Air Berlin is a member of the Oneworld Alliance so you could credit the miles to either British Airways or American Airlines for easier use.  Getting to Europe this cheap even during the off peak season is awesome!  Fares this low usually go quickly so if you are interested, I would book sooner rather than later.

But wait… There’s more!  If you use a normal miles earning credit card you will score 591 miles or points, but if you use the Chase Ink Plus card (which gives you 5X points on Office Supply stores like OM) you will take home almost 3,000 of the ultra valuable Ultimate Rewards points.

You can usually do this once per day at every OfficeMax in your local area (if they aren’t sold out of course).  Note this works for the $200 and $100 gift cards but the $200 are a better value since the fee is approximately the same.  Keep in mind that even though they are merged, this promotion is only at OfficeMax stores not Office Depots.  You can also call before you go to make sure they have the $200 Visa’s in stock so you don’t waste a trip.

The process in easy steps.

1. Go to Staples and buy two $200 gift cards with your Ink Plus, Ink Bold, or Ink Cash card.  The total will be $413.90.  You will earn $413 X 5 = 2065 Ultimate Rewards points since the Ink cards give you 5X points on Office Supply stores.  I prefer the Visas (because they work with my Bluebird card at Walmart) but the Mastercards will work as well.  They look like this.
2. Follow the directions on the rebate receipt that prints to submit your rebate.  You will get a $20 Staples gift card in approximately 4-6 weeks.  There is nothing to mail in so it is really easy!
3. Either Load the Visa Gift cards onto Bluebird, or Use Visa Gift Cards to Buy Money Orders at Walmart, or Use Visa or MC Gift Cards to buy Money Orders at Kroger, or just use the gift cards for day to day expenses.  They are accepted anywhere that accepts Visa/MC!

If you don’t have an Ink Plus card yet, then maybe now is the time to get one! If you don’t have an Ink card, you can still do this deal with any miles earning card.  But 5X points on the Ink plus is what makes this good deal great!

They say luck is when preparation meets opportunity and I am a very lucky guy.  When I saw that my friend and Incorrect Records label boss Anthony Attalla was spinning at a birthday party at Spybar in Chicago in May, I was on the lookout for a deal on award tickets.  I just scored round trip airfare for just $11 and 5800 Southwest points which is a steal! I’m going to do this one a bit differently and break this deal down backwards.

Step 1: Find your trip dates using points.

For an in depth look at how to find the cheapest award tickets read our Southwest Secrets Volume 1 and Southwest Secrets Volume 2 articles.  But I’m gonna show you the basics right here.  Go to right to the Low Fare Finder on Southwest’s site and put in FLL for the Departure City and MDW for the Arrival City.  Change it to show fares in points and put in May for the dates.

This will bring up a calendar view.  Pick a date that has the cheapest fares if your schedule is flexible. Why not extend your trip an extra day if the ideal dates aren’t available.  Live a little! I was able to score two of the dates that were just 2924 points each and make it for the event on May 16th.  This means the total cost of the trip is 5848 Rapid Rewards points + the taxes which are just $11!

Step 2: Transfer or earn the points you need.

If you don’t already have 5848 points in your Rapid Rewards account then Southwest is a transfer partner of Ultimate Rewards so you can just transfer your Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest points with a 1:1 ratio!  If you don’t have any Ultimate Rewards points, then why not get the Chase Sapphire Preferred card?  It has a 40,000 UR point sign up bonus which is enough for six free trips to Chicago at these prices.

Let me say that again, get one credit card, fly 6 times to Chicago…  It’s hard to believe this is legal!

And if you are one of those poor souls who like to pay cash for tickets, you can always get one for $59 one way instead.

Step 3:  There is no step 3!
