This memorial sculpture, one of the great liberation wars and victories, was erected on 16 December 1996 on the east side of the University Administration Building in the style of modern architecture. It is based on the designs of renowned architect Rashid Ahmed. Which is intertwined with the lives of university students.

On the seven-pillar dome of 'Muktabangla' is a strong-fisted liberation war tool rifle, which symbolizes the cabinet of the seven-member Mujibnagar government. Each pillar is decorated with an architecturally based arch in a wide outstretched arm, with the expectation of the red sun rising in the eye. The lowest wide ceramic large brick is indicative of continuous movement.

Muktabangla

During the anti-British movement in 1906, small and large mills were set up in the country to use domestic products during the boycott movement, resulting in the Kushtia Mohani Mill.

Chakraborty, a teenager from Elangi village under Kumarkhali police station in Kushtia (then Nadia district), used to work at the Kumarkhali silk factory. While his son Krishnalal was working as a police officer in Boalia, Rajshahi, his son Mohini Mohan passed the entrance examination of Calcutta University from Boalia High School in 1857. His life span was 1839-1922.

When the Kushtia subdivision was established soon after the Blue Rebellion in Bengal, Mohini Mohan took a job as a clerk at the subdivision headquarters. In 1865, when Mohini Mohan was an employee under WW Hunter, the author of the famous book Civilian and the Indian Muslims (1877), the master, seeing his intelligence, advised him to take a magisterial examination. Mohini Mohan passed the examination as usual and became the Deputy Magistrate of Faridpur in 1874-76. After retiring from government service, he set up a textile factory called Chakraborty & Sons, south of Kushtia Bara Railway Station, in 1906. Although it was a shareholder company, it was owned by Chakraborty & Sons Agency. It is revealed that long before the establishment of Mohini Mill, in 1895-96, there was a trading company called Tagore & Company north of Mohini Mill, of which Rabindranath was its shareholder. A weaving school was opened there in 1905. Mohini Mohan, Jagatkishore Chowdhury and Rabindranath are the three shareholders of Mohini Mill established in 1908. In 1912, the company became Kushtia Mohini Mills Limited.

In the thirties, the Mohini Mill Sutakal Mazdoor Union was formed to realize the demands of the workers of the Mohini Mill through the efforts of the workers of the Communist Party who were declared illegal in the subcontinent. Shortly afterwards, comrade Raushan Ali, the uncrowned captain and politically initiated labor leader, appeared on the stage of the mill workers' movement.

It is revealed that Mohini Mohan's mother-in-law was in the family of Ramananda Bhowmik of Muragachha in Kumarkhali police station, his mother's name was Bhagwati. Mohini Mohan is one of their six sons and daughters. Satiprasanna, the first of the four sons of Mohini Mohan and Bhavatarini, was rejected for opposing the British. The second son Girija Prasanna was married to Leelamayi, daughter of Jagatkishore Chowdhury of Muktagachha in Mymensingh. The eldest of their five sons was Devi Prasad alias Kanu Babu (1907-67). He lived in a two-storey Mohini Lodge north of the mill. Kanu Babu is his grandson's son. His grandfather died when Kanu Babu was 15 years old (1922). As a result, Kanu Babu became the sole captain of this match. Subir (Dulal Babu), the only child of Kanu Babu and Nirupama Devi, is now deceased, his only son Sudip is said to be working as a journalist in Delhi. During the Indo-Pakistani war of 1965, Chamanlal, one of the non-Bengali partners of the 6 Mills, migrated to India. Kanu Babu was placed under house arrest under the Pakistan Security Act. Kanu Babu used to help many charitable works in the area. He had special contributions in Kushtia College, crematorium and Lalon Akhra. What was enemy property in 1965 was nationalized by the Bangladesh government in 1972 and treated as vested property. Zamindar Shah Sufi Syed Ahmed Ali (Adari Mia Chowdhury) came to Kushtia's Jhaudia area from Baghdad during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for the same purpose.

For the convenience of propagating Islam and in the spirit of worship of Allah, he established a mosque in Jhaudia, which is known as Jhaudia Shahi Mosque. About 25 km south-west of Kushtia town, in the middle of Jhenaidah and Kushtia districts, in the village of Jhaudia in Kushtia Sadar upazila, is a witness to history.

Kushtia Islamic University official and local resident Shafiqul Islam Chowdhury said the mosque was built during the reign of Aurangzeb. This is because the construction style of this mosque is very similar to other structures built during the Mughal period. The Jhaudiya Shahi Mosque was built following the Mughal architectural style.

He added that people from far and wide come to the mosque to offer prayers. About 4-5 thousand people come to this mosque on Fridays of other months except Ramadan.

Another local worshiper, Selim Uddin Chowdhury, said the exterior of the mosque was a bit dull due to lack of maintenance, but the dazzling design inside did not cause much damage. The mosque was registered by the Department of Archeology in 1979. The last time the mosque was renovated was in 1979-80. Devotees from different areas come to offer prayers and many take vows here.

Shah Safi Syed Ahmed Ali (Adari Mia Chowdhury) established this mosque for the purpose of propagating Islam. He spent most of the day in the mosque worshiping. He used to come every day to perform prayers and sit in a room next to the mosque. There he would tell everyone about religion. Zamindar Shah Sufi Ahmad Chowdhury himself was the Imam. He used to teach Qur'an to the people of the area. Religious Adari Mia Chowdhury was unmarried. His shrine is a short distance from the mosque.

He further said that according to the agreement with the Department of Archeology, Hasan Ali Chowdhury or his descendants will be the mutawalli (caretaker) of the mosque. He and his descendants are running the mosque. At present Maulana Md. Mokaram Hossain is acting as the Imam and Khatib of this mosque. Earlier, Mokaram Hossain's father Abdus Shukur, before him Mokaram Hossain's uncle Manjarul Alam and before him Mokaram Hossain's grandfather Maulana Maula Box were in charge.

Just as the bridge in Jamuna is a dream come true, so is the dream of Lalon Shah Bridge in Bheramara. According to the elders, when the Siliguri meter gauge railway was established in 1890, trains, ferries and steamers started plying between Sara Ghat on one side of Pramatta Padma and Damukdia Ghat on the other side. When the final decision was taken to build a bridge over the Padma in 1910, it was very difficult to control the speed of the Padma. The world's first river training and guide dam was built on both banks of the Padma to carry out this difficult task. The Gopinath Ji Temple, built about 500 years ago, is an example of ancient architecture commemorating Isha Khan, one of the heroes of the Bar Bhuiyans of Bengal. The temple is located in Achmita Bhog Betal area, three kilometers north of Katiadi Upazila Sadar in Kishoreganj. If the Gopinath Ji Temple is renovated, it could become an aesthetic tourist destination in the region.
This ancient temple was built by the feudal lord Nabarang Roy in 1575 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Kutaman Dighi, located to the south of Gopinath Ji Temple, also stands as a memorial to King Nabarang Roy. This large reservoir of about 30 acres has added to the attraction of this ancient temple. In terms of architecture, the Gopinath Ji Temple bears a resemblance to the ancient temples of the Indian state of Orissa. Numerous tourists flock here every year to visit this temple.

There are various rumors about the history of Gopinath Ji Temple. According to some, Raja Nabarang Roy dreamed of building this temple. According to some sources, the construction of the temple was started by the pious king Navrang Roy at the behest of a devotee Pagal Baul, who was sitting under an ancient large banyan tree on the site of the temple. It is also known that Raja Navrang Roy was a devoted devotee of that saint Pagal Baul. At that time Raja Navarang Roy spent a lot of money on the construction of this temple.

Legend has it that when the construction of the temple was completed, a Baul suddenly jumped into a low swamp on the north side of the temple and disappeared. Then that crazy Baul could not be found anywhere else. Due to this legend, the wetland to the north of the temple is still known as Baul Sagar in the area. It is said that Isha Khan, one of the Bar Bhuiyans of Bengal, on his way from his then fort of Egarasindu to Jangalbari through the area adjacent to the temple, stopped at the temple to the melody of Bhog Aarti. Sitting here, the poet wrote innumerable poems which were later published in "Kshanika", words and stories. The house is located two hundred meters from the big station in Milpara of the city. The spiritual devotee took refuge in Lalon Shah's Chheuriya in Kumarkhali and later after his death in Chheuriya, a meeting place (akhra) was built at the place of his burial. Fakir Lalon Shah's disciples and countless Baulkuls from home and abroad gathered in this arena on special dates and celebrated the festival. This mystic folk poet has composed innumerable folk songs despite being illiterate. Baul philosophy has now aroused curiosity not only in the country but also abroad. His present shrine was built there in 1963 and was inaugurated by the then Governor of East Pakistan, Monaim Khan. The academy building with a modern auditorium was constructed there in 2004.

Shrine of Baul Emperor Lalon Shah on the banks of Kaliganga river in Chheuria village of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia. He was born in 1784. He died on 17 October 1890 at the age of 116. The Baul emperor is buried in the soil of Chheuriya. After his death, the disciples built a shrine here or Lalon's stable in the local language. There are rows and rows of disciples' graves around his tomb in the huge dome. This shrine is the pilgrimage place of Bauls. There is a gate some distance from the shrine. Next to the shrine is the Lalon Museum. A door of Lalon, Lalon's seating jug, bowls of devotees and some rare pictures are preserved in the museum. The entrance fee to the museum is 2 taka. When you come out of the shrine, you will see Lalon's bust.

Lalon built an arena at Chheuria in Kushtia, where he taught his disciples. Even today, bowlers from all over the country gather at Chheuria in October to pay their respects to Lalon Shah. Twelve days after his death, he was first referred to as the "Mahatma" in an essay published in the then fortnightly magazine Mir Mosharraf Hossain. The author of the essay is named Raicharan.

Several of Lalon's writings indicate that he was not at all respectful of religion-tribe-caste-community. During the British rule, when ethnic divisions between Hindus and Muslims were on the rise, Lalon was a vocal opponent. He did not believe in any difference between people. He had no value of race, religion, caste. He was a humanist. In a song he says:

Poet Rabindranath Tagore was also influenced by Lalon's songs. He has collected thousands of songs from different parts of Bangladesh. Muhammad Mansuruddin alone has collected more than three hundred Lalon songs which have been compiled in his Haramani. Apart from this, the titles of his other two books are 'Lalon Fakirer Gaan' and 'Lalon Geetika' respectively so that many only Lalon songs have been compiled.

SB, Shyamoli, Hanif, Sohag, Khaleq Paribahan buses run directly from Dhaka to Kushtia via Bangabandhu Bridge from Gabtoli or Technical Junction in Dhaka. There are also many direct Dhaka-Kumarkhali buses.

You can take Chitra train from Kamalapur railway station to Sundarbans and from Cantonment station. But in that case you have to get off at Poradaha railway station near Kushtia and come to the city by bus or auto rickshaw. From Kushtia city you can go to Lalon Shah's shrine by rickshaw or auto rickshaw.

Rabindrasmriti is a historical place and tourist center. It is located on the south bank of the Padma in the present Kumarkhali upazila of the present Kushtia district, five miles north of the district headquarters, across the Gorai River, and further north, opposite the town of Pabna on the other bank of the Padma. Shilaidaha is also famous for the historical houses of Sadar Kachari and Jorasanko Tagore family of Birahimpur zamindari.

The name Shilaidaha is modern, earlier this place was known as Khorshedpur. There was an indigo factory here before the Jorasanko Tagore family bought the village in the mid-nineteenth century. It is said to have been built by an indigo planter named Shelley. The village came to be known as Sheli-Daha from a deep ‘Daha’ (whirlpool) created by the confluence of the Gorai and Padma rivers. Over time it became Shilaidaha. Rabindranath's grandfather Dwarkanath Tagore became the owner of the zamindari in 1807 at the behest of Ramlochan Tagore. Rabindranath first came to Shilaidaha in November 1889 to take care of the zamindari.

Shilaidaha Kuthibari

Rabindranath Tagore used to come here from time to time in his adolescence and later to look after the zamindari and stay in this house. However, during the subsequent floods, the old house was demolished due to the erosion of the river and the old house was demolished and the new house was built with the old building materials. Rabindranath stayed here at irregular intervals for more than a decade between 1891 and 1901.

During his stay, Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose (Acharya), Dwijendralal Roy, Pramath Chowdhury, Mohitlal Majumder, Lokendranath Palit and other famous scientists, writers and intellectuals of Bengal came here. One of the best crops of Rabindra Sahitya is Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali, Kotha O Kahini, Kshanika, Naibedya and Kheya, most of the poems, stories, plays, novels, letters and songs of Gitanjali and Gitimalya. It was here that the poet began his English translation of Gitanjali in 1912, which earned him the Nobel Prize in 1913. Rabindranath had a deep affection for Shilaidaha and Padma. The poet wrote in a letter: ‘The place of pilgrimage of my youth and old age for literary pursuits was in the Padma-stream-kissed Shilaidaha village.

Shilaidaha Kuthibari

Shilaidaha Kuthibari covers an area of about 11 acres with mango, jackfruit and other evergreen orchards, a flower garden and two ponds. Shilaidaha has a rural environment and captivating natural beauty. The Kuthibari building is surrounded by a perimeter wall. It can be entered by crossing a simple but attractive entrance arch located on the south side. It has a total of 15 rooms of different sizes, including a large central hall on the ground floor and second floor. The open balconies on the ground floor and two floors are partially covered by sloping roofs made of Raniganj tiles. In the upper middle part of the ground floor there is a sloping roof with triangular edges. The two-story upper pyramid-shaped roof adds more variety to the building. At present Shilaidaha Kuthibari is a nationally preserved building. The 'Thakur Memorial Museum' has been established here on the initiative of the government.

It was at Shilaidaha that Rabindranath first began experimenting with rural development and modern methods of farming, which he later put into practice in Patisar. He also established a primary school in Shilaidaha named after his daughter-in-law Pratima Devi.

This mansion in Shilaidaha is now a place of pilgrimage for Rabindranath devotees. The birth anniversary of the poet is celebrated here at the national level on 25th Baishakh every year. A ceremony is also held here on the occasion of the death anniversary of the 22th Shravan Kabir. In these programs, many scholars from home and abroad participated in discussions on the life and work of Rabindranath. At the end of the discussion, eminent artists performed Rabindra Sangeet in the cultural program.

Buses of various modes from Gabtoli and Kalyanpur in Dhaka left for Kushtia. Kushtia can also be reached by train from North Bengal and Khulna. From there you can go to Kuthibari by auto.

The main complex revolves around a four-story circular building, with wide corridors for visitors on each floor. Standing in the corridor and looking down, one can see a huge map of Bangladesh. Outside the complex building, in the open space adjacent to the complex, sculptures of 40 freedom fighters including six rose gardens, March 7 speech, swearing-in of Mujibnagar government, cabinet, flag hoisting, a surrender of Pak army can be seen. The small sculptures of various incidents during the sector-based war seem to have matched the 1971 Bangladesh.

Just outside the map, murals are commemorating various events of 1971, murals of Bangabandhu's speech on March 7, sculptures of those in charge of the Mujibnagar government, scenes of awarding guard of honor to the interim president, murals of freedom fighters at Teliapara on April 4, 1971 Scene. The declaration of independence and the surrender of the Pakistani forces are inscribed on two huge concrete walls.

One of the attractions of visiting Mujibnagar is the Mujibnagar Memorial. This memorial has been built where the provisional government of Bangladesh was formed during the war of liberation. Its architect is Tanvir Karim. The monument consists of 23 triangular walls 20 inches thick centered on the main altar on a circular pillar 160 feet in diameter. The skull of the martyred intellectual is meant by a circular circle on the main altar of the memorial.

A total of 11 stairs have to be used to reach the main altar of the memorial. During the war of liberation, 11 stairs are the symbol of the 11 sectors in which the freedom fighters fought in the country. The mother and son then proceeded towards the museum. The museum has been constructed inside the main complex building to display the various historical events of the War of Independence through important photographs. Inside the museum are oil paintings of 10 national leaders and 24 large oil paintings of important events of the Liberation War.

Overview

Kushtia has an undisputed reputation as the cultural capital of Bangladesh since time immemorial. However, there is disagreement among historians as to how the name 'Kushtia' came to be. The most supported opinion is found in Hamilton's Gazetteer. That is, Kushtia used to produce a lot of jute at one time. Jute was called ‘Koshta’ or ‘Kushti’ in the local language, from which the name Kushtia comes. According to some, Kushtia is named after the Persian word 'Kushtah' which means ash island. There is also an opinion that the city of Kushtia originated around the port of Kushtia during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan.

In 1725, Kushtia was under the zamindari of Natore and its introduction came under the inclusion of the civil administration of Rajshahi Faujdari in Kandanagar Pargana. Later, the British East India Company annexed Kushtia to Jessore district in 1776. But in 1828 it became part of Pabna district. The Kushtia subdivision was established in 1861 due to the Blue Rebellion and in 1871 the Kushtia subdivision came under Nadia with Kumarkhali and Khoksa thanas. Before the partition of the Indian subcontinent, Kushtia was a subdivision under Nadia district. Kushtia district emerged in 1947. At that time Kushtia district consisted of 3 subdivisions. These are Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur. When Chuadanga and Meherpur were separated as separate districts in 1984, the present Kushtia district was formed with 6 thanas of Kushtia subdivision.

This Kushtia art, which is intertwined with the memory of world poet Rabindranath Tagore, has enriched Bangladesh in literature and culture. So far we've known two conjectural facts about the naming of Meherpur. After the demise of Ganesha, his son Jadu, who took the Muslim name, continued to rule the throne of Md. Jalaluddin Gaur. After his death, his son Sultan Shamsuddin Ahmad Shah inherited the dominion . it had been from this point that the spread of Islam within the region began on an outsized scale. Nasiruddin Muhammad Shah of Ikhtiyar Shahi dynasty seized the throne of Gaur by brutally killing Shamsuddin Ahmad Shah. Meherpur is claimed to have been a really prosperous region during the Sultanate period. within the fourteenth century, variety of Auliya saints came here to spread Islam in Meherpur.

During the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar, Bhavananda Majumdar (his childhood name Durgadash Samaddar) of Bagoan in Meherpur established an enormous dynasty. He kept Vallabhipur Pargana in his charge. It's said that Rajah Raghab Roy of the Bhaband Majumdar dynasty was a worshiper of Krishna from Matiar. It's worth mentioning that Maharajah Rudra, the son of Rajah Raghab, named this place Krishnanagar. Later this Krishnanagar became the capital of Nadia district.

In 162, King Krishnachandra became the Gadinsin of Nadia. one among the areas of this Nadia was Meherpur and Meherpur has been ruled for an extended time under the rule of King Krishnachandra. Rajah Krishnachandra was unable to pay the customary rent of Nadia in due time and was arrested by Nawab Murshikuli Khan. It's known from the history of 1750 that Meherpur city was established within the sixteenth century but no settlement was established there at that point . Because, in 1750 it had been under the rule of Nawabs under Mughal rule.

In 1750, Alivardi Khan, the subedar of Bengal, wanted to come by river to the village of Bagoyan in Meherpur to hunt. As a result of the inclement weather, he was forced to simply accept the hospitality of the councilor, Raju Gonsai, an unknown widow, Gowala Ramni. it's said that Nawab Alivardi Khan was impressed by the hospitality and donated the whole Bagoyan mouza on the east bank of the river Bhairab to the lady . Until the battle of Palashi on 23 June 1757, Rajah Goala Chowdhury built a road directly from Nadia Sadar Krishnanagar to Meherpur. the development of this road became a nightmare for Meherpur. Bargi bandits wont to attack Meherpur and loot huge wealth. so as to guard themselves from the oppression of the Bargis, the descendants of Goyala Chowdhury built secret shelters with bricks underground and dug trenches round the whole area. His remains were found therein underground shelter south of Meherpur municipality. Several large tamarind trees were within the area. the general public was warned of the attack of the Bargis from that tree. History testifies that Rajya Goyala Chowdhury was brutally killed during a battle with Raghuji Vosla, the infamous Bargi bandit leader.

The independence of Bengal came to an end in 1757 when Clive won British war with Sirajuddaullah at Amrakan in Palashi. Therein farce, King Krishnachandra of Nadia supported Clive, so Mr. Clive won the battle and awarded Krishnachandra the title of Rajendra Bahadur. In 175 the Malay Archipelago Company was ready to gain civil rights in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. From this point Nadia or Meherpur came under the rule of British . Although the boundaries of Nadia and Jessore were demarcated in 1896, it had been changed several times later. Nadia i.e. Kushtia and Meherpur have an extended relationship with Jessore. Meherpur was established in 1854 or 1856 as a subdivision.

There were five subdivisions of undivided Nadia namely Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur. After its establishment as a subdivision, Meherpur included 5 thanas namely Karimpur, Gangni, Tehtra, Chapra and Meherpur Sadar. At the time of partition in 1947, Karimpur, Tehratra and Chapra were included in India, Meherpur subdivision was formed with only Gangni and Meherpur Sadar.

On 24 February 1984, Meherpur became a full-fledged district. On 24 February 2000, Meherpur Sadar Upazila was divided into Mujibnagar Upazila. At present Meherpur district has three upazilas.

Declaration of Independence

Declaration of official independence of Bangladesh on 17 April 1971 by the expatriate government of Bangladesh. During the war of liberation this declaration came into force as an interim constitution to control the expatriate Mujibnagar government. Even before the new constitution of independent Bangladesh was enacted on 16 December 1972, this declaration remained effective because of the constitution of the country. On 25 March 1971, on the eve of the Pakistani military offensive against the people of Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh , senior Awami League leaders, members of theConstituent Assembly and Provincial Councils crossed the border into India for safety. By March 30, many of them had gathered in Calcutta. All the members of the Constituent Assembly and therefore the Provincial Council who met in Calcutta by 10 April formed an expatriate legislature and drafted the Declaration of Independence. On 18 April, M Yusuf Ali, a member of the Constituent Assembly, formally read out the Declaration of Independence at an easy ceremony at Baidyanathtala (now Mujibnagar) on the border of Meherpur district. Through this declaration the newly formed legislature declared the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. During this declaration the expatriate Mujibnagar government was considered legitimate and during this declaration it had been directed to determine a sequence of command among all the participants within the liberation war.
