Travelore News: JetBlue and Virgin Voyages Unveil the Ultimate "Do Not Disturb" Adults-Only Getaway

2026-10-20T11:29:51.000-07:00

For years, travelers have debated the possibility of kid-free flights, and now, the industry is finally delivering. In a groundbreaking partnership, JetBlue Vacations and Virgin Voyages have just announced the ultimate "Do Not Disturb" package: a completely adults-only vacation experience that begins the moment you step into the airport.

Set to depart in the spring of 2027, this highly exclusive fly-cruise package seamlessly bundles JetBlue’s first-ever completely kid-free flight with a luxury Caribbean cruise. If you have been craving uninterrupted "me-time" without the typical travel logistics, this might be the most anticipated getaway of the year.

The Journey: From Runway to Sea

The experience kicks off on March 4, 2027. Passengers will depart on a private, adults-only JetBlue flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) down to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). To set the vacation tone early, travelers will enjoy complimentary in-flight drinks and entertainment courtesy of Virgin Voyages' "Happenings Cast." Early arrivals at JFK may also snag limited access to JetBlue’s new BlueHouse lounge.

Once you land in Florida, the hassle of coordinating ground transport is completely eliminated. The package includes private round-trip transfers directly to the Port of Miami, with your luggage seamlessly transferred to your stateroom. At the pier, guests will bypass the standard check-in lines with VIP RockStar entrance boarding.

The Destination: Brilliant Lady

The maritime leg of the journey takes place aboard Virgin Voyages' stunning new ship, the Brilliant Lady. Known for its strict 18-and-over policy, the cruise line extends the kid-free bliss for four nights. The itinerary features stops in Key West, Florida, and Virgin's private oasis, the Beach Club at Bimini in the Bahamas.

In addition to the Sea Terrace cabin, the package is loaded with premium perks, including a $100 stateroom Bar Tab, an exclusive welcome party featuring a JetBlue-themed signature cocktail, and special in-cabin welcome gifts.

How to Book (Act Fast!)

Priced at an incredibly competitive $2,750 for two guests, the package covers the round-trip airfare, the four-night cruise, transfers, taxes, fees, and prepaid gratuities. However, there is a catch: only 60 cabins are available.

With such limited inventory, spots are expected to vanish almost instantly. Bookings officially open on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. Reservations are handled exclusively by phone on a first-come, first-served basis through JetBlue Vacations.

While this is currently a one-off experiment, a rapid sell-out could signal a massive shift in the travel industry, paving the way for more kid-free flight routes in the future. For now, mark your calendars, because this is one departure you won't want to miss.

Travelore News: United Expands Economy Meal Preorder to Shorter Flights

2026-10-20T02:27:08.327-07:00

Say goodbye to the disappointment of hearing that the hot breakfast or your preferred sandwich has already sold out by the time the flight attendant reaches your row. In a welcome move for domestic travelers, United Airlines has officially expanded its United Economy meal preorder program to cover hundreds of shorter flights, granting up to 65,000 more customers a day the ability to lock in their inflight dining choices.

The New 900-Mile Threshold

Previously, the ability to preorder fresh "Bistro on Board" meals was restricted to flights covering more than 1,190 miles. However, United has significantly lowered that threshold. Effective immediately, passengers flying on routes over 900 miles across North America and the Caribbean can preselect their food before heading to the airport. This operational shift adds approximately 420 eligible flights per day to the program, including several high-traffic hub-to-hub routes such as Chicago to Houston, Denver to San Francisco, and Houston to Washington, D.C.

How to Order and What's on the Menu

The process for securing your meal remains seamless. Eligible customers can simply navigate to the "Trips" section on the United mobile app or united.com. The ordering window opens five days before departure and closes exactly 24 hours before your flight takes off. The app will even send a helpful notification alerting you when preordering becomes available for your specific itinerary.

The fresh food selections rotate on a monthly basis, offering a substantial upgrade over the standard complimentary snacks. Current menu highlights include a pork mojo burrito, a hearty Chicago patty melt crafted by Jeff Mauro of Mauro Provisions, a hot honey chicken and waffle sandwich, and a sweet cinnamon apple waffle.

Broader Onboard Upgrades

This expansion is part of United's larger push to elevate the passenger experience across all cabins. "We want our customers to have more of what they value when they fly—more choice, more convenience and a better experience onboard," said David Kinzelman, United's Chief Customer Officer. Kinzelman noted that the meal program expansion works in tandem with the airline's massive rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi and updated seatback entertainment systems.

Even if your flight doesn't hit the new 900-mile mark, United is refreshing its standard onboard retail offerings. Beginning November 1, the airline is updating the contents of its popular Tapas, Takeoff, and Recline snackboxes. Additionally, passengers can look out for seasonal offerings like the limited-edition "Wishes" snackbox, created in collaboration with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to support children with critical illnesses.

British Airways Announces New Tanzania Routes And Long-Haul Network Updates For Summer 2027

2026-10-19T09:32:32.500-07:00

British Airways is making a major push into East Africa next year. The airline has officially unveiled its summer 2027 long-haul schedule, highlighted by the addition of two spectacular new destinations in Tanzania: Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. Combined with significant capacity boosts across South America, the flag carrier is gearing up for a busy summer travel season.

A Triangular Route to Tanzania

Starting May 29, 2027, British Airways will offer UK travelers direct access to Tanzania's biggest tourism gateways. Operating three times a week from London Gatwick, the new seasonal service will run through October 31, 2027, perfectly timed to capture the peak safari season and UK school holidays.

The service will operate on a "triangle" routing—departing Gatwick, landing in Kilimanjaro, and then continuing onward to Zanzibar before returning to London. Here are the key details for the new East African operation:

The Aircraft: Flights will be operated on a Boeing 777, featuring three cabins: Club World (business class), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and World Traveller (economy).
Introductory Fares: Return fares start at £849, which includes taxes, fees, and a generous hand baggage allowance.
The Experience: The single itinerary allows travelers to seamlessly link a Mount Kilimanjaro trek or Serengeti safari with the pristine, white-sand beaches of the Indian Ocean coast.

Broader Summer 2027 Network Updates

Beyond the new footprint in Tanzania, British Airways is significantly strengthening its wider long-haul network from the end of March 2027. Passengers traveling to the Americas and Africa will see much more availability and frequency.

South America Expansion: The airline is increasing capacity to Latin America by 25 percent. This includes the introduction of non-stop flights to Buenos Aires, Argentina, with onward service to Santiago, Chile. The carrier is also increasing seat availability on its Rio de Janeiro flights.
Year-Round Costa Rica: Flights to San José, Costa Rica, will be extended to a year-round operation rather than just a seasonal offering.
More Flights to Popular Hubs: Additional frequencies will be added from London Heathrow to both Cape Town, South Africa, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Whether you are planning a bucket-list climb up Africa's highest peak or a vibrant escape to Buenos Aires, BA's latest network adjustments promise more choice and flexibility for the 2027 summer travel season.

Travelore News: United Airlines Expands Starlink Wi-Fi Rollout, Launches Tracker Tool, And Extends Status Match

2026-10-19T05:56:39.505-07:00

United Airlines is making rapid progress on its ambitious in-flight connectivity upgrade. The carrier has announced that its high-speed, free Starlink Wi-Fi is now active on nearly half of its daily departures. To celebrate the milestone and help travelers stay informed, United has launched a brand-new digital "Starlink Tracker" tool and extended its highly popular elite status match promotion.

Starlink Progress Across the Fleet

Starlink is currently active on more than 635 United mainline and United Express aircraft. This means the high-speed satellite internet is available on over 2,500 daily flights, serving approximately 250,000 passengers each day. The airline is aggressively expanding this footprint, installing the system on about 20 aircraft per week, with the ultimate goal of completing fleet-wide installations by the end of 2027.

The New Starlink Tracker Tool

To help travelers navigate the rollout, United introduced a dedicated digital tracking tool. By visiting StarlinkTracker.United.com within three days of departure, customers can enter their flight details to see if they will have access to the upgraded Wi-Fi. In addition to flight-specific checks, the tool provides broader insights, allowing users to:

Explore by Aircraft: Track installation progress across regional, narrowbody, and widebody planes.
View by Hub: See the percentage of Starlink-equipped flights departing from major hubs like Chicago, Newark, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, and Denver.

United will also begin notifying customers if their flight features Starlink via preflight emails, text notifications, the United app, onboard announcements, and inflight signage.

"Switch to Better Wi-Fi" Status Match Extended

Capitalizing on the excitement surrounding the new Wi-Fi, United's "Switch to Better Wi-Fi" status match campaign has been a massive success, driving a 10x increase in daily applications. In response to the demand, the airline is extending the application deadline through October 22, 2026. The promotion targets eligible Delta SkyMiles and American AAdvantage members, offering them the chance to match their current elite tier and keep United Premier status through January 2028.

Once approved, members have 90 days to take a United or United Express flight and meet the following spending requirements to maintain their status:

Premier® Silver: $1,500
Premier® Gold: $3,000
Premier® Platinum: $4,500
Premier® 1K: $7,000

Full eligibility details and terms can be found at united.com/switchtobetterwifi.

Arkia And Sun d'Or Relaunch Direct Routes Between Tel Aviv And Marrakech

2026-10-18T17:14:57.612-07:00

Direct air service between Israel and Morocco is officially back online, marking the return of Israeli travelers to the North African nation after a nearly three-year suspension of direct routes. Following the halt of flights in October 2023, airlines are now reviving connections to Marrakech to meet growing demand for heritage and leisure tourism.

Arkia and Sun d'Or Lead the Resumption

The push to restore air links began in August 2026 when Israeli carrier Arkia relaunched its direct route between Ben Gurion Airport and Marrakech. Operating twice a week with Airbus A320 aircraft, Arkia's return was the first step in re-establishing the popular travel corridor.

Following suit, El Al's subsidiary Sun d'Or announced it will begin direct flights to Marrakech starting November 16, 2026. Here are the details on the upcoming Sun d'Or service:

Flight Schedule: Sun d'Or will operate twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Introductory Fares: Launch prices start at $599 for a round-trip "Lite" ticket, which includes a carry-on bag and personal item.
Fleet Expansion: Israir has also joined the resurgence, operating flights to Marrakech as carriers ramp up winter schedules.

Surging Demand for Heritage and "Roots" Tours

Prior to the route suspensions, Morocco welcomed up to 200,000 Israeli tourists annually. The current travel revival is strongly driven by organized tours, particularly heritage and "roots" trips for Israelis of Moroccan descent. Travelers are exploring historic Jewish quarters, cemeteries, and synagogues, while benefiting from an increase in accessible kosher dining options across major cities.

Travel Advisories and Security

Despite the high demand, Israel's National Security Council maintains a Level 3 travel advisory for Morocco, recommending increased caution in northern and central regions and advising against non-essential travel to the south. However, travel industry experts emphasize that the primary tourist routes remain secure, with local authorities heavily involved in ensuring visitor safety. Travelers are advised to book direct flights and maintain comprehensive travel insurance.

As flight capacity increases through the winter season, Morocco is once again positioning itself as a premier destination for travelers seeking deep cultural and historical connections.

The men's and women's kits will feature products from Sisley's premium anti-aging skincare ranges, Sisleÿum and Sisleÿa, respectively.

Premium Economy, Economy, and Young Travelers

The upgrades extend throughout the aircraft. Premium Economy passengers will receive an airline-designed pouch featuring the batik motif, containing a white tea-scented lip balm from Australian brand Ink & Water, as well as eyeshades, socks, and a dental kit. Economy Class customers will be gifted a collectible drawstring pouch carrying the same signature design and essential comfort items. Finally, through an exciting collaboration with Disney, children aged 12 and under will receive exclusive Pixar Toy Story-themed amenities to keep them engaged during the flight.

Travelore News: The High Museum Of Art Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary

2026-10-17T09:38:11.040-07:00

For a century, the High Museum of Art has been the cultural heartbeat of Atlanta. What began in 1926 as a modest gallery in the donated Peachtree Street home of Harriet "Hattie" High has remarkably transformed into the premier art museum of the Southeast. This year, the High is officially celebrating its centennial, and the museum is marking its 100th birthday with an incredible lineup of community events, major new acquisitions, and blockbuster exhibitions that look both back at its storied past and forward to its next century.

From a Donated Home to an Architectural Marvel

The history of the High is deeply intertwined with the growth of Atlanta itself. From its early days operating out of Hattie High's renovated residence, the museum expanded to its first dedicated building in 1955. However, it was the 1983 opening of the iconic, gleaming white building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier that truly put the museum on the global map. Later expansions by Renzo Piano solidified its current sprawling Midtown campus. As part of the centennial celebrations, the museum is offering a special Walking Tour: 100 Years of High Museum History on October 29, 2026, allowing visitors to explore the architectural evolution of the campus.

The Centennial Block Party and October Celebrations

To celebrate this monumental milestone, the High is throwing a massive birthday bash and inviting the entire city. Here are some of the highlight events taking place this October:

Centennial Block Party (October 18): The High is taking over Peachtree Street from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a massive, free public block party. Expect live music, DJs, local food vendors, art-making activities, and plenty of special surprises.
100 Years of Art in Atlanta (October 18): Taking place during the Block Party, this panel conversation will dive into three transformative moments in the museum's history and their lasting impact on the city.
Access for All: Centennial Celebration (October 21): Enjoy a full day of free admission from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., complete with drop-in programming and gallery conversations.
A Haunting at 100 (October 30): The museum is combining its centennial with the Halloween season for an evening party celebrating "a century of secrets," featuring art-making, performances, and late-night gallery access.

Blockbuster Exhibitions and 200+ New Acquisitions

The High is not just celebrating with parties; they are drastically enriching their permanent collection. To mark the 100th anniversary, the museum is introducing more than 200 important new acquisitions across photography, contemporary design, African art, and American art.

The 2026-2027 centennial exhibition schedule is equally impressive. Visitors can explore Amy Sherald: American Sublime, a major retrospective of the contemporary painter, as well as Martin Puryear: Nexus, which brings over 70 works to Atlanta for the final stop of the sculptor's comprehensive career survey.

Taking Art Beyond the Walls

As the High looks to the future, it is pushing its boundaries beyond Midtown. The museum is launching public art installations and partnering with local icons like the Atlanta BeltLine, MARTA, Delta Air Lines, UPS, and the Atlanta Hawks to ensure the centennial is felt across the entire region. Furthermore, the museum is publishing a commemorative book featuring 100 large-scale reproductions of landmark artworks alongside a photo-rich timeline of its 100-year journey.

Whether you are a lifelong Atlantan or planning a trip to the city soon, there has never been a better time to experience the High Museum of Art. Happy 100th Birthday to a true Atlanta icon!

American Airlines Unveils Sweeping Premium Enhancements At Dallas Fort Worth

2026-10-17T02:06:49.109-07:00

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is the bustling heart of the American Airlines network, and the carrier is making massive investments to ensure the premium passenger experience matches the scale of its operations. From an entirely new check-in concept to record-breaking lounge spaces, American is transforming the journey from the ground up. Here is a look at the major premium enhancements coming to DFW.

The Largest Admirals Club in the World (Terminal C)

The crown jewel of this expansion is a brand-new Admirals Club slated for the redesigned Terminal C. Spanning a massive 37,000 square feet, it will officially be the largest lounge in American Airlines' entire global network. The club will feature the sleek, modern design seen in recent lounge openings, providing expansive spaces for work and relaxation. Guests can expect elevated, chef-inspired culinary offerings, including an expanded all-day selection of charcuterie. The premium beverage program will pour signature cocktails, specialty spirits, and local favorites, alongside upscale options like Champagne Bollinger and Lavazza coffee. Located near the Skylink station, it will serve as a premier haven for connecting travelers.

An Exclusive Start: Flagship Check-In (Terminal D)

To streamline the airport experience before passengers even reach security, American is introducing a dedicated Flagship Check-In facility in Terminal D. Opening later in 2026, this exclusive space will offer eligible premium customers a highly personalized, private check-in environment. The tailored service is designed to expedite the arrival process and provide a seamless transition directly to the security checkpoints, ensuring the premium journey begins the moment travelers step into the airport.

Grab-and-Go Convenience: Provisions by Admirals Club (Terminal F)

Understanding that not every traveler has the time for a prolonged lounge visit, American is bringing its popular "Provisions by Admirals Club" concept to DFW's upcoming Terminal F. First introduced in Charlotte, this grab-and-go lounge provides eligible passengers with a streamlined way to quickly secure high-quality food and beverages without occupying a seat in a traditional lounge. This facility is expected to debut alongside the initial 15-gate phase of the new Terminal F, which is slated to open in 2027.

These premium additions are part of a broader, multibillion-dollar modernization effort at DFW, which recently saw the opening of a new Terminal C pier expansion featuring electronic boarding gates. By heavily investing in infrastructure rather than just adding immediate flight capacity, American Airlines is laying the groundwork for a far more comfortable, efficient, and luxurious travel experience for years to come.

Travelore News: Frontier Airlines Launches First-Ever South American Service With 3 New Routes To Colombia

2026-10-16T09:07:39.677-07:00

Frontier Airlines has announced a major network expansion, marking its first-ever foray into South America. Beginning in December 2026, the ultra-low-cost carrier will launch three new nonstop routes connecting Orlando International Airport (MCO) with Colombia.

The Details: Orlando to Colombia

The new routes will link Central Florida directly to three of Colombia's major tourism and business hubs, utilizing Frontier's Airbus A320-family aircraft:

Medellín (MDE): Daily service is scheduled to begin on December 10, 2026. Introductory one-way fares on this route start at $169.
Bogotá (BOG): Flights will launch on December 14, 2026, initially operating six times per week. This will increase to daily service starting March 6, 2027. Introductory one-way fares are advertised from $99.
Cartagena (CTG): Service to the Caribbean coastal city begins December 19, 2026, operating once a week. Fares start at $129 one-way.

It is important to note that all three of these new routes remain subject to approval by government authorities. The promotional fares apply to select dates from January 14 to April 5, 2027 (excluding March 23-30), and must be booked by September 16, 2026.

Strategic Network Growth

While Bogotá and Medellín represent Frontier's headline-making entrance into the South American market, the addition of Cartagena directly aligns with the airline's broader strategy of aggressive expansion across the Caribbean region over the past half-decade. The airline sees significant unmet demand for low-cost travel between Orlando and Colombia, providing travelers with new affordable options for reaching these massive leisure and business markets.

Travelore News: The Plaza Hotel In NYC To Close For A 4-Year Restoration

2026-10-16T06:48:47.114-07:00

One of New York City's most iconic landmarks is preparing to temporarily shut its doors. The Plaza Hotel, the world-famous luxury property sitting at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, has announced it will close starting in January 2027. The shutdown is expected to last for at least four years to accommodate a massive, complex restoration of its historic exterior facade.

Why is The Plaza Closing?

The decision to close the 119-year-old hotel stems from the sheer scale of the upcoming exterior repairs. According to the hotel's operator, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the complex undertaking of restoring the historic facade, roof, and terracotta tiles will create a "significant intrusion to operations." Rather than subject guests to years of scaffolding, noise, and construction disruptions, ownership opted for a full closure.

The restoration is part of a continuing maintenance program mandated by a previous agreement with the City Planning Commission to ensure the long-term preservation of the French Renaissance chateau-style building, originally designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh in 1907. Furthermore, New York City’s Facade Inspection Safety Program (Local Law 11) strictly requires owners of buildings taller than six stories to undergo thorough exterior inspections and necessary repairs.

What Will Happen to the Palm Court and Residences?

The closure will affect the entire hotel operation. Beloved public spaces, including the legendary event rooms and the famous Palm Court restaurant, will cease operations in January. While the hotel features 282 guest rooms, it is also home to 181 luxury condominiums. At this time, it remains unclear if or how the condo residents will be displaced or affected during the four-year construction period. On a positive note, the Hotel & Trades Council, which represents the hotel's 378 union workers, has stated that employees will be entitled to return to their jobs at their same pay levels once the hotel finally reopens.

A Legacy Anchored in Pop Culture

Since opening its doors, The Plaza has been much more than just a place to sleep; it is a cultural institution. It has hosted royalty, dignitaries, and Hollywood stars spanning generations, from Truman Capote and Liza Minnelli to John Lennon. The hotel's pop-culture footprint is unmatched, serving as a prominent backdrop in classic literature like F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and Kay Thompson's beloved Eloise children's books. On the silver screen, it has famously been featured in blockbusters like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Bride Wars.

While it will certainly be strange to see the corner of Central Park South without the bustling energy of The Plaza for the next few years, this meticulous restoration ensures that the "Castle on Central Park" will remain a gleaming fixture of the New York City skyline for another century.

America's Oldest City Is Still Writing Its Hispanic Cultural Legacy

2026-10-15T10:58:58.929-07:00

St. Augustine pairs more than 460 years of Hispanic heritage with architecture, culinary traditions, cultural experiences, and the spiritual journey.

St. Augustine is inviting travelers to discover the nation's oldest continuously occupied European-established city through immersive cultural experiences that celebrate Hispanic heritage, historic architecture, community traditions, gastronomy and the spiritual legacy of El Camino de Santiago Florida.

Founded in 1565, St. Augustine offers visitors more than 460 years of living history, where Spanish Colonial architecture, centuries-old landmarks and vibrant neighborhoods come together to create one of North America's most culturally significant destinations.

The City of Firsts

St. Augustine is home to many of the earliest milestones in what would become the United States. Visitors can explore the site of the nation's first Catholic parish, established in 1565, and experience the legacy of the first recorded Catholic Mass celebrated in what is now the continental United States. The city also preserves the story of Fort Mose Historic State Park, the site of the first legally sanctioned free Black settlement in what is now the United States, where formerly enslaved people found refuge under Spanish rule. Nearby, Mission Nombre de Dios commemorates the first successful Spanish mission in the region, while local historians also recognize St. Augustine as the setting for one of the earliest documented community Thanksgiving celebrations in North America, held by Spanish settlers decades before the Pilgrims arrived in New England.

Architecture That Tells a Story

St. Augustine's architecture reflects more than four centuries of cultural influences, making the city an open-air museum of Spanish Colonial, Gilded Age and Mediterranean Revival design. Visitors can explore iconic landmarks including the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Plaza de la Constitución and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, each offering a window into the city's Spanish colonial heritage through its distinctive coquina stone construction and historic design.

The city's architectural story extends beyond its colonial roots. The former Ponce de Leon Hotel—now home to Flagler College—stands as one of the finest examples of Gilded Age architecture in the United States, showcasing grand courtyards, Tiffany stained-glass windows and ornate Spanish Renaissance Revival design commissioned by railroad pioneer Henry Flagler.

Nearby, the Villa Zorayda Museum, inspired by Spain's 12th-century Alhambra Palace in Granada, introduces visitors to Moorish Revival architecture with its intricate details, hand-painted interiors, and collection of international art and antiques. Another architectural gem, Casa Monica Resort & Spa, blends Moroccan-inspired design with luxury hospitality. Originally opened in 1888 by Franklin W. Smith, the landmark hotel remains one of St. Augustine's most recognizable historic buildings and a centerpiece of the city's architectural landscape.

Together, these landmarks illustrate St. Augustine's evolution through centuries of architectural styles, offering visitors a journey from Spanish colonial beginnings to the grandeur of America's Gilded Age.

Air Canada Takes Additional Measures To Make Travel Easier for Customers Travelling With Mobility Aids

2026-10-14T11:27:21.831-07:00

Air Canada has rolled out a comprehensive new mobility aid travel policy designed to make flying simpler, more consistent, and less stressful for customers with disabilities. Announced in late August 2026, this updated policy is a major step forward in removing barriers to participation in both leisure travel and adaptive sports.

For travelers who rely on mobility equipment, navigating the airport and trusting that essential devices will arrive safely can be a major source of anxiety. Air Canada’s new measures aim to provide a more dignified and predictable travel experience at every stage of the journey.

Key Highlights of the New Policy

Up to Three Complimentary Mobility Aids: Customers can now travel free of charge with up to three mobility-related items. This expanded allowance covers any combination of personal mobility aids, adaptive sports equipment, and personal or patient transfer devices (such as Hoyer lifts).
Complimentary Cargo Transport: Sometimes, vital equipment is simply too large to fit safely into the cargo hold of a passenger aircraft. If a mobility aid is too large to travel on the same aircraft as the customer, Air Canada Cargo will now transport it within Canada completely free of charge.
Digital Tracking for Peace of Mind: As part of its broader Accessibility Plan, Air Canada has introduced a mobility aid tracking feature built directly into the Air Canada app. Travelers can now confirm the loading and unloading status of their equipment right from their smartphones, eliminating the guesswork at the gate.
Enhanced Airport Support and Handling: The airline has reviewed its operational procedures and invested in specialized lift equipment at airports across Canada. Furthermore, they are continuing to provide targeted employee training to ensure mobility aids are handled safely and customers are supported respectfully.

A Meaningful Impact for All Travelers

According to Kerianne Wilson, Director of Customer Accessibility at Air Canada, the policy aims to give passengers clearer expectations and greater confidence, acknowledging the significant planning required when traveling with essential mobility devices.

The explicit inclusion of adaptive sports equipment is also a massive win for the Para sport community. By recognizing that these items are extensions of daily life and participation rather than just "extra luggage," Air Canada is making travel more affordable and accessible for athletes at all levels—from recreational participants to high-performance competitors.

This move marks a significant effort by Air Canada to listen to the lived experiences of travelers with disabilities and implement practical, dignified solutions.

Travelore News: Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum Secures Funding Deal To Avoid Closure

2026-10-14T04:48:47.178-07:00

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has officially secured its future following a nearly three-year dispute with the Dutch government over state subsidies. The museum announced that it has successfully reached a funding agreement with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, avoiding a previously threatened closure and paving the way for a massive upcoming renovation.

A Dispute Over a 1962 Agreement

Tensions had been rising since the museum requested an additional €2.5 million a year on top of its existing state subsidy to cover essential building maintenance. The museum's director, Emilie Gordenker, even warned that the financial situation was becoming dangerous for both the art and the visitors. At the heart of the legal spat was a historic 1962 agreement: Vincent Willem van Gogh (the artist’s nephew) transferred the family collection to the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, and in return, the Dutch state legally committed to building, funding, and maintaining a permanent museum to house the artwork.

"Masterplan 2028" Renovation Budget

With the new settlement in place, the museum is moving forward with its ambitious "Masterplan 2028." The renovation is projected to cost approximately €104 million. This budget breaks down into roughly €76 million for essential maintenance and replacement of outdated systems after 50 years of intensive use, €23 million for sustainability measures, and €5 million for additional building improvements.

Good News for Travelers

Renovation work is currently scheduled to begin in the autumn of 2028. Fortunately for art lovers planning a trip to the Netherlands, the Van Gogh Museum will remain partially open throughout the entire duration of the project. Visitors will still have access to the permanent collection, ensuring that the world's largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh—which attracts around 1.8 million visitors annually—will not be entirely cut off from the public.

A New Era For The Met: Inside The Future Oscar L. Tang And H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing

2026-10-13T17:35:35.464-07:00

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has officially embarked on its next grand chapter. On September 15, 2026, The Met broke ground on the highly anticipated Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing, a state-of-the-art expansion that will reimagine how visitors experience Modern and Contemporary art in New York City.

A Historic Design by Frida Escobedo

Scheduled to open in 2030, the 126,000-square-foot expansion is designed by acclaimed Mexican architect Frida Escobedo. Her appointment marks a historic milestone, as she is the first woman to design a wing in The Met's 156-year history. Escobedo's vision seamlessly blends the museum's architectural heritage with contemporary innovation. The exterior will feature a striking limestone "celosía" (lattice) screen that responds to the movement of sunlight, while the structure itself will remain respectfully within the museum's existing footprint, standing no higher than the original 1880 central building.

What to Expect in the New Tang Wing

Replacing the former Lila Acheson Wallace Wing, the Tang Wing will provide a 50 percent increase in gallery space dedicated to 20th- and 21st-century art. Here is a look at what the $670 million project will bring to the Fifth Avenue institution:

Expansive Galleries: The wing will feature 69,500 square feet of exhibition space. With ceiling heights ranging from 11 to 22 feet, the galleries are specifically scaled to accommodate everything from intimate works to massive, large-scale contemporary installations.
Stunning Park and Skyline Views: The design opens the museum up to its surroundings like never before. Large, bird-friendly windows will flood the galleries with natural light. Visitors will also enjoy 18,500 square feet of outdoor space, including an expanded fourth-floor terrace and a year-round fifth-floor café offering panoramic views of Central Park and the Midtown skyline.
Enhanced Accessibility and Sustainability: The redesign addresses critical infrastructure needs by adding new elevator cores, accessible ramps, and clearer circulation routes connecting to adjacent wings. The building will also utilize cutting-edge practices to dramatically reduce energy consumption.

While 2030 may feel like a long wait, The Met is ensuring that art lovers won't miss out in the meantime. Modern and contemporary works will remain on view through rotating installations across the museum throughout the construction period.

Travelore News: British Airways Unveils Next Phase Of Heathrow Lounge Transformation With New Terminal 5 Lounge

2026-10-12T01:02:31.471-07:00

The era of simply biding time until boarding is over. British Airways has officially pulled back the curtain on the next massive phase of its lounge transformation at London Heathrow, promising a revolutionary upgrade to the premium passenger experience. Starting with targeted makeovers and culminating in a full-scale redesign expected to launch in 2026, the Terminal 5 lounges are set to become a world-class destination in their own right.

Category: A New Global Design Concept

After pandemic-related delays, British Airways is charging forward with a multi-year, multi-million-pound investment that goes far beyond new upholstery. The upcoming renovations will introduce a brand-new global design concept—recently debuted to rave reviews in Miami—that emphasizes contemporary British style, elevated comfort, and seamless technology integration. Passengers can expect redefined service zones, enhanced privacy, and a more intuitive flow throughout the spaces.

Category: What to Expect in Terminal 5

The transformation is vast, addressing the airline's massive footprint across Terminal 5. The project kicks off with a complete strip-out and rebuild of the Terminal 5 Arrivals Lounge, ensuring passengers landing in London have a rejuvenated sanctuary for refreshing. Looking ahead to 2026, plans point to a potential expansion of the North Club lounge and a major reconfiguration of the South lounges complex.

There is also strong speculation about the addition of an entirely new lounge space in Terminal 5C, which would cater to long-haul transit passengers, saving them the trek back to the main concourse.

Category: Elevated Culinary and Wellness Offerings

This next phase builds upon the successful recent additions to the T5 Galleries Lounge, including the ultra-chic Whispering Angel Bar and the introduction of live cooking stations. Moving forward, British Airways is heavily focusing on wellness and personalization. Expect to see expanded made-to-order dining options mirroring high-end restaurants, upgraded buffet services, and dedicated quiet zones designed to offer a peaceful escape from the bustling terminal.

Category: Preparing for the Transition

With eight lounges and tens of thousands of daily visitors across Terminals 3 and 5, a refurbishment of this scale is monumental. While frequent flyers should brace for potential capacity constraints during construction over the coming years, the consensus is clear: the wait will be worth it. The transformation promises to re-establish British Airways' flagship lounges as some of the most luxurious and technologically advanced aviation spaces in the world.

Michigan’s Ford International Airport Debuts U.S.-First Self-Service Baggage System

2026-10-11T17:42:56.670-07:00

Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is making aviation history as the first airport in the United States to pair a fully passenger-operated self-service bag drop with an advanced Individual Carrier System (ICS). The milestone arrives as part of the airport's major $135 million terminal enhancement program.

What Makes the System a U.S. First?

While standalone self-service bag drops operate at a few major hubs, GRR is the first American airport to directly integrate traveler kiosks with an automated tote-based ICS:

Individual Carrier System (ICS): Instead of loose luggage sliding across shared belts, each suitcase is loaded into an individual RFID-tracked tote.
Seamless Transit: Totes transport luggage continuously from passenger drop-off directly through automated TSA screening and out to airline sorting bays without manual bottleneck handling.
Jam & Damage Prevention: Independent totes protect straps, wheels, and loose handles from snagging on conveyor belts.
Capacity Boost: Upgraded processing increases baggage throughput from roughly 600 bags per hour to nearly 1,000 bags per hour.

Step-by-Step Passenger Bag-Drop Process

Step	Passenger Action	System Operation
1. Check-In	Scan boarding pass or check in at the airline self-service kiosk.	Validates itinerary and baggage allowances.
2. Tag Luggage	Print baggage tags and securely attach them to suitcase handles.	Generates RFID-linked tracking data.
3. Deposit Bag	Place luggage on the designated self-service drop conveyor.	Scans weight, dimensions, and assigns bag to an ICS carrier tote.
4. Verification	Follow on-screen confirmation prompts and collect baggage receipt.	Dispatches tote straight to TSA security screening.

Airline Rollout Timeline

Phase 1 (September 9, 2026): American Airlines, United Airlines, and Frontier Airlines.
Phase 2 (2027): Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Allegiant Air, Avelo Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.
Staff Assistance: Airline agents remain stationed in the check-in lobby to assist with oversized bags, pet travel, mobility devices, and general customer support.

Travelore News: With 32 Locations and Growing, American Express Expands Its Centurion Lounge Network

2026-10-11T03:42:46.543-07:00

The premium airport lounge wars are heating up. With 32 locations globally, American Express has announced a major expansion of its industry-leading Centurion Lounge network. Looking to alleviate overcrowding and cater to its premium cardholders, the company is bringing entirely new concepts and much-needed capacity to major U.S. transit hubs.

Category: Boston Finally Gets a Centurion Lounge

Northeast frequent flyers have something to celebrate. Expected to open in 2029, a brand-new lounge is coming to Boston Logan International Airport . The space is designed to reflect the city’s rich academic legacy and will feature local artwork inspired by Boston's harbor and the Charles River. This addition will fill a significant gap in the East Coast market for American Express loyalists.

Category: Charlotte's "Sidecar" Concept

Down south, travelers can look forward to the second-ever "Sidecar" concept opening at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in 2027. Following the debut of the Sidecar in Las Vegas, this 4,600-square-foot space is intentionally designed for efficiency rather than long layovers. It will offer quick bites, private restrooms, and a dedicated Blue Roast Coffee Bar for barista-made drinks on the go.

Category: Massive Dallas-Fort Worth Expansion

In addition to the new airport footprint, Amex is heavily investing in its existing properties. Also slated for 2027, the popular lounge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will undergo a 50% size expansion. This major upgrade will introduce a new dining area, more seating, a second full-service bar, and a walk-up ice cream window for travelers needing a quick sweet treat.

Travelore News: American Airlines Will Bring High-Speed Starlink Wi-Fi To Its Entire Mainline Fleet

2026-10-10T02:28:34.210-07:00

The inflight Wi-Fi revolution is accelerating. In a move that dramatically broadens its commitment to high-speed connectivity, American Airlines has announced plans to install SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service across its entire mainline fleet. The expanded rollout will eventually equip more than 1,000 aircraft, giving passengers access to some of the fastest and most reliable internet available in the skies.

Category: Doubling Down on Next-Gen Connectivity

In May, American initially announced plans to bring Starlink to approximately 500 of its Airbus narrowbody jets. Now, the carrier is going all-in. The updated agreement extends the Starlink rollout to include the remainder of its mainline fleet, notably encompassing the Boeing 737s as well as the twin-aisle Boeing 777 and 787 widebodies that operate long-haul international routes. This is a crucial upgrade for international travelers who frequently experience connectivity gaps over oceans with legacy satellite systems.

Category: The Timeline and Technology

Installations are scheduled to begin in early 2027. American Airlines will utilize Starlink's Performance Aero Terminal, which promises peak throughput of up to 1 gigabit per second per antenna. Thanks to Starlink's low-Earth orbit satellite network, passengers can expect low-latency service capable of supporting seamless streaming, gaming, and VPN usage from gate to gate.

It is important to note that this commitment currently applies only to the mainline fleet; smaller American Eagle regional jets are not included in this phase of the Starlink rollout.

Category: The Race for the Best Inflight Wi-Fi

American’s announcement heats up the arms race among major U.S. carriers to overhaul inflight connectivity. United Airlines recently made waves by choosing Starlink for its entire fleet—including its regional jets—with installations already underway. Meanwhile, carriers like Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines are also moving forward with Starlink. Delta Air Lines, conversely, is relying on its existing high-speed Viasat network while waiting for Amazon’s rival Project Kuiper satellite network to become operational in the coming years.

For American Airlines frequent flyers, the days of struggling to send an email at 35,000 feet are finally numbered. The expansive Starlink upgrade promises to make reliable, high-speed internet the new baseline for domestic and international travel.

Leveling The Playing Field: JetBlue Expands Lounge Access To Rival Delta and United

2026-10-09T18:40:56.188-07:00

JetBlue has officially announced a significant policy shift for its upcoming airport lounges, confirming that all Mint business-class passengers—including those flying domestic and Caribbean routes—will receive complimentary access.

Previously, JetBlue planned to restrict complimentary lounge entry to transatlantic Mint travelers, top-tier Mosaic 4 elite members, and holders of its premium credit card. Under the initial rules, flyers on transcontinental routes (such as New York–JFK to Los Angeles or San Francisco) would have had to purchase a discounted one-time pass.

Key Details of the Policy Update

Universal Mint Access: Complimentary lounge access applies to all confirmed Mint and Mint Flex ticket holders, regardless of destination (domestic, Caribbean, Latin America, or Europe).
Lounge Rollout: The first lounges—branded as BlueHouse—are slated to debut at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS, Terminal C) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK, Terminal 5).
Guest Policy: Mint passengers receive complimentary access for themselves, while additional accompanying guests can enter for a $39 fee per person.
Additional Eligible Travelers: Top-tier TrueBlue Mosaic 4 members and JetBlue Premier Cardmembers continue to receive complimentary entry plus one free guest.

This change aligns JetBlue’s premium ground experience with competitors like Delta One, United Polaris, and American Flagship First/Business, eliminating customer confusion and solidifying the end-to-end premium value of the Mint experience.

Travelore News: JetBlue Wins Final FAA Approval For Major LaGuardia Expansion

2026-10-09T04:57:32.865-07:00

JetBlue just secured a significant victory in the ultra-competitive New York aviation market. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has officially given JetBlue the green light to take over 22 takeoff and landing slots at LaGuardia Airport (LGA). These highly coveted operating rights were previously held by the now-defunct Spirit Airlines, which ceased passenger operations on May 2, 2026.

With this final regulatory hurdle cleared, here is what travelers need to know about JetBlue's growing footprint in the Big Apple.

The $58.5 Million Bidding War

Landing slots at slot-controlled Level 3 airports like LaGuardia are incredibly scarce and valuable pieces of aviation real estate. During the court-supervised bankruptcy auction over the summer, JetBlue won the package of 22 slots—consisting of 12 daily departures and 10 arrivals—with a $58.5 million bid. The airline narrowly edged out fellow low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines, which bid $57.5 million. While competing airlines argued that giving the slots to JetBlue would diminish budget options, regulators noted that even with this expansion, JetBlue will still hold less than 5% of LaGuardia’s total slot capacity.

A Historic New Home at LGA

In tandem with the expansion, JetBlue has reportedly told its employees that the airline plans to move its operations into Spirit’s former LaGuardia home: the iconic, Art Deco Terminal A, better known as the Marine Air Terminal. This move will give JetBlue passengers a dedicated, easily navigable, and historically charming space to pass through before their flights.

What This Means For Your Next Vacation

For travelers based in the Northeast, the acquisition means more frequency and connectivity out of LaGuardia. However, due to the airport's strict perimeter rules—which generally restrict nonstop service to destinations within 1,500 statute miles—travelers shouldn't expect a flood of direct flights to the deep Caribbean. Instead, these new flights will likely strengthen JetBlue’s domestic network and offer more robust connecting itineraries through hubs like Fort Lauderdale to reach destinations like Aruba, St. Maarten, and Santo Domingo.

When Will the Flights Begin?

You won't see these new routes on the departure boards just yet. To give JetBlue time to incorporate the massive capacity addition into its schedule, the FAA has waived its standard "use-it-or-lose-it" rule for these slots until April 2027. The approval also comes with a notable condition: JetBlue is prohibited from leasing or trading any of these 22 slots to another airline until after April 2028. Expect the airline to officially roll out its newly expanded LaGuardia schedule and open ticket sales for 2027 in the coming months.
