This post is a little bittersweet.

Not the recipe. No, that's all sweet.

Today's the season finale of Doctor Who, which means I'll be switching up the series to once a month. No more Doctor Who Saturdays until June 22nd. *sniffle* As much as I love doing this weekly series (and having a legitimate excuse to go full-fangirl once a week), I can't keep this up until November. So, this week's been kind of boring. No real fun anecdotes to share with you. Although, I had a clogged ear that drove me nuts until the drops I was using finally...

That's not something you want to read on a food blog. Never mind.

So you might remember when I said the 11th Doctor was a bit of a foodie? Yeah, he saved the world using a cookie. This cookie. Well, actually, he ate the cookie he used, but it was this kind of cookie.

I remember watching The Victory of the Daleks, which was the 11th Doctor's first encounter with the hereditary enemy of the Time Lords (involving Winston Churchill. With Biscoff Marshmallow Filling

Umm, you guys. This recipe, it's kind of fancy. Like super fancy. Like you might find it in a super chic uptown bakery fancy. But, it's whoopie pies, which are rustic and imperfectly perfect. And they have whole wheat flour which makes them homey and satisfying.

It's like a paradox. It shouldn't exist. But it does, and it's good.

Paradoxes are tasty.

Umm, I know this is supposed to be Doctor Who Saturday, but, umm, it's Star Wars Day? You know, May the fourth be with you? And, umm, my like favorite cookies ever are from the Star Wars Cookbook? So, umm, I just, I couldn't do a Doctor Who post on Star Wars Day, because... because I just can't. It's not the right sci-fi franchise, and it would be really wrong and the universe might implode

Peach Tea Ice Cream

Can I just put something out in the universe? Anyone who leaves a container of 4 dozen sandwich cookies open all night should be put in the stocks. 4 dozen. That's 8 dozen individual cookies that someone spent an entire day baking, and then woke the very next morning to find every single one gone stale.

Also, I should probably be put in italics-users anonymous.

You know how there are moments when you're completely bereft of ideas? Your mind is just totally blank, no inspiration, nothing. And you start ransacking the kitchen hoping to find something, anything to light that little spark. Now, you guys know that yeast dough and I have had some troubles in the past. It's not that I don't love it-- if you'd ever seen me tear into a ciabatta roll or gnaw on the end of a fresh loaf of Italian bread like some kind of animal, you wouldn't doubt it-- but we've certainly had our fair share of fights. I'm going to be a little more serious for the moment. I want to talk to you about the reason why I love Doctor Who-- and other things like it-- enough to do this series.

Doctor Who and science fiction and fantasy, they're escapes. And a common theme with all of these stories is the ordinary person facing extraordinary circumstances and

Soft Vanilla Cookies

How do I begin to explain Captain Jack Harkness?

Captain Jack Harkness is flawless

I hear his coat is insured for $10,000.

I hear he does sonic screwdriver commercials... on Satellite 5.

His favorite person is Ianto Jones.

There are certain benefits to being a pantser like me. For one thing, it means most of the things I write or make or create are going to be original. It's like I'm giving myself a surprise, because I often don't know myself how these things are going to turn out. It's a new adventure every time. XD

My parentals went to Orlando a few weeks ago, and apparently they were thinking of me. They didn't know it when they originally booked the week, but they were there at the same time as Megacon. (My dad wanted to tease me by saying they met Wil Wheaton, but momma told him that would be cruel). Apparently they met a few Whovian cosplayers outside of the con, and my mom told them about my blog

Bowties Are Cool Blueberry Goat Cheese Pasta Salad

So, the insomnia monster hit me yesterday, and I was completely out of sorts. I kept forgetting 1) that it was already April, 2) that they'd moved the first session of Camp NaNoWriMo to April, 3) that I wanted to change up my updating schedule because of my Doctor Who series, and 4) that today was Tuesday, one of the days I had pegged for updating.

Don't be like that. I gave you plenty of hints. Yes, some of them were a little obscure, but you should have gotten it from the Cinnamon Sugar Mini Doughnuts post. So I finally finished watching Parade's End.

OMG. Sooooo good.

The book is totally on my to-read list now.

It's a costume drama, in a similar vein as Downton Abbey. Although less about the soap operatic details of everyone's lives and more about the last vestiges of the British upperclass trying to hold on to their ideals and traditions in the modern era.

And it shouldn't surprise you,

Spaghetti Squash with Browned Butter and Goat Cheese

I think people expect receptionists to have secret, exciting lives. I got back to work this week and people kept asking me if I did anything cool or went anywhere exciting.

The real answer of cooking food and chasing down the cat so he doesn't try to make friends with the contractors' power tools did not seem to satisfy them.

So I told it in a different manner. You guys, I think I need a vacation from my vacation.

I took this past week off of work to get stuff done that I haven't been able to since I feel like I'm always at work. And the bathroom was being renovated, so I wanted to make sure Needy McSnuggles was shut away with enough food and water.

It was also the perfect time to get some stuff together for your surprise coming up (March 30th is

Homemade Mayonnaise

So apparently, when I have free time, all of my knowledge of cooking and baking just flies out the window. It's like my brain took some time off, too. Everything that I have cooked or baked this week so far has been a fail. Not an epic fail, mind you-- it's all still been edible, and in some cases, quite tasty-- but just enough to rankle my inner perfectionist.

I forgot to give you guys your clue last post. Sorry dudes. I was just trying to bang out a post before work and I got caught up in the ranting.

...What? Of course I've been giving you clues. I promised didn't I? I just didn't make them obvious. You saw, but you did not observe.

I don't know about you guys, but I've been feeling the need lately for a good, hearty breakfast before work these days. A good, hearty breakfast that is also a cookie. Yeah, it's been that kind of week.

Firstly, I've been training a temp to take over reception duties while I'm off next week. Or I should say, trying to. I'll be training my third temp in 5 days today. The first one was great.

Fizzy Kiwi Lemonade

The job has been seriously trying to drive me crazy. Not just with floods, bounty hunters, and mystery pizzas. No, on Friday, the landlord was mucking about with the water without telling anyone what they were doing and screwed it up. There was no water on the fourth floor. Visitors would come up to me and ask if they could use they bathroom, and I had to tell them I wasn't exactly sure if
