ACLU goes after Sheriff Joe over prisoner abortion

Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has had a motion filed against him by the ACLU. They have sand in their collective vaginae over the fact that Sherrif Joe made a female prisoner pay for transportation so she could have an abortion.

If you’re not familiar with Joe Arpaio he runs one of the tightest jails in the country. If you commit a crime the last place you want to find yourself is Sheriff Joe’s jail. You can read about some of his policies here. As far as I’m concerned his jail is how prisons should be run.

Anyway I’m 100% behind Sheriff Joe on this. Why should the county taxpayers foot the bill for someone that’s a criminal to receive an abortion. They’re probably footing the bill for the abortion too. Sarah Poe as she’s being referred to should have thought of that before committing her crime, or opening her legs for that matter.

For one they don’t say who they are collecting on behalf of. Secondly they never mentioned me by name fake or otherwise. It was not addressed to my actual e-mail address that I use in real life. And of course the address is phony.

I like how they put the information obtained will be used for solely collecting a debt. Somehow I doubt that.

I was a big fan of Sarah Palin during the election. Now not so much. She lost points with me during the Letterman debacle. I mean if she can’t tell who that joke was obviously aimed at then she needs to get a clue.

If the Republican party has any hopes of winning in 2012 they need to find another Reagan.

Freedom for some…

You know, I’ve been trying to stay away from politics because anymore there is no real political discourse anymore. It’s usually just one side yelling at the other for whatever reason.

However when you read about what’s going on in Iran you can’t help to wax political. However my post isn’t about Iran per se but more about the Western world.

First let me preface this by saying that I hope the people of Iran do gain their freedom. I know somebody will misconstrue my post somehow as support for the current regime in Iran.

Next I want to address all the people who are changing their Twitter icons to green to show support for the Iranians. That’s great, whatever floats your goat. However don’t get down on somebody who hasn’t, like me. I know you’re trying to bring awareness to the plight of Iraninans but to me it’s like the ribbon craze of the 90’s when everybody felt it was necessary to wear a colored ribbon for whatever cause. I didn’t need to wear a red ribbon then to show that I was concerned about AIDS. Conversely I don’t need a green Twitter icon to show I’m supporting the Iranian people. Not to mention the so called awareness factor. You’d have to be living under the proverbial rock to not know what was going on in Iran right now. If there are people that are that ignorant then they can’t be of any help anyway.

Now on to my main point. I would lay odds that the majority of you who are supporting the Iranians could have not given a rat’s ass about the freedom of the Iraqi people back in 2003. Forget why you think the war in Iraq was started. I don’t care if you think it was about oil or not the fact remains that the people of Iraq no longer live under a dictator who made Mahmoud Ahmadinejad look like Abraham Lincoln. I already know what you’re thinking though. You’re thinking that while the Iranians are trying to gain their freedom from within we ‘interfered’ with the ’sovereign’ government of Iraq. To that I say we would have waited a long time before an internal revolution would have happened in Iraq. While Iran may not be as free as say the U.S. or Canada they obviously have a lot more freedom than the Iraqis did prior to the toppling of Saddam Hussein.

I know what else you’re thinking too. You’re thinking that this all started in Iran because of a fixed election. Then I guess you don’t remember the countless elections that Saddam Hussein won with 100% of the vote. Where were you then?

You’re either for freedom for all or you’re not.

Trench pontificates on prostitution

You know, I used to not care about prostitution. I used to not care less if prostitution was legalized or not. However in the past 3 years that I’ve been researching prostitution as it relates to craigslist and other online venues I’ve come to the conclusion that legalizing prostitution is not the be all and end all to solving all the problems that come with prostitution.

For example let’s take two places where prostitution is legal.

First off let’s go to Nevada. Brothels are legal in most parts of Nevada. Where it’s not legal is Las Vegas. That doesn’t stop women from walking the streets in Vegas. Some of the regulations are so stringent on the girls working in the brothels that a lot of them think that it’s easier to work the streets in Vegas than it is to work the brothels in the outlying counties.

Now let’s go overseas to the infamous red light district of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Not only does Amsterdam have the same problem as Vegas with girls operating outside of legal prostitution zones but they also have a large problem in human trafficking. Not to mention the organized crime organizations that run the human trafficking rings.

Most importantly legalizing prostitution would do nothing to stop child prostitution. That should always be illegal and unfortunately the demand will always be there as evidenced by the so called child sex tours that happen overseas in places like Thailand.

Drugs are another crime that goes hand in hand with prostitution. Either the girls are using which in some cases is why they turned to prostitution or in a lot of cases the john is using. Legalizing prostitution would do nothing to curb illegal drug activity that goes along with it. Let’s take strip clubs for example. They’re perfectly legal and the closest thing you can get to prostitution without it being prostitution. How many employees of your local strip club are either users or dealers? A lot more than you might think. And not just weed either, in my personal experience I’ve found that a lot of them either use coke, speed or meth.

The typical argument for the legalization of prostitution is to regulate it and tax it. While that may work in a perfect world the reality is that it would be a bureaucratic nightmare for all parties involved. While the government may collect taxes from legalized prostitution they would also probably be taking a chunk from the taxpayers as well to fund the services required to regulate it. Not to mention the taxes needed to keep illegal prostitution off the streets. History also shows us that government organizations that are supposed to regulate a certain occupation or activity are not always the best staffed or funded operations. Take children protection agencies for example. How many stories do we hear that CPS or Social Services visited a residence right before a child died from abuse or neglect? Too many. So in my opinion a government organization designed to regulate prostitution would be equally if not more disastrous allowing others to take advantage of the prostitutes in the ways they’re already being taken advantage of.

Lastly the most common argument I hear for the legalization of prostitution is that it’s a victimless crime between two consenting adults. Let’s take child prostitution out of the equation for a second. I find the definition of consent to be loosely interpreted in these situations. Between supporting drug habits and coercion under the treats of violence among other mitigating factors I think consent when it comes to prostitution is a relative term.

Stick figure stickers

Do you know those stick figure stickers that people put in the back windows of whatever suburban monstrosity they use to haul their brood around in? I can’t stand those things. I don’t care how many crotch fruit you have.

Here’s what I’d like to do with those stickers. I’d like to get a handful of the children ones and put them on the front driver’s side door. Then I would paint red Xs over each of them. Every so often adding one more sticker with one more red X.

That should get me some looks.

Webster School wants to change name to Obama:

A St. Paul elementary school has voted to officially change its name to “Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary,” pending approval of the school board.

The name is meant to honor the Obamas’ commitment to service learning.

Again I have to say while I think President Obama is doing a decent job so far he’s only been president for a little over 3 months. He still hasn’t done anything yet. And since when do first ladies get stuff named after then that’s not a rehab center? No offense to the first lady but she hasn’t done anything yet either.

And what the hell kind of name is “Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary”? Hell. if you wanted to call it Barack Obama Elementary I might have less of a problem with it.

The Devil You Know by Heaven and Hell

If Black Sabbath had written Stairway to Heaven it would be Bible Black.

This song is an instant classic that should be in the pantheon of Dio-Era Sabbath songs like the song Heaven and Hell. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn’t rock as hard. Oh it rocks all right and it’s a great album. It’s just not as good as other Dio Sabbath albums. Yes I think Dehumanizer is a better album. But it’s still the Dio fronted Black Sabbath so it’s automatically awesome.

Highly Recommended.
