowadays. But the big pet peeve I used to have with those was their softwares! They were not user friendly at all and I hate spending hours editing videos. I like my workflow to be as fast as possible.

Thankfully this version of the insta 360 X 3 makes it easier. It will record the video in 360 and then within the app you can stitch the video angles as you wish by just moving your phone around.

I see myself using it to capture daily life scenes with my kids and also shooting POV videos when I am out shooting.

Traveling is all about experiencing new cultures, trying new things, and creating lasting memories. And what better way to capture those memories than through beautiful travel photos? With the right techniques and a bit of practice, it's easy to take great travel photos with a smartphone camera. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

1. Find the right light

   Good lighting is essential for any photograph, and this is especially true when it comes to travel photography. Look for soft, natural light, and try to avoid taking photos in direct sunlight, as this can create harsh shadows and blow out your images.

My preference goes for sunsets also known as “Golden hour” in the photography jargon. Every photo at that time of the day look great with a soft glow. You also get “blue hour” which is the time when the sun is below the horizon. Some people enjoy shooting at sunrise, but I am not an early bird, hence the reason I rarely take photos at sunrise! You can also try your hand at night photography which is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and experiment new techniques and skills.

2. Get the right angle

Experiment with different angles and perspectives to add interest to your photos. Try shooting from above, below, or at eye level, and don't be afraid to get close to your subject.

My preference goes to shoot with a wide angle and looking for symmetry. This always gives a very visually appealing photo.

You can also play with your tele-photo lens and shoot a subject or landmark. What I love with this method is the compression of the background it brings on your image. This is something only doable with a tele-photo lens that your naked eye cannot see.

3. Use the rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is a basic principle of photography that involves dividing your frame into nine equal parts and placing your subject along the lines or at the intersections of those lines. This can help create a balanced and visually appealing photo.

This is the most known photography technique but yet not so many beginner photographers use it. I use it up until today. Whether it is on my camera or on my phone camera, my grid is always activated to help me with my composition.

4. Edit your photos

Most smartphone cameras come with built-in editing tools, so don't be afraid to play around with the settings to enhance your photos. Adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation to make your photos pop, and use filters to give them a unique look.

I personally use Adobe Lightroom CC mobile. I wrote many articles about it, so I won’t bore you in this article with it. Click on one of the articles I wrote below to learn more about it and its benefits.

5. Experiment with different camera modes

Most smartphone cameras have different camera modes, such as portrait, panorama, and night mode.

Experiment with these different modes to see how they affect your photos and find the one that works best for the scene you're trying to capture.

Pro tip: Use the panorama mode if what you are trying to capture does not fit in the frame. It is a way to fake having a wide-angle lens. But make sure to take your panorama from top to bottom when shooting a landscape shot with a sky. This will allow you to keep the details of the sky instead of the highlights being blown out if you’d have started from the bottom to the top.

6. Use a tripod

A tripod can help you take steady, blur-free photos, especially in low light conditions. If you don't have a tripod, try using a stable surface, such as a wall or table, to rest your phone on while taking the photo.

I use my tripod to take advanced travel selfie or long exposure shots specifically at night.

I personally use the Manfrotto mini tripod with a phone holder that rotates 360 degrees. The setup is compact and fits in my jacket pocket or my sling bag.

7. Keep an eye on your background

A cluttered or distracting background can ruin an otherwise great photo. Pay attention to what's in the background of your shot and try to frame your subject in a way that minimizes distractions.

If you happen to have a distracting background and would like to remove some elements, my go-to mobile application is touch-retouch.

When it comes to travel photography, having the right camera phone can make all the difference. Whether you're capturing stunning landscapes or intimate street scenes, the right phone can help you take professional-quality photos that you'll be proud to share.

One question I often receive in my DMs is “what are the best camera phones for travel photography in your opinion?”.

Even though I believe most phones do the work nowadays, here is a short list of my top recommendations. I based them on a few criteria:

1. Lenses available. Nowadays, I’d pick camera phones with at least 3 lenses that will allow me to shoot wide, telephoto and macro.

2. Battery life. When you use your phone camera to shoot photos and videos, this can drain your battery life quite fast. So a phone with a long battery life that can be recharged fast is a must if you do not want to miss any moments.

3. Photo quality. Most phones will promote the highest image resolutions to entice you to buy them. Some phones can shoot up to 108 Megapixels which is incredible. However, it does not mean that the rendering of your photo will be the best. Some phone cameras with less resolution can offer a more natural look than the ones with higher resolution. It is a matter of preference, but bare that in mind when making your decision.

So keeping those in mind, here is a list of my top 5 phone camera recommendations for travel photography in 2023.

1.Apple iPhone 12 Pro

The iPhone 12 Pro boasts a triple-camera system with 12MP ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto lenses, as well as a LiDAR scanner for improved augmented reality and low-light performance. It also has ProRAW, a new image format that combines the benefits of a raw image with the convenience of a JPEG, allowing you to edit your photos with more flexibility and detail.

Here are the main features of this phone camera.

• Night Mode for Low-Light Photography: The new Night mode feature allows you to take beautifully detailed photos even in low-light conditions, such as concerts and nightclubs.

• Portrait Mode and Depth Control: The iPhone 12 Pro offers a new feature, Portrait mode, to create beautiful studio-quality photos. You can control the background blur and the photo's lighting, and you can also adjust the level of blur in real-time while taking the photo

• Smart HDR: The iPhone 12 Pro also features Smart HDR, which combines multiple shots at different exposures to bring out the best details in your photos and get rid of unwanted noise

Have you ever downloaded Lightroom presets all excited about your purchase, only to realise that you are not getting the results wanted on all your photos like it was promise?

You're not alone.

There are a lot of people who have trouble using Lightroom presets, and it can be a frustrating experience. But with a little practice, you can get the hang of it and start editing your photos like a pro!

There is a learning curve when it comes to editing your photos and using Lightroom. Having a one pack of preset that is sold as a “one size fits all” does not work. Or if it does you may end up with funny looking images.

So what is the solution when it comes to using presets to fast track your results and avoid spending hours editing every single photo?

This is what I will break down in this article.

What are Lightroom presets?

Lightroom presets are files that contain a set of Lightroom editing settings. When you apply a preset to a photo, the settings in the preset are applied to the photo.

There are a variety of Lightroom presets available, and each one is designed for a specific type of photo. For example, there are presets for portraits, landscapes, and weddings. Using a preset that is designed for the type of photo you are editing can help you get the best results.

The problem with Lightroom presets

The problem with Lightroom presets is that they are often designed for a specific type of photo, and they may not work well with other types of photos. For example, if you try to use a portrait preset on a landscape photo, the results may not be what you expect.

Additionally, Lightroom presets can be difficult to use, and if you don't have a lot of experience with Lightroom, you may not be able to get the results you want.

How many times have you tried presets in the past thinking that you would get the exact look the photographer offered but in the end got a totally different look?

I have been there. I know the struggle.

Here is my solution

Layering Presets in Lightroom

Have you heard of how to stack presets in Lightroom? This is the process of stacking presets on top of each other to create your own unique look.

There are many things that can affect the look of your photos.

The lighting, The time of day, The weather, Your camera settings,The subject matter,And your own editing style.

All of these things can affect the look of your photos, and no one preset can account for all of them.

However, by stacking presets, you can create a preset that is customized for the specific photo you are editing.

The best part about stacking presets is that it is easy to do, and you don't need to be an expert in Lightroom to get great results.

The Millennial Nomad Lightroom Presets Stacking Pack

That is why I decided to create my personal Lightroom Presets Stacking Pack.

You can use these presets as a starting point for your own unique look, or you can use them as-is to get great results.

This pack of presets works for for portraits, landscapes, weddings, and more.

How to use it?

It is very simple. I like to follow steps when it comes to my editing style.

I start with:

1. tone curve adjustment

2. Masking and lighting

3. Effects

4. Color grading

In the Lightroom Preset Stacking Pack you will get 2 folders including presets with my personal adjustment settings when it comes to step 2,3 and 4. And a selection of 8 different color grading styles, among which my signature vivid color preset in the second folder, to match with every style of photography (landscape, urban, portraits, weddings, etc…). You will also get a complete video tutorial where I walk you through my best practices on how to use them.

Here is an example

That is the Raw photo taken on the streets of Temple Bar here in Dublin, Ireland.

I start the edit using the Tone Curve and Light Adjustment preset.

Since the latest Lightroom update, you can now use the slider to adjust the strength of the preset to your liking.

I then follow up with the Masks & Filter effect. Same, I use the sliders to adjust the strength to my liking. The purpose of this mask is to put the subject of your photo in focus by darkening parts of the photo.

The next step is to add some effects. In this case a bit of clarity and grains to bring some depth to the photo.

The last step is the color grading. As you can see, once you download the Lightroom Preset Stacking Pack, you will receive 8 different color grading style.

Up to you to use the one you believe renders the best for your photo.

For this example I am using my signature preset Vivid Colors to make the colors pop o this photo as the buildings were very colorful on that street.

You can see below a before after of the edit.

As you can see it took only 4 steps to completely edit this photo and there is no need to be a Lightroom expert.

Once you have found your ideal preset for a specific style of photography, you can then save this to your personal preset library and use it later on similar photos.

This is completely customisable and up to you! It is very user friendly with the latest Lightroom update that allows you to use sliders to adjust the strength of a preset to your liking. No need to be an expert.

The term "digital creator" is used to describe someone who creates content in the digital space.

You might be a digital creator if you create content on YouTube or Instagram, or if you're a blogger, podcaster or musician.

Digital creators are often freelance workers, but they can also work for companies that specialize in digital content creation.

Digital creator vs influencer

If you want to become a digital creator, the first thing you need to figure out is what kind of content you want to produce.

There are two main types of digital creators:

• Influencers

• Digital creators

Influencers are people who are known for one specific type of content, such as beauty or fashion. These are people who already have a following, and they’re likely already making money from their content. They may also have an established reputation in their industry, which makes it easier for them to get sponsorship deals.

Digital creators are people who create content on a variety of topics and target a wide range of audiences. Their channels can be anything from cooking videos to political commentary or personal vlogging.

Different type of social media content creator job

Social media content creators are people who create content for social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube etc... They're responsible for generating engaging posts that will keep users coming back to their accounts.

There are different types of social media content creators, and each one has a different role in the process.

Video creators

These people create videos to post on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram or another platform. They might be comedians, musicians or anyone else with a talent they want to share with fans.

Bloggers

Bloggers write articles or blog posts about any topic they choose — from sports to fashion. These articles are usually published on the blog owner's website or blog network's website, but some bloggers also write for newspapers or magazines.

Influencers

Influencers have large followings on social media and use their presence to promote products and services for companies. Their followers trust them because they tend to review products honestly and aren't always paid by companies to promote them.

Content creator salary: how much does a content creator make

If you're interested in becoming a digital creator, you may be surprised to find out that the job isn't as glamorous as it sounds.

One of the most popular careers among millennials is being a social media influencer — and with good reason.

According to data from Glassdoor, the average salary for a social media influencer is $55,000 per year, which is pretty good money for a part-time gig.

Plus, there are plenty of high-paying opportunities: according to the same report, some social media stars can make over $500,000 per year! It seems like an easy way to earn extra cash without having to spend hours at an office every day.

What affects the salary of a content creator?

According to Hubspot, the biggest differentiators are experience, location, and in-demand skills.

How do you know when your skillset is sufficient for a rate bump?

Here are a few suggestions:

• Identify your expertise. Specializing in one area can help you stick out and find better opportunities. photography, videography, copywriting

• Grow your skill set. The best investment you can make is in yourself. Follow new trends, learn techniques, complete certifications, and master soft skills. You’ll need them.

• Create your own brand. Branding isn’t just for business. Boosting your personal brand with blogs, podcasts, and similar content will bring awareness and social proof.

• Lastly, define which career path you want to take. You may prefer the autonomy of a freelancer, or the stable income stream of being in-house, or the fast-paced life at an agency.

Choose the environment that best fits your character and temperament.

And there you go… you’ve got ideas for taking your career to the next level.

How to make money as a content creator

If you want to make money as a content creator, you need to create great content. But how do you do that?

Here are some tips:

1. Know your audience. If you're writing for an audience of one, then you know exactly who they are and what they care about. For example, if you're writing about sports for young men, then it's likely that your audience is male and between the ages of 18 and 34. Knowing this allows you to craft articles that speak directly to them.

2. Find your voice — and use it consistently across all platforms

3. Be authentic and consistent in your messaging

Once you built an audience then you can start promoting products or offers.

You can offer:

• freelance services based on your skills (writing, film making, taking photos, etc…)

• Sell products like merchandise

• Sell digital products

3 steps to get started as a content creator

A content creator is someone who makes content, and they can do so in a number of different ways. The most common are writing blog posts, creating videos, and making podcasts.

You don't need to be an expert in any of these areas to get started as a content creator. You just need to have something valuable to say and the ability to get it out there.

But, if you want to become a successful digital creator, there are three things you should do:

1. Pick a topic that interests you

2. Create some content about that topic

3. Pick 1-2 main social media platforms and spread the word about your work
