Hit the ramp at 7:00 to about 100 boats (flw tour). Once we got in the water, I decided to head on down to the Monkey Box. There were a bunch of people fishing there but I did not see them doing much of anything. I thought to myself great...I just ran 30 minutes to not get a bite. I looked around the area and found a few spots were the wing was creating channels in the grass. I thought that this moving water would create spots where bass would want to pile up to ambush bait as it came through. the next hting i needed to figure out what was the bait du jour.....I ran through a few baits and then i saw some bait jumping. I matched the color and the action and it was on. The moving water was definitely where they were at. In a matter of a few hours we put about 45 bass in the boat. The biggest 5 weighed in at approx 16.5 pounds. I knew that we were on to something because other boats started to look and figure out what we were using.... I don't know what weight won the tourney but I can tell you that if you were chucking the wrong bait you were getting skunked as was evident by some of the flw boats not even weighing in...go figure...I guess i just got lucky and picked the right bait and habitat to fish. Was a great day out there aside from the slight sunburn I am dealing with. Any way....keep the lines tight....

Seeing that the lake is about 70 miles from the house we had to leave pretty early. I had never fished this lake before but had completed some research prior to heading out so I was prepared or at least I thought i was. I wanted to fish the west side of the lake but with the wind howling that was not an option. We headed to the south side of the lake and pretty much spent the day down there. We fish cypress stands, grass, liliy pads etc....The fish were simply not cooperating. I did get a couple in the boat but they were dinks. The wifes uncle got a few a well but were tiny as well. He did get a nice Crappie that we released. I suspect that the front that was coming through turned the fish off but who knows.

I can say that the lake is pretty majestic..and the opspreys nesting in the cypress stands may for an interesting day of teradactyles dive bombing the boat if we got too close. I should have taken a bunch of pics...Next time I suppose...

Not the best day but still better than work.....

As you can see one day was a chilly 60 degrees in FL and the other was pretty warm. During each trip we put over 20 bass in the boat. Nothing huge maybe 4 but it was fun. I am glad by buddy had a good time.

All was not great though....My buddy Gary hooked into a bass of about 11-13 pounds and lost it...He seems to do this a lot...I guess he is not used to florida fishing....

Date: 2/20/10
Location: Palm City
Temp: 76
Water Temp: 66
Sunny
Wind: Calm
Water Clarity: Stained

Headed out at around 9:30 am. I figured that I would take the kids and throw a few lines in the water. I also wanted to spend a little time adjusting the new Fishfinder/GPS combo I picked up as well as the new rod and reel.

I put the boat in the water and adjusted the brakes and tension on the new combo. I decided that I would throw something different this time out and all I can say is that the choice paid off. Two casts into the day and I was off to the races. I was running soft plastics on the first break off the shore 8-12 ft and they were getting blistered by the action. All in all I put 18 bass in the boat between 10:00 and 12:30. The kids put in another 3 a piece as well. Size ranges in the 2 to three pound range with the largest bass of the day at 7lbs 14 onces...You have to love florida winter fishing...

Keep the lines tight...

65 degrees water

Wind 15-20 out of the north

Water Clarity 2 feet

OK...We thought that Sunday was supposed to be warmer than what it was but were we wrong. I kinda wish I had dressed a little warmer. I was in shorts with a sweatshirt and I had to break out the Gortex. Anyway my neighbor and I headed out to a local canal on that we have had lots of luck in the past on. Then of course when we were lucky we were not battling a cold front. Nonetheless, we headed up the canal and started fishing some rip rap that I had marked on the GPS a couple of trips ago. Tony (pictured above) was the first to put on in the boat. He was fishing a 4 inch senko texas rigged. I on the other hand was fishing 5 inch senkos weight less. Tony managed to put two in the boat before I got my 1st. As you can see they were pretty small but not bad in the middle of a cold front. About 45 minutes later I finally broke through with a dink of my own...I decided to run about 6 miles down the canal and around the corner...bad call the wind was not shielded by the bank and was howling out there. Now I can say that id\f it was warm I would have fished it but seeing as we were pretty cold from the run we decided to head back around the corner. I saw a boat with two guys fly fishing for bass..I was able to see them pull one in but it was small as well. We drifted a ways to a cypress. I pitched my bait under the branches and let it sink and I was able to pull in my second and lat fish of the day. I was approx three pounds. We tried for more but the canal was just not giving them up. We made the treck back to the ramp and promptly turned on the heat in the truck...lol

Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is part drill instructor, and part stand up comic (Thunder Ranch is a firearms training facility in Oregon {was in Texas before}

Here are a few of his observation on tactics, firearms, self defense and life as we know it in the civilized world.
"The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win and cheat if necessary."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way.."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'.. If you're not loadin', you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in your back pocket.. If you light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or the tooth fairy... and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, unless you also shoot good.."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems.. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet but you may be able to save yourself and your family."
"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll have us or until someone makes us go away, and either way, it will be exciting."

More Excellent Gun Wisdom........

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.
4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'
6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'
8. Beware of the man who only has one gun, because he probably knows how to use it very well..

'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G.. K. Chesterton

A people that values its privileges above its principles will soon lose both.

"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.." - Thomas Jefferson
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." - Margaret Thatcher

Location--Unamed Pond St Lucie
Temp---76
Wind--- SW 15-20
Water Temp---64
Clarity ---2ft
Stained

Ok, After dealing with the freezing temps from the week prior (this was the reason I left the north east) I was itching to hit the water. I headed out to the local hole and found that the water is now completely stained due to construction. Because of this I changed my strategy. I opted to go with a texas rigged swim senko in a pumpkin color. I had issues fishing where I thought the fish would be because of the wind. But I was able to find a few calm spots away from the wind. I was pitching the bait in and along the weeds and catails. I would let it drop and twitch pause retreive it back to the boat. Although the fishing was a little slow I did put 5 in the boat. I forgot to bring my camera so I took a picture of one of the average fish with my phone. The biggest one of the day was a little over 5 pounds with averags fish coming in at about 2-3 pounds.....Not bad for January...
