Can future 2020/21 Skiing in Canada, in Quebec, at Tremblant, escape the kinds of Covid-19 interruptions that seem to have been occurring so far? We think yes.

It’s October, 2020, and all dedicated Tremblant Winter Alpine Snow Sports Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Ski/Snowboard season. We remain optimistic that despite Covid-19, the Ski season is possible. Obviously there is an element of public nervousness in any anticipations, as the whole planet is enduring the Covid-19 International health pandemic that both literally and figuratively is generating “Moving Targets” for all planers across the entire spectrum of Human endeavour. The experience of recent months shows that activity has had to be modified or curtailed in many ways that have been unexpected and unpredictable. From an 8 month observational standpoint since the beginning of last March, we have seen first waves, dips, second waves, hot spots, special red zones, breakouts and many other descriptive terms applied to the per-capita case rates that have necessitated alterations to many of the plans made by humans around the world.

Can future 2020/21 Skiing in Canada, in Quebec, at Tremblant, escape the kinds of interruptions that seem to have been occurring so far? We think yes, but under the very strict, serious, implementation and conduct of the Covid-19 protocols that are currently called for, and may be additionally necessary in future, by both the scientific and regulatory/governmental authorities.

The alarming part that everyone has seen in public behavioural examples over the summer months though, is that there are some members of the public who are not taking the preventative measures seriously. You can walk out your front door and see people engaged in high risk activity, you can survey social media, or turn on televised broadcast news and see almost endless disregard for science-based Covid-19 preventative measures that have caused significant increases in spread. Unfortunately as it may seem, humans can then only blame themselves for the reactionary, restrictive interventions in order to reduce those rates of spread.

One logical conclusion could then be argued to be that if everyone took the implementation of Covid-19 Protocols to the maximized and optimized degrees possible, many, many human activity plans could safely take place, including Ski Seasons. In that sense, our collective ability to move forward may be directly proportional to our collective ability to conform to sustained safe practice that neutralizes and reduces spread.

Certainly, there are going to be aspects of the new season that under current policy will probably not be similar to all previous history. The biggest potential difference may be the consequence of Global/International Travel Restrictions that prohibit “Non-Essential” travel between countries. In the most severe forms of travel restrictions, we’ve even seen “Stay at home” orders when authorities deem sufficient threat to public health. It is not yet clear whether or not any of those restrictions would be in place at either future dates, or between what regions or countries, but there is sufficient existing precedent(example: repetitive monthly extensions of Border closings or crossing restrictions), to suggest the possibilities we could be faced with are domestic only participations, at least to begin with.

More specifically related to the start-up permissions for this season, of all the Canadian East Coast Ski Resorts, we think Tremblant may be near the top of the group in terms of being suited to make the Covid-19 adaptations necessary to logistically support their regional Ski/Board community. There are loads of high speed detachable quad’s for controlling lift-serviced outdoor social distancing and the Gondola is perfect for “Family Bubble” groups, so if there end up being less International guests, the consequent reduction in overall density makes it seem doable? With a network of over 100 trails/82 Kilometres, covering 750 big, big acres of wide open spaces, even during normal times, there’s just so much square area you can often feel like you’re all by yourself, so in a Covid-19 context, in our opinion, social distancing will never be an issue on the trails at Tremblant.

No one has ever done this before. In virtually every form of customer/supplier exchange relationship, it is apparent that it takes patience, understanding and co-operation from all parties, from product and service providers to end users. If “Skiing” has any inherent advantages, those may prove to be the vast ratio of outdoor space to the number of participants, and the fact that Skiers are already used to wearing facial masks, for only two examples. These types of natural advantages may mean that Covid-19 accommodations are easier to facilitate within Ski Area domains.

Ultimately, a safe, effective vaccine may prove to be the answer or key to a long term solution for the recovery of the widest range of human endeavour, however there is much work yet to be done on that front that could take months according to the best science-based Covid-19 information sources available at this writing.

Referring largely to weather factors, we’ve written many times in our daily conditions reports: “Them That Adapts The Quickest, Has The Most Fun”… For different reasons, but just as critically important now, that may be directly applicable to attempting a Ski Season in the middle of a pandemic. What’s next? Time will tell, but for us, the annual fall preparations of filing edges, base cleaning/waxing and checking binding release function starts now.

In the mean-time, you can “visualize” Tremblant Ski Conditions archived here: Tremblant360 daily conditions journal

26.0096% Snowier Winters at Tremblant?

It Is A Fact…

5 out the last 6 winters at Tremblant have been an aggregate 26.0096% snowier than the 21 year average of the annual natural snowfall statistics recorded and publicly available at Tremblant.ca.(*)

(Please Note: 1) Annotations symbols added to text have legend/explanations attached below at page bottom. 2) Click on images for expanded views, use browser “Back” button to return to article.)

We have written about this snowy fact in an article in our “Tremblant Geographic” Forum section, entitled “A Tale Of Two(or more) Winters 2017, 2018”. In that article we analyze the winters of 2016/17 and 2017/18 as only two examples of these seemingly more common above average natural snowfall accumulations, based on 21 years of recorded snowfall stat’s.

We have a theory(%) that could be one possible explanation or understanding for this phenomenon and the following is an excerpt from that article.

———- Excerpt Begins ———————–

“Coincidence” or “Trend”?

Our “Trend” theory is that as Global Warming may be causing a
slight increase in average temps, this may actually be bringing
Tremblant up into Mother Natures own best natural snow making
temps at roughly -7C(+/- 3C), more frequently(+). Furthermore,
at regionally critical tipping points at or around the freezing mark,
Tremblant also seems to remain favourably on the lower temp
sub-zero range more frequently. We think this may be resulting in
a higher consistency of thermal-free days when compared to it’s
regional peers at slightly lower, more southerly latitudes.(#)

This is not the first time we’ve reported on these observations
or our theoretical attempt at understanding them. The fact remains
that the experience of the past 6 winters are snowfall measurements
that are a matter of record.

We think this could develop into a more statistically supportable
trend of snowier Tremblant winters, and that over time these
near or over 500cm”+” snowfall winters could become more
common?(^^) If that trend was to become the case, the benefits would
include far higher probabilities of the most desirable winter qualities
for pre-booked Alpine Snow Sport vacations and/or Seasons Pass
holders.

Examinations of our daily archives will show that there is optimized
quality virtually every single day the Mountain is open, regardless of
any seasons individual snowfall, or weather cycles. However, there is
no doubt that the added mechanical advantage of abundant natural
snow, especially if it becomes a statistical trend, facilitates an easy
elevation to levels of extraordinary quality.

Initial indications from preliminary Fall of 2018 long range winter weather
forecasts are also suggesting the Southern Quebec region of Eastern
North America may experience another season of above average snowfall.

———- End of excerpt —————-

Any and all chances that you could do more of this(see below Pic’s.), Across All Skill Levels from Beginners to Experts… for any longer potential timeframes and/or with higher probability of quality, quantity, i.e., genuine, real “Winter”, is a significant asset for reliable Ski Season visits or Ski/Snowboard holiday planning, and we respectfully submit that is a distinct advantage for choosing Tremblant.

(Top pic. below is Tremblant Versant Sud, South Side Black Diamond, “McCulloch”, second below is Versant Sud, South Side “Nansen”, a 6 kilometre Green Circle masterpiece of learning/cruising excellence dating back to 1939.)

We will be doing a full-on Fall 2018 Long Range Tremblant Ski Season Weather Forecast in the near future. You can scroll through/review our two previous seasonal Ski Season Forecasts in the “Tremblant Geographic” section of our T360 Forums and compare them to the actual history to see how close we’ve been. So far, we’re happy to report the evidence has shown our forecasts to be correct(**), and as mentioned above, there is already a growing consensus of Meteorological evidence supporting yet another above average snowfall winter is coming up at #Tremblant for this new season approaching.

Annotations: (*) and the sixth was only 8.173% below. (%) Even though there is substantial positive support evidence, theories have variable inherent risk of being proven wrong, so we accept that possibility. This is one reason we use the subtitle “Trend or Coincidence?” (+) Not nearly as much snow falls when it’s really cold, however, the benefit of the cold is to increase the depth of the frost level into the Mountain, which acts as an offsetting stored refrigerant when any normally occurring winter thaws happen. (#) For example, by recorded Meteorological Statistics, Killington Vermont now only has 1 month per year when the average daily temperature is below 32 degrees F., Zero degrees C, which is January. Tremblant has three sub-zero C months, December, January, and February. Our hypothesis is that there are significant benefits to consistent snow surface quality, stability, retention, ease of all skill level performance and seasonal durability, of 3 X more average sub-zero C, genuine winter days. Of course there may be individual exceptions/variations to any weather rules from season to season, or within seasons. However, snow does not stay snow without sustained temps below freezing, so within the 5 months that winter typically spans, sub-zero C will always remain as the primary permission for thermal-free surface quality.(^^) We had our research data run through an Augmented Dickey-Fuller Unit Root Test on SNOWFALL by a T360 fan who happens to be a University Professor that is a Peer Reviewed Research Author, published in multiple journals including “The Economist”, and the test conclusion was deemed “Statistically Significant”. Merci SC! (**)Caveat: Anyone who talks or reads about Weather Forecasting needs to acknowledge the future is subject to the whims of Mother Nature that are not always or completely predictable. This is another reason we use the subtitle “Trend or Coincidence?” It is also why we specifically state that regardless of any years snowfall total, large or not so large, Tremblant Mountain Crews are masters of optimization.

A Fall Ski Show is one of the best places to either develop or focus on a Short List or Specific Destination, and in an environment of un-matched Informational Quality.

As far as Ski/Board Holiday Planning goes, there are 2 principle reasons for attending Ski/Board Snow Shows:

Information on the Technical Merits of your Ski/Board Experience Options.

Information on the Holiday Accommodation Package Content and Pricing Options.

One of the very best ways to get the most Value for your Ski/Board Holiday with those considerations in mind is…

Go Directly To The Source.

There is no doubt todays Ski/Board Holiday Planners have a tremendous range of Informational Sources to help evaluate their options, but there are very few ways that these same Planners can immerse themselves in the concentrations of useful assistance that would come even close to the depth that exists at Ski/Board Snow Shows.

For that reason, we want to encourage everyone who is contemplating a Winter Ski/Board Travel Holiday to get to the nearest Fall Ski Show they can attend, if possible. A Fall Ski Show is one of the best places to either develop or focus on a Short List or Specific Destination, and in an environment of un-matched Informational Quality.

For the purposes of this article, we are assuming that Tremblant is either already your destination choice, or a primary destination on your Short List. Attending a Winter Ski/Board Show where Tremblant is an exhibitor is your chance to go directly to the source to answer any of the questions you have about making final decisions.

The strength of the Tremblant presentations are the staff in the booth who we know for a fact are some of the best Skiers on the Mountain, as well as the most informed about Lodging, Ski/Board Schools, Equipment Rentals, Dining, Entertainment, Apres Ski and Community Resources(to name only a few examples), because of their “Day Job” experience as Tremblant Resort Team Members.

A Scene from the Ottawa Ski and Snowboard Show from October 2016.

(click on any images in this post for full views.)

These are folks who work on the Mountain every day. What you will notice is the Pride and Authority that Tremblant Staff naturally project when it comes to addressing questions about the Tremblant Experience. This comes from the confidence in knowing that the whole Team has a reputation in the Global Ski Industry for delivering exceptional quality and value in both the Ski/Board Mountain experience and the Resort Accommodation experience.

Summary:

Going to the Source for accurate information is always useful, however when the “Source” comes close to you, as it does with Tremblant attending at Seasonal Winter Ski/Board Travel Shows, it’s a unique opportunity to gather high quality intelligence that should be a fundamental component of any Ski/Board Holiday Planning.

An added benefit is the “Show Special” Discount Booking Rates that are frequently available as an extra incentive to make what is already going to be a superlative Ski Holiday, an even better value.

Tremblant360.com is an Independent Fan Site that exports Tremblant Info. Internationally . Members of our team have been Skiing Tremblant since 1974. We loved it then, and through all the changes we can tell you for a fact that the Skiing Experience on this Mountain has only gotten better. We have Skied coast-to-coast in North America, and we are proud to call Tremblant our “Home Mountain” as our affinity towards it grows stronger. It is our opinion that the wisdom of the original Founder in 1938/39, who realized that Tremblant possessed Terrain of Superior Technical Merit was absolutely correct, and that in this modern era, the essence of that character has been Optimized, Refined and Expanded to vastly increase both the Scope and the Quality for all Skill Levels. Together with the Award Winning Resort Village Development, Tremblant has become an acknowledged World Class Destination.

Any summer you can visit Tremblant is going to to reward you with the unique combinations of the wide ranging activities you can enjoy within the outstanding natural settings and easy, pleasant weather of the Laurentian peaks.

We originally wrote this as a Forum Post for a Summer past, but after much thought it seems entirely appropriate to add it to the Blog content because in truth, the title applies to every Summer. There is no such thing as Summer at Tremblant that is not “An Average, Excellent, Beautiful, Normal Tremblant Summer”.

The array of activity at Tremblant over the course of a Summer is easy to find by scanning all the various Website’s beginning with Tremblant.ca and all the Tourism related Tremblant links. Everything from Golf to Ironman, Zip Lines to Water Skiing, Hiking to Biking, the list goes on and on.

The common element in all the references though, is the magnificent backdrop of Tremblant’s absolutely gorgeous Geophysical domain which is worthy of consideration for a visit on it’s own merit, regardless of whatever Human endeavours may be ongoing at any given time.

For those Tremblant Guests who have a primarily “Winter” Skiing/Snowboarding frame of visit reference, we can tell you for a fact that you can still “Ski” or “Board” at Tremblant in the summer, however… you will have to modify the description of those activities to include the use of the words “Water” and/or “Wake”, and you will have to get used to a different form of “Tow”!

Geologically Speaking…

Tremblant is a Precambrian geographical feature. Over 4 Billion years of Mother Natures effects, that you can walk on, look over, examine, observe and partake of on an immersive basis. This is the heart of what is arguably the oldest rock on the face of Earth. We think the best way to observe this domain is from the summit.

There are easy ways to get to the top…

There are some Not-So-Easy ways to the top…

We happen to like the Not-So-Easy way up, and if that’s the way you choose to go, we recommend you take a quick peek at the Blog we wrote about Hiking at Tremblant. There are definitely choices you can make that will make any accent on foot a lot more user friendly and we elaborate on those specifically for their practical benefits.

No matter how you get to the summit, If you can handle the short additional vertical to the Observation Deck, not only do you have the best vantage over the South and Westerly quadrants as seen above, but you can see back over to the Grand Manitou Lodge, the Ski Patrol Summit HQ, the Comm. Tower and other North and Easterly directions, as seen below.

A short trek over to the Ski Patrol Summit HQ and you can walk to its back-side
observation area for an overview of Versant Nord, the North Side.

With your feet back on the ground at base level you may want to take advantage of some of those almost endless opportunities to sample your favourite pastimes. Tremblant is where Terra Firma Resort Level has more conventional options, but even those take on new perspectives with the backdrop of the Mountain.

By nothing other than allowing yourself to be receptive to underlaying rhythms of earth, wind, water and sky that support the pulse of life from the simplest forms of lichens and mosses to the social behaviours of the deer and the birds, you can begin to appreciate the closeness that Tremblant visitors can get to the real spirit of nature here.

The natural world of Tremblant is an endlessly fascinating place to be because in essence, it represents the connective thread of our planet from virtually the point of solid formations of solid bedrock to where it is now, and from the perspective of all the geological history, everything in between.

Any summer you can visit Tremblant is going to to reward you with the unique combinations of the wide ranging activities you can enjoy within the outstanding natural settings and easy, pleasant weather of the Laurentian peaks.

You’re Bound To Run Into Beauty At Every Turn…

While there are those whose seasonal preferences are for Tremblant’s Winter Alpine Skiing, there’s no doubt that in the course of an average, excellent, beautiful, gorgeous, normal Tremblant summer, and within the extensive access available… the uncovered nature of Nature is easy to see for those who are open and willing to take it all in.

It’s Just Another Average, Gorgeous, Beautiful, Excellent, Normal Summer at Tremblant!

After 18 Years of consistently earning Number 1 in Ski Magazines Eastern North American Resort category, Tremblant has certainly achieved the age of maturity within its regional peers with a winning combination of Great Skiing and a World Class Resort Village.

Ski Magazine Fall 2015, Top 50 Ski Resorts, Tremblant, Number 1 Eastern North America, 18th Time!

After 18 Years of consistently earning Number 1 in Ski Magazines Eastern North American Resort category, Tremblant has certainly achieved the age of maturity within its regional peers with a winning combination of Great Skiing and a World Class Resort Village.

For those of us who prefer Tremblant over all other regional Ski/Board areas, the results of this seasons Ski Magazine Reader Survey come as no surprise, however, it’s never an outcome taken for granted. The efforts put forth by every significant Ski Resort good enough to make it to this survey issue of Ski Magazine, make them all very fine in one way or another. The Tremblant difference continues to be the way it connects with its guests on so many levels, and that is why it comes to the top in overall appreciation season after season.

There is no doubt that the Resort Village at Tremblant sets the bar so high for accommodation, food and ambiance standards, that no other Ski Resort on the East Coast of North America seems likely to be able to match it for who knows how long, However… the way the article leads off with “The Skiing Is Really Great”, is where Tremblant360 wants to focus, because we firmly believe that it is indeed the “Really Great Skiing” at Tremblant that is at the core of it’s appeal to us and all other Fanatic, Technical Skiers. When such fine Skiing across all Skill Levels from Beginners to Experts is referenced within the framework of the Resorts Idyllic backdrop, the combination is overwhelmingly impressive.

Tremblant360 is very proud of any part we can play to emphasize the quality of the Pure Alpine Snow Sport trail network at Tremblant as the fundamental essence of any Ski/Board Holiday, but we fully understand that no matter how many days you are a guest here, out of a 24 hour day, on average, about 18 of those hours are spent off the slopes, so it’s no wonder the Resort Village creates such a huge, positive impression.

Once you are out on Tremblant’s open Alpine Ski/Board Terrain, you immediately need to go into “Explore” mode in order to discover the depth and range of each Skill Levels rated acreage within the traditional Green, Blue and Black challenge scales. What you will come to realize is that the scope of your explorations could keep you entertained and challenged for every minute of every vertical foot you cover for your entire time here. We know that for a fact because after decades of dedicated Tremblant explorations, we’re still finding thrills in new sweet spots and descent path combinations each and every season. Of course… a principle reason for that is the unique “fingerprint” that Mother Nature generates with each seasons distinct winter weather patterns. The magic at Tremblant however, is the ability of the “Mountain Operations Group” who are masters of their trades(some are third generation, since 1938), who have been key in the design, cutting, maintaining, refining, and daily presentation of trails with absolutely optimal snow surfaces possible.

So, come, visit and enjoy the Resort Village for all its wonderful attributes, but just remember, we agree with Ski Magazine…. “The Skiing Is Really Great!!!”

If you’d like to know more about “The Skiing Is Really Great”… take a look at the Tremblant360 Archive of sequentially date indexed, daily Mountain Conditions Reports. You can use it to review typical conditions over multiple years/seasons, for any Ski/Board Holiday time slot that works for you. GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: (Copy and Paste this link in your browser): http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu …or, goto the Tremblant360 Homepage here and click on the “Mountain Conditions” feature, page right, just below tool bar.

No Doubt, Summer’s Become A Very Popular Season At #Tremblant... and the best way to begin your visit planning is by thoroughly examining the Tremblant.ca PDF, Summer “Things To Do” Guide!

<img class="size-large wp-image-2634" alt="www.tremblant360.com photo. All rights reserved.

There’s no doubt that Summer at Tremblant has developed into a very popular season. One trip around the Region, one trip around the Resort during any of the major events such as Ironman Competitions or the Blues Festival will provide ample enough evidence in the outright attendance numbers, as crowds flock to be part of all the action. While these specialized events with their focus on the particular interests featured will always draw those that share those interests, we want to highlight Tremblant as a summer destination for all those folks who may not have any singular purpose other than to relax and enjoy true leisure time without a scripted schedule and are perfectly content to “Go with the flow”, “Take it as it comes”, or “Spur of the moment”, a la carte plan.

The rich diversity of activities that can be accessed every single day of the Summer Season, besides all the specialty events, makes Tremblant an excellent candidate for a travel destination because the level of involvement you may be content with, can be matched to virtually any level of exertion or relaxation, or both!

The best way to begin your planning is by thoroughly examining the Tremblant.ca PDF, Summer “Things To Do” Guide(link provided below). This 92 page comprehensive information document can be instrumental in tailoring both time and budget to meet your needs, whether it’s just knowing where all the pools are for cooling off all day, or spending entire days physically active in the pursuit of new levels of personal fitness and healthy well-being.

(Please Note: A: while we are looking specifically at the 2015 Summer season here, this guide has been published for many years, so the positive referral we make to it is applicable for not only this season, but any future seasons this format continues to be available.)

(Please Note: B: Click on any image in this post for full screen view, then use your Browser’s “Back” arrow button to return to this page.)

This vey fine downloadable document is organized by colour coded pages into categories relating to features and services and includes current pricing where applicable. It should be noted that there are many things to do that are free, hiking on the Mountain is an excellent example, so you do not have to “Break The Bank” to enjoy extremely vigorous activity.

We are including some sample excerpts here to illustrate some of the content layout, however you will need to scan all the downloadable pages to be fully informed.

Shop Tremblant For Sport Specific Gear.

Of course, if you’re planning a Sport-Specific Holiday at Tremblant, it may be the perfect time to upgrade elements of your equipment. Shopping at Tremblant is a great way to take advantage of the knowledge staff have here. Tremblant people are passionate about their sports and because they enthusiastically participate in virtually every activity available, we have found that translates to experience with gear that actually works, which consequently makes it high value. It is a Myth that shopping at Tremblant is always expensive too. For sure, there is a range of goods available which means you can buy high end if you choose, however we have found that discounts are frequently offered, and over the seasons we have been often surprised to find items at prices that can be fractional of the “Yourtown” Mass-Marketing “Big-Box Store Co.”

As is the case with all good reference sources, the Guide is fully indexed in the closing pages so you can effectively find exactly what you’re looking for.

In some Seasons past, if our memories are correct, the Feature/link to the download has been located on the Tremblant.ca homepage, however this Season, based on our experience, it requires three page click-through’s, so it’s not quite as quick to find, so we are including 2 forms of links here for your convenience.

Here are 2 Links(copy and paste to your Browser) to the Downloadable PDF file:

The Guide is also available as a printed brochure and is widely distributed throughout the resort and surrounding Regional Tourism Information Outlets.

If you look through our archives in the Summer Section of the Tremblant360 Forums, you will see we have been promoting the use of the Summer “Things To Do Guide” for many years. There is no better place to start evaluating your Tremblant Resort visit options, and it’s all in one, handy, very well organized format.

We think that the Winter Alpine Ski/Board Season at Tremblant is set to make a Historical “First” for all records since 1939.

We think that the Winter Alpine Ski/Board Season at Tremblant is set to make a Historical “First” for all records since 1939/1948(**).

That “First” would be the simultaneous opening from Summit to Base on both the South, Versant Sud, Resort Base side, as well as the North Side, Versant Nord. If we understand the Tremblant.ca Blog entry correctly(*), this historic event is compensation due to the accidental fire and consequent temporary loss of use of the South Side Mid-Level “TGV” detachable high speed quad chair.((*)Quotation from Tremblant.ca Blog 10.30.14 “To provide such a ski area the snow making plan will be adapted, making the Duncan Express lift operational right from the opening of the season.”) So, to the great, good fortune of early season Tremblant Ski/Board enthusiasts, this remarkable access to Versant Nord, the North Side, Summit to Base for the First Time on Opening Day is a bold and very worthy substitute.

There is no doubt that the heavy Snowmaking artillery has been deployed at the North Base and has every appearance of being “Fired Up” to level 10/Max! (all the pic’s in this post are clickable for expanded views. Use your browsers “back” button to return)

Night Shot, Expo Quad Base Loading Zone, Snowmaking. Web Cam Snap Shots Courtesy of Tremblant.ca

From what we know over some 40 odd seasons of Tremblant experience within the Tremblant360 Team, plus all that we’ve read, studied or heard of since the Resort opened, (**)Summit to Base operations on the North have never occurred before on Season’s Opening Day in the 66 some-odd year history of the North Side’s Opening in 1948. Of course, we stand to be corrected, we even dare to be corrected, but certainly in the modern Intrawest Era of the Resorts history, nor in our personal experience prior to that, can we recall any previous Seasons Opening that has offered Open Base Operation on both principle South and North sides.

We took the lead photo in this article at mid-Beauvallon(full size version above), while hiking the Mountain on November 3rd, so snowmaking has now been actively under way for two weeks. There has been one or two thermal hick-ups from Mother Nature, but since the ground itself has been largely frozen solid from the Summit all the way down to within a couple of hundred vertical feet of the Base levels since November 1st, retention has been very good and Mountain Crews have enjoyed Natures support on snowmaking temperatures since then, and more recently, natural snowfall as well.

To be sure, it’s only the middle of November, so no one expects full winter coverages, however by comparison to the memories and records of previous opening days, it seems very likely that this one will eclipse those of the past by quite a bit. We are not privy to the list of trails that may be –open for Day 1, so we need to say right up front here that even educated guessing is speculation only.

———————————————————————————-

Editors Late Night 11.19.14 Insert Note:

This Blog was written 11.18.14, prior to preliminary Official Snow Report data showing 13 Open Trails.

We will have a Seasons Preview in our regular Mountain Conditions… Look for that starting 11.20.14

————————————————————————————

For starters though, the acreage apparently under snowmaking, represented by South Side Beauvallon and North Side Beauchemin, added together would be greater than many smaller regional Ski Hills have in their total inventory! On top of that, it is very likely that P’tit Bonheur, in its usual state of Opening Day Excellence will be there either as the main decent path from the Summit to the lower Lowell Thomas mid point of Beauchemin, or as additional Open terrain. The Park Terrain may also be located at the Lowell Thomas base zone, as it has been before, but that is just a guess. Any other runs would be bonus icing on the cake and with the below normal day and night temps that have been around for a few days now, it is possible that there may be some additional like other Lowell Thomas sector trails.

Attached here is a composite Versant Nord, North Side Base Level, Web Cam Panoramic(Web Cam Snap Shots Courtesy of Tremblant.ca). What you see that’s important is not only the Snowmaking that is going on at full blast coming off of Beauchemin Bas, Lower, but the abundance of natural snow that can be observed as far as the eye, or camera, can see extending up Expo. The combination of cool sub-zero temps and natural snow is just about ideal for reaching the targeted Opening Day, this Friday, November 21, 2014.

A quick run through the Tremblant360 Daily Mountain Conditions Archives(Link provided below), will show that the typical Versant Nord Base Level opening is usually right around the end of the first week in December, give or take, and is often coordinated with the Tremblant.ca 24 Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser Event, so with this fabulous early start, we’re basically a little over two weeks ahead of the normal open terrain development right from the beginning!

What might this early and highly productive Snowmaking mean for the up-coming season?

Long Term: Every early day of better than average winter type conditions allows Mountain Crews to gain a tangible advantage in square surface coverage and base depth. The truth is of course, temps are not yet end-of-January, it’s November and there will be the odd up/down fluctuation, but that’s exactly where the advantage pays back because the more square surface coverage there is, the more base depth there is, the more resilient the Open Terrain is to Mother Natures little thermal episodes.

Short Term: you are going to be able to go to Tremblant THIS FRIDAY MORNING… and you should be able to find a big bunch of this:

We don’t have any crystal ball guarantee’s it’ll be sunny, although current Weather models are forecasting “Sunny Breaks” for Friday, but regardless, the Skiing and Boarding are going to be great no matter what, so…

Merci Tremblant Mountain Crews for all this fabulous work! This is a huge logistical undertaking and we are absolutely thrilled to be able to have such a unique, and historical privilege. We have smiles a mile wide, just thinking about all the variety that this Opening day will have and we want to encourage all loyal Tremblant Fans to make every effort possible to not only get out and support this commitment by Mountain Management and Crews, but to be part of the history themselves.
