<itunes:summary>Coming to you today from the TravelCommons studios outside of Chicago, Illinois at the start of what's looking like 6 weeks of straight travel. In this episode, we talk about the need to have a place to blow off steam after a frustrating day of travel, and how the distractions of cell phone calls have caused me to leave a trail of personal belongings behind in hotel and airplanes across the country. Finally, while getting a knowing chuckle out of the trailer for the upcoming movie Up In The Air where George Clooney plays an uber-frequent traveler, the movie's theme about using travel to run away from relationships isn't all that fictional.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Again in Washington, DC, I'm back on the road after two weeks at home. As my Twitter followers know, this trip didn't get off to the best start -- a 2 hour delay caused by yet another broken United Airlines plane. Listener comments continue the threads on in-flight bans on smartphones and falling prices of in-flight Wi-Fi. The collapse of the Clear Registered Traveler program makes me nervous about who has my fingerprints and iris scans. And, after my plane finally got into the air, I thought about what I miss when I'm off the road.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Recorded in the Washington, DC Marriott as I wrap up a week of business travel before heading out for a week's vacation. My recent trip back down to Johannesburg, South Africa provides a good bit of content -- on-plane security in Dakar, South Africa Airways' unique ban on in-flight use of iPhones and Blackberries, and good luck with Skype. Experiences on the flight back home illustrate the benefits of being a super elite flier, which might be easier to attain with Delta's recent changes to their SkyMiles program. We wrap up with a couple of stories about how frequent travelers squeeze in instant vacations in the midst of business travel.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Consequences of Breaking Travel Rules, Words You Never Want to Hear When You're Flying</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Recorded in the TravelCommons studios outside of Chicago at the end of a full week home, decompressing after 6 weeks of straight travel. We talk about some "travel rules" violators -- the woman whose airport meltdown is a YouTube hit and an Amazing Race couple whose violation got them eliminated. A listener suggests a topic -- what is the one thing you never want to hear on a flight? And we close with a couple of suggestions on how to avoid the growing cacophony of flat screen TVs shouting out the depressing state of the world.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Recorded in the TravelCommons studios outside of Chicago, back doing my thing to support the travel industry with lots of travel in January. We talk about some recent TSA observations, good and bad; my latest spin of the "travel roulette" wheel, trading the plane for a train in an East Coast snow storm; a look back at last year's travel courtesy of Dopplr's Personal Annual Report; and being saved by duct tape while flying the tatty skies of United.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Recorded in the TravelCommons studios outside of Chicago after finishing up my travel for the year. But there was a good bit of travel before the year-end, including one of the craziest/stupidest itineraries I've done in a long time -- Chicago-London-Denver in a little more than a day. Many of the subsequent Twitter comments I received asked that perpetual question -- Why travel when you can video conference? Traveling to a business-formal office for the first time in 10 years causes me to investigate different methods in packing a suit. And the December storms that have snarled air traffic across the upper two-thirds of the US have me singing the praises of Flightstats.com</itunes:summary>
