I hope you will enjoy these images I created for Joe Hutchings, a close friend who is a business executive based in Las Vegas. I met Joe about a year after the passing of his beloved wife Judy. As you can see in the following images, Judy was an interior designer extraordinaire!

While creating the images over a three day period, I was continually impressed with Judy's expertise for master design theories. She was obviously well schooled from Bauhaus to color theories from Josef Albers and beyond.

I certainly feel privileged to have had the opportunity to photograph such a wonderful home and present Joe Hutchings with a lasting celebration of her design and legacy.

Newport Electric Bike goes to market with Ewasko imagery

On the Newport Balboa Boardwalk

You name it, Balboa Village has it: Great beaches, restaurants, water sports, shopping, art galleries, theaters, museums, sportfishing, whale watching and of course, the Fun Zone and more. And now, thanks to proprietor and co-founder Greg Ruzicka, it's also home to Newport Electric Bike, proudly featuring the imagery of Tommy Ewasko across all of its marketing channels.

Back in December, Tommy reached out to share the images he had shot the previous evening, and it's safe to say he was on Cloud 9. "Fresh out of the hopper imagery attached for your review," his message began. "One of my favorite professors Wes Kemp always said when you can shoot then you should shoot and show off your talent. I took a few hours and shot these images last night for Greg Ruzicka and his company, Newport Electric Bike. These amazing bicycles are new on the scene and they are all the rage."

Within hours of delivery, Greg had already put Tommy's images to great use across all of his social media channels. He recently wrote to share this feedback.

"Tom took nothing short of outstanding photos for me which have given my products worldwide visibility. The owner of the supplier company I deal with is based in Israel. Upon my receipt of Tom's photos I posted them to my website, and literally within minutes I received a message from Israel extolling their superiority. Each photo Tom provided was magazine cover quality."

Ruzicka continued, "Extremely important to me also is not only that Tom is a photographer without peer, he is also a consummate gentleman, and scrupulously honest. Dear friends:

For the past 108 years, this iconic stretch of coastal California has hosted the one-of-a-kind celebration known as the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights. Proudly hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, I consider myself very lucky to have been invited by my friend Nick to take-in the festivities at Corona del Mar's Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, one of the premiere yacht clubs on America's "Left" Coast.

The final day of the event was Sunday, December 18. It had been one of the most crisp and clear days of 2016, and as the sun dropped, the show in the sky was an amazing gradation of color. And on the waterfront, happy paraders cruised by non-stop, hooting and singing to music blaring from every craft, and each one decked-out in colorful holiday regalia. Oh - and the lights... lots of lights! It was a perfect formula for an epic photography session, and thanks to Nick, I was in a terrific position, surrounded by smiling friends and neighbors.

Thanks to Andrew Bossenmeyer and Vantage Strategic Marketing, I had a chance to participate in the historic 2016 President's Day celebrations at the Battleship USS Iowa museum in San Pedro, California. It's the only battleship museum on America's West Coast, and on President's Day, the public was invited to commemorate the ship's 73rd birthday. Throughout its history, the USS Iowa hosted numerous presidents onboard, and as you can see, organizers seized this occasion to recreate some of its glory days honoring the likes of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and General Douglas MacArthur, among many others.

TASTE: Design Observer Symposium Hits LA on 12 February

Coming up on February 12, leading international design blog Design Observer will host a symposium on the relationship between design and food. Held in the Los Angeles Theater Center in downtown LA, TASTE will feature prominent speakers from around the world. Here is more of an introduction from the illustrious staff of Design Observer.

Agrarian economics. Dry farming. Engineered waste. Vaporized nutrition. Synthetic flavors. Moral food. How are any of these things a function of design? On the other hand: How could they be anything else? We’ll consider the visual evolution of artificial flavor; the historical artistry of mid-century menus; the future of permaculture, the promises of packaging, and the vicissitudes of waste. We’ll look at marketing tactics and distribution platforms; climate change and culinary excess; new economies of scale, old expressions of culture— and everything in between. 38th Sundance Film Festival

Welcome to another year where I will be viewing all the excitement of the Sundance Film Festival from afar. What happens in Park City between Jan. 21 and 31 is sure to define the sensational in independent film for the immediate future. It's been awhile since I attended, but I'm confident it's still a whirlwind of snow, screenings, parties, great meals, skiing, and distribution deals. Now, thanks to Nate von Zumwalt of the Sundance Institute, the Festival news stream is at our fingertips.

. Word from the @SundanceFest team is, the official hashtag is #Sundance (but #Sundance2016 is worth a look, too). Be sure to visit Nate's original story for tips like the Twitter account for the Festival's 24/7 news feed.

Art Basel Miami Beach, 3-6 December

Starting soon and running through 6 Dec., Art Basel returns to Miami Beach for its 14th edition, extending the renown for Switzerland's Art Basel which over the past 41 years has become the world's most prestigious art show. The Miami Beach event will once again unite top galleries in its very special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design spread throughout the Art Deco District. Altogether, it's a thrilling, immersive experience allowing art lovers to discover new developments in contemporary art in the presence of rare, museum-calibre artworks.

Tommy writes: "My favorite professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, Wes Kemp, answered a question with a question one day, and it affected me forever. On that day, a fellow student complained, 'Aww, why give us an assignment that has been photographed a million times?' Prof. Kemp replied, 'Yes it has, but have YOU ever photographed it?!' Park City has been a destination for me since 1980, and I had never really tried to visually explain the phenomenon of the large snowflakes that fly to earth in the night to provide the abundant beautiful powder. So, on the way in from the airport, I studied the weather; a 6 p.m. snow was being forecast. Armed with the equipment and arriving a bit early, I was in the right spot outside of the Park City Resort base lodge. The math for the exposure went through my brain as twilight set in quickly. My Nikon did not let me down — even in the conditions. In the morning... oh, boy: PC powdah!"

This year's BOLO digital marketing conference is coming to Tempe, Arizona, from Sunday, October 18, through the 20th. The festivities will take place at Tempe's Showcase Room at The Yard, which is part of the new Farmer Arts District development.

Tommy writes: "It is always quite an education to photograph the desert, a place where you quickly gain a huge respect for both wildlife and nature itself. All around Scottsdale, the Saguaro seem like sentries guarding the desertscape. Some may have been there for more than a century. On this particular end of a dusty day, the sky rolled in with Halloween colors, and the cacti that can grow from 40 to 60 feet tall became ominous silhouettes. Kinda spooky!"

From Saturday, September 19, through the 25th, the St. Louis chapter of AIGA will host St. Louis Design Week. The festivities aim to inspire and promote the practice of design among professionals, entrepreneurs, local businesses and nonprofits in the world-famous American city.
