In the current pandemic situation, there is one thing that we all are looking for that is the treatment for covid-19 infection and according to the latest update, the drugs controller general of India that is the DCGI has granted permission for the emergency use of the drug 2 deoxy d-glucose.

So let us understand about this anti-cover 19 therapeutic application of the drug 2-dioxide glucose.

The question that arises here is who developed this drug-

This drug was developed in partnership with Dr Reddy's laboratory in Hyderabad by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Research, a DRDO lab.

This drug is to be used as a supplemental therapy in moderate to severe covid-19 patients, this drug is not to be used in mild cases of covid-19 infection.

What is 2-DG (2 deoxy D glucose)?

So basically, it can be easily produced and made available in abundance, the molecular formula of 2-d oxide glucose encompasses two hydroxyl the group replaced by hydrogen so that it cannot undergo further glycolysis.

History of 2 deoxy D glucose by DRDO

DCGI has authorised the use of a new drug developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to handle Covid-19 in an emergency situation.

The DRDO has taken the initiative of creating this amazing anti- covid therapeutic application of 2 deoxy D glucose.

In April 2020, DRDO scientists and Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) found that this molecule works effectively against Covid.

Based on their work, the CDSCO permitted Phase-II clinical trials of 2-DG in Covid-19 patients in May 2020.

Reports say that in Phase-II trials between May and October 2020, the drug was found to be safe in Covid-19 patients.

The treatment has reflected a significant improvement in the patients' recovery time.

In the phase-II trial, they have conducted a trial on 110 patients.

In Phase II-A: Trial was conducted in 6 hospitals.
In the Phase II-B: (dose-ranging) clinical trial was conducted at 11 hospitals across the country successfully

Reportedly, in efficacy trends, the patients treated with 2-DG (2 deoxy D glucose) showed faster symptomatic cure than Standard of Care (SoC) on dynamic parameters and various endpoints and noticeably significant and favourable the trend were measured by the median time.

This is to achieve normalization of particular vital science parameters when compared to standard of care and based on the successful results the DCGI further permitted.

Based on these results the DCGI permitted phase III clinical trials in November 2020.

In phase III clinical trials, between December 2020 and March 2021- they have conducted a trial on 220 patients.

According to phase III results, a higher proportion of patients recovered symptomatically and were no longer dependent on supplemental oxygen.

As per the basic principle of this drug, it will be very effective on different variants of the SARS-CoV2- Virus.

With the help of our industry partner Dr Reddy's Lab, we are trying our best to bring this drug into the market at the earliest.

Availability and Usage of 2 deoxy D glucose

On May 17, 2021, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) launched an anti-coronavirus medicine, with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh releasing around 10,000 dosages to hospitals in the national capital.

The 2 DG drug (2 deoxy D glucose) should be taken orally, mixed with water, twice a day. Patients with COVID-19 may need to take this medicine for 5-7 days to effectively reduce viral growth.

The pricing of the 2 DG medicine, which is being co-manufactured by Dr Reddy's Laboratories, has yet to be decided. However, the price will be kept as low as possible.

2-DG is a powder that comes in a sachet and is taken orally by dissolving it in water. The anti-viral drug builds up in infected cells and prevents the infection from spreading.

This drug which is 2 DG-glucose is a generic molecule and analogue of glucose that is readily developed and made available in plenty.

In RT-PCR tests, a higher proportion of patients infected with the drug tested negative for Covid.

Currently, Dr Reddy's is producing the drug in India.

About National educational policy

After 34 years, the country is set to adopt a new National Education Policy (NEP). The proposed reform of the new National Education Policy (NEP) will replace the existing National Policy on Education.

The government has declared the Latest Education Policy 2020 to replace the current three-decade-old strategy. Many have accepted this strategy.

This is going to change millions of lives. The purpose is to make "India a Global Knowledge Superpower".

It's also known as the NEP. The program was introduced at 4 P.M. on Wednesday, 29 July 2020. This applies to schools, colleges, and higher learning.

The National Education Policy aims to build a globally viable education system based on the Indian ethos.

The major shift is from being academic to academic, plus vocational.

A transformative shift from the decades-old education system to enabling students to become engaged, productive and contributing citizens in building a fair, inclusive and plural society.

No bags: The government is seeking to bring local art to the students for whom they have placed in place internship programs for students to go and study local art, a craft derived from the artesian.

10+2 school systems have been replaced by 5+3+3+4 systems, including twelve years of schooling and three years of Anganwadi and pre-schooling.

The new academic session will begin in September- October; the delay is due to the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus disease (Covid-19)-and the government intends to enact the policy before the new session starts.

The new education system (5+3+3+4 system)

1. Foundation Stage (5):

Activity/play- based learning

Age: 3-8 years

3 to 6 of age: Preschool or Anganwadi

7-8 of age: 1st and 2nd Standard

This stage consists of learning based on play/activity. These will also concentrate on good behavior, personal and public hygiene/cleanness, teamwork, and communication learning activities.

2. Preparatory Stage (3):

Play, Interactive, activity-based classroom learning

Age: 8-11 years i.e. 3rd to 5th standard

The Preparatory Stage will gradually move from play-based learning to more formal yet engaging classroom learning, with the addition of some new subjects.

Preparatory class for children will be introduced with a trained ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) teacher.

The key emphasis here is on educating students in their mother tongues and on the holistic development of the child so that the child can learn from practical knowledge.

Emphasis will be given to subjects such as reading, writing, speaking, physical education, art, language, science, and mathematics.

3. Middle Stage (3):

Experiential learning in various disciplines

Age: 11-14 years i.e. 6th to 8th standard

The expanding the scope of learning and more abstract concepts in subjects such as science, mathematics, arts, social sciences and humanities will be introduced.

4. Secondary Stage (4):

Multidisciplinary study, critical thinking, choice of subject, and flexibility.

Age: 14-18 years

There are two sub-stages to this stage:

9th to 10th standard

11th to 12th standard

This stage will consist of four years of multidisciplinary study, with greater depth, more critical thinking, more attention to life aspirations, and more flexibility and choice for students.

The higher education

The High School Stage also allows for more subjects to be discussed and allows for greater independence.

Internationalization of education will be facilitated through both institutional collaborations and student and faculty mobility, and the entry of world-leading universities into India 's open campuses.

Undergraduate degrees will be either 3 or 4 years in duration with multiple exit options over this period.

After completing 1 year in the discipline or field, including vocational and professional fields, a diploma after 2 years of study or a Bachelor's degree after a 3-year program, the College will be mandated to issue a certificate.

The Academic Credit Bank shall be established for the digital storage of academic credits earned from different HEIs so that they can be transferred and counted towards the final degree earned.

There will be no strict division between the arts and sciences, between curricular and extra-curricular activities, between vocational and academic streams, under NEP 2020.

Important highlights of NEP 2020:

The announcement of 6 % of GDP's public spending in the education sector would provide a much-needed boost to the country's standard and reach of education.

The students must take school exams in grades 3, 5, and 8 that will be administered by the local authority.

The Board exams for Grades 10 and 12 will continue but will be revamped as the target of holistic growth.

Board examinations will also be split into objective and concise sections to assess the student's expertise in the subject matter.

In short, mugging up an answer will not get marks any longer in boards.

Assess to meet a minimum facilities level and study materials such as school buildings, classrooms, a science lab, musical equipment, sports products, etc.

As a standard-setting body, a new National Assessment Centre, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), will be created.

Zoom and google meet, it's difficult to say which is better, so let's understand what is the constraint that differentiates both the application.

When it comes to video calling nowadays Zoom has become the most popular option out there.

But now that Google has announced that Google Meet is available for free, I think it's time to dive in and see how it compares to Zoom and which one of these video calling services you may want to use.

Now Google has been doing video calling for as long as Zoom has. Both had their initial products launch in 2013,

however, Zoom has historically been focused on business conferencing for education and businesses, competing with other vendors like Cisco's WebEx and Blue jeans. Google's first video called the product was Hangouts and that was mainly focused on the consumer market to compete with Skype.

Over the years Google has debuted additional communication products like Google Duo and then finally Google Meet in 2017 which targeted Google's G Suite enterprise clients

Fast-forward to just a few months ago and it seems like Zoom took over the world in a matter of days when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

Why did that happen you may ask?

Well out of all of the video calling services out there, Zoom's is by far the easiest to use when trying to get into a meeting you just download an app put in a code and you're in the meeting.

Major difference between both the Application-

Another huge difference between these two platforms is that with Google Meet you have to have a Google account and with the zoom, you do not have to have a Zoom account to join a meeting, you just download an app put in a code and you're in the meeting.

Now while zoom does have an app for the computer you can use Zoom just in a browser as well though quite a few features are missing from the web client like gallery view recording a meeting scheduling.

A one-time or recurring meeting pulls live-streaming share and annotate a whiteboard and all chat contact and setting menu toggles.

Google meet works in any modern browser on a computer like Chrome, Firefox, Edge and safari there's no app to download format on computers and it's well-integrated now with Gmail as well as Google Calendar.

When you create an invite on Google Calendar it just takes you one click to add a Google Meet invite link.

So that's a little bit about the big differences between these two platforms.

User Experience & User Interface-

Now let's take a look at the user experience and user interface of Google Meet and Zoom and how they compare.

When you go to meet google.com you see a pretty simple screen you can immediately start meeting or enter a meeting code to join an existing meeting.

Those are like enabling a waiting room where people who want to join your meeting will wait until you approve them to enter the meeting.

You can also toggle on and off whether or not you want to allow your participants to be able to share their screen chat rename themselves or unmute themselves.

There are buttons to see the participants open up the chat and know that you can send individual chat messages to specific in a Zoom call as well as send messages out to the entire group on the call which is pretty cool.

Here we also have a button to record the meeting as well as add reactions you can change the meeting view up at the top right-hand corner when you have multiple participants in your meeting with gallery view being the most popular and the view that makes Zoom look like Zoom.

About Google Meet-

Let's take a look at Google Meet when you click to start a meeting it brings you to a holding screen where you can double-check that your hair is good and then decide whether or not you want to keep your camera and mic on before you enter the meeting.

When you click into the meeting, you'll see that fewer options are presented to you than in Zoom the bottom left-hand corner shows you the meeting details which you can expand Center on the bottom bar or the buttons to turn on and off your mic and camera as well as end the call.

Here you can also click the people icon in the top right-hand corner to see all of the participants in the meeting and you can also access the chat in this area of the UI as well.

You can send messages and links to all participants of your call but do note you cannot send messages to individual call participants.

In the right corner of the bottom bar you'll see a captions button when you enable this Google will automatically do a live translation of whatever is said in the meeting which is something that Zoom currently cannot do.

Though they do have a closed caption feature where somebody can type in closed captions for something like a webinar.

Next feature is present now, it will allow you to share your current screen and if you're on a Mac when you do this you'll need to click on the smaller version of your screen in the window that pops up and then click share for your screen to be shared.

Google does have a gallery view now that rival Zoom's that you can change to when you have multiple people on the call to change the view click on the three dots in the bottom bar and hit change the layout.

When a certain number of people join the call the three dots menu also links to settings where you can change your audio and visual settings for google meet.

Conclusion-

Well come to the conclusion, I've used both of these platforms on and off for over the past year.

Now so with this if would conclude then my answer will be, it depends I'd say go use google meet if you just need a simple video calling solution because it works pretty well it's got basic features you don't have to download an app for it as long as everybody has a Google account it’s going to work well for your situation.

The biggest plus right now for using Google Meet is there is a no 40-minute time limit the time limit per meeting is 24 hours now keep in mind that the time limit will reduce to 60minutes come September 2020.

Now if you need a video calling solution that has more advanced features like live-streaming or background replacement then I'd say yes you want to use Zoom. It's the solution everybody has heard of and it works well.

Coronavirus vaccine by September 2020 can be develop said by many scientists, but is it possible? This is the first time in the history of the Modern world; such a desperate search is being made for a vaccine. Until today, 100+ vaccines are being explored.

Despite many Govts., Scientists and pharmaceutical companies are involved in the search for a vaccine, it is estimated that it would take 12-18 months to develop such a vaccine.

But why does the development of a vaccine take so much time? And what is India's position in this vaccine research project?

The Vaccine Process

Usually, it takes 10-15 years to develop a vaccine provided, only if the project is going in the right direction.
Scientists are trying to find out a cure for HIV, for the past 40 years and still, a vaccine for HIV can only be expected by 2030, which is only after 50 years from the development of the [HIV viral] infection.

Fastest ever vaccine was developed in 5 years. To understand why so much time is needed to develop a vaccine, we need to understand every step involved in a vaccine development program.

Until today, there are 113 vaccine candidates. This does not mean that we will get 113 vaccines, because many of these vaccine candidates would not be successful.

To understand this, consider the vaccine development program to be a competition, where 113 candidates are participating, but they'll have to face several tests.

The first stage in Vaccine development is Research, where scientists also need to secure approvals and funding.

Usually, this phase takes almost 2 years. But the present situation is not usual.
Scientists in China published the genetic sequence of COVID-19 on Jan 12, 2020, just within a week after isolating [the virus] from a patient.

Till late January [end], many had used the data from the genetic sequence and started working on it.

Scientists also found assistance from previous researches, which was done during SARS (2003) & MERS (2012) outbreaks. The virus responsible for SARS is 80% identical (similar) to the COVID-19 virus.

Due to this fact, many vaccine candidates crossed their research stage just within a few months instead of 2 years.

The Trail Stages

There are 3 phases in this stage, which take nearly 4 years to be completed.

Cases of COVID-19, they'll have to complete within just a few months.

In the first phase, scientists check the effectiveness of the vaccine through animal tests and then through small scale human trials.

Then the second phase, scientists proceed with testing the vaccine on many humans and try to examine [check] if their bodies create an immune response [to the virus].

When coming to the last phase [of research stage], Scientists test for immunity in large communities where almost thousands of people are involved.

In the case of COVID-19, almost 20,000 - 30,000 people would be involved in their research trials where scientists would divide these people into 2 groups.

Moderna, an American company had recently announced that their Phase - 1 trials have been successful where they had researched [the vaccine] on 8 human subjects.

There are now heading to Phase - 2 trials.

The best-case scenario is that by Sept, 2020 we might have a vaccine for COVID-19. But some people have also expressed that we might not get a vaccine even by 2021 or 2022 unless we are lucky.

After crossing these 2 stages, we would get a vaccine that is effective against COVID-19. Then we will have to manufacture it and also at such a level [scale], never done in history before which makes it very challenging.

When companies build a vaccine production factory [plant], every equipment is specialized. Due to this reason, we will not be able to use any other vaccine [production plant] factory to manufacture [the vaccine] for COVID-19. Such factories could take nearly 5 years to be built.

Step taken by few foundation

Many people like Bill Gates are trying to reduce this time [duration]. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have announced that they have already started building factories for [the production of] 7 different vaccines.

This means that if any 1 of those 7 vaccines is successful in all Research and Trial stages, there would at least be a factory to immediately manufacture that vaccine.

Even if these factories start [production of the vaccine] we will have to produce vaccine [dosages] in such numbers [scale], never done in history before. This is not very easy.

We might think, we are capable of manufacturing crores of chocolates, TVs, cameras. Then what is the difficulty in manufacturing vaccines?

This is because [production of] vaccines need highly specialized equipment whose demand will be very high when we start producing vaccines.

Vaccines are stored in vials. These vials are not made of ordinary glass but a specialized glass so that they are not damaged in different environments and during transportation across the world.

Currently, we don't even have enough vials to produce crores [dosage] of this vaccine. After manufacturing, we'll have to distribute these vaccines.

We'll not just need trucks (for transportation) but also syringes, cotton &band-aid. But before that, our Government will have to think about another complicated question.

Suppose our Central Govt. gets 10 lakh dosages of the vaccine, which 10 lakhs [of the Indian population] will get this vaccine?

Speed vs. Safety

According to a professor from Yale University, "If we try to develop a vaccine through normal methods, we will not be able to do it within 18 months."So many companies are pushing the boundaries of innovation. Like Vaxart is trying to develop an orally administered vaccine.

Another German company [CureVac]is trying to produce a low dosage vaccine which could be manufactured easily.

But to meet our objectives, we will have to compromise either between safety or speed. In both ways, the victims [sufferers]will only be human lives.

Traditional vaccines include a weakened virus. In the 1950s, a Polio vaccine was developed which was approved in just a few hours. But the virus in the vaccine was not very weak.

The patients who were administered the vaccine contracted Polio due to the vaccine and unfortunately led to the death of 11 children.

In 2015, a French drug company – Sanofihad introduced a vaccine for dengue. Many experts felt that it was not tested properly.

In the Philippines, this vaccine led to the worsening of dengue conditions among children.

Globalization vs. Nationalism

Due to the urgency of this vaccine, many companies are cooperating in ways unprecedented.

Like, many companies are sharing data about failed vaccine candidates so the others don't repeat the same research.

We are noticing such [tremendous] coordination between companies but not between governments.

Coronavirus Vaccine USA

The USA and China are in a race to develop this vaccine, as it has become their prestige issue.

We had seen the same trend during the Cold War when the USA and the Soviet Union (USSR) were involved in a space race to find out which country could send an astronaut to the moon first.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that if China develops the vaccine; it would make it available to the entire world.

This could be a method to recover China's international reputation.

Would this really happen?

I guess only time will tell.

But in the case of COVID-19, when the scale of the disease is so huge, what would happen?

Suppose the USA funds a French drug company, to develop a vaccine which is being manufactured in India.

Which country would get access to the vaccine first?

Our government(s) will have to think about such questions.
Fortunately, in the case of vaccines, India is in a very good position. 60 - 70% of the world's vaccines are manufactured in India.

Serum Institute, which is an Indian company, is the world's largest vaccine manufacturer.

They have signed agreements with 4 vaccine developers to manufacture vaccines and Serum Institute's CEO has announced that Indians would get the vaccine first.

From the history of HIV, anti-viral drugs could reduce death rates and transmission rates to a large extent.
But, most importantly our world needs a vaccine to return to normalcy [normal times].

Besides, we also don't know if the COVID-19 vaccine would give us lifetime immunity like smallpox vaccine or just for 1-2 years like the vaccines for[family of] other coronaviruses.

In order to face this disease, we need 2 things, Luck and Cooperation. The former (Luck) is beyond our control. But we could control the latter (Cooperation).

It is the first solar eclipse of the year 2020, here are the timings the solar eclipse will start – 9:15 AM IST and it will go on till 3:04 PM IST. People have given a title to it, which is called as “RING OF FIRE”.

The reason behind this is the annular solar eclipse, which means during this time moon will properly cover the sun from the center and that will show a beautiful ring of light in the sky.

Basically, the logic behind is that the moon will go far away from the earth and that will make its perfect size which is not big enough to cover the whole sun by itself.

What is Solar Corona?

The solar corona is also known as sun corona, the bright and shiny head crown-like ring made up of gas around the sun that will be visible during an eclipse of June 21st, 2020, that could kill the virus since people are predicting it is much hotter than the other layers of the sun (sun surface).

Scientists, however, claimed to say that this can be only possible theoretically as it will happen only if the sun corona gets much closer to earth and definitely which is not, as it is a far distance between the sun and the earth is 152.02 million km and that is not possible.

Path of Solar eclipse

Let’s look into the path which going to be cover by the solar eclipse on June 21, the annular eclipse also known as the ring of fire which will first start from Congo in Africa and progress through South Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the Indian Ocean, and Pakistan before it enters in India over Rajasthan.

It will then move on to Tibet, China, Taiwan, and at last it will end in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. There is a small fact which is -this will be the last eclipse which basically India will experience for now.

The next eclipse will be seen from India after 28 months as the coming eclipse in India on October 25th,2022.

How Solar eclipse related to Coronavirus?

The big question being asked very regularly in fact there are searches that are spiking for this question every single day as we approach the solar eclipse on Sunday, June 21st the question is will the solar eclipse effect or kill the coronavirus and the short answer is No it will not.

This is fake news a channel scientist has in fact claimed that the coronavirus the solar eclipse will end the coronavirus pandemic he says the pandemic had started in December last year when there was a solar eclipse and now with this approaching solar eclipse on June 21st the pandemic is going to end.

There's nothing scientific to verify or prove that the outbreak had happened in December because of a solar eclipse and that it will end with the coming solar eclipse.

This Chennai-based scientist - El Sundar Krishna has said, some of the objects that came out of the solar system during the solar eclipse were attributed to Covid-19, and also there were interplanetary forces variations in the atmosphere that began that gave neutrons.

They gave rise to neutrons that began nucleating which further resulted in a bio-nuclear interaction in the upper atmosphere these are not scientific claims.

It was kind of a theory which given by a Chennai “scientist” that on June 21st, 2020, solar eclipse known as RING OF FIRE will actually help as a “natural remedy to kill this coronavirus”.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there is no evidence that all of this happened and obviously, there is a lot of research going on about the origin of the coronavirus.

Nothing has pointed to bio-nuclear interactions in the upper atmosphere in fact a cursory google search about this term does not even throw up any results.

What are Pollinators?

Pollinators are animals that move pollen from the male structure (anthers) of the flowers to the female structure (stigma) of the same plant species.

The movement of pollen (analogous to sperm) to the stigma of the flower results in the fertilization of the eggs of the flower.

A properly fertilized flower will produce seeds and fruit surrounding the seeds, ensuring that a new generation of plants can be grown.

The role of pollinators is, among other things, to ensure reproduction, fruit setting, and plant dispersion, both in agroecosystems and in natural ecosystems.

Pollination helps both the plants and the pollinators. Pollination results in the production of seeds and is necessary for the reproduction of many plants.
Pollinators have different characteristics and reactions to different temperatures and habitats, which means that we have pollinators suitable for different climates.

Their diversity not only ensures pollination for current conditions but also for future ones.

Although pollinators play a key role in the production of more than 75% of the crops.

There has been a massive decline in their population, in particular bees and butterflies, mainly due to unsustainable farming practices and the use of harmful pesticides.

Why bees are disappearing?

The COVID 19 pandemic lockdown has been impacting the country's economy badly.

Economic activity is at a halt. After the lockdown, which started on 25th March 2020, the Indian economy has also been severely affected.

A huge amount of investments are required to give impetus to the Indian economy. Buying Indian products will give the Indian economy the needed boost.

If we try to get an in-depth understanding, then we can realize that the concept which we are applying now was already started back in the era of the Swadeshi movement, started in 1905 as part of the Indian independence movement by Mahatma Gandhi Ji.

On 12th May 2020, at 8 pm speech, PM Modi addressed the nation for a fight against this pandemic situation (Corona Virus), also highlighted the need to boost domestic consumption while enhancing the local production.

Atmanirbhar Bharat was the main agenda of his speech.

That means we should not wait for the Pandemic to end and depend on other countries for our economic growth. But we must use our own LOCAL Indian company’s goods more & more so that they could make a GLOBAL impact.

Due to coronavirus, it’s been more than 2 months of lockdown and due to which many industries are about to shut down and some have already been shut down.

Many people lost their jobs and many are about to, salary deduction is happening all around and few industries are about to get swiped out in the coming few months.

It's a serious condition which we all are going to face. It's time to be local and be vocal for it.
we have to buy local products and proudly promote it too.

Question arises here ... how it's going to help?

Well, we all have to support MADE IN INDIA product only... but the fact is till date only 20-22% of Indian consumers are likely to buy MADE IN INDIA product whereas 80% are still dependent on foreign products. So now our target should be to convert that 20% into 100% by opting for Indian products.

This time we have to be NIRBHAR only on Indian product, so in this way DEMAND for Indian product will increase.

Do you know what will happen after this?

Manufacturers have to increase their production and if manufacturing units will increase then definitely, a lot of manpower will be required which means the rate of employment increases and the whole supply chain will change and grow.

All these profits which will be earned by these industries will stay in India itself and will lead to growth in the Indian economy.

Let’s try to understand how can we be self-reliant? At the time of this crisis situation, China sends all the faulty and substandard test kits and earned all the profit through it.

If it was any other country, they would have been extra careful to ensure their image improves!

But China doesn’t care!

EXAMPLE – Hydroxychloroquine is a medicine which is used against Malaria and can be proven useful against COVID 19 as well.

India is the largest manufacturer of this drug and we exported 50 million pills to the US!

But do you know?

The raw material for this comes from China and during the coronavirus pandemic China suddenly raised the prices, that’s why now India wants to build a complete supply chain in India so that we do not depend (NIRBHAR) on China.

In the manufacturing sector, China in on top of the world, 1 out of 5 things is manufactured in china which means 20% of global output comes from China.

Manufacturing in China is so cheap that we don’t have any other option…... RIGHT?

The textile industry has to close down due to COVID 19 but even during these high times, they found an opportunity, rather than shutting down the factories they decided to make PPE kits.

You know what, today India makes 450,000 kits every single day.

In this 2 months, India became the second-largest PPE kit manufacturer in the world, this new industry will be worth 60 billion dollars by 2025. All these happened in less than 60 days, it does look impossible but yes it's true.

Well if this is not enough let me drag your attention to a different fact which is JOB/employment

1000 American companies left manufacturing in China and might move to India and as you know 300 of them have already signed on papers and this time they are planning to target in a small city in India, so yes If India won't work on their negatives then India will lose a big opportunity.

So the point is that govt. and different industrial sectors already realized that in the coming days India can be an alternative to China in terms of manufacturing.

The only people who don’t think this is practical are NORMAL PEOPLE like us.

History always proves that whenever a country hits rock bottom it is the people who bring it back to life.

What are locusts?

Let’s know a bit about locusts, locusts are an insect that is very much similar to grasshopper and cricket.

In fact, all these three insects belong to the same family. locusts are generally found in desert regions.

You know what is so unique about this locust as compare to grasshopper and crickets, it exists in two phases- it has 2 forms or phase which doesn’t exists in grasshopper and crickets.

These forms are- when they stay alone, then its stay in a solitary phase, but when it is present in crowds and the environmental conditions are congenial.

For example, wet soil after recent rains with trees and plants in full bloom so at that time they totally transform their form into something different way and that phase is called the gregarious phase.

This metamorphosis of form changes everything about them- their behavior, habits, appearance. It is something like a magic or power up completely.

There is a huge difference in a solitary phase and the gregarious phase. Here we do not have a problem with the ones in their solitary phase but the problem arises when they exist in crowds and are in their gregarious phase- They are yellow and black in color and their eating habits change like they can eat more food and more varieties of food, their endurance increases and their movements become more rapid, even their brain size becomes larger.

How large can one locust swarm be?

The swarm can be as large as a rectangle of 40 km by 60 km.

The swarm found in Kenya in 2020 was 40 km by 60 km in dimension and in a swarm, there can be more than 150 million locusts within one square kilometer

A swarm can eat as much as 2,500 people in one day, so you can imagine the extent of its scale.

Just imagine how much destruction it can cause and this is why it is said that the locusts are a kind of species that have the most economic impact on the entire planet as compared to any other animal species.

You can see the regions in which this happens- Africa, Middle-East, Pakistan and the western part of India, they are found in larger numbers here because of the large extent of the desert areas in this region.

How Locusts Devour Everything in their path?

There is no other species on the plant that responds as quickly as desert locusts do, the young locusts are known as hoppers, for at this stage they are flightless.

They found new feeding grounds by following the smell of sprouting grass.

Normally it takes four weeks for hoppers to become adults, but when the conditions are correct, as now, their evolvement switches to the fast track.

As the vegetation runs out from one place, the winged adults release pheromones- scent messages which tell others in the group that they must move on.

When a group of locusts merge they form SWARM.

An adult locust eat its entire body weight every day and the whole Swarm can consume literally hundreds of tons of vegetation.

According to their nature they have to keep on moving, the swarms travel with the wind as they know it’s the most-energy saving way of flying.

They believe that following the flow of wind means that they’re always heading towards the area of low pressure, places where the wind meets rains and vegetation just start to grow.

History of locust plague

These locust attacks have been happening for thousands of years throughout the human history.

We all have might noticed in our entire life once that ancient Egyptians had drawn locusts on their tombs.

This tells us that there had been locusts attack even in that age, these tombs are dated around 2400 BC.

The reason why they are mentioned in a lot of religious texts - for example, Bible and Quran mention locust plagues, it is believed that the locust plague mentioned in the Bible happened in reality in Egypt in around 1400 BC.

So, this is a problem that has been festering for ages.

Locust attack in India

The locust attack in India today is the worst in the past 27 years in India.

According to a few news blogs like THE HINDU – it’s said that The last big infestation was in 2010.

There were 13 locust plagues between 1964 and 1997.

From 1997 to 2010, there were five outbreaks that were controlled. From 2010 to 2018, there were no major swarms or breeding reported, according to the Locust Warning Organization (LWO), in Jodhpur.

In 2019, Gujarat and Rajasthan reported a significant surge in locust infestations. Nearly 3.5 lakh hectares of cumin, rapeseed, and mustard were damaged and officials had then said that it was the worst attack since 1993.

What makes locust to enter in India?

The climate change is indirectly held responsible for the locust’s attacks happening today, the Indian ocean is warming up more than usual due to the climate change.

The rains become more extreme due to the enhanced heating of the ocean.

There are many other factors like- torrential rains hit East Africa around the time of December 2019, In fact, there were floods as well - East Africa includes- Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia.

Due to floods and torrential rains, congenial environmental conditions are created for the locusts.

So this becomes a great opportunity for the locusts to breed and change into the gregarious phase, Around February 2020, there was a huge locust plague in Africa after which, these swarms of locusts began to travel east- It traveled to Iran, then Pakistan and now by the time of May, this plague has begun its move towards India.

The winds of the cyclone that had hit Bengal moved in such a direction and in such a way that they were further pushing the swarm of the locusts towards India and this is exerting a very negative influence on Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana.

What is the Solution to fight this locust plague?

Definitely, there is a solution to fight with this locust plague, few are old methods and few are new ideas. all these solutions do come up with some consequences but they do work.

1. Simply spraying them with pesticides and insecticides.

2. Use of eco-friendly Pesticides.

3. The use of loud noises, the locusts flee from any kind of noise.

4. Basically, the farmers were asked to trap these locusts and collect them which will indirectly become food for chicken and help in feeding them because locust is a good source of protein (70% protein) – solution given by Pakistan after testing it in their district.
