Grant Opportunity for 4-H Groups

Friends for Change Grants offer young change-makers an opportunity to receive a $1,000 grant to help make a lasting, positive change in the world.

Whether you are passionate about protecting the planet, providing meals to those who need it or giving kids just like you the resources they need to star in their own play, be an athlete or an artist, you can be a Friend for Change! Whatever your interests, a Disney Friends for Change Grant can help you make a difference for people, communities and the planet.

Youth ages 5-18 located in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are eligible to apply for a $1,000 grant.

Applications are due by midnight on February 29, 2012.

4-H Volunteer Conference

The opportunities for our youth, our volunteers, and our 4-H Program continue to grow! With this growth comes the need to prepare and provide our volunteers with the best resources and training possible. As our 4-H Program continues to expand and become more vital to the youth of Texas, it is imperative that we effectively engage and empower our volunteer network.
Our volunteers need access to the highest quality educators and resources so they are best equipped to return to their counties and work in partnership with their local County Extension Agents to further develop our youth. This has never been more important as we consider how to most effectively lead our youth.
The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program will be sponsoring a state-wide leader training on July 27-29, 2012 in San Antonio to prepare the new generation of 4-H volunteers to lead and instruct our members.

Internet Safety Workshop for Parents

Google and the organization, iKeepSafe, are sponsoring a free internet safety workshop open to all parents, teachers, and community members in Austin. The goal is that parents will leave the event feeling equipped with strategies and information that will help ensure that their children have the best possible online experience.

Rodeo Extravaganza

The Texas 4-H Foundation Trustees are excited to announce a new fundraising opportunity. "Rodeo Extravaganza ~ Texas 4-H Style". This raffle is to benefit the 4-H members in Texas through county program support grants, scholarships and statewide event sponsorship. Prize package includes premier rodeo tickets to major Texas rodeos beginning Fall 2012 - Spring 2013, free nights stay at hotel, $500 gift certificate, pair of 4-H boots, western hat, trophy belt buckle, Priefert calf roping chute, calf roping dummy and ropes, and 10 pairs of Wrangler jeans. Texas 4-H Golf Challenge Camp - Registration is now open!

The Texas 4-H and Youth Development is pleased to offer the first ever Texas 4-H Golf Challenge Camp. This two day camp provides youth 12-18 an opportunity to take an in depth look at the major components that make up the Texas 4-H Golf Challenge (sports nutrition, golf course/turf grass management, and the rules and etiquette of golf). During this two day event, youth will work with Texas A&M Faculty and Staff as well as golf professionals to learn more about the program. The camp will also give youth the opportunity to learn more about career opportunities related to the Golf Challenge and how to prepare for college. Lastly, youth will work with golf professionals to enhance their swing capabilities and compete in numerous skill activities. The event will take place April 27-29, 2012 in College Station. The cost to attend is $250 (includes lodging for two nights, meals, professional instruction, t-shirt, and golf instruction, transportation to and from locations). National 4-H Congress

The Texas 4-H will be accepting applications for the 2012 National 4-H Congress beginning February 13th and ending April 16th on 4-H Connect. The 2012 National 4-H Congress will be Thursday, November 29 through Tuesday, December 4 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Georgia. National 4-H Congress is the flagship event of the National 4-H program. Each year a National Design Team of Extension educators, 4-H youth, and 4-H adult volunteers analyze current youth issues and determine the most effective ways to address them. The program combines a variety of fun and exciting educational, recreational and networking opportunities. The program combines plenary sessions, seminars, discussion groups, and a service learning experience. The nation’s most outstanding community leaders, speakers, and educators present the most current and timely information available.

2012 Texas 4-H Congress

Texas 4-H Congress is the premiere citizenship and leadership experience for Texas 4-H members between the ages of 15 and 18. Held on the even numbers years in the Texas State Capitol, Texas 4-H Congress allows 4-H members to experience the law making process first hand by writing, submitting, and then serving as a member of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Press, or as a Lobbyist. From these roles, the 4-H members determine the fate of each bill submitted over the four day event.

School Tour Guides - Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo

The school tours committee for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo is looking for youth ages 14 and up to serve as guides for the schools that will be touring the grounds. The tours will take place during the week of March 19-23. Tour Guides are expected to arrive on the grounds around 8:15 a.m. and will end sometime after1:30 or so. Email Cory (cmtalley@ag.tamu.edu) if you are interested in assisting with this leadership opportunity. All those participating will need to submit an academic eligibility form that will be posted on travis4h.com in February.

Upon emailing, be sure to indicate the day(s) you intend to volunteer.

Recipe Rally

In the 4-H Recipe Rally, intermediate and senior 4-H members are challenged with selecting, creating, and/or altering a recipe and submitting a video, via YouTube. The video should highlight the 4-H member demonstrating the preparation of the recipe while also highlighting nutrients, food safety practices, serving size and cost analysis, as well as their inspiration for selection or creation of the recipe. The theme for the 2012 contest is “Summer Snacks.”

Deep In The Heart Movie - Release Date!

DEEP IN THE HEART - "Official Release Date" in "ALL TEXAS CINEMARK THEATERS" is February 17th.

"Deep in the Heart" reveals the true-life story of Mr. Richard "Dick" Wallrath. No one person has ever given more financially to the Texas 4-H and Texas FFA Scholarship Programs than Dick Wallrath. He has also provided tremendous financial assistance to 4-H and FFA members through major livestock show premium auctions.

We sincerely request that our Extension and 4-H Family support this emotion-packed documentary of Dick's life for two reasons. First, it could have an impact on your own life. And secondly, because of Mr. Wallrath’s continued generosity, a portion of all ticket sales will go to both Texas 4-H and Texas FFA to further strengthen their much needed scholarship programs.

Please promote the importance of the opening weekend of February 17^th. The success of this opening weekend will dictate their plan for nationwide release. Of course, the more success the movie has, the more funds are contributed to Texas 4-H and Texas FFA.
