Technology trends that could change the world

Technologies that could change the world have been a popular topic for the past half century. True, the predictions that everyone would drive flying cars have not materialized, but what has materialized would astound those who offered such predictions 50 years ago. And where emerging technologies are headed is even more stunning.

Seven technologies, in my opinion, are poised for explosive growth very soon. And what they can accomplish this year and beyond is not even the most significant disruption that I see them causing. But I’ll get to that later. First, let’s look at the Significant Seven.

Internet of Things (IoT)

The IoT literally surrounds us. The number of physical devices that are part of the IoT surpassed three times earth’s population in 2017 and is expected to exceed 10 times earth’s population by 2025.

This connection between physical objects and digital systems serves two purposes. It can create “smart” products that extend both the products’ functionalities and their users’ ability to connect with them. This gives consumers more control of the world around them and a more satisfying user experience.

Or it can feed data from physical objects into a digital system that can analyze and use that information to improve the outcomes of manufacturing or other processes. Outcome-based IoT enables cities to provide more efficient transportation to residents, power companies to anticipate equipment failures and fix them before users are inconvenienced, manufacturers to improve their processes, car manufacturers to improve vehicle safety, health providers to monitor high-risk patients remotely and much more.

IoT is even being used in dirt. Sensors embedded in agricultural operations monitor soil conditions. That data is analyzed by digital systems that control irrigation and fertilization to ensure that each segment of the field receives optimum water and nutrition to achieve maximum yields.

Expect IoT to grow dramatically. With$1.7 trillion projected to be spent on IoT by 2020, it promises to be the fastest-growing technology transforming our lives.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI, after decades of debate over whether it offered any applicability to business, is on the verge of hockey stick growth. Market research firm Tractica predicted that AI annual revenues would explode from $644 million in 2016 to $5 billion in 2020 to $36 billion in 2025.

AI already operates in many areas of our digital lives without us realizing it. It operates in smartphones and other computing devices, driving voice assistance functions, like Alexa, Siri Cortana. It operates in our email platforms and social media, observing what gets our attention, so it can sort incoming messages accordingly.

Our digital lives and physical lives are rapidly converging. As they do, AI will touch nearly every aspect of our lives, from the cities we live in (smart cities), the homes we live in (smart houses), the cars we drive (smart cars), the items we use (manufactured in smart factories) to the food we eat (grown by agribusinesses that employ smart technology to monitor soil and climate to wring the highest possible yields out of each square meter of their fields).

Shanghai, China, currently is working to become the leading provider of smart technology to the world. It is building its own million-acre “Intelligence Valley” and other smaller AI-focused industrial centers, which it expects to be the next step in the evolution displacing Silicon Valley as the center of cutting-edge technologies.

With AI poised to affect our lives in nearly everything we touch, we need to prepare for the massive changes it will bring not only to our physical but also to our work world. And with the speed at which AI is transforming our work world, it is high time that we consider how to prepare for the disruptions AI will bring.

Blockchain

Blockchain is chiefly known as the technology that underlies cryptocurrencies. It provides a digital distributed ledger that securely validates and records all transactions submitted to it without running transactions through a centralized, trusted third party to validate their accuracy and integrity. The system uses cryptology, redundancy and algorithms rather than human oversight to provide almost instantaneous transaction validation.

Uses for this technology go far beyond cryptocurrencies, though. Early adopters among financial institutions are paving the way for a faster and less expensive way of processing financial transactions than traditional systems do.

Blockchain also enhances the processes related to drafting and executing contracts, through smart contracts. Rather than needing human intervention to validate that conditions have been met at every step in contract fulfillment, a smart contract monitors all conditions online and automatically triggers whatever action required whenever a condition is met.

Blockchain opens new use cases in the healthcare industry, too. It provides a secure way in which multiple providers can access patient information without jeopardizing patient privacy. And it opens use cases for the sharing economy, allowing peer-to-peer payments for high-value assets that this economy requires.

Researchers are currently exploring blockchain for creating a more robust domain name system that would better protect websites against DDoS attacks, a simpler and more transparent and secure election process and much more.

3D Printing

3D printing can do more than produce prototypes or novelty items. It offers a promising future for creating both highly customized or highly standardized items. In the realm of customized items, 3D printing already produces 98% of the hearing aids used worldwide, because of its ability to provide a perfect fit for each person’s ear canal. As for standardized items, Airbus increasingly uses 3D printing for finished parts in its aircraft.

3D printing makes going from design to finished product one, continuous step, free from costly steps such as prototyping or tooling. This cost reduction increases opportunity for innovation and experimentation.

It also offers the ability to create far more complex designs. GE used this functionality to redesign its LEAP jet engine nozzle as a single component instead of 18, eliminating the need to assemble all those components and greatly reducing its weight.

3D printing also allows a production-on-demand model that eliminates costly overproduction and storage costs. 3D printing facilities will not face the kind of limitations that today’s manufacturers face; instead, they will be able to print any final products for which their customer provides the design. Thus, a new, Manufacturing-as-a-Service model is likely to develop to serve customers who don’t want to invest in their own 3D printers.

Of course, eventual commoditization of the technology will eventually lead to 3D printers printing needed parts on-site. Many manufacturers will eventually sell designs more than finished products.

Robots

Robots have been around for half a century, but their uses today are rapidly changing. Once largely isolated from human workspaces, they are increasingly being used in dynamic environments and alongside humans.

Hospitals increasingly use them for routine needs – and are considering them for delicate operations, due to their ability to mimic human movements with greater precision than humanly possible and without getting fatigued. Agribusinesses find them capable of identifying and killing weeds, or picking delicate fruit. Improved sensor systems allow robots to work close to humans without the risk of inadvertently harming them.

The strides forward in machine learning also make collaboration between humans and robots attractive. Many of today’s robots are capable of learning tasks from humans that programmers couldn’t effectively program into less advanced robots.

Today’s robots are becoming more modular. Whereas previous generations largely were designed as proprietary systems capable of functioning only for specific purposes, manufacturers today develop platforms and modules that can be adapted to highly customized needs without users needing to build everything from scratch.

Advancements are bringing the price of robots down, too. Single-purpose robots once cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Models that are far more advanced and flexible in functionality now cost only tens of thousands. All these factors make robots attractive not only on the manufacturing but in a wide range of environments.

Drones

Mention the word “drones,” and most people picture either a hobbyist piloting a personal drone for entertainment or widely publicized tests on using drones to deliver packages to people’s doorsteps. Applications for drones go far beyond those two uses, though. A 2016 PwC studyof the global business market for drones places their value to businesses at more than $127 billion.

Drones can do anything a helicopter can do. The fact that they are smaller, cheaper to build and don’t require professional pilots makes them a huge cost cutter for owners. Also, drones’ ability to fly over and monitor any terrain makes them especially valuable to enterprises that have physical assets spread out over large stretches of territory.

Uses are wide-ranging. Their ability to reach remote or dangerous locations suits them for mapping, monitoring and delivering supplies to locations that are difficult to reach by traditional methods. They can monitor critical infrastructure such as pipelines or power lines across sparsely populated spaces, even providing immediate response to threats, if needed. Researchers even envision adding maintenance capabilities to drones, to enable them to perform minor repairs to problems they detect.

Drones are already used for aerial photography, for surveying construction sites to inspect progress and head off potential problems, and to do the otherwise difficult job of inspecting windmills on energy farms for signs of stress. Drones also use sensors on large agricultural operations to monitor crop health, detect potential insect infestations and administer pesticide applications to locations that need them.

Those who write off drones merely as hobbyists’ toys or dreams that will never be fulfilled are in for a surprise. As use cases, technology advancements and regulatory acceptance of drones grow, they should become a common sight around us.

Augmented Reality (AR)

AR bridges the gap between the physical world and the digital one. It provides data – often in hands-free format – needed by personnel engaging in a physical process.

DHL warehouse workers wearing AR-enabled smart glasses that guided them through item picking showed a 25% increase in order fulfillment efficiency in a 2015 study. In another 2015 study, factory trainees at Boeing who used to AR to help them assemble a mock airplane wing worked 30% faster and made 90% fewer mistakes on the first try when they used AR-animated tablets than those who worked from static PDFs.

AR can eliminate costly trips by experts to repair sophisticated equipment in remote locations. By providing regular staff at those locations with context-sensitive equipment specifications and repair directions, non-specialists can make repairs despite their lack of intimate knowledge of the equipment.

Future AR capabilities are expected to push human interaction with computers far beyond traditional keyboard, mouse and touch-screen interfaces. AR devices are expected also to use location-sensing technology that updates what the user sees in real time as they move relative to the object, as well as sensing user hand movements and eye tracking.

As AR technology advances, steep growth is expected. A study from ReportsnReports predicted that revenues for this technology would rise from $660 million in 2015 to $2.6 billion in 2022. And this growth was predicted despite AR’s current fragmentation behind multiple platforms.

The most significant disruptor – technology convergences

While each of these technologies promise significant benefits on their own, the true potential for changing our world comes not from what they will do individually, but what they will do together. We will feel the biggest impact once we integrate these technologies into complex and innovative use cases.

Although I saw such projects starting in 2017, 2018 seems like the year when convergence will speed up. These technologies, once integrated, will be more disruptive than the PC and Internet ever were.

Internet of Payments (IoP)

One way in which technologies are merging is with IoP. IoP enables IoT-connected devices to autonomously place orders and authorize payments, facilitated by AI, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Research suggests that this Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market will account for $27.62 billion in 2023.

Even now, apps like Amazon Dash and FitPay make it possible to save the time used to find and order favorite products by placing orders at the touch of a button. Yet projections are that even this minimal human interaction will eventually be unnecessary for purchases. Here are some use cases envisioned for IoP.

A washing machine recognizes that one of its parts is close to the end of its useful life and authorizes the purchase and shipment of the failing part.
A driver stops for gas, the car authenticates the driver’s identity and authorizes the gas purchase as the driver starts filling the tank – all without the driver pulling out a credit card.
A health insurance company monitors policyholder fitness participation and authorizes a rebate or rate reduction based on the policyholder meeting predetermined goals.
A consumer hears a voice message through the car’s connection with the consumer’s smartphone that the consumer’s bank has offered attractive terms for a loan on a big-ticket item the consumer was researching earlier. With a simple “yes,” voice recognition activates the loan, the order is placed and is scheduled for delivery – all without the driver taking hands off the wheel or eyes off the road.

None of these are likely to come into widespread use in 2018. Some of the more complex scenarios are a few years away. But the technologies necessary to accomplish such transactions are rapidly moving toward becoming as commonplace as using apps on our smartphones is today.

What full convergence of emerging technologies may be like

Convergence of these technologies likely will go beyond just the IoT, AI and blockchain involved in IoP. Here’s an example of how this convergence could change our lives.

Imagine a smart apartment building in which IoT vibration sensors are attached to core components of heating and air conditioning equipment. Those sensors send data for AI analytics processing. We are making great advances in predictive maintenance and in estimating Remaining Usefulness Lifetime (RUL). Predictions are becoming more precise and accurate.

By monitoring slight changes in vibrations of each part, AI analysis determines when a part needs to be replaced. Rather than replacing parts months – or years – before they need to be, or waiting until one fails and inconveniences tenants, AI analysis ensures that the property owner gets maximum use of each part, generallydecreasing replacement costs by 20%.

When AI analysis determines that a part is near the end of its RUL, it can autonomously order a replacement part using IoP. Depending on the part, it might be printed on-site by an industrial 3D printer. All this would happen without human intervention (at least up to a predefined spending limit) and would be paid via cryptocurrencies. The AIsystem analyzing all the vibrations would send the request to the 3D printerdirectly.

If printing the replacement part on-site is not feasible, the system could send an order to an outside part supplier. This provider could manufacture and deliver the part by drone, self-driving truck orrobot, like the small, local-delivery four-wheel autonomous delivery vehicle that Domino’s is testing in Australia.

In the whole example so far, human intervention would not be needed (unless the part’s cost exceeded the predetermined spending limit). That includes eliminating the need for equipment checks by maintenance engineers, orders, accounts receivable, accounts payable or delivery. The technologies would handle all those steps.

Once the part was printed or delivered, a maintenance engineer would be notified to install it. Even here, technology would change the replacement process. Rather than the building having multiple specialist engineers (electricity, plumbing, HVAC) on staff to maintain complex systems, the building could call an engineer with general rather than specialized skills to perform the replacement. Such an engineer would be able to perform tasks beyond their training, guided step-by-step by AR.

This removal of humans from such a scenario does not mean that people will have no jobs. They will have opportunity for higher-level-employment in jobs that these technologies have not yet created.

Before you conclude that the scenario I just presented is a pipe dream, I worked on a very similar project. It was not for a smart apartment building, but for an industrial facility. The description I shared has not yet reached the mainstream, but this scenario is already used in specialized environments. What I believe will push this scenario into the mainstream is the outcome of that project. The savings and efficiencies achieved were unprecedented.

Taking the scenario further

Now take that scenario and expand it beyond a single building. The same technologies could deploy across cities, transportation systems, power distribution grids, water and waste management systems and food providers.Smart cities and all the elements that go into where we live, how we get around, how we work, what we eat and how we live our lives rest on systems that these converging technologies offer great potential for greater efficiencies and improved sustainability.

All these technologies are ripe for rapid growth individually and exponential growth as they converge. The chief question for the speed of growth in 2018 is how quickly those who are in to implement these technologies will recognize what they can do together.

How fast will transformation come?

Most of what we got in 2017 seemed willing only to nudge the status quo. We got a lot of half-baked technology and devices – many of which were eventually abandoned because they were geared more toward rolling out a new gizmo than providing value. We got “Smart City” projects that were too limited to truly effect change.

The place to watch for true disruptions is China. Their efforts to explore the full range of these technologies surfaced in their “Intelligence Valley” efforts, as well as in several ambitious, ongoing efforts to build comprehensive “Smart Cities” from the ground up.

China, thus, will likely provide the most dramatic transformations from these technologies and their convergence in 2018. The rest of the world likely will merely pursue fragmented efforts for small gains and then play catch-up as China takes the lead.

How fast should transformation come?

Then again, there’s a downside to pushing these transformations too rapidly. Perhaps the examples I gave earlier of potential use cases for IoP gave you pause. “Having machinery order its own parts? Having my car authorize a fuel purchase? Having a simple ‘yes” obligate me to a big-ticket purchase?”

If you had any of those thoughts, you have good reason to do so. The same applies if you wondered about any of these technologies, “But how will this be protected from hackers?”

The technologies described, while offering wonderful benefits, also createpotential vulnerabilities that must be addressed. They also raise privacy concerns.

The possibility also exists that cybercriminals will adapt emerging technologies to aid them in criminal endeavors. AI could conceivably be used to create more sophisticated phishing techniques. Drones could be used to drop grenades on crowded venues.

One of the longtime banes of emerging technologies has been their creators’ rush to monetize them as quickly as possible. Consumers are enticed by the new bells and whistles offered and rarely ask providers, “Is it adequately secured?” If we are to fully realize the benefits of these technologies – individually or converged – security needs to be at the forefront, not on the back burner.

What to expect

Expect these technologies to become increasingly integrated into everyday life in 2018 and beyond. Don’t expect to see them arrive with great fanfare, though. Most people will barely notice as they creep into daily life through new functionalities added to things they already use.

Their steady expansion into everyday life will add greater efficiencies and more benefits than we saw in recent times. They will not be as dramatic as cars buzzing through the air in all directions but they will be potentially even more useful.

The 10 less known facts of the BODO or BORO (Mech) community-

Nakrashur (NARKHW-ASHUR) ruled in Assam who belonged to Kirat-Ashur tribe. Pragjyotishpur (PURGAJWNGTIPUR-LAND OF BRIGHT LIGHT) was his capital. He belonged to the Kirat-ashur nationality, also called Mlechha king or the king of the Mlech or Mech people. (Kirat Janakriti, S.K.Chatterjee).
The kamakhya temple build by Narkrashur was a Bathou temple.
Narakasur was killed by Lord Krishna of Dwaraka.
King Bhagadatta, the son of King Narkashur, also took part in the battle of Kuruchetra. He formed two regiments and fought on the side of Kauravas against the Pandavas. He was slain in the battle.
An intellectual luminary Dr. S. K. Chatterjee in his competent work, "Kirat Janakriti" mentions that Buddha, who is considered as one of the greatest leaders and teachers of mankind, was thought to be of pure or of mixed Kirat origin.
The Bodos are the first settlers and thought to have introduced rice cultivation and silkworm rearing to the region.
The word ‘Bodo’ was first used by the European scholar, Hudgson to refer to a group of languages of the Mongoloid race and Sino-Tibeto group of people inhabitating the hills and plains of the entire North Eastern region of India.
Mr. Rajani Kanta Hazarika mentioned in the “Book Mangal Kachari Gupta Itihas” (1986) that the kings of the Kirata of that early age used the Boro language of the present age along with their subjects. During the period of the pre-Mahabharata age there was no habitant of any other nations in the Eastern part of Guwahati than the Kirata Mangal people. The people of the Bodo Kachari group of families belonged to the family of the Bana King. The people of that family used the Boro Language.
The Bodo language had a script of its own called Deodhai.
According to Dr. P.C. Chowdhury and other historians the Boro language was the official and Court language of the Kirata Kings. With the help of Boro language and its medium, the Kiratas developed their art and culture and were civilized. But in the later period the Aryan Kings and the people tried to destroy the Boro Language and Mediums.

The Word Assamese has become a threat to Indigenous Tribal.

The word Assamese should not exist, as we refer the history there is no community or tribe known as Assamese it is only another state nationality given by some conservative political organizations for vote banks and selfish mileage. Today this same term 'Assamese' has become a threat to the language, customs, traditions and belief of indigenous tribal.

Living in India we have only one citizenship i.e. 'Indian' and Assam is only demarcation of place or area, Article 15 of the Constitution provides that the State should not discriminate against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them. Single citizenship is a great step forward in the creation of a united and integrated India. According to M. V. Pylee, “the provision of single citizenship is a great step forward in the creation of an integrated Indian society.
As a result, the citizens of India are clothed with common civil and political rights all over the country. A single citizenship for the entire country removes much of the artificial State barriers that prevailed in pre- independence days and facilitates the freedom of trade, commerce and intercourse throughout the territory of India”.

But, the Asam Sahitya Sabha has violated the constitution by terming people living in Assam as Assamese. Consider all those people as Assamese who, irrespective of community, language, religion and place of origin, who accept Assamese as their mother tongue or either their second or third language.
Which only gives emphasis to a particular language neglecting the indigenous tribal languages and endangering them. There are many people in Assam who can only speak their native language.
Recently, the govt. of Assam has printed the NRC forms only in Assamese, Bengali and English, which is and insult to Bodo tribal population of about 30 lakhs. This awful sense of isolation where the forms available in the entire state are only in English, Assamese and Bengali is an insult. More than 30 lakhs of Bodos in the entire state who can read and write in Bodo language will be bewildering at the forms, large group of community would be deprived of using the language listed within the 8th schedule. Such an injustice was only possible with their negligence and to impose their language and culture. Presently, NRC (National Register of Citizens) form printed in Bodo language for BTAD region is proposed by the Govt. of Assam, after the demand raised by ABSU (All Bodo Student Union) and the people of proposed Bodoland. *(Bodo language is included in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution)

We do not have dual citizenship system in India to introduce a new term ASSAMESE as a state nationality. We are only Indians and we are known by our own tribe and race within India. We do not need the term Assamese to claim for our rights, we can directly mention indigenous people of Assam if we want it for claiming rights without mixing them as it is the proper way of safeguarding the endangered languages and cultures of different tribes. We have a strong historical background to proof our origin, it is totally baseless to say "Definition of Assamese is required as per clause-6 of Assam accord" only a lost tribe or an illegal immigrant will stick to it as they can't prove their origin.

Assam is a state where people can not live with dignity without identity, and as many independent and popular tribes have grown strong from past decade with their own councils they try to break our unity with all sorts of unacceptable definitions and conditions, please do not be the victims of those traitors.. STOP DIVIDING INDIA!

Fallacy of "My life my rules" system of thought in relevance to the contemporary Bodo society

I have assumed that people following "My life my rules" principles have an Individualistic bent of mind contradictory to collectivism.
Though many groups work for the social welfare of the Bodos, only ABSU is mentioned.

Dissection and attributes of this style of thinking

Technically speaking, this ideology advocates full independence of personal thought process and freedom to choose and set the path and direction that an individual perceive to be the best and most natural way of accomplishing his/her economic, educational, social or spiritual/religious pursuits and aspirations. The DNA of this line of thinking can be traced back to western philosophy. In the Indian context, the ethical and moral justification of such ideology is fair and good as far as it remains a constructive social phenomena where questions of social/moral degradation seldom come to the picture, but as this philosophy boils down to individuals its inherent flaws become conspicuous. Because, individual may not possess the complexity in his/her thinking process to deal with social/moral issues pragmatically. To incompetent and simplistic individuals, it would only mean access to short-term euphoria and freedom from responsibility. It will basically contradict the very purpose for which individual freedom is granted. In a nutshell this philosophy upholds only in society where education and skill has already reached its zenith. Hence, taking into account the Indian educational and social development scenario, "Our life, Our rule" can serve the purpose much better.

This school of thought can be attributed to the western capitalist model of socioeconomic development where individualism is valued over collectivism. Incessant bombardment of campaign for individual freedom and independent thinking by western as well as domestic media seems to have paid off and has shaped various social and personal aspects of contemporary Indians as well as Bodo society. Competency level and economic affluence has the biggest role to play when it comes to shaping individual career growth which in turned determines the dynamics of every society. However, India has the mixed socioeconomic structure in which both the Individualism and collectivism ideology has a role to play.

Personally, I believe that the decision and choice in terms of economic, educational or religious inclination of an individual should be given full autonomy and respect. However, when it comes to decisions pertaining to morality, family and social values, the indigenous/domestic social framework should get the upper hand. The dichotomy emerges because of misalignment of western ideology with the cultural values and tradition of the Indian society. It’s like mixing oil and water. Since, the Bodo society has affinity towards Indianness, Indian standard of morality should be regarded as the benchmark. That would not include revival of evils practiced during the dark times of Indian history which was plagued by caste based disparity and some form of misogyny.

Due to globalization, there is proliferation of western culture and it has penetrated each and every aspects of an individual's personal life. Western culture is good as far as it endows us with competence and skillset to challenge this competitive world, but it comes with a price. That price can be gauged in terms of loss of indigenous local culture. In order to cope up with the advent of superior western culture, there is the trend among local culture to assimilate with western culture. It is noteworthy that it is never the case that two cultures cannot be reconciled and merged into a hybrid culture that can be appealing to youths because of its modernity and at the same time retains some of the ancestral traits. However, problems arises only when there is invasion of culture, be it real or perceived.

Prevalence of collectivism in the Bodo society

Since time memorial, the greatest industries of the Bodos have been the agriculture. It can rightly be attributed to as the backbone of the Bodo economy. In order to optimize the agricultural harvest, the Bodos developed a unique social system in which all the members of the village engaged themselves into the work upon the plot of land owned by a single household. This process is repeated from one plot to the other until all the plots entitled to the village are harvested. This system of engaging entire workforce at a single plot at a time is known as "Hal Jangkra". Henceforth, there is a formal social gathering and merry making called the "Sauri-Janai" which is accommodated by "Jow" or rice bear. This mutual co-operation co-opted by the Bodos eventually lead to advancements like construction of embankments for the purpose of irrigation. The Bodos because of their ingenuity in their social system could flaunt all-season availability of water in their paddy-fields. All this is the testimony to the tendency of collectivism among the Bodos, without which the Bodos certainly won't have achieved its current stature. It won't be wrong to assume that collectivism works best in case of Bodos. In the 21st century context, some elements of collectivism still prevail among the Bodos living in both rural as well as urban areas. In-fact, it is instrumental in maintaining cohesiveness among the Bodos. If this cohesiveness did not have existed, Bodos in terms of cultural and economic integrity would have been exposed to the brute and formidable often merciless forces of Darwinism, i.e., survival of the fittest. A mere century would have been sufficient to obliterate Bodo culture and identity to oblivion. This prediction was in-fact given by Rev. Sidney Endle almost a century ago. However, contrary to the belief of Rev. Endle the Bodos set a different course for themselves and it can be rightly attributed to collectivism spirit among the Bodos.

Ground swelling of Individualism among the Bodos and its repercussions

Though it can be said that Bodo society still largely adheres to collectivism, but due to factors like cross-cultural interaction, advent and appeal of western culture among the educated Bodo masses, collectivism spirit is dwindling among the Bodos and individualism is gaining its momentum. I may reiterate once again at this point of juncture that I do not advocate that collectivism among the Bodos should be preserved in its purest and antique form. However, collectivism of softer version should be imbibed in our culture. Softer version in the sense that decisions related to tricky social/moral issues that are subjective and intricate in nature and of course decisions on issues that has long-term implications and relevance to the Bodo society should be taken collectively.

The rationale behind inapplicability of western concept individualism in the Bodo society is that Bodo society is on its transition from a backward agricultural community to Industrialized society and this transition is still on its nascent stages. Sudden and aggressive proliferation of western version of individualism will destroy the integrity of our social structure and social bonding amongst the Bodos and hence, exacerbate the ongoing socioeconomic and political imbroglio of the region. Organizations like All Bodo Students Union have been playing a very significant role in watch-dogging the "Abuse of privilege" among the Bodo youths in the name of individual freedom.

Conclusion

India accommodates and protects the economically weaker section of the society by granting special rights and privileges to them, which is actually the fallout of the socialist ideology where preference is made on the basis of "according to need" rather than "capacity/ability" in the capitalist model. The Bodos are not even able to fully capitalize on the benefits of reservation and quota systems facilitated by the Indian government. The Bodos will be overwhelmingly disadvantaged if India were to abolish its reservation policy because Bodos are numerically insignificant. After all, competition would be reduced to the game of numbers and we would be at the receiving end. Bodos represents merely 0.02% of 1.2 billion total Indian populations and it would have been a ridiculously unfair competition anyway.

It should be well understood that the current position we hold is due to the combined and mutual efforts among the Bodos which would logically call for collectivist bent of mind which in turn would essentially limit Individual freedom in certain sphere of decision making. We Bodos would have to think as a group not as an individual when it comes to certain areas of decision making. And while doing so, we must reduce our own intra-group barriers in the name of religion and political affiliation. It is worth mentioning that some form of demarcations still exists among the Bodos themselves. Individualism accepted without being able to fully comprehend its implications or understanding its pros and cons could lead to social chaos and uncertainty among the Bodos.

Giving full individual freedom would make the moral/social monitoring bodies like ABSU irrelevant. However, any sensible Bodo would be able to point out what catastrophe would befall upon the Bodos if such organizations were to be dissolved.

Possible negative fallout of cent-per-cent grant of individual freedom among Boros are-

This could lead to flocking of Bodos in thousands to metro cities and engaging in flesh trade,
Aggravation of alcoholism among the youths,
Stagnating of educational standards,
Social chaos.

Remembrance of the Great Visionary Leader Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma (Bodofa Day)

Today as we observe the 25th death anniversary of Bodofa (Father of Bodos) Upendra Nath Brahma (उपेन्द्रनाथ ब्रह्मा) the most powerful tribal leader of the twentieth century , a former president of the union who led the Bodoland movement across the state, we remember the sacrifices done by him. A student leader who had brought about remarkable changes in the lives of the downtrodden through the Bodoland movement. He was a leader not only for the Bodos but also for the underprivileged. He dream of a literate society. A great soul among the greatest visionary leaders of the Bodoland movement and an icon of leadership, sacrifice and unity.

Brahma who only lived for 33 years will be remembered ever for his visionary leadership and the sacrifice he made for the cause of his people. Today, his name rings around in the land as a source of determination for the Bodos. We pay our tribute to A Transformed who left no stone unturned to fulfill the historical demands of Bodos.

His Political activism

His dynamic lectured in many parts of Assam on the theme of discrimination against Bodo people. He claimed that they were treated as second class citizens and that their young people had no employment opportunities upon completion of their education. Jobs in Assam were mostly occupied by Assamese-speaking individuals.But now the scene has changed with Bodos working all over Assam in top ranking jobs with the introduction of about 20% ST and SC reserved quotas. Brahma was elected as the President of the Goalpara District Students Union in 1978-79. He was vice-president of the All Bodo Students Union between 1981–1983 and president from 1986. Through this body he worked for the rights of the community, which he believed to be losing not merely its culture but also its political rights. Under his leadership, the ABSU agreed to include political issues as part of its agenda. Brahma and his followers gradually mobilized Bodo students at the grass-roots level. In 1987, as the All Assam Students Union movement was losing momentum, he and his colleagues started a movement to create a separate state within Assam, to be called Bodoland. Brahma,still believed by many as someone who introduced a divide among both neglected Assamese and Bodo people of Assam.Assamese say when they themselves are victims of negligence how can they do the same to others.Most believe in this age people have forgotten to live together in peace and instead of fighting it together has taken the alternative road of Hate.

Honours

The title of Bodofa (Father of the Bodos) was posthumously conferred upon Brahma on 8 May 1990 in recognition of his vision and leadership. His life is celebrated each year on the anniversary of his death, which is now called Bodofa Day. A 21-foot-tall (6.4 m) bronze statue of him was unveiled in Kokrajhar on the tenth anniversary of his death.

His Ideologies

Brahma believed that everybody needs an aim in life. He was also of the view that through the mass movement of ABSU, the Bodos would be famous in the world. He had a great plan of action for the Bodos. He realized that only through Mass Movement, they would be able to get Bodoland. He also desired the Bodoland State to be advanced in education. He also desired inclusion of both nationalism and socialism in the curriculum. He also expressed the view that the history of the Bodos should be re-written. Upendranath Brahma also wanted the development of the villages in Bodoland state. He desired that government should establish co-operative societies in the villages. He believed it the proverb, "self help is the best help" and he wished the Bodo people of the Bodoland state also to follow his path and attain the ultimate success in life. He favored introduction of sports as a compulsory subject in the school curriculum. He was of the view that this would help Bodo youths to excel in games and sports. He also desired the new state government to take necessary steps for setting up of new industries in the state. It was not possible to bring economic development of the common people without the development of industries. He understood that literature is the identity of the community. He was an active writer of poems, short stories and literary articles. He also wrote articles and essays on science. He was also an editor of "BIDANGSRI" from 1977-78. In 1980, he edited "ORKHI", a news magazine in Bodo from Kokrajhar. Through The Bodoland Times, he tried to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the Bodos. Brahma desired the state government to take steps for the protection of the tribal art and culture. He wanted a Tribal Culture Preservation Department to be created. He also realized the necessity of a state for the tribals. He was of the opinion that only a separate state would help the tribals to develop.

We salute this great soul who from his dead bed mobilized his movements for the downtrodden.

BJP Promises Indian Citizenship For Bangladeshi Hindu Refugees

Hindu refugees from Bangladesh will be given Indian citizenship if BJP comes to power in Assam in next year's Assembly poll, party president Amit Shah said. Some Hindus have come from Bangladesh due to religious disturbances.

BJP will give all of them citizenship once we come to power in Assam next year," Shah said at a rally here. Not only in Assam, but the party will work towards giving Indian citizenship to all Bangladeshi Hindu immigrants across the country, he added.

"Next elections will be fought on this issue. Assam poll will be for freeing the state of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Assam polls will also
be for development of Assam and North-East," said Shah, who is on his maiden two-day tour to Assam. He said Assam has become a shelter for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the Congress government in the state is doing nothing to deport them.

"We gave money to update NRC (National Register of Citizens), but the state government does not want to do this as they got their votes. This will not continue for long. BJP will surely evict them from Assam land," Shah said. He called on the people to free Assam from Congress' 15-year "rule of corruption" and hand over the reins to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for overall development of the state. Referring to a recent CAG report, Shah claimed there are no accounts for Rs 12,000 crore funds. "Tarun Gogoi, please give accounts for that money or else people will seek answer during polls next year. If there is no change, then who will ask for answers? Please give us power, we will seek answer for each penny," he said.

Shah also slammed the Congress for alleged "misrule" and corruption during the 10-year UPA tenure at the Centre. "It was a government of corruption. 2G, CWG, purchasing of tanks, aircrafts and submarines, ISRO and finally the coal -- in every sector there was rampant corruption. The UPA looted Rs 12 lakh crore from Indian people," he alleged. After the people gave the power to Modi, the last 11 months have been corruption free and all the wrong policies were reversed, he said.

Reasons Why I Want Bodoland

Let’s review the history of Bodo-Kacharis, History reveals that we Bodos(Bodo is derived from 'Bod' which means 'Tibet'), known as Kiratas, Asuras, Danavas and Mlecchhas in the ancient period of time, were the earliest inhabitants of the Northeastern region of India. Our ancestors migrated to the north-eastern part of India at about 5000 BC in search of greener pasture and better living from central Asia such as China, Mongolia, Tibet and Siberia. Writing about Bodos Endle remarked "in feature and general appearance they approximate very closely to Mongolian type; and this would seem to point to Tibet and China as the original home of the race". With the passage of time and situation, our ancestors scattered in different parts of the region and acquired different tribe names. In the Brahmaputra Valley we are known as Boros, in Tripura as Tripuris, in north Cachar as Dimasas and so on.

Bodo-Kacharis were first classified by S. Endle as the Kacharis. Here, Bodo is derived from
Bod which means Tibet and Kachari is derived from Kachar meaning area near the river. Our ancestors are considered to have reached the Brahmaputra valley via Tibet and settled in the foothills of the eastern Himalayan range which includes the whole of Assam, Tripura, North Bengal and parts of Bangladesh. That the Bodo-Kacharis were early colonizers of the river valleys is taken from the fact that most of the rivers in the Brahmaputra valley today carry Tibeto-Burman names — Dibang, Dihang, Dikhou, Dihing, etc. — where "Di"- means water in Dimasa language, "Ti/twi"-Tripuri language, "Dwi/Di" in Boro(Bodo) & "Chi" in Garo.

Based on an 1881 census, there were 19 groups within the Bodo-Kachari classification:

Some of the groups, such as Moran and Saraniya consider themselves as lower-caste Hindus. Other groups, such as the Garo, Rabha, Lalung and Hajong having been isolated from the parental stock, have established separate identities. With the exception of the Garo, which is still a matrilineal society, the other groups have given up the rules of matrilineal society.

The Mech in Western Assam, the Boro in central Assam; the Dimasa in Dima Hasao District (DHD) formerly North Cachar Hills, Nagaon district, Cachar district & Nagaland state and the Sonowal and Thengal in the eastern part of the Brahmaputra now represent the Kachari.

Experiencing a great legacy in the past, the situation has changed. Today, we the Bodos of the Brahmaputra Valley is in threat under the dominance of Assomiya Nationalism, our sociocultural and political identity is in the way to extinction.

We cannot impose one's culture to the other, a composite culture known as Assamese Culture was formed in the nineteenth century as well as in the early part of the twentieth century. But it could not last long. It collapsed as a result of the influence of the modern civilization and the chauvinist policies of the Assam government in the second half of the twentieth century. Where the Assam Official Language Act of 1960 and the movement for establishing Assamese as a Medium of instruction in all educational institution of Assam in 1972 can be mentioned in this regard, this can be noted as the main reason why we Bodos feel neglected and isolated. (How can you even expect to impose your culture and language, if we already had a rich legacy, language and culture behind?)

Bodoland Movement

Initially, the movement for separate Bodoland was peaceful movement. But, it became of violent nature because of the cruel treatment of the state government. It is not wrong for any community to live with dignity, to raise voice for political rights and to protect their own language and culture. Bodoland is our birth right! Many questions such as "Why are you Bodos dividing India?" were questioned. But, we just want our own state so that we can represent ourselves, so that we too can fell the feeling of nationality. The question of "Why can't we live together?" only comes if we are treated equally. "How can you expect us to have a nationality feeling if one among you is dominating us?"; "Bodoland must be create to protect the identity and culture of the Bodos"; "Article 2, 3 & 4 must also be applicable in the case of Bodos"; "No Violence, No Killings, Create Bodoland" and "Only Bodoland can save the Bodos from exploitation, discrimination and the government's negligence". We have every right to demand separate statehood "Bodoland".

At least 1135 Bodo people had lost their life during the Bodoland movement from 1987-93. More than 150,000 people were left homeless and had to settle down in different relief camps without government relief, rehabilitation and medical care. According to the report of ABSU to the then Prime Minister of India (V.P. Singh), over 200 Bodo inmates died out of starvation and another 93 Bodo inmates died due to lack of medical care in Gohpur (Assam) itself.

The report to Amnesty International, where Presidents of All Bodo Students Union and All Cachar-Karimganj Students Association stated that 9 (nine) Bodo Girls and one old woman at No. 12 Bhumka village in Kokrajhar district of Assam were gang-raped by the Assam Police (AP) and Assam Police Task Force (APTF) on the nights of 25^th and 27^th January of 1988. Will always give an alarm in my heart for the Bodoland Movement.

Bodoland Movement

My blood geared up when I came through the scrapings, where some Assamese miscreants in connivance with the Assam police forces at the patronage(Support) of the Assam government committed massacres at Gohpur in August and at Rangapara in May, 1989 under Sonitpur district, Simlaguri under Lakhimpur district in August, 1989, Kairabari, Bhakhatpara and Phaorupeta under Dorong district in August, 1989. In those incidents more than 300 innocent Bodo women and children were butchered and over 10,000 Bodo houses were burn down to ashes. More than 15, 0000 Bodo people were settled in relief camps without government relief, rehabilitation and medical care.

My tears falls apart when large number of the innocent people always became the victim of fake encounter; beaten brutally leading to the lost of their eyes, legs, hands and so on. Thousands of the innocent Bodo people who are sent in jail and tortured there. But no compensation is made to the victims and their families.

I humbly acknowledge that I am not a threat to any community or to any individual; the language which I speak is our language. It is very sweet for us and I am very much proud of it, it does not threaten any other languages nor does it turn any one down. Just like other languages it wants to live.

I want the answer to my questions-

Why is my area always targeted regarding the use of Assamese as the official language if we already have our own language listed in the 8th schedule of our constitution?
Why do you say we Bodos and other tribal of Assam are Assamese, if you already formed a separate community with a particular culture, language, and tradition?
Why do people laugh at me when I say "I can't speak Assamese (language)"?
Why only Bihu dance represents Assam?
Is my culture inferior to yours?
Why should I represent myself as an Assamese if I already have my Identity as Indian and my tribe as Bodo?
Why do you term NDFB as Bodo Militants and why not ULFA as Assamese Militants while highlighting them in the media?
How can you expect us to have a nationality feeling if one among you is dominating us?
Why only people who can speak Assamese (language) are Assamese, if it is only to define the indigenous people living in Assam? (With reference to the definitions of Assamese given by Assam Sahitya Sabha and Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha)
Why only Assamese as the link language? why not other languages? There are many people living in Assam who can speak other languages too, I will produce a proof if you are willing to see them in your doorstep. (With reference to the definitions of Assamese given by Assam Sahitya Sabha and Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha)

The British stooge Tagore and the National Anthem - By Justice Markandey Katju

There is a controversy as to whether the Indian national anthem "Jana Gana Mana" was written by Rabindra Nath Tagore in praise of God, or as sycophancy in praise of the British King George the fifth.

In my opinion the evidence is strongly in favour of the second view.

To explain, let me first quote the Engish translation of the song:

"Victory to thee,
O ruler of the minds of the people,
O Dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh,Gujarat and Maratha,Of the Dravida, Odisha and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganges and ischanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.
We get up with your blessed name on our lips,
We pray for your auspicious blessings,
Thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Victory, victory, victory to thee."

Now a few things must be noted about this song:

1.The song was composed at precisely the time of the visit of the British King George the fifth and Queen Mary in December, 1911.

2.The poem does not indicate any love for the motherland.

3. The "Adhinayak" (Lord or Ruler) is being hailed. Who was the ruler of India in 1911? It was the British, headed by their King-Emperor.

4. Who was the "Bharat Bhagya Vidhata" (dispenser of India's destiny) at that time ? It was none but the British, since they were ruling India in 1911.

5.The song was sung for the first time in India on the second day of the Calcutta Conference of the Congress party in December 1911. This conference was held specially to give a loyal welcome to King George the fifth, and to thank him for annulling the Partition of Bengal in 1905.

6. The agenda of the second day of the Calcutta Conference, in which the song was sung, was specially reserved for giving a loyal welcome to George the fifth, and a resolution was adopted unanimously that day welcoming and expressing loyalty to the emperor and empress.

7. It was only as late as in 1937, when he wanted to show himself as a patriot, that Tagore denied that he had written the song to honour the British king.

The above facts almost conclusively prove that "Jana Gana Mana" was composed and sung as an act of sycophancy to the British king.

And we have proudly adopted this song as our national anthem?

Hypocrisy in Bihu Celebration

Few day back the indigenous people in Assam went through a political storm where they went through long debates, "Who is an Assamese?" was the question mark put in everyone's desk.

Some of the definitions given by different organization are listed bellow-

1. Assam Sahitya Sabha: "Indian nationals irrespective of community, language, religion and place of origin, who accept Assamese as their mother tongue or either their second or third language."

2. All Assam Students' Union: "Those who figure in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) 1951 and their descendents."

3. Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha: "Indigenous people of Assam whose mother tongue is Assamese or who have their own local dialects and languages community-wise but use Assamese as link language to communicate between them."

4. Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty: "Assamese comprise nearly 20 Castes and 60 ethnic groups, tea garden workers and Rajasthani or Bengali people who came long ago and accepted the local culture, the Garia Moriyas who entered assam almost at the time as the Ahoms and the Sikhs who came to fight for Ahom King Chandrakanta Singha."

But the recent statement made by the respected President of Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan against Zublee Baruah again raised many question marks in everyone's ideologies. He stated in a TV Channel that Zublee is
not a tribal girl…..She is Assamese and that's why she should wear Mekhela Chadar.

Zublee in response posted in her page-

"I AM ASSAMESE & I AM TRIBAL ….. I Love My Mekhela Chadar and I Love All the traditional outfits of North East. I always wear Mekhela Chadar starting few days of Bihu Celebration and I will of-course keep wearing it in the future too, but the point is as long as the artists dress is decent and maintain the decorum of Bihu Function, one shouldn't dictate or force his or her opinion on someone. Moreover rules should be equal for all irrespective of gender. I was wearing the below given dress made of traditional Paat with traditional tribal fabric on it and I think it shouldn't hurt anyone's emotions which was also entirely a decent dress.

People have reached the Moon but some of us are still unaware of the definition of Assamese. And so for their kind information, would like to let them know that all the tribes of Assam together forms the greater Assamese Community. I had to mention this bcoz the respected President of Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan stated in a TV Channel that Zublee is not a tribal girl…..She is Assamese and thats why she should wear Mekhela Chadar.
I have clearly mention that, I will accept their proposal of wearing Mekhela Chadar only if they are also is in proper Assamese traditional attire.
This is Assam……We are Assamese and one of the richest community in culture. There's so much problem in our state to solve rather than dictating an artiste what to wear……….WE ARE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN OUR CULTURE.

Who are Rajbongshis?

Rajbonshis are Hinduised people belonging to the lower caste in the Hindu caste system who now speak Assamese and Bengali languages. They are darker than other tribes. Some of them have Aryan features but some of them have mongoloid features. Their population is more than 1 crore.

*What's their origin?

Asking a Rajbonsghi, an obvious reply would be-"we're the descendants of the Koch kings" but the truth is that none of them are any descendant of the Koch kings. Can a single royal family sprout out into more than 1 crore population in just 500 years? There's no logic here therefore who are they? When the Bodo-Koch king, Naranarayan converted to Hinduism,he converted his family members to
the Kshatriya-caste(a warrior class in the racist Hindu caste system). Then this conversion prompted other members of his court to follow his example but only by calling themselves as KOCH(hence Koch though is a name of a tribe, also became a name of a caste). Many tribes like Bodos, Koches, Rabhas, Garos,etc too followed the conversion and called themselves as KOCH which has also become a name of a caste(it got its name from the tribe Koch as the king was a Koch. Since his grand mother was a Koch and his grand father a BODO ,his father took the mother's identity,remember that the Koch tribe is matrilineal,takes mothers' identity ). Latter on they stopped calling themselves KOCH but started calling themselves as Rajbongshi. The conversion itself was done to become non-tribal from tribal background so now if they ask for ST then it's absurd.

*What did the BODO-KOCH kings rule?

They ruled most parts of the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river and also the North Bengal. But their kingdom was annexed by the Bhutanese soldiers in 18th century. After the britishers took controll over their kingdom,they were reduced to merely zaminders like the Bijni king,Sidli king and the king of Darrang. But the king of KOCH BEHAR maintained to remain as a princely state.

*Why most rajbongshis are darker than other tribes and have non-mongoloid features(for which historians think them to be of Dravidian origin)?

Because on being hinduised,they got a place in the Hindu caste system for which they could now marry other Hindus(Aryans or Dravidian) belonging to any lower Hindu caste or Kshatriya caste. Intermingling of Aryans and Dravidian with the rajbongshis made them dominated by non-mongoloid features.

*Why some of them look like the Bodos ?

Because by the end of 19th century, Bodos were looked down by the hindus(people belonging to the caste system) some of them preferred to get absorbed in the Hindu society and most of them converted themselves to the rajbongshi caste. It may also explain why "PATANI" resembles the "DOKHONA"

CONCLUSION
Most of the rajbongshis were those who worked for the hinduised Bodo-Koch kings. Only those Rajbonghis are royal descendants whose great great grand fathers or grand mothers were zaminders. Rest are people belonging from different tribes who converted into vaishnavism and called themselves as rajbonghis as they started to follow the religion of the hinduised Bodo-Koch kings.

BWISAGU Boosted up with the Baokungri Festival

Baisagu, one of the most popular seasonal festival of the Bodos, which means the start of the new year is a Boro word which originated from the word "Baisa" which means year or age, and "Agu" that means starting or start. Hence, 'Baisagu' the starting time of the year or age. This year Bwisagu started on 14th April, where a large number of people were seen enjoying the beauty of nature with songs, dance and special musical instruments like Kham, Siphung, Serja, jotha etc.

The festival is boosted up with the "Baokungry Festival" where thousand of people were seen in the Baokungri hill side of Kokrajhar district merrymaking, starting from young to old. Reason Why I am Totally Against Cow Slaughter Ban in INDIA

I have no desire to be controversial, only a desire to be rational. Some might say "You should respect the feelings of majority!" my only answer is "I respect feelings of everybody, but I refuse to respect stupidity."
I am totally against the ban on cow slaughter, not because I like to eat beef! But, only because there is no ground of rationality in banning beef.
I went through this Article 48 which says slaughter of Cow is prohibited in Constitution of India, but not on religious grounds, but on Agriculture and Animal farming perspective. Here is the Statement:
Article 48 in The Constitution Of India 1949
48. Organization of agriculture and animal husbandry The State shall endeavour to organise agriculture and animal husbandry on modern and scientific lines and shall, in particular, take steps for preserving and improving the breeds, and prohibiting the slaughter, of cows and calves and other milch and draught cattle.
‪#‎NOTE‬ Not everything in the Constitution is sensible.

90% of the world eats beef. Are they all rakshasi and

*Ban on beef with regard to Agriculture and Animal farming (Article 48)
is nothing but only stupidity! let me give you one example "America produces the maximum milk and the maximum beef. So both can go together!"
*India will suffer a lot in days to come! specially the farmers, due to the ban on slaughter, farmers are unable to dispose of their old bullocks, making it tougher for them to buy a new pair. Selling old bullocks for slaughter got them the margin money to buy a new pair. With the ban there are no takers for older bullocks any more. Farmers used to fetch around Rs 10,000 by selling the old pair, which provided some cushion for buying a new one. With the ban, nobody dares buy an aged animal, which has hit business hard. This ban is going to pay a very bad economic impact in the country!

If it is only banned with regard to Agriculture and Animal farming, then I can give you a rational example: Camel is the most useful animal for Arabs, Arabs drink camel milk it was the best vehicle before the arrival of motor vehicles, its skin is used making water bags and other leather items and camel race is very famous among Arabs. Camel has been mentioned in the Qur'an (holy book of Muslims). Arabs are very fond of Camels. But all Arabs eat camel meat and it is consumed heavily in Arab world, during marriages so many camels are slaughtered.

Let's again look from a farmers points of view. Most of the farmers in India own 3 or less cows. These cows have a life of 15 years but are productive only for 6 or 7 years. The cost of maintaining then is around r₹1500 per month with no income. The farmers sell them and with the money they but a calf and the cycle goes on. Now what will they do? Slowly they will stop having cows. India is one among the largest milk producer and the largest exporter of leather. Almost 80% of the milk comes from the small farmers. Now soon we will end up importing from China. But who cares for the poor farmers?
India will never progress unless people start thinking rationally, and stop thinking emotionally.

Truth Behind The 2012 Ethnic Riots In Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD)

Analysts say that the main cause of the clash between Bodo tribals and immigrant Muslims 2012 was control over land. Kokrajhar and Chirang were predominantly a Bodo tribal majority areas till nineties.

But there were migration of immigrant Muslims to the Gossaigaon sub division areas in Kokrajhar district since beginning of nineties.
Immigrant Muslim population has increased exponentially in Gossaigaon sub division in last two decades.
Immigrant Muslims procured lands from many Bodos in Gossaigaon areas and outnumbered Bodos in many villages. Over a period of time, there were migrations of immigrant Muslims to Kokrajhar and Chirang town areas. These immigrant Muslims are mainly agricultural labourers and daily wage earners.
The control over land by immigrant Muslims in Bodo heartland and increasing population of immigrant Muslims in Kokrajhar and other districts of BTC created fear psychosis among Bodos.

Tension among Muslims and Non-Muslims have always prevailed in the region.
There are people of diverse tribes, communities living in the BTAD, and that's the fact. But accusing Bodos as involving in the process of ethnic cleansing was just a fabricated stories.
It is noteworthy to understanding that the BTAD comprises of villages of the tribal belts and blocks notified in the Chapter X of Assam land and revenue regulation, (1886 ALRR). In the exercise of powers conferred on it under section 160 and 161 of ALRR, the Govt. of Assam created as back as 1947-1948, Tribal belts and Tribal blocks and notified the people belonging to the communities viz. Bodo, Rabha, Lalung (Tiwa), Sonowal, Mishing,Kacharies, Santhals, Gurkas and Rajbanshi, making them eligible to reside in such belts and blocks. These belts and blocks were created on the basis of the predominant tribal population.
Considering the above fact, we can not consider Bodos’ involvement in the process of ethnic cleansing in BTAD.
*Now the question is "why tribal Bodos have become minority in their own land?". We need to think that, if the tribal population of tribe like Bodos in BTAD which mainly comprises tribal belts and blocks, has been reduced to less than 50%, it is very sure to that extend that there has been encroachment of immigrants in the villages situated within tribal belts and Blocks, of which the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are the dominant proportion.

Now, the CBI, which was probing the 2012 ethnic riots in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD), has named an Assam Police constable as the main culprit for fueling clashes in its final report, Mohibur Islam alias Ratul, the accused.

"Investigation in the case has revealed that Mohibur, a suspended police constable, had committed offenses of promoting enmity between different
groups of society on grounds of religion, race and his acts were prejudicial to maintenance of harmony and peace in Kokrajhar district. However as per law, the sanction of state government is required to launch prosecution against the accused," said a source citing the CBI letter.

The probe revealed that Mohibur was carrying illegal firearms with him on July 19 and he accidentally shot a bullet in his leg. Later, a case was registered with Kokrajhar Police that two motorcycle-borne Bodo youths tried to kill Mohibur.

"To avoid a case of carrying illegal firearms and to mislead police investigation, Mohibur concocted a false story of attack on him," said an official.

The CBI has recorded the statements of at least 50 witnesses in the case.

On the following day of the incident on July 20, the All Bodoland Minority Students' Union (ABMSU) had called a bandh in Kokrajhar in protest against the attack. Mohibur was the founder-member of ABMSU.

"On July 20 evening, Mohibur's supporters apprehended four Bodo youths. Mohibur, who was undergoing treatment, gave specific instructions to his supporters in the Joypur area on Kokrajhar district to kill the four persons. This acted as a trigger for ethnic violence in the district which resulted in deaths of over 100 people and displaced thousands," a source said citing the CBI report.

Mohibur, who was posted as a constable in Morigaon district, was suspended from his duty for his alleged involvement in crimes like extortion, decoity, rape, murder, possessing illegal arms and making blue films.

Morigaon Police said he has not joined duty yet and his whereabouts are not known.

A) Attack on Government Official on duty to relief camps :-
Incidents of attack by the people of Muslim Minority Community in relief camps to the govt. officials as follows:

1) On 24th July, 2012, a group of all party MLA delegates were attacked by Muslim refugees in relief camp at Sarbhog.
2) On 21st July,12, Western Range DIG Shri Surendra Kumar’s convoy was attacked by Muslim refugees in Kodaldoha relief camp near Fakiragram under Kokrajhar District.
3) On 24th July, 12, Magistrate Shri Bipul Saikia was attacked by Muslim refugees of Kashipara relief camp 7 km from Kokrajhar at the time when Assam Chief Minister was present in Kokrajhar Town.
4) On 24th July,12, Agriculture Minister Shri Nilmani Sen Deka blocked by more than 3000 Muslim refugees at Bortola on National Highway 31, near Dhaligaon, under Chirang District.

B) The statement uttered by some renowned persons as follows:

1) BTAD Chief Shri Hagrama Mohilari, on 24th July,12 blamed all the Bangladeshis who came from neighboring country Bangladesh for the present turmoil in Assam and demanded immediately sealing of Indo-Bangla Border. He also alleged that local Muslim have informed the people from outside, particularly Bangladesh, who entered the area and were instigating the local people to indulge in violence in Kokrajhar District. He expressed possibility of ferrying arms and ammunition to the state through Dhubri by the Brahmaputra River by Bangladeshis.

2) The Pro-talk ULFA leader Shri Mrinal Hazarika supported BTAD Chief Hagrama Mohilari’s statement as ‘true’ and demanded the sealing of boundary alleging the involvement of Anti-India Forces from the neighboring country. He also alleged that a particular community in the state seeking the help of another particular community from outside for carrying out the communal violence in the BTAD. According to him one of the three boats, full of arms and ammunition reached by Brahmaputra through Dhubri District and other two will be reaching soon form Bangladesh. He also suspect the involvement of MULTA and Pakistani ISI intriguing the clashes in the BTAD.

3) The President of All Boro students union, Shri Promod Boro had called for sealing of the border with Bangladesh and the inter-district boundary between Dhubri and Kokrajhar to check influx into the BTAD through Dhubri.

4) The AASU also supported the demand of Shri Hagrama Mohilary for sealing the Dhubri-Kokrajhar border and told the Chief Minister to make public his decision on Mohilari’s demand.

5) BTAD Dy Chief Shri Kampa Bargoyary on Friday said the influx from Bangladesh was the main cause of ethnic violence between the Bodos and the Muslims. He also said that massive influx from Bangladesh has out numbered the indigenous population and threatened their political and Socio-economic situation. He alleged that both state and Central Government had failed to protect people living in the tribal belts and he blamed the All Bodoland Minority Students Union (ABMSU) for the situation.

6) Meghalaya governor Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary, a former IPS officer, who once headed the National Security Guards (NSG), also blamed that the Assam government was unable to prevent the communal clashes despite having prior indications. He said, “Several houses in our village were set ablaze by an armed mob just before noon. Even paddy fields with standing crop were destroyed. This happened despite the presence of a police picket near an LP school in the area. Police has been very ineffective,” (Mooshahary’s native village Odlaguri in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar came under miscreants’ attack & burned in broad daylight on Tuesday.)

7) BJP National General Secretary Vijay Goel has also demanded sealing of the border to check entry of illegal immigrants and thereby, trouble, ‘The congress government has failed to check influx’ he said.

C) Messages were circulated warning people of Northeastern states of India to leave Bangalore and other cities before Eid al-Fitr (the festival that marks the end of Ramadan) which was on 20 August 2012

*And what have we seen so far? News headlines screamed: Muslim members of Parliament from various political parties met the home minister seeking help for Muslim refugees. Another news report said a secular Muslim leader has blamed the Assam government for 'doing a Gujarat'.

This is how India's secular politicians try to uphold the basic tenets of their variety of secularism.

When one of the media person spoke to the energetic MP from the Bodo Peoples Front, Biswajit Dwimary, he was in tears and said, 'It looks as if Bodos do not exist for anyone. Nobody says a word about their pains and sorrows.'

During the crisis that unfolded in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) and the adjoining Dhubri and Bongaigaon districts, those areas witnessed the tragedy of nearly 500,000 people being forced to take shelter in 273 temporary refugee camps. An estimated 97 people have lost their lives and around 500 villages were burnt down. The magnitude of this human tragedy is overwhelming considering the short span of one month in which it occurred.

The highlights made by the Assamese Media at that time only focused the negative side of Bodos and the truth was never shown. The fear of loosing vote banks from Muslim majority areas kept the politicians dumb and deaf.

Examining the facts above "How can you expect Bodos to remain patriotic when nobody tried to understand, listens to them and every body wants to help and shield the Bangladeshi infiltrators?", "I literally was guarding my village taking a heavy axe which is remembered by my neighbors till today."

By now it should be clear that the communal clash which took place (2012) was all because of Assam Police constable Mohibur Islam alias Ratul (CBI, final report) and simplistic propositions like ‘Bangladeshi illegal migrants were the root cause of the violence’, prevents us from understanding the complex reality of the situation.

Dr Anand Kumar wrote for South Asia Analysis Group in 2008, 'After returning from the 28th India-Bangladesh Border Coordination Conference in Dhaka, the BSF chief A K Mitra disclosed that nearly 12 lakh Bangladeshis who had entered India on valid papers have disappeared between 1972 to 2005. He was quoting this figure from the intelligence reports of the West Bengal government.
This is one of the few official figures about the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants whose number has been estimated to be around 20 million and growing by the day. Out of this number nearly six million illegal Bangladeshis are residing in Assam, where they have turned five of the bordering districts into migrant-majority areas. What is however, most concerning is that these illegal immigrants are now threatening to swamp the tribal and rural areas of Assam and other parts of the country.'

Who is ASSAMESE?

I always knew and know that INDIA has a single citizenship!! but, I saw many literate fools, claiming BODOS and other indigenous tribes of Assam such as KARBI, RABHA, MISHING, GARO, DIMASHA, etc. etc. to be Assamese.. there can never be a proper definition for Assamese. Because people of Delhi do not call themselves as Delhian, Maharastra do not call Maharastrian, Bangalore do not call as Bangalorian, Meghalaya do not call Meghalayan, then why people of Assam should be called as Assamese?? Its not UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! its INDIA! We have no dual citizenship! WE have only one nationality!! INDIAN!!!
ASSAM is only demarcation of place or area, there is no such term as ASSAMESE!
1st of all we are INDIANS, &
2nd to which ever tribe or race you belong to!

That's because there is indeed communities and tribes known as Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali etc.
Now I would like to inform that there is no tribe or community known as ASSAMESE.
The term ASSAMESE is only given by
some small sections of people to gain political power! And the language Assamese is only the modification of Bengali Language, it was only when American Baptist missionary Miles Bronson and his associates including Nathan Brown and Oliver Cutter arrived in Assam in 1836, they discovered the tunes of the speech quit different from that of Bengali so, they worked for the restoration of the Assamese language to avoid it being overtaken by the Bengali language completely. In order to restore the Assamese Language, he took the matter to the British India administration of the time. Even today we can see many dialects and tunes different from that of Official Assamese Language, especially in Lower Assam, it is natural that a language can differ a little when it comes in viewing the geographical area, therefore since Assam was also a part of Bengal, the language there, was indeed a Bengali Language. Before 1873 Bengali was the medium of instruction in the whole of Assam.

*NOTE- The ASSAM state was not created on LINGUISTIC BASIS.

We BODOS & other indigenous tribes living in Assam have our own language and cultures and can't be the victim of this term Assamese.. Many indigenous tribes have lost their language and culture just because they call themselves Assamese!! We are Boro and always will be.. we have our own identity! WE CAN ONLY BE TERMED AS INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF ASSAM...

The whole of NORTH EAST was divided just because the people who call themselves as ASSAMESE tried to dominate other regions.

In 1953, the government was forced to create a separate state of Andhra Pradesh for Telugu-speaking people following the long-drawn agitation and death of Potti Sriramulu after a hunger strike for 56 days. Thus, the first linguistic state of Andhra Pradesh was created under pressure.

Few years back People of 'Bihar' tried calling themselves as 'Biharis'. So, it resulted in carving out half of the state from Bihar known as 'Jharkhand' which comprises of a large number of Adivasi people residing over there and are basically different from the Biharis in origin.

Similarly people of Andhra Pradesh tried calling themselves as Andhra therefore Telengana was recently carved out.

Therefore, if the people of Assam continues to call themselves as Assamese then it will certainly result in carving out the Bodoland state sooner from the expected period of time.

What is Bodoland Territorial Council?

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is a territorial privilege established according to the Memorandum of Settlement of February 10, 2003. BTC came into existence immediately after surrender of BLTF (Bodo Liberation Tigers Force) cadres.
The BLTF laid down their weapons on December 6, 2003 under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary and Hagrama was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) on December 7, 2003.
The BTC has 12 electorate members each looking after a specific area of control called somisthi. The area under the BTC jurisdiction is called the Bodo Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD).
The BTAD is to consist of four contiguous districts — Kokrajhar, Baska, Udalguri and Chirang — carved out of eight existing districts — Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Darrang and Sonitpur — an area of 27,100 km² (35% of Assam).
That the BTAD is created under the sixth schedule of the Constitution of India has been opposed by some organizations.
